Title: Strange Magic
Post by: Phrubruh on November 25, 2014, 12:24 AM
The trailer for the new Lucasfilm Strange Magic is in line. It looks a lot like Epic. Hopefully it has a decent story. Unfortunately it says it is from the mind of George Luca .

Interesting. The visuals look great, at least. Although the leaden use of pop music isn't doing it any favors. Yeesh.

Totally cringe-worthy - just that alone will be enough for parents to not even go near this and steer their kids away from it...

Yeah, at first I hoped it was just overlay for the trailer, but nope, the characters are clearly singing. Repeatedly. :-X

So I guess this is another cg movie made by ILM just like Rango.

"In ninth place [on Friday], Strange Magic flopped with an estimated $1.3 million. It's on track to earn less than $5 million for the three-day weekend, which will qualify as one of the worst debuts ever for a movie playing at over 3,000 locations." Another home run for Lucasfilm!

"George Lucas' Strange Magic opened to an estimated $5.53 million this weekend, which is one of the worst debuts ever for a movie playing at over 3,000 locations. It's essentially in the same range as past animated bombs like Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs Evil, Valiant, Everyone's Hero and Happily N'Ever After.

Strange Magic's audience was 56 percent female and 38 percent under the age of 13. It's unlikely that Disney is able to keep these screens after the second week, which means the movie is almost guaranteed to finish below $15 million." (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=4009&p=.htm)

And Lucas wonders why they didn't use his ideas for TFA...

Well, Disney did kind of bury that one like they did with John Carter. This is pretty typical when there is a change of management.

I still do want to see it eventually for the visuals. Maybe switching the sound off is the way to go.

The commercials looked top-notch on TV.  Way more detail than what you normally see for CG toons.

Wow, that's a hell of a bomb.

How does it compare with "Howard the Duck"?
