This will be fun to acquire.....they look good.
-
WOW, Delta Squad FTW!
-
I'm pretty indifferent on this one... articulation upgrades might be nice, but if the price is too high, I'll be perfectly happy with the RC squad that I already have. :P

I am with you on this. This set is not a SDCC priority for me. MU Sentinel, both versions of the Dreadnok chic (cant remember name atm), and the Indy set are way higher up on the want list for me.
-
I am not into it either but it is a nice set for that wanted this. Personally I am getting tired of clonetroopers. So, I"m glad they want the online exclusive route with this. Now that means the pegs can be jammed with even more ROTS clonetroopers and white pauldron Sandtroopers :(
-
I think EVERYONE is tired of Clone Troopers and Stormtroopers, too. When I stopped in at TRU's flagship store in NYC the other evening the ONLY TVC figures on the pegs were Sandtroopers, Ep II Clones and Ep III Clones. There was nothing else! The heady days of the army building craze (2004-2007 or so) are over, and it seems that collectors have had their fill. This revisitation of the Republic Commandos might SEEM cool on the surface, but at this point it's just old hat.
-
Never ordered the original so I'll take it, but I'm going to focus on snagging the Indy set first.
-
Nice they redid them, but the idea of redoing them points to how repetitive and irritating Star Wars collecting gets. If they'd done the mold right the first time, there'd be no need for this set. It wasn't like they weren't doing super articulated troopers then, either.
Also, TRU exclusive = $50 price tag probably.
-
Since it's TRU I might be able to get this when I get back from Afghanistan.
-
Can't say it's not a good idea. I might pick it up because of the articulation upgrades.
-
I think it's a great idea, and should be a more widespread release... all 4 Commandos minus the Geonosian, around $30.00... that's what I'd prefer.
-

This is where I'm at...
I wanted the Rep Commandoes redone from the get-go... They chinced out on the knee joints, a must IMO, and something they should've done from the start.
I'm glad to see it done, but dread the price. I'll probably pick a set up, but one set (no extras for me), and I'll just be pleased to finally have these guys done PROPERLY in the line.
As far as army building goes, every figure has a saturation point... Clones out in bulk in the Legends line probably has a little something to do with Clones in the Vintage line not doing so well. Steady releases of Sandtroopers in all varieties since 2007 probably isn't helping him. And so on.
Meanwhile, other army builders are moving... New Clones seem to do well, but pickins for what Hasbro can do, especially from the movies, are becoming less and less. Till all army builders are seen like the ROTS Clone in the Vintage line though, it's tough to make blanket calls like "army building is over".
I'd say $9.99 figures has a lot more to do with army building slowing down than character popularity, personally, and I think it's impacted the line as a whole. But that's just me. I know I've gone from 100+ of various characters to, at best, half that. And that's a real rarity.
Plus most of the army builders that come out are just more of the same. Again, character saturation. I like the new Stormtrooper, I just already have hundreds and hundreds of suitable ones, and suitable ones have been on pegs steadily now for literally years. Retire him a while, come back with something all new, from the blaster to the sculpt of the figure itself, a year or two down the road like the new AOTC Clone, and that's probably a much stronger lithmus test.
I see AOTC Wave clones... But I don't see a lot, and I'd never label them pegwarmers yet, despite seeing refreshes of that wave steadily now for some months. Toss a Super Duper Scout Trooper out on shelves that takes the VTSC to insane new levels, and I think that's a more fair way of looking at it.
Some should certainly see full retirement, or at least get shelved for a year or two. Others need a ground-up redo, and I think they'd see a whole new army building life.

I was thinking about this just this evening, and realized that it was our Q&A, as well as a poll picking Hasbro's brain, that actually may very well have helped move this idea along...
Q&A#1

And in between we ran the poll via our forums...

It's really nice seeing the end result. It had been so long it almost slipped my mind that we'd picked Hasbro's brain on new Commandoes some time ago! Much like ICMG, it's nice to see you actually get their attention, and get an end result on top of it.
-
These are cool, though kinda irritating they weren't done right the first time. I'll get a set if they are not too much.
The TVC Clones clogging the pegs is a double whammy, with a perfectly good SA Legends clone right next to it on the pegs for a lot less, and they all have yellowed helmets, they are rotting on the pegs along with a few Sandtroopers. I saw a bunch of Utapau orange clones today. They are starting to warm now. Same yellowed helmets of course.
-
I thought ToysRUs.com was going to start selling these today.... At least that's what their site says:
-
I thought the same thing. I have been checking all moring. I think I may have to get Lion-O too......
-
I'm jonesin' for the Commandoes right now too.
-
I'm actually contemplating getting the MP Rodimus Prime in addition to the Commandos.
-

Apparently TRU did not place a limit when they put Hot Rod up early early this morning and people (the many that couldn't get just 1) are pointing the finger at BBTS who conveniently doubled the price on him this morning to $120.
Kinda odd that TRU is playing the SDCC game this year, but it's welcome (even though they're dirty and steal stuff right out of your cart just like HTS does)
Oh and I have no interest in the commandos :)
-
It's funny that you bring up BBTS.
I'm willing to bet that Brian's Toys will have plenty of the Commandos, Revenge of the Jedi 12-packs and Indy "Lost Wave" 6-packs, post SDCC.
I would love to see Hasbro and DeRetard explain how that is possible.
-
I am usually a big supporter of BBTS but this is just wrong doubling the price. It's a real turn off.
I am not too concerned with acquiring the Commandos but the DS set was something I really wanted. This was so predictable it's not even funny.
-
Commandoes are my focus... I cannot imagine they'll be tough to get, but you never know I guess.
-
Is it possible that these were already up and are now out of stock?
-
Is it possible that these were already up and are now out of stock?
According to scum they were.
-
Well - when I got in to work today, I went from the Main TRU page to that preview page and I've been refreshing the stupid preview page all day - turns out that the preview page was nothing and if you now go back to the main page and click that same icon/image for SDCC, you're taken to a different page where they list all of the SDCC items like an online store.
So I guess I've missed the Republic Commandos... >:(
-
Tunghori has them all loose on eBay (http://stores.ebay.com/Star-Wars-Army-Store?_rdc=1)
-
$13 a piece not counting shipping... Looks like they're a Chinese exclusive now. I'll pass on them ultimately if this is the case. Hasbro can just cater to shorter run exclusives and stuff, and I'll just not buy things like that I think.
The hobby's going to be too much of a pain in the ass though, if things like this don't show up again, and I'll just drift away from it over time I suppose.
I'll hold out hope that more are coming.
-

Same here - and I've been consistently buying 2 of every item since Hasbro started the modern line. And for some items even more than 2 of every item.
If collecting Hasbro Star Wars becomes the same kind of pain in the ass that collecting Gentle Giant or Sideshow Star Wars is, then like Jesse said, I will just drift away from having any interest in this line.
Thanks a lot DeRetard!
-
So wait... it already came and went? I started looking at the site around 10am CST, saw Lion-O and some other stuff and just thought the SW and TFers stuff wasn't listed yet. They were already sold out? Lame. :-\
And a big-FU to BBTS if they indeed did buy up a huge chunk of stock to flip at twice the price. Usually they are pretty stand-up place, but when it comes to store exclusives, they can be big-time scalpers - their excursions into the Twin Cities stores to pillage exclusives for their on-line shop are legendary around these parts. :(

Don't forget to throw in Brian's Toys too Jeff - I'm sure they'll have all of the SDCC exclusives in their online store for double the price.

Been there, done that. Came back for a long time, got tired of it all again and now don't really give much of a crap. If it weren't for my friends on this site and an obsessive compulsive need to continue visiting JD I'd probably be long gone a while ago. Sorry to those of you wishing I'd left a while ago :-*
-
I do keep your Pemmican trade-rates accurate though.
Hear the Death Star Revenge boxed set is going for 50 lbs. right now on the Saskatoon exchange.
-
Someone from the floor let me know they were still selling these not that long ago, still had them in stock there. Par tof me thinks more will turn up online.
-
I can only hope this is a clever marketing ploy to create initial demand for this product. From the box we know that a sister set of TFU is coming. It is hard for me to imagine that they are not planning some shelf space for these in the next couple of months. I can promise one thing, I will not pay a penny over retail for this set. All the scalpers can burn on this one.
-
So, according to the Panel slide-show, this set will indeed be coming to retail TRU at some point. Good news - now I can go back to ignoring TRU.com and just wait for a good deal at retail...

This is good news. It makes sense considering that they have the third TFU box set advertised on the back.
They will probably ship together in the same case.
-
Glad these will be at retail. Not happy they will be at TRU....but I think I'll survive.
-
Not that I'm worried 'cause this set is coming to retail, but any word on how well (or not) this set did in the EE booth? Did it "sell out" like the Revenge of the Jedi Death Star set?
-
I've not heard directly for a day now, but 2 days in and they had a decent number of them.
-
I waited until later in the day on Thursday to pick mine up. Not much of a line.
-
Any word if these are going to show up online again?
-
No, but they're showing up at TRU stores as per our front page. ;D
-
Of course these would show up 2 days after TRU sends out a 20% off coupon that was only good last weekend. ::)
-
Geoffrey should be photoshopped whipping people off. That'd be a good image to have handy.
-
I picked this set up today. I still have the first release of this, so I'm trying to decide if I'm keeping it or not. I have to say, they do look pretty damn good.
-
TRU.com has the SDCC Commandos back in stock. Free shipping on 2.
-
So much for TRU.com's "Email me when this item is available" button. Oh well, I'm sure it will show up in stores soon enough (along with the "TRU Tax" applied to it after about a week of being on the shelf).
For those of you who have this set, are the shoulders ball-jointed this time around? I know the knees and ankles are supposedly ball-jointed, but hadn't heard anybody comment on the shoulders yet.
-
Got this today, and it's all kinds of cool. My only gripe, and since there's a number of re-used parts I think it's fair, is that Hasbro easily could've done a modular blaster just as they have in the game, and put it into the pack so each soldier had a sniper rifle/blaster/grenade launcher attachment. It's incredibly simple really, and the Scorch blaster is already partway there to being modular anyway.
It would've been the "extra mile" they could've done to make it really special. Ditch the Geo even, for the updated weaponry true to the characters/game.
-
I picked this set up this past weekend and I have very mixed feelings about it. I honestly lean towards the 2006 set more because of the more bulky armor and the black lining around the visors.
Did Scorch have black armor or gray? I am not digging the black armor. I am not sure what set to get rid of.
-
I honestly lean towards the 2006 set more
Thank you for saying that. Another piece of evidence to help me rationalize skipping this set and saving S40. ;)
-
Depends on how you look at Scorch more, but for me the ability to actually pose them is nice. I'll deal with any possible inconsistancies on the armor deco then, but he looks good to me.
My old set, the figures fell easily and I had to heat/cool the feet so they were more stable. Which worked, but having the ability to do as I please with them is more fun. I've got them in a now much more realistic pose on my desk.
The armor is pretty accurate though... The RC's wear a heavier/bulkier armor to other Clones, so that's not really a bad thing, if you're looking at it from an accuracy standpoint.
They cut out some accessories like Scorch's ammo on his thigh, and Sev's ankle device, but nothing major and nothing I can't ultimately steal from the other figures to give to the new ones.
I find the colors more vibrant on these than the old set, and the guns are decoed better, but that's about it in difference in deco IMO. The poseability won me over.
-
Saw this pack and the KOTOR pack today. I made a choice and only bought the KOTOR set. I just didn't feel like spending $80 at TRU today.

Do you mean the TFU set?
-
Yup. Now I'm mixing up my EU video game titles? It is definitely time for a vacation.

No worries - for a second there you got my hopes up that I missed the news at that we were also getting a KOTOR box set, I'd LOVE for them to give us some more characters from those two games!
-
Nah, Hasbro said they're wrapping up RC and TFU so they can move onto TOR now, so KOTOR seems just as unlikely to get much unless it's overlapping into TOR.

Yeah - I know, wishful thinking on my part really...
-
I'd like some too, so I'm with you on it. I'd love a chromey Sith Trooper, a Republic Trooper, and a couple of the main party characters from KOTOR1 before they totally move on. Rep and SIth officers wouldn't hurt either. :-\ It's so old now though, and TOR is probably going to date it even more, so just probably a pipe dream.
-
Had an interview on the other side of town and made a stop at a nearby TRU I never go to. They had two of each set (RC and TFU) and I ended up getting the RC set since I never got the original. I also only have one Geonosian, so it was kind of a no-brainer for me. TFU set was enticing though...
-
This is now in stock again online at tru.com in case anyone is interested.
-
Good set, free Blackout, free shipping... That's a deal.
Plus it's fun to think we had some hand in the Commandoes getting an update. ;)

Is TRU a sponsor? I couldn't find a sponsor icon on the front page and wanted to make sure you guys get credit if I order a set. I picked up the TFU set, but have been waiting for a deal on the RC.
Anyone know of any coupons to throw on top of this? Looks like it is back at the full $40 price.
-
No, no sponsorship with TRU.
We appreciate the ? though, for sure. :) When in doubt tell 'em JD sent you, haha.

Bummer. Thanks for letting me know though. Are all the sponsors listed on the main page or do some of the ads rotate? It would be nice to have a sticky thread of current sponsors to remind us to visit JD first when buying online. You guys provide a great collector community here for free, so getting you credit when we're going to buy something anyway is kind of the least we can do! ;)

I received this set in the mail today and I'm glad I purchased it! I really like how Delta Squad looks, and the articulation is great! I'm looking at posing them in an urban ops type of set-up and the leg articulation will be crucial for that.
My only "gripe" is the weapon that Sev has. In the game he was a sniper, so I thought he should have a longer rifle...could be an easy fix with the extra weapons that came with the Saga Legends figures.
-
The thing on the weapons, and this bugs me too, is that theirs is a specially designed one (as per the game)... It's a base model with interchangeable parts, so you can slap the sniper attachment on and it's a marksman's rifle, or you can slap the mortar attachment on to lob explosives, or you can go with the basic assault configuration...
All 4 are trained at each other's jobs then, but the specialists in their specific "field" are integral to the team's overall success and stuff... I really had wished that Hasbro updated the weapons themselves to at least be specific to the characters, or to actually have the interchangeable parts (that would've been simply awesome).
I've seen some pretty slick customs of the weapons, but never one that swapped around perfectly.
Scorch's gun almost looks like it was meant to originally dismantle or something. It's one of those things on my "customizing to do list" someday. :)
-
I hear ya Jesse. I should be able to find something that will work, it would just be nice if I didn't have to.
I'm also considering a slight modification of Scorch so I can add the extra ammo from the Saga Scorch's leg. :D
-
A good idea... I'd go the route of an elastic band glued to the extra ammo so you're not having to mess up his leg. I vow to someday do a modular version of the Commando weapon though and it will have all the handy-dandy attachments needed. :)
-
I need to make that modification to Scorch as well, and track down the ankle thing for that other Commando. The lack of those two things is my only real gripe about the set.

i was hoping H would do something like marauder did with this, i mean how freakin cool would that be.
http://www.marauderinc.com/servlet/Detail?no=176
-
Marauder's stuff is simply a work of art. I've modified some guns to fit their scopes and other attachments, that way I can make Impy sniper rifles out of the sandtrooper guns and whatnot, but still have the ability to remove the scope.
The original "41st Elite" Clones were just repainted Scouts, so what i did was take them, give them modified Sandtrooper rifles like I said, a couple extra accessories and things, and turned them into a fan-fic "Imperial Pathfinders" squad... Like an elite/advanced group of the Scout Troopers sent to scout new planets or first into combat on hostile worlds.
I never liked that the scout armor wasn't changed for the ROTS 41st Elite Trooper at the time, but then the new figure came out, and I had a squad of those repainted VTSC Scouts so I had to do something with them I figured. :)
