Scroll down here for more TRENCH RUN set pictures http://www.lichtgeschwindigkeit.de/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=7678 (http://www.lichtgeschwindigkeit.de/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=7678)
X-Wing has been altered a bit. Vader's TIE seems to have not been (no removable cockpit seat), and that sure looks like a Saga 2006 Vader included in the set. ::) I suppose no one is buying it for the figure.
I recently got a Vader TIE at a yard sale for $2. It was missing its missiles...maybe I should get this set for the missiles. :P
-
Does R2 (in the Trench Run set) look like the battle damaged one from the first Droidfactory 2 packs to anyone else???
Sure looks like it from the new .de pics ( linked above).
Definitely some tweaks to the X-Wing too, I think that "hidden torpedo launcher" deal is new.
-
Front gear also has a "hatch" for it now.
Seriously though, nice updates but without making the ship bigger it's just disappointing to me. :-\ Of course if the price is right though, the boxed set may be a nice deal overall.
-
The included Vader is wrong (no tabards over the armor). #fail :P
-
Instant pegwarmer, errr, shelfwarmer.
-
Wow, I have never read dissapointment in German before.

Nothing says "hey we know sometimes we screw things up" better than having to put on your packaging: "Vader fits in vehicle!" :P
-
Folks at the 'Scum are saying that new X-Wing looks smaller/shorter than the previous mold.
I'm not sure.
-
Since I have everything in this pack already, it's an easy pass.
Not a bad set though.

The fuselage is a new tooling.

OH! $100?!?! (http://photos.sirstevesguide.com/exclusives/p39150-hasbro.html) Easy pass.

I'd say more when it hits stores. They've got ARP $29.99 on the TRU Y-Wing :-\

Eeesh That's quite a lot of dough for one $20 ship that is 15 years old, a $50 ship and three repacks. This is a very easy pass for me.

After reading Yakface's commentary I am 100% in on this set. My old Darth Vader Tie wings are really loose and there is enough newness on that X-wing that I can justify getting the set. I wish they updated the Luke too but that will have to be a future release. I am surprised they did not update that figure. Also they really should have included the TAC #16 Vader.
Nice set overall and it's been awhile since Lukes X-Wing was on shelf, I can see this set doing well since it's so iconic. For those that are complaining on this set at least the X-Wing is not a straight repack, they seem to put a lot of new details in. If these mega sets do well who know what could come of them.
(BTW - I really would have bought several of these sets had a DS Turret been included)

They're getting close (especially with this set) Isn't there are CW type cannon dealy coming out?
-
I would have LOVED to see a Turbo laser turret in this set. And back in the day Master Replicas made one with their Y-Wing prop, using it as a stand. But the tooling expense of that added on to this X-Wing, TIE & the three figures would have drive the price of this set up to something like $129.99 AT LEAST.
As it stands now this set is probably going to be doomed to failure because of that high price point. I know that a big box like this is going to have to be at a certain price point in order to justify the ammount of shelf space that the package occupies. The new AT-AT is a fantastic new vehicle with a similar pricepoint, and it's still readily available. So Hasbro decides to offer a modified X-Wing and other items at that high of a pricepoint? Can we say "poor decision"?
-
This reminds me of the Euro Exclusive Clone Wars UBP they put out a few years back with Obi-Wan, Grievous and their respective starfighters. (The "Epic Encounter" set) Complete with window packaging. That was a bunch of repack swag too.
But yeah, I bought it...
-

Not to mention the $100 CW Baby Fett / Slave I set - my local TRU has 50+ of those still sitting on the upper shelves waiting for someone to buy them... :-\
-
I almost have to wonder if Hasbro produced this set as some kind of shelfspace holder. The AT-AT has been in stores for a year. And the Slave I set has been available for some time, as well.
Hasbro has offered some products in the past as placeholders. Back in the AOTC days Hasbro essentially confirmed that they reissued a number of vehicles in their Action Fleet line as placeholders until they could get new vehicles produced and shipped. But the downside there was that those placeholders didn't sell and that strategy blew up in Hasbro's faces. As a result that particular line eventually died.
-
I was thinking that perhaps Hasbro had updated the X-Wing mold in the hopes that, just like with the Y-Wing and the B-Wing, they could get a retailer to buy-in on having a Vintage Collection X-Wing exclusive.
Perhaps they were looking at Target to take that exclusive, but the poor performance of Wedge & his X-Wing from the Red/White TLC line may have put the stop to that.
So instead, they put the new X-Wing together with some re-release product and offered TRU a 2011 holiday season UBP in the same vein as the Slave I/Mace Windu JSF/five figure one they got last year.
Just a thought...
Related thought: I wonder if we're going to find out that WalMart has a Vintage Collection A-Wing coming this fall?

All valid points but I respectfully disagree on the failure assessment of this set. Here is why:
1. The X-Wing and DV tie
They are very iconic standard must have vehicles based on one of the most memorable scenes in the entire saga. They are more desirable to the avg buyer because they are instantly recognizable. While I really loved them both the AT-AT (I have 3) and the Slave 1 they are second and third tier vehicles to the avg buyer.
2. The package.
I can tell you from 11 yrs exp in the toy industry that window boxes especially on high pricepoint items like this make a world of difference. I have been in numerous test and consumer focus groups that show consumers like to see what they are getting especially if they are plunking down $100+. While they still plunk down on closed boxed items every test shows there is still some doubt and hesitation in whats in the closed box. Window packages show what you are getting and often, if done right like this, presents an attractive impulse factor that helps close the sale.
The AT-AT and Slave one (Both great values) did not have that going for them on top of the recognize factor.
I think this set will do well and have a faster sell through especially at Xmas time.
-
I think the set's fine for what it is, just nothing that excites me. If the X-Wing were done to-scale, I'd easily have bought it by itself or in this pack... That's just me. It's certainly "iconic".
The problem is, and I agree with Jeff since I see the exact same thing at all my local TRU's, if the Fett pack didn't do well then I don't see this one doing well. The CW is the line with the legs right now, and that Slave-I was a super Christmas gift... This, it's from a movie we love, but kids aren't as connected to. It has Vader going for it though. I don't expect it to move any better than the Slave-I set did, unless there are a lot fewer of this set available or something.
-
Like others have said, cool for what it is, but nothing that I think I'll pick up unless it comes out that there is significant upgrade in there or something. Like Jesse, I think the only way I'd likely buy another X-Wing now is if they made an all-new proper scaled version or something. I do think this is a "neat" set, especially for kids - but I doubt they care that much about the ANH stuff anyways, but who knows. It is kind of nice seeing so many classic vehicles out there this holiday season, between the various exclusives. We also still have the Slave I and AT-AT's still at our local TRU (although not in the numbers Jeff is seeing), so I could really see things starting to stack up with TRU always being so reluctant to clearance. I still think that the Slave I would have probably sold much better on its own, but we've discussed that here before.

Not to mention you can see when someone has swapped out the exclusive figures/weapons with something from the POTF2 era, which happens more often than not these days.

Man, I want that Slave 1, but I don't want anything else in that box.
As for these, it seems like a cool set, but the pricepoint is ridiculous. It's priced like a collectors' item, but it's got contents that collectors already have in spades. So the content is more appropriate for kids, but no parent is going to plunk down the cash for that. Stupid.
-
I'd buy Bossk off you.

I'd buy up the figures if you just want the ship. I already have one, but want to display the figures separately.

I'm interested. The only thing I want from the set is Slave-1. Do you want everything else? Let's take it to PM.

So I guess the cockpit is a complete overhaul... Control stick, removable console panel to get the figure in better, targeting computer, yada yada yada.
-
This UBP means a welcome evolution on the X Wing
the dashbord in sculpt targeting computer, torpedo launcher, the section for the landing gear,
looks as if the size has been profitted to the milimeter.
Moreover the paint job is superb! ;) The turbines show yellow and grey sections, the wings show more panels painted grey or red.
I supossed they would have launch a bigger X wing, perhaps later, but this ship is far enough for this year.
The diorama remembers the detail of potf2 cantina and Jabba´s palace diorama.
-
The single biggest concern I have with this release (aside from the high price point for multiple items we already have) is WHAT IS NEW ABOUT THE X-WING?
The modded Power FX X-Wing was a major step forward in terms of upgrades to a vehicle that we had seen up until it's release around 2002. But the drawback about it has always been that the cockpit is on the tiny side. It's the reason we wound up with the really anemic Red Leader figure that came with the Red Leader X-Wing in 2004. And don't even think about getting a figure like Jek Porkins into that cockpit. But in order to any of these things we're talking about a major structural change to the X-Wing. One which would probably mean an entire new X-Wing vehicle tool. Do I see this coming from Hasbro at this time? I can't say that I do.
-
Someone on another board speculated one reason for the retooling is so the X-Wing will fit in a starfighter assortment sized box (disassembled). It also explain why they added a launching torpedo gimmick. That would be neat if the X-Wing could return to regular retail. Lots of rebel pilot figures made, but not so many fighters, anything post-2000 has been exclusives that included pilots...well until this year!

Meh - I think I have a dozen X-Wings in one form or another, so not too excited about more. That said, it would be nice to have the new ship available by itself at a smaller pricepoint.
-
I can't see them chopping up the FX body and throwing it in a starfighter box personally. I can see the vintage mold in the starfighter assortment.
-
This X wing is not only an update for the FX or Dagobah swamp version but its coolest evolution.
In the last 6 years we are being exposed to the concept of evolution among Hasbro toys, and the ultimate
sculpt does not necessarily implies bigger size than the previous release.
The ship evolved in pieces and accesories: the first dashboard, torpedo launcher and belly compartment, not to mention the amazing paintjob. When many guys talk about display of the UBP, is a respectfully option but the tvc version is intended for playing too. ;)
-
So is the official word here that all of the figures are repacks? I'd love to not need to track down $15 worth of toys out of a $100 set.
-

I dunno. Nice upgrades to the X-Wing, but not necessarily worth the price of the entire set. However, with less to buy these days, it's not that hard to swallow.
-
I see this was just added to the TRU website:

So I saw this in the store yesterday. Honestly?
-The paint and deco on R2-D2 looks pretty good. He's got some of the manipulator arms and the figure looks pretty awesome. I'm not certain if this is an all new R2-D2 based on the cursory look at the figure in the package.
-The paint and deco on the X-Wing looks bland. Some of the previous X-Wings have a much better weathered look about them. This one looked pretty vanilla. The new cockpit details look nice, but it doesn't put this version over the top for me.
I am still leaning much more towards NOT picking this set up. The packaging is nice, but I get the sneaking suspicion that this X-Wing tool with the improved cockpit will be offered again in 2 years, and a newly tooled Vader TIE Fighter will probably happen within that time frame, too.
-
Isn't that just the R2 from that walmart BAD two pack?
-
Saw it in the TRU in Times Square and my opinion is the packaging is humongous. I read a lot of the comments about both vehicles prior to this release. However, I must say it's a pretty good look on hasbro's part to release these two as a set. I can't wait for it to arrive. For me, this is a must have.
-
This thing disappointed me tremendously. I really wish a "BMF" style X-Wing would happen, that doesn't look comically small next to the BMF TIE Fighters... the small scale just loses it for me.
I appreciate the updates to the cockpit and landing gear covers, but they're just meh on a small ship. Much like the Y-Wing and B-Wing, I'm happy to pass on this set. It's just not my cup of tea.
Likewise, I think Vader's TIE could use an update, or at least a better and more accurate deco since it's not blue-grey in the films. It's a decent size, just needs a little more umph and an interchangeable "Battle Damage" wing for the right side. As it stands though, this set isn't on my list at all. $100 in the bank.
-
Awesome, I got a $10 off $75 or more that's good starting today through the weekend, I hope I can find one of these and use the coupon to get it for $10 off!
-
Scored one of these this morning, used my coupons/rewards bucks so I'm good with a MIB one.
Now if get another 20% off coupon or more rewards bucks I'll score one to open. This is a sweet looking set, but not for $100, I'll only get it if I can get it for less...
I was shocked to see how big the box is! :o

I'm with you on this pete. I ordered it last friday from TRU's website during the everything star wars sale. It was $89.99 with tax came to $97 and change. Would love another one to open and play with but I'll wait til this goes on sale for at least 30 - 50% off. You guys might want to change your minds about this.
