Title: Burger King Glasses Figures!!!!!!

that the Burger King Glasses sets are going to attain some
pretty nice resulpts. For the A New Hope (Grand Moff Tarkin),
Empire Strike Back(Black Bespin Guard) and Return of the Jedi
(Wicket W. Warrrick). I can't wait to see if this pan out!!!!!!!

The glasses look fine, and I'm happy to see that they're different than the Vintage ones. Figure rehashes? Not surprised to see that. Hopefully Stan's right though, and there'll be a few resculpts thrown into the mix. Otherwise... Well, I'll just have some extra loose figures that I don't want or need I guess.

I'll still enjoy the glasses though! :)

It sounds like the figures are rehashes. If they make some resculpts or something like a Black Bespin Guard then I MIGHT consider buying a couple. I can just see these things sitting on the shelves more than the Clone Wars line that so many have griped about clogging their stores pegs. This concept just scremans to me SHELF WARMER SUPREME!!!

Of all of them, I'm indifferent on the glasses, and only mildly interested in the Luke figure--the only new variation here. I won't hunt for it, but if I see it and like it in person, I'll buy the ESB glass.

They could've expended a little more effort to make these more intereseting to me. A cloak for Obi-Wan (even rehashing the Pilot Obi one from '02) a cloak for Anakin...I don't think anything could be done to make Maul appealing, but why not reissue someone rare, like Swimming Jar Jar or Battle Padme (or, much more farfetched, Sio Bibble)?

That Slave Leia keeps getting the 10-dollar treatment, wonder what the marketing research behind that is?

Post by: Brian on January 5, 2004, 09:08 AM: I'm kind of disappointed with the figure selection here too, but I guess its not much different than what many of us expected. The glasses are kind of nice, and different than the old ones, so I will probably pick most of these up if I see them. I'm kind of happy to see they aren't exact duplications of the vintage glasses....just nice to see those have something "special" about them still, and not be duplicated. I know many people aren't crazy about these, but I was always pretty fond of the glasses when I was a kid, so maybe they just have that nostalgic value for me. The figures aren't that great really...but I guess I never did pick up that Slave Leia, and I don't have a Snowspeeder Luke either. Wonder if we'll end up getting a glass for Episode III too, to "complete" the set.

Looks like I'll be able to save some money for all the great figures that are coming out this year. Maybe they can put out some more cr@p this year to help with all the figures I will be buying. I mean, it's very exiting visit these sites and see all the new figures coming out this year, but my wallet is going to take a beating if they don't throw in a LOT more rehashes. So, that's my Burger King glass half full way of looking at this.

Post by: Jesse James on January 5, 2004, 05:09 PM: I dig the Luke too Scott, and hope he's not going to become the difficult one to find. I'd probably nab two so I could do some reproduction of the one for customs.

The use of the smaller Biggs or Wedge bodies with a collar piece was a pretty good idea, and this really improved the Snowspeeder pack-in figure some. It fills a Luke Snowspeeder void that the line's had since the older ones are the pinhead versions... I'd take 2 of him I do believe.

The other glasses though, and the REALLY lame figures are just not my... uhm, cup of tea I guess. :)

Those figures could've been better, I agree, and I'd have likely nabbed a set had they been superior figures instead of simply reissuing some already once pegwarmer status figures.

The glasses look nice, but I can't say I would drink out of glasses like that... Display maybe, but I don't really want glasses except my vintage ones. These just don't interest me enough I guess.

The question I have though is why now? Why a series of five with the final installment only a bit over a year away (ok, 17 months, but work with me here)? Why not release this in a year to build the hype? Six glasses could easily be sold as a set and it would be complete.

Am I the only one thinking the timing is off? :-\

Post by: Darby on January 6, 2004, 12:08 AM: Maybe we'll see a sixth Episode 3 one in the fall or winter of 2004, but I don't know. It does seem a little premature, and a little underdeveloped. Luke is the only worthwhile fig, and still, we need a real updated Snowspeeder Luke.

If they're definitely not glass, then I most likely won't buy them. I have all the BK glasses and think these would make a nice addition to them, but the idea of getting plastic turns me off for some reason.

My eyes must be playing tricks on me, because I still think they look like glass because of the glare, opaqueness, etc. If they're plastic because of child safety laws, then Hasbro must be shooting for the "glass" look (to keep them consistent with the BK glasses). I still would have preferred straight glass. To me, plastic "glass" looks cheap. I guess I'll wait to see these in person to make a final decision on whether to buy them or not.

Post by: Nicklab on January 6, 2004, 02:15 PM: Plastics can actually look really good. Plexiglass has been around for ages, and looks pretty good. In the UK I think they call it perspex, but it's all pretty much the same. It's just a high qaulity, clear plastic that looks very similar to glass.

These just don't hold much interest at all for me at this point...

The more time drags on, I actually am seeing a LOT of things I'm not interested in for 2004, like the HOF figures (Except perhaps some stormies), the glasses, or the "Trilogy" assortment of vehicles.

Actually the Trilogy Assortment sounds downright terrible due to the shelf-space it will inevitably take up, unless those ships are dramatically different in some way. A propoerly scaled TIE Fighter I'd buy 3 or more of... A rehash of the Rehash KB exclusive though will simply suck. The Falcon wasn't a big seller in the first place. I'm thinking the X-Wing may be Red Leader's?

Either way, there's a lot of stuff I'm going to be passing on right now I think.

The glasses are nice looking, but I can't justify the pricetag I'm betting will follow them, even for the one figure I wanted.

The extra 25 cents for the helmet was too much to bear. That was really the only one that people seemed jazzed about (outside of the people that wanted these glasses to begin with)

Yeesh, what kind of message does that say about these? Simply stupid, but more rehashes are good right? That's what we are supposed to think, right?

Meh, at least it's money saved is all I can figure. I'm just not interested in those at all now... The Luke did look promising at one point though. I'll hold out hope for a Super Articulated Hoth Pilot with head variants someday instead. :) Always have that little glimmer of hope going for the definitive figures to roll out somewhere along the line.

I'm not really crazy about any of the figures included (especially now with the Luke change), but I would kind of like the glasses. I was always a fan of the vintage ones, and I wouldn't mind adding a few new ones to the collection. However, it will be hard to justify spending $10 a pop for just the glass :).

Something along the lines of the Unleashed X-Wing Luke would be awesome with oversized removable Helmet,and alot of articulation.

However, I am wondering where these will be merchandised. Will they be in the toy aisle or housewares? Maybe both? I'm thinking an endcap would be eye-catching.

Uh... so are they in the Toy Aisle then?

I hit the Suburban St. Paul Target at lunch and didn't find anything, nor any luck when I asked about the DPCI number (087-06-0937).

I checked the kiddie dinnerware aisle just to be sure that I didn't miss them though...

The much uglier question, is how do carded and loose completists (like myself) deal with this crap? :-\ As much as I'd prefer to have the cups loose, I may just buy one set and leave it in it's package, 'cause I sure as crap don't want any more of these stupid figures loose! >:(

Maybe these will hit a real nice clearance sale on down the line, and I can pick up another set for some loose cups, and ditch the figures. 8)

yeah, the vintage glasses i have are actually in my kitchen cabinet... and guess what? i drink out of them. makes for great conversation when "new" people come over and i hand them a glass of something, and it's a jabba the hutt glass ;D

I scored the Figure w/Cup wave 1 Obi-Wan and Maul at the Stillwater / Oak Park Target here in MN today. There were none on the shelves, but a quick check of the DPCI # 087-06-0937 on the handy new scanners and I saw they were in stock in the backroom!

I found a helpful shelf-stocker gal and she had a case pulled from the back for me. The case pack was 2x Obi-Wan and 2x Darth Maul (4 total per case).

Some thoughts:

- $10 is a little steep for what you get, but I love the packaging and the concept. I love the look of the glasses, the little bio of the characters on them. Once I saw them in person, I decided I had to have them.

- Obi-Wan has the PotJ Obi-Wan with an Ep1 Obi Saber. Still has the little hole in his belt, but nothing to stick in it.

- Maul = pretty much the same figure as the Episode 1 version. Slight coloration change on the face tatoo, but that may just be my sample.

- The back of the packaging still shows the "removable helmet" Hoth Pilot Luke figure. I guess this is one time where the "Product and Colors may vary" disclaimer actually applies :(

-Overall:
A- for the cups. Woulda been an A if they were glass, not plastic.
C+ for the figures. While re-hashes, at least they are good versions of the characters. PotF2 Obi-Wan woulda sucked (like Luke probably will).

The stocker told me why I could not find them on the shelf. He said ALL Target stores are getting ready for a Spring Toy Reset. According to him the Star Wars section will be about double the space. I hope that means we will see spots for OTC stuff and more.

Wave 2 of the Tumblers with Figure are due out in Late March according to Target. Not sure if it will be two new sets or one new one with a repack.

I have to say that these sets are worth picking up. They are cool!

A good friend of mine picked up the cups from wave two today...

He grabbed both Anakin and Hoth Luke Pilot cups sets today at a Target near Madison, Wisconsin (I don't know exactly which one because he didn't say and I don't know Madison taht well anyway).

I really like these too, but I was a big fan of the Burger King glasses when I was a kid too, so that might be part of it. $9.99 still seems a little steep to me, especially with a repacked figure. I haven't picked up the Maul glass yet, although I have seen it several times, but I haven't decided if I'm going to get the prequel ones or not. I just know that if later in the year they "surprise" us with an Episode III glass and figure, I'll have to get it, then I will want the ones from I and II as well, to have the whole set. For now, only Obi and his glass are on my shelves here. If they go on clearance I'd snatch up Maul though.

E2 and E5 are out now, E6 (Leia) is suppose to be released by the end of summer. I don't know why they just didn't send them out all at once and who are they going to pack with Leia(and will end up being the ultimate shelf warmer)??

We're going to choke on that particular figure this summer between the glass and the OTC recard. But again, I really like the plastic glasses. :)

I'm sure Leia will show up in another month or two. The question is whether they'll actually put one final cup out for Ep. 3 next year. I hope they do, just so there's a complete set of all 6 movies represented, but I'm honestly doubting it. These will be warming the shelves en masse soon, so I'd be surprised if Target bites on another one next year.

Who knows, maybe they'll use this outlet to give us our first Ep. 3 preview figure next year... 8)

Anyways, I took a picture of all the Target Sets together. Yes I know they are still in their boxes. I do usually open up all my toys but right now I am not sure if I want to keep them so they will remained boxed for now. I did open up a second Luke set that I bought. He was a new/ newer type figure that I did not have have open.

It is not the best picture but for a webcam it looks alright.

I know of two other people here in Indy that have also found the Leia sets at Targets.

There is one Flea Market who has four of the Leia set for $30.00 each. He says that they are rare and very hard to find. Yeah right! He is just trying to make a quick buck. I should of said something to him but I am not like that.

I concur that they look good this way too. I plan on keeping mine that way and if I can pick up a second set, do so for loose glasses. The figures are irrelevant to me.

And I'm being an optimist about Ep III. I think we'll see one due to the sheer inundation of product that's associated with the movie in theaters. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it's already made, title and all.

I had originally planned on only buying the OT sets, but I know if they end up releasing an Episode III set down the road, I'll have wanted the other two prequel ones as well. Well, not like I don't still have time to pick up the Maul one, it doesn't seem to be in short supply around here :)

Pretty good overall. Interesting to see that on the figure, the magnet in his hand is replaced with a plastic plug and his arm is the plastic-peg non-magnet version as well.

I should elaborate (and clarify). See, the plan here is to just keep ONE set of these. I don't like them enough at $10 a pop to keep the regular carded (boxed) and loose version of each. But I figured I'd play it safe and go ahead and get two, 'cause I know myself all too well by now, and know I'm going to eventually decide I "have to" have both of 'em... ::)

And for what it's worth, I drink my milk right out of the carton, like most everything else I drink, so cups aren't a necessary part of my life. Maybe I'll bring them to C3 to use to play drinking games with the JD gang there. :P

Actually, I might just put them with/near my vintage Burger King glasses. I'll have to think about that later on down the line though, as I don't want to tarnish the coolness factor of the real thing... ;)

I know not everyone is thrilled about these, and may not be getting them...but it seems its been pretty quiet on the Target glasses front lately. I was originally planning on only picking up the OT glasses, but might break and pick up the PT ones if they go on clearance. I have never seen any sign of the Luke and Anakin cups, and Obi and Maul are clogging up the shelves at most Targets around here. I did see the Leia cups one time, and thankfully picked one up as I haven't seen them since. Have the rest of you found all of these, or do you intend to pick them all up at all?

I know a lot of people aren't big fans of these, and they do seem to shelfwarm rather nicely...but I kind of like these, just for the fact of the glasses themselves. For some reason I've always just liked those as collectibles, the figures they can keep for all I care (and drop the price :P). Plus, these represent three of my favorite SW characters...so I definitely want to pick these up if they come out/show up around here.

On a side note...how many of you have been buying these? If so, have you been buying them all? So far, I've just picked up the OT sets (although still missing the Luke set). I was tempted to get the PT ones too (just Maul has shown), just to have the "complete set"...and plus, I know if the rumored Episode III Vader w/glass is true, I'd want that one...and thus...all of them :).

Yeah, then all the loose collectors who don't care for these cups would be going NUTS! Nah. You're basically paying $10 for the cup, and you get a free (OLD) figure with it. That's what it boils down to, and how you should try to look at it I guess.

I've still got my two sets of each, and will unfortunately probably keep them both (I was originally hoping to go only "carded" or loose with these, but not both).

OCD always wins out though. >:( So I'll be picking these new ones up when they come out as well. Now that there's 3 more OT ones, I've got to wonder if they'll try to stay consistent, and add in another for TPM and AOTC...? Not to mention an Ep. 3 cup or two as well. I'd probably have to go with a Padme/Amidala for Ep. 1, and Dooku for Ep. 2 (for the main character's cup, not the figure of course).

I haven't opened up any of these Target cups yet though, and therefore haven't really compared them to my vintage Burger King glass sets. Has anyone done that yet? How do they look next to them, both size-wise, and quality-wise (the latter I'd assume isn't even close)?

they all seem to be the same height, except for the esb glass which is about 1/4" taller for some reason. these new ones are also a little fatter, at least to me. but the fact that they are plastic and not glass kinda ruins the whole thing. i mean, they are nice, but i'll take the old school "glass" glasses over these plastic glasses any day.

Right now I have mine boxed up, but thought about opening them just to display the glasses (since the figures are just repacks, and it would help a little bit with space issues). For now they are ok, since I only have two, but while re-arranging things to (hopefully) create more space, it just got me to thinking about whether or not I should open these up. Especially with possibly a few more coming up, as Scott reported earlier (Han, Yoda, Boba). Plus, I'm still looking for that Luke one....nothing but Obis and Mauls sitting around here.

At some point, I'll put them on display and I like the consistency of hte packaging, allowing for stacking. The figures are negligible to me, they can be there or not. I plan on getting as many as they produce, simply because I want the glasses. Have a trade pending for Leia, so I am up to date.

I do find them pricy for what is there, but I suppose it's $5 for the figure and $5 for the glass. The $5 for the figure just hurts for a rehash.

I keep buying them for the glasses too, although I don't have another Slave Leia figure besides that one. That is one reason I was thinking about opening it up, but I might wait to see if I can find an OTC repack one later on when it is released. Thanks for the tips guys, on what you are doing. I'm with you, I'll buy as many as they release, just because I like the glasses.

Post by: Brian on August 2, 2004, 04:10 PM: Just noticed in the little Q and A over at Rebelscum today, the impression that he (Mark, of Question Mark) got from Hasbro is that he didn't think that we would see anymore glass sets. Apparently they didn't do as well as expected. We personally never saw the Luke/Anakin glasses here. Leia showed up once, briefly, and sold out quickly. Obi and Maul are still sitting around. I know some people dislike these, and I could do without the rehashed figures as well, but I was kind of hoping the Han/Boba/Yoda glasses would see the light of day. Maybe they still will.

These would have been huge had the figures been all-new, or at least redecoed in some way.

That black and silver packaging just makes everything look better, doesn't it? I do hope these come to retail here, the figures I could care less about...but I do enjoy the glasses. Plus, its 3 of my favorite characters.

Or perhaps it is another surprise coming (ala the Clone 4 packs). Anything else new on these? I know the figures leave a lot to be desired, but I'm always a fan of the glasses :).

They haven't really even popped up anywhere in the rumor mill that I have seen... still is still a strong chance that they show up at Target at/around the Ep3 melee though ;)

But there was lots of talk about the Luke X-Wing Pilot, particularly his head. Was he a repack too?

I don't have him in front of me, but I believe he was the kit-bash Snowspeeder Luke who was included with the PotJ Snowspeeder...

Yeah - it looks to be the same Fett that was released both for the Saga and OTC lines. Not a bad sculpt, but the quick-draw action takes away from the figure (IMHO)

When you have a quality figure like the VOTC Fett laying around, getting another one of these is a tough pill to swallow - but I do want the Fett cup!
