It's weird here right now...  There's big headlines in the paper saying the Pens are for sale, Lemieux's denying that but making it strongly known that they're ONLY going to stay if the Pens get the (increasingly important) Slots Gambling License...  That or they head off to Sin City.

Which makes sense in every way, I can't argue with that really and the Mellon (Civic) Arena is old and ******.  Hell it leaked on an NCAA game the other day (it has I believe the largest retractable roof in the world, and I've been there on the really REALLY odd occassion it was opened for a Roller HOckeyc game eons ago, and it is cool but rarely ever used).  Pittsburgh has to **** or get off the pot (and the state of PA more to the pint, and Rendel and the state control who gets that gambling license in Pitt), and the Pens need that license...  The Steelers and Pirates got individual stadiums they really didn't need individually, but because neither would cooperate they got their own digs.  PNC's pretty but the Pirates suck worse than the Pens if you ask me, and deserved it less.

I'm hoping they get their arena so I have hockey here to go to for a while.  Watched ag ame tonight and really it's sad because things just don't go their way.  they play well, but a bad call or bounce goes against hte Pens and all hell breaks loose with less than 5 minutes to go.  It's sad, and that's been their season.  If they can weather this year, get their new arena, then I think they can come out as a better team next year.

The new head coach has said there's tons of internal problems with the team.  Guys who blatantly don't care...  He's working to eliminate that, however I think some older guys may be to blame there and they're just not naming names...  I'm wagering it's ugly with some guys who think they don't have to work hard, and then we have this AMAZING young team waiting to just be let loose...  I think some of the old guys are anchors though holding them back.  Hockey fans in this city are just sitting back and waiting to see what happens.

Right now, it's all Pittsburgh Steelers in town though.  You can't imagine how it's taken over unless you were here.  Our news teams are almost all doing Denver stories...  Last week almost the entire News world from Pitt had gone to Indy to report...  Even the regular anchors were just doing their show out there.  It was weird.

Anyway, watched the Pens drop a game where they played GREAT but a goal got claled back they should've gotten that, I believe, would've turned the game's tide toward the Pens right at the end.  Stuff like that is the Pens season this year.  It's depressing as a fan, but you stick by and hope for the best and move on.

Oh - and then they always go to JD to post their jokes about me (and Dustin, Philip, DBB, etc) because they all lack the required "hardware" to post it here and to our faces

I LOVE this quote...  Why?

Because it's MisterKenobi's lameass way of trying to drag Dustin, Philip, and DBB into his little ****fest, and hopefully have them take action on people there, for what is said here.

Fact is, nobody who's isn't banned there is saying much about those three.  I don't make fun of any of them.  I don't care for their way of running things at RS either and I voice that, but I hardly "offend" any of them.  I'm sure DBB when he comes to Pittsburgh (he keeps saying he wants to go to Comic-Con some year) will get a PM from me to let him know he can contact me when he's in town.  I don't care.  Dustin and Philip would too if they were coming to Pittsburgh just because I'm a cordial kinda guy even if we have had disagreements...

The thing is though, KitKatFlimFlam's just trying WAY too hard over there to really get people in trouble for **** they do here.  If anything, if I were Philip or Dustin, I'd be GOOD and pissed right now that wonder twat Mister Kenobi decided to bring stuff FROM here over there.  You want someone to throw the book at?  It's that sopping wet ******bag, because he should have his head far enough out his ass not to bring up JD...  Afterall, our staff have learned what the response is when you do, so why would he think his saying stuff there is any more acceptable on their site?  Stupid.

Seriously, when will he get "it" that people talk about RS here because they CAN'T talk about it at RS?  Because a lot were banned for criticizing the site, so now they're basically saying everything here about everything wrong with that site in this thread.  We don't care...  If anything, it's good to vent and god knows we all share that common bond in how we feel about over there.

I like how he brought out people's names directly over there...  I'd really think that those attacks openly there, where he knows he can't really do that, would be looked at closely by their site's staff.  I know Rob and efranks have good names there among the membership.  It's only MisterKenobi who they don't like, and who they talk openly about OVER HERE.  I don't know when he'll ever "get it".

Oh I don't like the Veers figure a whole lot overall, I just liked the smoother sculpt and color on him.  I don't really like the figure overall though.

My beefs are:

-No knee joints (bummer, and it'd be nice to get ONE good poseable imperial officer at some point)
-No back armor piece...  I've seen better customs of that removable armor.  If it's done for you already, just copy what some customizer did and do it right ya know?
-No removable hat?  That's just lazy on Hasbro's part.  Make the hat removable, and you have a better figure I think, and it'd have made me buy many for customizing.

As it stands I'll perhaps get two.  This figure just isn't good enough for me to justify army building or buying for customs fodder though, so however many I would have bought has gone out the window.  It's now two at most, maybe just one.  I'll make a better one some day.  The artriculation and hat really killed it for me.  I was really amped to get him, but now Derlin and the AT-AT Driver are just more appealing.  Hell I'd rather get the gonk at this point.  Veers really just became a let down.

I do think he's a better base Imperial Officer body than Ozzel though.  Ozzel's good, but the texture is too much, and the color is nowhere near correct.

Hope there's some impy's and rebel military types.  I refuse to buy anything from Official Pix because they put stupid logos on everything, and it sorta ruins the pic for me.  I prefer getting it myself on a non-messed up photo or something.

About the only non-military characters I'd be up for getting an auto from are Bulloch and maybe a handful of other minor characters.  Not much.  So like young Boba and Beru from the prequals kinda bums me out.  I hope many others sign on.  This was during C3 last year, that wasf unny.  I can't imagine many SW fans were ga-ga to go to it.  I was bummed they didn't adjust dates so we could go to it too another weekend.

Star Wars Dioramas and Displays / Re: Death Star custom project
« on: January 19, 2006, 01:34 AM »
Well...  Hmmm

Are you looking to expand it left, right, the center, etc.?  That'll sort of effect my opinion.

I'd look up a plastics distributor in your area.  GE POlymer Shapes is mine, a division of GE of course, and they sell giant sheets (if you have a truck, it's something you're gonna need) for cheap.  Enough you could do several floors up for it...  Really nice.

For detail work you can hit up the local hobby shop that has a full evergreen display or plasti-struct display.  Mine, unfortunately, is being persnickity and not putting a good display up, so I gotta drive a little ways.  That's the detail work though.

The big sheets are what you need.  Not too thin, but not too thick either or it'll be too thick to just score and snap off pieces you want.  I have some here that I need to use a jigsaw to cut.  Cool for projects where "thick armor" is a neat look, but a pain to work with compared to T-squares and Box cutter blades, ya know?

I'd say, I could see you doing a single stright rectangular "box" pieces that attaches to one END of the playset you have set up in that picture.  If you could get a 3rd playset (mostly complete) and finish the guntowers at the top, you would really have a cool gunnery tower actually (there were I believe 3 in a row visible).  The sorta rounded end would be cool looking I think, and then you'd have the other side (say the right side for arguments sake) as a complete, large "box" that makes up a structure on the Death Star's surface...

On the interior of the sets you have, I'd elmiminate at least one of the "chasm swing" levels by making it a solid floor, or opening it up as a chasm with no bridge...  Wish I could draw this stuff for you DD, I have some cool mental images on it actually.

For the trash compactor I'd scrap much of what the set has and see if you can't actually build soemthing around the Screen Scene playset actually.  The base is fantastic, you'd have to build the walls though.

Sounds like a lot of work what I'm suggesting, and I'm sure it would be, but it's just some thoughts I had.  Not sure what kind of size you're wanting to go for with that beast.

I agree Bob, though I was really bummed to see Hasbro sculpted all "action" poses for these holos.  Kids honestly could probably give a crap about these things.  Not like they're gonna make blue plastic blobs battle or anything, but a neutral Vader as he appeared to Veers is the one they should have tried to do neutrally so it really was also an interactive accessory with figures.

"Super Articulation isn't defined by anyone, so complaining about it is stupid, blah blah blah blah"

Sorry, I'm just venting about some of the blabbering I read at some other site, from some of their assumed recent massive head trauma patients.    ;)

Seriously though Paul, I figured you'd be on those two.  I'd probably settle for a handful of Tuskens to complement the impressive army I somehow accumulated of all the other scultps.  Not to say I wouldn't take a dozen, but 6 probably would make me happy.

The Scout Trooper though...  Ugh.  I want I think 20.  I want less than my Stormie army, however if I threw my CT's into that mix then I'm thinking I may want 30 or so Scouts if I can find them in that kind of abundance.  Stan (who shows up here from time to time) said a new Speederbike may be around the corner.  Could it be made with this figure in mind?  I dunno.

I'd like a hefty Scout army  though as they were in fairly heavy rotation with Stormies on Endor, and my Stormie army really shocked me as to how many I had when I tallied them up the other day, so now I know I want scouts to go with them.

I wish Hasbro would recirculate these VOTC figures that are prefection throughout the line.  The sculpt is there, use it.  Stormies need out on the pegs, that Chewbacca could be re-used with both its headsculpts, Han should be re-used.  I'd buy Leia again if they maybe put a hood-up head on her.  VOTC sculpts are as close to perfect as it gets generally, I wish we would see these re-used more often than they seemingly want to.  I mean, Cantina Han again!?  ****.  >:(

Those were reasons I liked Veers more than Ozzel (just by pics, I don't own him yet).  The uniform on Ozzel was too textured (less is more), and a smoother sculpt ala the Motti figure looks more real, and those uniforms were more a German field grey than that weird color of Ozzel's outfit, or the Tarkin figure's outfit...  Hasbro's got the weirdest color mishmashes going for their Impy Officers though right now.  Not a one matches.

Hey, anyone that knows me knows I'm the first to pipe up about articulation...  Cody, as of now, hasn't got me too upset.  I thinkt hose elbow joints are deceivingly posed, and I think there's more to that articulation point than we're thinking.

Ankle joints I like, but that's the one new articulation point we've seen in recent years that, if it came down to it, I can live without...

The things I'm sure, or semi-sure, are omitted on Cody are his shoulders aren't ball/socket, and his ankles don't appear to be articulated, and I'll live with that...  If his arms are angle-cut (AT-TE Gunner style joints), at that point I'm going to be highly disappointed.  It will render the figure barely poseable.  You'll get a couple poses, that'll be it.  The ball/socket elbow is much more important, and hides perfectly, so that will be disappointing.

I see a ball/socket torso, and knees, so I'm happy there.  Those elbows are my only concern, and I really can't tell what's doing, but I do know that a ball/socket can look like that, and so can the AT-TE Gunner's arm.  It's weird how they have him posed.

I really think speedermike's in the vast miniority to have seen that many figures from the line.  :)  I know I haven't.  There's a LOT I never saw.

However I agree with him, it's too early to panic.  They showed what, last week?  So they're gonna ship.  Carkoon wills hip too I figure.  I just saw my first multiple Carkoon Wave this week, so I'm sure these just need some time...  I feel behind though, so I know that antsy feeling.  I need to finish my Carkoon needs, and then I gotta get everything from Hoth, so yeah I'm behind too.

Patience...  It's key.  However, the final 12 proved to be a real "you miss 'em, you lose".  That sucked.  Hasbro screwed the pooch with the last ROTS figures, BIGTIME.  People being gunshy and worried about finding stuff has some basis too.

18283
From a strict business sense, any noise is good noise, but of course things aren't that simple...  So Jay's got a point, but in the end I think if they go the "worst case scenario" route, then we'll see a negative backlash which isn't what the possible intent is...  Well it certainly isn't of course.

But, I'm leaning more and more to a packaging thing.  Still, people need to band together with local collectors, team up and get those sets if you want the exclusive...  I know I do, as odd as it is, but if these turn out hard to find it'll be a mess no matter what it is...  Packaging for (*gulp*) figures, that are the real "bounty hunt" item.

I hope for packaging since it's happening one way or another, but I have my sympathies for the carded guys, no doubt.

Mattkatandicanthitthepostbuttonfastenough is a prime example.  I've seen where he tried to use his post count as a reason why his incorrect answer to a question should be accepted as fact.  When proved wrong he dismissed it and argued that he was a "respected" member and then proceeded on to the second method of trying to become relevant; name dropping.

That reminds me E, of the time I saw him post something to (how does he call it?  A "newb"?) someone over there one time.  KitKatFlimFlam told this new guy something along the lines of, "You've only been here blah blah, and you should learn to respect the people who've been here longer".  Yes, the same guy who just celebrated his first year there openly, was talking down to some new guy about seniority.

This is also the same guy who basically tried to put down every OLDER person in time spent at that forum for calling him on all his various bull**** posts, his random trolling of forum members, his flaming insults, etc...  The guy lives in this world where time and space only applies to the universe as he sees fit I guess, and in this little world he's the "senior" guy everywhere somehow, and feels HIS seniority demands respect...  Not that he should respect HIS "elders"...

And let's get to the meat of this...  You earn respect, you don't get it by the number of years you've spent on Earth, or at a toy site.  If you're a respectable person you get respect, and if you're a total ******bag, you get treated as though you are.  His little badge could be 20 colored blocks wide over there, and **** up the way the page is viewed for all I care, I still wouldn't give him an ounce of respect till I saw him behave like something other than a prick.  If you can't show to me that you can interact with people WITHOUT picking a fight all the time, talking down to others, turning a simple disagreement into mudslinging insults, then I'm sorry but there's no respect being earned or deserved there.  MatKat could've created Rebelscum and I'd still feel this way.  I don't care how "senior" he feels he is.  He's got some years of growing before he sees this light I'm afraid.
