Galactic Hunter story and pics (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=2437&zoneid=2)
Anyone interested in these things?
Eight characters/"masks" total:
- Artoo-Detoo (full-body)
- C-3PO
- Darth Vader
- TIE Fighter Pilot
- Stormtrooper
- Tusken Raider
- Jawa
- Eighth "mystery" character (which I'm assuming is Boba Fett)
A package of eight will sell for around 3,000 Yen in April.
A couple of questions, because I'm a dumbass:
-How much in U.S. dollars is 3,000 Yen?
-And I've never ordered any Japanese imports before--what's a good import site to order these from, or should I just wait for them to hit Ebay?
-If I want doubles of a certain character, would it be best to order a full set, and then try to pick up the double separately, or should I just order two sets, and then sell off the rest of the second set?
These things remind me of those MicroMachine heads from a few years ago--the little clam-shell type things that had mini dioramas in them. I liked those so much, I glued little magnets on the backs of 'em, and had those up on the 'fridge for a while. These things are obviously much nicer, though.
-
Today 3000 Yen = $26.97 US
HLJ has been good for most of us ordering Kubrick's. Dale orders a fair bit of other stuff from them as well. I've also ordered other Tomy items and have been completely satisfied with them. Shipping is fair for overseas.
I'd grab two sets and sell off the spares. JMO of course, but easier than trying to chase one down. I guess it depends on what the spares are. If it's the mystery piece, two sets for sure. Jawa or Tusken maybe ebay as they might not be the hot pieces.

Not bad, not bad. Around $3.50 each, not counting shipping, I guess.

www.hlj.com, I'm guessing? I'll check them out.

Well, it was the Tusken I was wanting a double of, actually. Hmmm. . .
Thanks for your help, Brent!

www.hlj.com it was, in fact, they've already got a page set up for pre-orders:

Yen price: 3,200--about $28.56 USD--about $174.83 Canadian.

So true!
These look neat & it sounds like there packed the same way Kubricks are. I wonder what the secret character is?
-
I took some time to look at the GH info.
Blind packaging, great. ::)
The Tomy mini-dioramas (is this a replacement for them??) were blind packaged as well. I suppose this goes over well in Japan where the retailer cracks the cases and puts them out. Fun of the chase and all that. With the first set of mini-dioramas, I obtained mine through trade with a fellow in Japan. He had the worst time getting the R2/3PO set for me. I traded initially for 7 or 8 unopened boxes. I received 4 of the 5 dioramas and he was good enough to go hunting for them. I don't know how many he bought, but quite a few until the elusive droids showed up. It worked out well in the end as the value of series 1 climbed and he was able to sell them all.
For series 2, rather than going through the grief and cost ($22 to send a small package to Japan) I opted to order a case from HLJ.com (sorry 'bout that) in the hopes of getting a complete set. The case contained 10 pieces, supposedly randomly packed. Upon opening all 10 pieces it turned out that I got 2 complete sets. Not sure if the packing is a little less random than indicated or I just lucked out.
I'm surprised to see boxes of 8 for a series of 8. The paranoid side of me is concerned. I like them all, but could live without some. The optimist says all 8 will be in a single case and the randomness comes in Japan when retailers move them from boxes to diplay shelving, somebody walks in and buys one or two. The next eight you grab could be duplicates.
I believe I'll snag these as well, but now I'm torn as to what to do. One or two cases? The price is not that prohibitive and landed I can probably get two boxes of these for the same price as a case of Kubricks. Hmm....
Has anyone seen anything about Tomy mini dioramas series 3?????????
-
Yeah, I'm thinking about ordering two boxes as well--should get at least one complete set out of those, and whatever duplicates I have left over should be pretty easy to get rid of, either by trading or selling. . .
-
That pretty much covers my thinking. The selections are nice enough that it shouldn't be difficult at all.
-
yeah, these guys look great. i'm gonna have to get a set for the fridge... the one in my kitchen, not william
**(for those youngsters reading this - william "refrigerator" perry was a defensive lineman for the chicago bears in the 80's) ;D

So, it's April now, and these things are supposed to be available this month, so I checked the website above, and instead of saying "preorder" (or whatever it said before), now it says "Order Stop", with a mean-lookin' blue X.
So, for those that have ordered this type of crap before, what's the deal? Is this place going to be taking any more orders? Are there other good sites that will have these things available? Will I just have to get 'em on Ebay now? Am I totally S.O.L.? Can I ask any more annoying questions?
Tune in next week. . .
-
I have had this order stop with HLJ before. You can click on the words "Order Stop" next to the X & it will open another window.
This is the explanation:
This is a new item that has not yet been released by the manufacturer. We have already taken more orders than we expect to be able to fill. No further orders will be accepted until supplies are confirmed when the product is released.
Out-of-stock items are displayed with squares (in-stock items with circles). Blue squares with a white X indicate items that have not yet been released, but for which we are no longer accepting orders because we expect supplies to be limited.
In some cases, even prior to release, our suppliers inform us that the amount of a new product we can buy may be limited. If we take more orders for something that we can reasonably expect to fill, we will place that item in this "order stop" status until we can confirm how many pieces will be available at the time of release. If we fill all pre-orders, and still have stock remaining, then the item will be put on regular, in-stock status and we'll begin accepting orders again.
There just overwhelmed with the pre-orders & stopped taking any more untill they get the stock in. Hopefully your orders will be fine unlike my Kubrick cases that got cancelled! :-\
Just sign in to HLJ from time to time & check your order status. :-*

Well, that's the whole thing, is that I never got around to putting any orders in--I was just planning to wait until they were available and in stock before I ordered any and now it looks like (at least at this site), I won't be able to order anything.
I do appreciate the information, though.
Thanks a lot.
-
The thing I find with HLJ is if they have a pre-order, best to jump on it. I do that with all my collectibles from them. The last order I got came in & was filled & as soon as they shipped it, it was discontinued. ;D
They still might have them when they ship there orders out. All depends on there supplier. Hope you get a set. :)
-
Just another reason for you to hate me Matt. I ordered mine as soon as the Tomy mini dioramas were put up, hopefully saving on shipping, but we'll see. You're welcome to any duplicates I have, but a box of 8 from a series of 8 with Tomy usually means complete set, even if the boxes are packed blind.
-
Just another reason for you to hate me Matt.
Hate you? Hell no, dude. But I will say one thing:
In my personal opinion it's wrong for grown men to buy magnets that are engineered for refrigerators. It may not be in anyone elses opinion, and quite frankly, I think there is some defective reasoning to be accounted for on this board.
-
That's exactly what my wife said to me :-X

Oh....no, not here too. ::)
What does that big old question mark mean? And if it's a chase, it really scares me about the case assortment in an 8pack. Aaaaaaaaaargh.
-
The question mark is for the "secret" character, which has been revealed to be Boba Fett.
I've been casually looking for other sites for these things, but have been coming up empty.
Any of you Japanese importers have any other ideas where I might be able to score these things?
-
The set will be released in 29 April :)
Anyone who want the set and willing to trade, please check out my trade list (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?board=22;action=display;threadid=3497) and contact me.Thanks.

D'oh. thanks.
Unfortunately, I have no other place I've ever ordered from in Japan or Asia for that matter. Sorry :-\

Mystery Magnet Revealed (http://www.rebelscum.com/article.asp?i=46949)
-
The set out now here today.Set of 8 with chase Boba Fett about US$40.Set of 7 without chase about US$30.The chase Boba is quite hard to come by.The ratio is in about 10 boxes have only 3.I have 1 set of 7 for trade. If you are interested, please e-mail to me.
Thanks,
wai
-
Yeah I just saw these on eBay and was going to let everyone know...thanks wai :-*
-
Sorry to say that the set of 8 with chase Boba now raised to US$50 >:(
-
I see that Action-HQ has these in stock.
$54.95 plus shipping for the set of 8 with Boba Fett Chase.
Action-HQ (http://www.action-hq.com/cgi-bin/action-hq/oth001276.html)
Not my thing, but I thought I'd post if any of you guys were still looking...
Jeff
-
I would think US retailers will be importing these...pretty much everything else has been
-
My guess is they'll show at BBTS if nowhere else. Still waiting for my confirmation of shipping email from HLJ, though they may be waiting for the 3rd series of Tomy mini dioramas to show before shipping.
-
I received my confirmation of shipping for the magnets from HLJ today. I placed my order back on 3/7/04. I only ordered one box of 8...maybe not a wise move since I'm wanting all 8.....I hope teh blind pack is one of each.
-
Hmm, hopefully mine comes soon. My hotmail has been pretty screwy lately. Just got a message now (9:00) that was sent at 1:30 this afternoon :-\
-
So, my computer was out of commission for a couple of weeks, and of course, during that time, Action HQ gets these things in.
Last week, the computer's fixed, but I forget about Action HQ until today, and naturally, they're sold out of the sets for $55.
The Question of the Day:
Should I wait for them to get some more in?
Should I try some other site that might have them in stock?
Should I just say "screw it", and go to Ebay?
Tune in next week for the exciting conclusion!
-
Screw it and go to ebay. Chuckles (Jim) got a set for not much more than what I'm paying for a box from HLJ. You could alternately wait to see if BBTS gets them in.
My confirmation of shipping finally came from HLJ today.
boba.......boba........boba........boba..... ah screw it, it never worked last time
-
boba.......boba........boba........boba..... ah screw it, it never worked last time
LOL. Sorry, this did make me laugh. ;D
-
The complete set with chase Boba became very hard to find now even in Hong Kong & Japan. So if you see the set sell for around US$55 or less, just grab it.The ratio to get Boba about 2 in every 10 big boxes(8 small boxes in each).Good luck in finding chase Boba :)
-
My box of magnets came today :D As with all things HLJ, customs fees accompanied the box :(
these are really, really blind packed. The boxes are sealed just like Kubrick and Tomy boxes (mini dioramas, that is). Even better, once you get the box open, you are met with a black plastic bag, so you have to cut/tear that open as well. No cheating on these bad boys. As a third layer of protection, they are encased in plastic so even if you could get the bag open, you'd be feeling through a plastic 'frame'.
I have to say, I love this idea of packaging like this with these ones. I would hate it if I had to go to a retail storefront and pick boxes that might have been moved around from case to case, so you could conceivably end up with 8 3PO or something hideous like that.
R2 so far.
-
Sounds cool, I've resisted these bad boys, wouldn't mind a Vader though if you get doubles ;)
-
Not looking good. Despite my earlier comment, if you 'fondle' the package appropriately, you can tell what is inside. I'm at the following:
R2-D2
C-3PO
Tie Pilot
Jawa x2 - I believe this pretty clearly states no Boba for me :-\
carrying on...
-
Vader Vader Vader (x2)
-
Nope, sorry :-\
It's pretty much as I expected for a Tomy case. I had a shot at the Boba and thus a complete set. As soon as I opened the second Jawa, I knew I was hooped with the Boba magnet.
So it's a good news, bad news case. Good in the sense that minus Boba, I have the complete set. This was the reason for ordering a case, Tomy usually does this with this type of thing. Bad is that not only did I not get a Boba, I got one of the suckier magnets in terms of popularity as a duplicate. Oh, I know, lots of folks are Jawa fans, just not me. I was hoping for the dupe to be Vader for Scott, Tusken for Matt or even a Tie or Stormie for some trade value. Not expecting a lot of requests for mister Jawa.
The magnets are nicely done though. The detail is good and they'll look pretty cool. I'm a little concerned about the strength of the magnet though. It's a pretty small disk in the center of the back of the plastic portion.
Got GITDH only to have Boba magnet replace it.
-
That's OK...most of these are only being sold in sets right now, not a pressing need, just look good on Ye Olde Fridge 8)
Boba Boba Boba
-
OK, so I finally broke down and ordered a set of these including the chase Boba Fett (since he was the one I wanted most, of course ::) ) and they arrived today. These things are very detailed, more than I would have imagined. They are a great set. Anyone else besides Brent get them?
-
Yep, I have full set of the 8 too. Very nice pieces. I have them hanging on one of the lone metal spots in my collection room.
I wonder if they'll ever make any new ones?
-
Now available in America! (http://shop.starwars.com/Product/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=664) Y'know, I'm like a sick, twisted puppy that keeps going back to its owner that beats it. SWS.com has these things in stock and yes indeedy, you have a shot at the Boba magnet ::) Anyone want to sell me one of them? Geez, I sound like
Colman Alice.

I wonder who the chase is this time?
Can I get an amen for "Jar-Jar Binks"?
Mesa not liking that chase figure
-
You know what I liked better about the first set? No faces. Not a one, the closest was the Tusken Raider (still have a spare if anyone needs it?) or Jawa, but even then they weren't faces. From that pic, I'm not overly keen on Maul, Yoda or Chewie, regardless of how cool their characters may be.
I may pass on these, but if anyone wants to sell me duplicates of the Royal Guard and Biker Scout, I'd be up for that.
-
If anyone is interested, HLJ has the Mask Magnet Collection #2 (http://www.hlj.com/product/AMD03574) up for pre-order. Listed for a May release and at this time listed for $29.03 US for a box of 8 pieces.

Just picked up the Boba Fett and R2-D2 and these are awesome.
-
If anyones looking for the first series I have an extra....
Darth Vader
C-3PO
R2-D2
That I'd sell or trade.
I also went ahead and pre-ordered a set of 8. Hope I have better luck and get the "secret" magnet this time!
-
I ordered a set from SW Shop, they just arrived today. My "secret" magnet was Fett. SWEET!!! ;D
$35 plus shipping was well worth it for the set of 8.
-
Congrats Sharon, that's fantastic news. I'd love to get hold of that Boba magnet to finish the set off.
If anyone ends up with spares of Royal Guard, Biker Scout, Clone Trooper or Maul down the line, lmk, I'll buy them off you. I just don't like the Yoda/Greedo magnets. :-\
-
Yoda and Greedo are the only magnets I like :) Myabe someone will sell them for $5 a pop.
-
BBTS has the Star Wars Magnets Series 2 Box of 8
(http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/toystan.asp?Queryid=pr480) up for pre-order. $42.99
-
Well it seems that the new collection 2 magnets have hit the market.
HLJ has them showing as "Just In" (http://www.hlj.com/product/AMD03574) but low on stock. They have been showing up on eBay.
The chase magnet is Leia Boushh. Go get em gang. ;)
-
Hmm, those look good in that pic. Still not that keen on non-helmets. Would like to get just the Royal Guard and Biker Scout if I could (Boushh too ::))
-
Just recieved my magnets from HLJ and of course my poor luck continues...no chase magnet...the the rest are awesome!!
-
HLJ has Series 3 up for pre-order.
Star Wars Mask Magnet Collection #3 1 Box (8pcs) (http://www.hlj.com/product/AMD03875)

These are looking pretty sweet - even the faces (non-masks) look realistic, especially the Emperor!
-
Oh man. These things are great! Have to stay away though.
I`m trying to get the other Tomy Dioramas that I want now, not too expensive, but
pain to find some of them, especially the early ones.
-
Any speculation on the chase for this set? Shocktrooper? 501st??
-
Any speculation on the chase for this set? Shocktrooper? 501st??
That's a tough one. Most of the magnets are ROTS, but an OT and AOTC thrown in to throw me off. Hmmm. I'm going to say there's a theme with the Kubricks and pick Snaggletooth as the chase.
-
Question...why is thsi thread say TOMY when these magnets are made by Kotobukiya....not TOMY? NO biggie, just curious to see if maybe I was confused or if the two companies were related.
-
Question...why is thsi thread say TOMY when these magnets are made by Kotobukiya....not TOMY? NO biggie, just curious to see if maybe I was confused or if the two companies were related.
I asked Jeff about this and he had a great answer for me. Basically, Kotobukiya is the manufacturer, but TOMY is the distributor. So they are still made by Koto, but TOMY slaps their name on the box too.
-
These were released in Hong Kong today!
Chase magnet is C-3PO and a Gree variant was found. The action heats up.. ;)

Interestingly, the Gamorrean Guard is not in this pic.
-
Anyone has a spare Chewie magnet? I need just him. They're all over Ebay but they want $15 to ship it and that's just insane...
-
I was under the distinct impression that these are made by Koto, and not Tomy. The boxes I have say as much.

Yeah, we were discussing this earlier:

I believe the earlier series had TOMY's name on the boxes, but it's interesting that all they have is Koto now.
-
A lot of things changed when Tomy merged with Takara last year. It is possible that TOMY is no longer the distributor this time around and that is why they were dropped from the box.
-
I was just getting ready to change the title myself when I noticed JesseVader had already done it.
Good thing, that--we can all get back to living our lives now.
Whew.
-
Whatever the name may be, I picked up another couple of pieces from Series 2 today. This time it was Chewbacca and the Biker Scout. My fridge has never looked better!
The collector shop I went to wasn't sure when they might get series 3 in. I was told to check back later in the week and they may have some info about when it's arriving at their location.
-
My Series 3 set shipped from HLJ on 4/20...can't wait to get them although I'm currently 0 for 2 on getting the secret magnet so far thru the first two series :'(
-
I saw this on the Slave1 site, Kotobukiya Real Mask Magnets Series 4 2007 (http://www.slave1.jp/forum/YaBB.cgi?board=OtherCollectibles;action=display;num=1186818931).

Nice find Dale! I was wondering if we might ever get some more of these.
-
Yup, I love these.
I might have to get a few.
CB
-
Definetely will need the At-At and VADER!!!! ;D
-
I see that HLJ has the Mask Magnet Collection #4 (http://www.hlj.com/product/AMD04281) up for preorder, approx $32.77 for a box of 8 with a November release.
Preorder this item by Sept. 5 to get it for 5% off the regular price of 4,000 yen!
-
Sorry if I may have asked this before, but does HLJ take Paypal?
And if anyone here ordered these in the past, what was the shipping cost?
Thanks
CB
-
Yes, HLJ does take Paypal & the shiping cost is not determined till they ship but you can get a rough idea in the link below. Stuff I have ordered in the past I have not had any problem with the costs.
Pay by Credit Card or PayPal (http://www.hlj.com/overview/hlj_payment.html)
How much will shipping cost? (http://www.hlj.com/hlj_shipping.html)
-
Thanks for the info!
CB
-
Hmm. Considering how difficult it was to get the last set, I may have to hit up HLJ for the new series.
-
Anyone know a good source for the Chase Magnets?
CB
-
Anyone interested in trades?
I have some Kubricks I may trade for some Magnets.
CB
-
So did anyone order these? And did they ship in November?
-
I did not order them, but yes they shipped out the first week of December.
The chase magnet for Series 4 is Admiral Ackbar:

Ahhh, thanks for the info Jeff. I think I might have to order them, or check Toy Tokyo in Manhattan one day.
-
Got my set from HLJ.
I got lucky and got the Ackbar.
CB

If anyone has a series 4 Vader with removeable helmet for sale please let me know !! ;)

I don't remember hearing any mention of this set.

No news on these at all?
We need more of these!

At my local Target I noticed Star Wars magnetic helmets by the sports card display. $4 for a "pack" with one of 34 random helmets inside. You can feel the package and probably tell what you are getting. I was tempted to buy one, but decided to pass.
-
Were they just flat magnets ?
-
Were they just flat magnets ?
No they are "3D". Maybe one square inch-ish.
-
From what I've been reading, these are the same magnets as the Kotobukiya helmets from the last couple years. I have the Vader one and it's done very well.
-
Yep, I just took a look at these at my local Target and they're the same deal. Distributed in the US by Artbox.
-
After drooling over these for years without pulling the trigger I went to Target today and bought a full box of 24...with the thought that there are 24 in a case and 24 different magnets, there wouldn't be any doubles. If I started pulling dupes I could just return some
After opening a few I realized that the 24 in a box 24 different magnets was correct...also lucky that nobody else had bought them. It looks like it is Series 1, 2 and 4:

Emperors Royal Guard

Admiral Ackbar
I also had a $20 gift card...so for 24 Magnets I paid a grand total of $76. Patience wins (for once)!
-
Nice score Scotty! How many different series are there? I'd be tempted to bite, but I'd want a complete collection if I did.
-
Missing is Series 3 which contained:
Emperor
Grievous
Jango
Magna Guard
Ep3 Clone
Commander Cody
Gammorean Guard
Shiney C-3PO (chase)
Commander Gree (variant chase)
-
Damn!
It has the Leia I missed!
Might have to snag these.
Doc
-
Like Scott, I've always wanted to grab these, but never pulled the trigger. I always figured they'd be easy to display on the bar fridge.
I wasn't as lucky at finding a full box, so I only grabbed the last 17 my local Target had. Haven't had a chance to open them to see what I got.
Anyone know an easy way to determine what's in the bag without opening it? At a cursory feel, it seemed it'd be a bit tough to determine the character.

I don't recall any way to tell what was in them, but it's been a long time since I bought these as I was only in during the first release. I think they're cool, but still only really liked the helmets. If you had dupes of any of the following you'd have an instant market:
biker scout
royal guard
series 4 vader
AT-AT driver.

I always sort of admired these from afar as well, so I may check what our local Targets have as well. I don't necessarily need them all, and if nothing else, I'd at least like to get the R2 and 3PO for the fridge. Pretty slim odds of just finding two of them like that though I suppose, but the others look great as well.

I have the Vader from the TOMY release, but didn't realize they had also put out a "revealed" (removable helmet) version as well. It's now part of Artbox's rereleases, so I've already managed to get a deal on one from someone so I don't have to track it down on ebay.

Like Scott, I've always wanted to grab these, but never pulled the trigger. I always figured they'd be easy to display on the bar fridge.
I wasn't as lucky at finding a full box, so I only grabbed the last 17 my local Target had. Haven't had a chance to open them to see what I got.

I don't think so.
You can feel around the bag and guess a few but its a stretch.
I grabbed one from the box, there were only a few left, I ended up with Nine Numb (already had).
I missed a few secrets with these but I think there is only one of them in the Target releases, Leia Boussh, so I'll just take a shot once and awhile to see if I can get it.

Never got these:
Shiney C-3PO (chase)
Commander Gree (variant chase)
or Boussh
This is one series I'd love to complete though.

Not sure where to get these:
Also coming in March from Ensky is a nifty set of R2 magnets, previously offered at last year's Celebration Japan with the exception of R2-Q5 -- that's the black one -- which has been added to the set for this new offering.

Anyone know of a good place to trade these? I have a couple dupes and I'm looking for a few.

Given they seem to have just come out recently stateside I think you'll see slim pickings trading wise. If I recall correctly on their initial release it was only Japanese retailers (and maybe later SWS.com?) that had them and you could only order by the case. I think I have a spare Tusken Raider somewhere but most people would only have a single spare piece (or two, I can't remember exactly what the box content was) from each wave, so unlikely to be a big market out there unfortunately. You're probably better off trying to sell them and seeing if you can pick up what you otherwise need.

Thanks MorgBug. I appreciate the input. I wonder what Yoda, a Stormie, and two Luke X-Wings will fetch on eBay. lol

Oh yes...and FYI, you can grab that at HLJ.com for $8.00 on clearance. I grabbed two sets myself.

That's a great price!

Artbox was selling those at their booth at last year's San Diego Comic Con. I had to wait until the last day of the show to actually get these because they kept on selling out.

Went to a different Target yesterday and tried my luck with blind grabbing 7 more packs, hoping I wouldn't get any duplicates. No luck. Everyone was one I already had and even managed to get two TIE fighter pilots. ::) With that said, I'm looking to trade for the ones I need.
HAVE:
Darth Vader secret reveal
Greedo
Scout Trooper
Nien Nunb
IG-88
TIE Fighter Pilot x2
NEED:
Darth Vader regular
Stormtrooper
Tusken Raider
Jawa
C-3PO
Yoda
Chewbacca
Shoot me an PM if interested.

Get this, my niece works at Target.
I told her to pick a few of these up if she came across them,
She saw them on display, picked 2 randomly and one of them was Boushh, the only one I didn't have out of the set.
Crazy.

These things disappeared from my Target either last night or this morning. Was replaced by some new sports stuff.

Does anyone have a Gree they would trade for something other than magnets?
