Ditto. Two of each actually, so I'll have an extra of each of anyone's interested.

Yep, I got mine ordered from RoBBy.jp too. ;D

Hopefully I have better luck with these ones. My R2 died after 3 days - I'm assuming it's the batteries, but I haven't tried changing them yet. :-\

And holy gazooka's!
I just happened to have a review posted recently for the Tomy RC R2-D2 "RC-D2" (http://www.jedidefender.com/reviews/rcr2d2.php) (http://www.jedidefender.com/reviews/rots/rcr2d2.jpg)! Who'd have thunk it? So if you're wanting some opinion and a kick ass little video of the R2-D2 in action (courtesy of our photo phantom, Jared), I would highly recommend ya read it... :)
Those do look spiffy though and I have to say I've loved the R2-D2 since I got it. I want to build an obstacle course for it like a Mos Eisley Streets maze, or a Death Star hallways obstacle course thing. Yeah I'm a dip that way... To me that'd be fun little extras with the figures.
Favorite move with R2 is to have him whip a donut till he tips over. Don't know why but I laugh every time I do that...
And let me say the packaging on these is some of the best yet. Love the little plastic boxes they come in. $20's really pretty good for what you get with these and I'm a tightwad with the line.
-
It it wasn't for the fact that these are slightly (and it is slightly) out of scale, I'd be all over them.
-
And I thought I was picky about scale. ;)

i actually think scale - wise these are larger enough than the regular line for me to easily pass. i'm a 33/4" loose completest collector so i am actually thankful when i don't have to spend more money. this link shows a good comparison of the two different scales.

EDIT: the link will not paste correctly. the middle droid is obviously the TOMY RC and not the OTC version.
-
Actually I don't like that picture.
By placing the RC droid in the middle and then angling the two regular R2's the perspective is altered. Very similar to tricks used in the advertising industry to make other things appear larger relative to their competitors product. I'm not suggesting RS tried to do that, I don't think they did. But the unintentional placement changes the perspective. Even the leg positioning is not consistent. Look at the droid on the left in the picture, the angle of the legs is off from that of the RC droid giving a totally inaccurate height comparison.

yes, very good observation. hmmm..... now you are making me possibly re-think this a bit. dang you all to heck. ;D

Here is a shot I just took…
(http://www.yakface.com/jayson/astrocompare.jpg)
Left to Right: EIII R2-D2 #48, EIII R4-P17 #64/68, & Tomy RC R2-D2
As you can see the tomy droid is slightly taller, because of the height added from the wheels and the length of the legs are about 1/8" longer than the standard Hasbro sculpts. Hope this helps "darkksith".
-
Now THAT picture I like. Good representation and it saves me from having to dig out some droids to do the same thing. Thanks. 8)

Bumpski: I added a side view to show difference in leg length
-
Very nice comparison pics- I hadn't noticed the leg-length difference so clearly.
I just ordered R2-Q5. As long as I had to pay my tribute to get a VOTC case, I thought I should get one of these as well. I hope they are set up on a different frequency than R2-D2 so I can run them together.
-
I ordered my 2 R4-P17s and 2 R2-Q5s on 2/7/06. SWS.com recently updated the shipping schedule to April 7th.
If they make any more RC R-2 units I hope they make an R2-B1 and then concentrate on R2 units not yet represented as toys.
If the start making RC R-5s in attempt to catch up with the other models I'd be stoked.
-
Do we know if they will be on different frequencies (or whatever they are using) than R2-D2 or each other? Basically can all 3 be used at the same time? I'd love to get all 3 going at once with my daughter and nephew and have astromech races.
-
I'mg onna wager no on that Paul but the idea is the most logical.
Who here wouldn't be racing theirs with friends? I want to make a Death Star obstacle course for astromechs. :) That'd be the ultimate toy to accompany these if you ask me... lots of ramps, working elevators, tight turns, narrow walkways and such.
The RC-D2's are probably the best gimmick ever in the line...
-
Those last 2 ideas were really awesome guys! I never thought about doing that...yes, a course with obstacles that have to be carefully navigated..backwards diagonal turns ect.. just awesome!
As for me... I won't buy another of these until they come out with a different model like an R5 unit or something else different. I kinda feel 'cheapened' out sometimes when expensive product like this with same looks/capabilities is pushed with a different paint scheme. If I had my choice I certainly would have bought the black R2 unit instead of R2D2 IF they offered that first though. Oh well

I loved the first one so I hope that sws.com gets the other two in.
-
These are shipping out from Robby.jp this week 8)
-
I didn't pre-order these so I'm hoping I don't miss out on them. I couldn't afford the pre-order at the time so I held off... I may need to put in some kind of order though to SWS or something here... The first was great, the next two look fantastic too...
I still want an obstacle course for them. :)

Yepper, I got my confirmation. 8)
-
Shipping schedule updated again to April 17th, which probably means I'l get it in October or November....
-
Jon, I agree about feeling cheapened... Plus, they're droids we already have, and not exactly exciting color choices. Neither did much in the films, though to Q5's defense he'd be perfect for the Death Star obstacle course. :)
An R5 would be nice though... Still these appeal to me because they're something vastly different than we're used to, and at this point astromechs are tough to improve upon... You almost have to go the gimmick route, so I'm ok with them as is.
I still have to order these new ones if I want them... With how nice R2 is, I really want the set now, but an R5-D4 would be appreciated next time just because.
-
I just got my R4-P17, and R2-Q5 and I'm really glad I ordered them. Paint apps on each are excellent as are the surface details, and yes all 3 have their own frequencies, Let the droid races begin!
-
I imagine they don't have different "voices" than the RC R2?
-
Sweet, mine should be here sometime this week. Sitting at Vancouver customs right now. ;D
-
Different frequencies? Ooooooooo, that's a deal breaker, I must have these now.
-
They all sound the same. R4-P17 is painted slightly different than the ROTS version with gray on the legs and lower torso. My friends and I wore down the batteries racing these guys through obstacle courses Saturday night.
-
Just received my droids in the mail, very nice they are. 8) Will have to wait abit later to try them out. ;D
-
Where did you order from Dale? I'm waiting on my order from Robby, so it should be here any day now.
-
I ordered them from Robby, I got dinged customs from Canada Post. >:(

I ordered 2 of each from Robby - how bad did customs rape you? Just wondering if I need to lube up before going to the post office.
-
I ordered 3 of each, they hit me with $13.41.
$8. was the handling fee... basturds! >:(
