Title: Star Wars Autographs
Post by: dustrho on March 6, 2003, 04:17 PM
I'm thinking about getting some Star Wars autographs, and am totally new to the subject.  Where does everyone here get their autographs (online preferred)?

I noticed this deal on Wattographs' website (http://www.wattographs.com/privatesignings/bobas-pasadena-signing.htm)... is this a good deal?  Boba Fett is definitely one of my favorite characters, and this would be a sweet thing to get.

LMK... thanks!

I don't know much about autographs. I recently posted an article in the news about that Boba Fett signing, they have many others coming up at a convention too-

I have been collecting auto's for some time now. I  got many from the Fan Club when they had the service to do so. Many others I got in person or if I knew someone was going to a show I would have them get it for me.

For my autographs that I have acquired thus far I  made a collage of that persons character with the date and event that they were at. That way I have a one of a kind Auto. So far only Peter Mayhew has rejected signing my own creation since he says it is copyrighted material. Also Jerome Blake told me he did not feel comfortable signing such an item though he did anyways.
From the ones that I have acquired on my own or ahve helped acquiring,  I have a wall full of autos. It takes lots of time and patience to acquire autos. But it is a worth while venture if you have the time to do such a thing.

I also buy the COA if there is one offered. I feel more comfortable with a COA to prove to people that they are not fakes. Though sometimes the ones I got through the Fan Club I wonder about.

Good luck in your autograph pursuit.

Do you have a picture of this wall of autographs by chance?  I'd love to see your collection.

All of my autographs have been from either "official" Star Wars sources, or Star Wars conventions. So far I have 3 Celebration 1 passes signed (Anthony Daniels, Ahmed Best, Ray Park and hope to order the Mark Hammil signed Luke saber), and 2 signed Master Replicas props, with a third on the way (Christopher Lee, Dave Prowse, James Earl Jones, Ray Park). The others are from Holloywood Expo/C2 Ventures. I bought the ultimate autograph set at C2, and a signed Vader print with JEJ's and DP's autos. I'd say the best way would be to either go through an official site like Wattographs, Autographabillia or Hollywood Expo, or to attend conventions whenever possible (especially Celebration III which will hopefully have another nice autograph area).

The C2 Ultimate Autograph Set had at least one autograph from each of these actors:
Amy Allen
Kenny Baker
Shannon Baksa
Jerome Blake
Paul Blake
Bruce Boa
Michonne Bourriague
Phile Brown
Jeremy Bulloch
Michael Carter
Ken Colley
Warwick Davis
Peter Diamond
Mike Edmonds
Carrie Fisher
Julian Glover
Rusty Goff
Garrick Hagon
John Hollis
William Hootkins
Nalani Krishan
Richard Leparmentier
Ian Liston
Daniel Logan
Angus Macinnes
Peter Mayhew
Bonnie Piesse
Dave Prowse
Mike Quinn
Tim Rose
Alan Ruscoe
Michael Sheard
Femi Taylor
Billy Dee Williams

I, personally, am always wary about buying autographed items just because, you never know.  I did buy one item, an original Star Wars LP, for $25, signed by Dave Prowse, Peter Cushing, and Mark Hamill.  I had autographed items from two out of three in my collection already (the Prowse I had from the 10th anniversary convention, the Mark Hamill from a friend who caught up with him during a Disney-MGM Studios "Star of the Day" appearance), and those two looked authentic.  The guy I bought it from had the story that his dad had worked on the film, but his parents were divorced and he threw the album in the back of a closet for years (and it looked it).  But, I took the chance on that one.  All my other autographs I've gotten in person at conventions (except that Mark Hamill I mentioned).  I think there's something nice about an autograph as a memento of actually meeting the person, too.

Right now, I have 3 autographed Jango fett figures, all with correspnding COA's, two of whic were from his first US appearance at the Plano, TX Sci Fi Con, the other from a collector who went tothe Milton keyes convention in England.

I also have the only two convention passes Jango has been depicted on, being the Plano Sci Fi Con pass, which I have signed of course.

Lastly, I have a signed Jango Fett promo photo, purchased from Autographabilia.

I have a signed Boba Fett picture that I won with a signed Chewbacca photo on E Bay a few months back for $8.00.  ;D

I am heading for a 2 day con in Greensboro, NC where I'll be getting signed photos of Amy Allen/Aayla Secura, Aurra Sing/Michonne Bourriague, and possibly Plo Koon/Alan Ruscoe, depending on how nice a publicity photo will be available.

Nice Autograph collection so far. I have been collecting Star Wars Autos since 1997. I have many now. (Picture Coming Soon)

What I do is if I know someone is going to be at a convention I will make up a collage or find one off the internet (wall paper) and print it out on Photo Paper and take it to be signed. If I can't be there at the convention and know someone who is going I ask them to take my collage and get it signed for me. So far I have most of the Main Characters and some minor characters. My favorite so far is my 1980 auto of George Lucas which is on Kenner notepad paper. It was a gift from a friend who used to work at Kenner & Hasbro when I graduated with my second degree.

So far only Peter Mayhew would not sign my creation since he says it is copyrighted imagery so I ended up buying a Chewie Photo to have signed from him.  I have bought photos at Conventions to be singed just because I thought they were cool looking.

I will have to take a picture of my autograph wall to share with you all.

Thanks, wai.  I only got into autograph collecting in the past couple of years.  It's a lot of fun.  A big part of my enjoyment of this aspect of the hobby is the interaction  with the celebrities.  They're a very nice and gracious group of people.

A lot of my collection is due to my visit to Celebration 2 in Indianapolis last May.  That's where a lot of the harder to get signatures came from.  Including Carrie Fisher.

I'm also looking forward to getting Anthony Daniels and Natalie Portman as additions to the collection.  And right now, I'm working on a contact for Ewan McGregor.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can get that one.

I don't have COA's on any of my autographs.  But since I'm not selling any of them and I witnessed the celebrities signing everything firsthand, I'm comfortable not having COA's.

Which one is your favourite?Mine is Samuel L.
Jackson ,Frank Oz & Carrier Fisher.I remembr
I have seen a report that people to get her
auto and wait for more than 16 hours.I'm so glad my friend (Tim) can get one for me.
Title: Re: Autographes
Post by: Nicklab on May 16, 2003, 01:20 PM
Samuel L. Jackson and Frank Oz would be great additions!  I may have a lead on Frank Oz doing a signing, too.

Carrie Fisher was certainly memorable.  Our brief conversation was a little brusque, but certainly funny.  And this was at the end of Celebration 2.  I got up at 5AM to get on line from C2 that day.  All told, I think I waited about 5 hours or so until I got in to get Carrie Fisher's signatures.

One of the most memorable people I had sign was William Hootkins.  What a nice and incredibly funny guy!  He was an absolute blast.  He was bantering back and forth with Richard LeParmentier at Celebration 2, and they made waiting in lines a lot more tolerable.

I know a sw trading card collector who spent
over US$1300 to get Carrier Fisher Evolution auto which is limited to 100.He is not a auto collector,he just want to complete the Evolution auto set.Wow,US$1300,I can buy many sw items.Maybe some vintage sw figures. Can you believe it?

That seems quite steep.  I only paid for my autograph coupons and my trip to Indianapolis for my Carrie Fisher autograph.

Which one is most hard to get you think?
Harrsion Ford or George Lucas? Both the same to me.
Title: Re: Autographes
Post by: Nicklab on May 19, 2003, 10:15 AM
I think Harrison Ford is at more public occassions where you might get him to sign.  Movie premieres, and things like that.  George Lucas, on the other hand, seems to be more secluded between his work at the Ranch in Northern California and filming in Australia.

Post by: JediMAC on November 17, 2003, 03:23 PM
I just noticed we had two seperate threads about collecting Star Wars autographs, so I merged 'em up!  (sorry wai)   ;)

As for me, I don't have too many really, but I think I was probably one of the very first people ever to get the set of autographs from the "Men Behind the Masks" tour.  It was LONG ago (around 1994?), at a huge Sci-Fi/Fantasy collecting convention here in Pasadena, and I believe it was the VERY FIRST appearance ever for the Men Behind the Masks tour (can't recall the date now).  I was absolutely stoked at that time, and immediately pre-paid the $60 to get the full set of 5 guys on a nice 8 x 10 glossy of them (unmasked/not in costume if I remember correctly).

So I got Dave Prowse, Jeremy Bulloch, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, and Warwick Davis.   8)  I've since been to a number of conventions with SW autograph signers, but for some reason this subset of collecting didn't really take to me so much (probably due to the $20+ a pop to get most of the signatures, and the long lines often involved to get them).  I considered picking some up at C2 with that nice package deal they had, but just never had the time to get around to it...

I also recently got a Kit Fisto autograph as well, from a good buddy, thrown in as a free "extra" in a trade.  Thanks, you know who!   ;)

I just got a couple of theatre wides from c2ventures
Amy allen
Ray park
David prowse

I think it's a bit of a rort that these guys charge for their signatures.
I mean the fans are the ones that make them popular and then they charge the fans for the privilage of getting their signature
I remember a day when it was a sign of gratitude from the actor/ress  that they gave an autograph not another way to make money.
Title: Re: Star Wars Autographs
Post by: Nicklab on June 6, 2004, 03:06 PM
One thing to bear in mind with Star Wars actors:  they don't make a boatload of money.  Lucas has never been one to highly compensate the talent.  In fact, some of the guys who played EPISODE II era Jedi weren't even actors, but crewmembers who were enlisted for the parts because they fit the costumes properly.
Title: Re: Star Wars Autographs
Post by: Hemish on June 6, 2004, 07:34 PM
Ok
Thats all well and good but i'm sure that if any of us got the chance to be in a starwars movie and then goto a convention to meet our fans we'd be more honored than thinking hey a chance to make more money.
When we had Supanova out here last September we had David Prowse , Peter Mayhew and Matt Sloan come out now they were all great to talk to and meet and had some cool stories , but the 8 x 10's they were signing were $40 and the theatre wides were $60
For them to sign my item was $25, now i took my cousin to this and he only works part time at maccas whilst at uni so he's not rich, he had thoughts of getting vaders and chewies autographs on a book of his that he got just for the convention did it happen well yes cause i paid for it but the point was he was dissapointed that the people he idolised were going to charge him for getting their autograph.
Now i guess it could be argued that people will buy and sell these things so they must charge money , but the amount of money that was in David Prowse's assisstants' hands was scary.People were lining up with lots of items to get signed and were handing out lots of money.
When i got home and told my family i paid for an autograph the first thing i heard was "Rip Off".
I had to justify it by saying these guys were there for the fans , but then shuoldn't they be doing it for the fans not the money????
End Rant

Do you guys know of any nice quality, plain, Star Wars binders? Just a plain DRing binder, with Star Wars photos/artwork/logos etc on the front. I dont really want an album the obviously goes with something else (like a Topps card album), or an album with all kinds of crazy crap inside like clips and pockets and stuff (low profile inside cover pockets would be ok).

You might want to look at some closeout stores, like a National Liqidators, Odd Job, etc.  They may still be clearancing EPISODE II merchandise, and that could include things like EPISODE II binders.

BDW, have you considered trying a scrapbooking store?

Perhaps some creative work on your part would be more enjoyable for your autograph collection. (I am doing something like that for my SW Weekends stuff  & autographs) That way the binder is the way YOU want it.

Oh man oh man oh man!  I might be adding one of the more odd Star Wars actor autographs to my collection.  From who?  Why, the surly cantina bartender from the Star Wars Holiday Special, none other than Bea Arthur!  WOOT!

If anyone here is interested, PM me. I'm willing to cut my JD chums some deals (make offers if you like), and I'm open to trade for upcoming MR Star Wars items or UC LOTR items. Im VERY open to "hooking up" my buds here at JD.

I'm selling my autograph collection, in interest of getting autographs in person with in person photos. All of my autographs are direct from C2V, purchased either at Celebration II, or through their website. All 100% guaranteed authentic!

The collection consists of one complete Celebration II Ultimate Autograph boxed set, plus the C2 Muli-Autograph Photos, and the Daniel Logan chase photo (one chase photo per boxed set). The set number is 68, and includes COAs for the set, and Daniel Logan chase photo. I also have multiple other autographs, all purchased directly from C2 (no trades or middlemen).

The photos with multiple autographs are an 11x17 Prowse/Jones Vader, Krishan/Oyaya, Edmonds/Carter/Rose, Quinn/Williams, Prowse/Williams/Bulloch.

Here is a generic listing of the autographs I have. I also have my list categorized into an Excel spreadsheet, listing what movie the image is from (it does not, however, differentiate for multi-autograph photos, but those are listed above).

Well, Official Pix did a second Harrison Ford signing for a different Indiana Jones picture today and it sold out just as quickly as the first 50 they did. I was once again, very lucky to score one of these. I wasn't even going to try at first, but I figured it would look great next to the first one they did which turned out great. My other thought was perhaps I'd use it to trade for a Han Solo photo, but I'll make that decision later on.

These are scheduled to ship some time in late April, so I'll post pictures then.

Thanks man.

This is another piece I'm very proud of. I don't have any wall space to hang it up right now, but I make sure I look at it every few days.  :P This is also the reason I went after the Indy picture from Official Pix instead of the Han Solo shot. Don't really need two of the same picture signed. One of the things I love about the Vader/Obi-Wan picture is that he's got his hood down.

Kenny Baker was at the local Toy Show doing autographs this past weekend, and I heard some rather morbid stuff...  I guess his autograph's going up in price because of his health?  I'm not an autograph guy myself to really know...  He was selling them for the usual $10 on your own thing, $20 on a picture of his at the table, but I guess he himself said someone was offering him a lot to sign a number of items because of age or something.

Either way, he was in a wheelchair...  I'd never seen him at a show in one, so that's a shame.

I actually had the pleasure of working with Kenny during Celebration IV. I was with him at his signing table for six hours and there was a few times I thought he wasn't going to make it. He actually fell asleep a few times right in mid signing. It would be terrible to loose him, hopefully he starts feeling better soon.

While a lot of people don't care for the actual character, Ahmed Best has never done a sit down signing before. Other than some Topps cards and signing some Celebration I badges, he's not been available for autographs on Star Wars figures, photos and posters. I think it's great of Watto's to have been able to get him to agree to this signing. They are selling out of all the photos made available on the site, so it just goes to show you how popular this guy really is.

I don't think he's popular.

Absolutely.  Derek (sp?) represents some of the actors who tour the convention circuit making appearances.

Nice going on the Jeremy Bulloch sig.  He's a class act.  A totally nice guy who's down to earth and has embraced the fans.  A friend of mine set up a breakfast with Jeremy and a number of my NJ area collectors before one of his convention appearances, and Jeremy was great company!  If you ever have the chance to see him in person, do it.

Kind of weird he stole your pen though.

The average time taken for returns from the CTW address is 201 days, so it was just about right.

Actors will often not return pens, especially if they like them. It was stupid on my part to send the pen that I sent as they are no longer being made.  :-[

I just read a report of a guy sending him a photo in April of 2008 and he just got it back today. Frank only signs his mail once and a while, but chances are eventually, you'd get it back. You don't have to send a pen, I just wanted a specific color which I didn't end up getting anyway.  :P

Spend the $6.00 on an 8x10 (if that's what you collect) and mail it out. You'll be so glad you did if you get it back down the road.

Just got back from SDCC! I had an awesome time and met some great people.

I met Dave Filoni right after the Hasbro panel, and got a great autograph on the cover of my guide (it was really the only sign-able item I had with me at the time).

Then a little later I saw Peter Mayhew was doing autographs so I bought one from him. I noticed later on he didn't cross his 't' so now it looks like I have an autograph from Peler Mayhew. :D He was also selling some nice protective cases for photos for $2 each so I bought one to keep the autograph in.

On Friday afternoon I saw a table with James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan), Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka), and some other Clone Wars signers, so I bought a picture with Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Ahsoka on it hoping to get it completed since Matt Lanter (Anakin) and Tom Kane (Yoda) would be signing the next day. Ashley Eckstein signed first. She was a very nice and friendly woman who was great talking to. Then I got one from James Arnold Taylor, also a cool guy.

Then I went and bought another protective case from Peter Mayhew to keep the picture in. It wouldn't be my last. :)

The next day I brought the picture back, geeked at the prospect of having the photo completed. Tom Kane was there and signed the picture and did his Yoda voice for a bit. ;D

Then disaster struck. As I was putting the picture back in the case, Tom Kane's autograph streaked across the picture since it hadn't dried yet. It was truly a hideous sight. "Aw crap!" Tom Kane exclaimed as he leaped out of his chair. I watched as he walked over to the other side of the table with my picture, and to my surprise and delight, he was over getting a fresh new picture for me. He signed it, and I insisted that he let me pay for a second autograph but he wouldn't let me. Then he told me he would make sure I get the other actors' autographs. And I guess 'the Force was with me' (yeah, I know, cheesy ::) ) because even though James Arnold Taylor and Ashley Eckstein weren't scheduled to appear again, they showed up a little later and with Tom Kane's help, I was given replacements for both of the destroyed autographs. James Arnold Taylor wasn't even behind the table doing signings and he still gave me an autograph! It was AWESOME, and it's really all thanks to Tom Kane so that was really cool. Here's the completed picture:

And of course, I went and bought one more case from Peter Mayhew to keep the new picture in. :)

That's a fantastic story David, it's great to see a celebrity go so far out of his way to help you out.
