Is that in addition to the one-per-wave concept figures or is that a two-pack version of ones we're already getting single carded?
-
COOL! this should be beautiful, very nice.
-
Two-packs galore next year! Worth the price. R2 looks quite complicated & if they do this right there's no excuse for an Endor-shot R2.
-
Something like this, I guess?
http://www.df.lth.se/~ola/Starwars/StarWars/starwars6.html
Sounds pretty rad, although it's far enough down my priority list that I probably won't pick it up.
-
I'm glad these 2 are in a 2-pack as I hoped in another concept figure thread. That means maybe we'll get a Lando or Yoda concept one.
-
SW.com (http://starwars.com/community/event/celebration/news20070309.html) posted yesterday that there is a soon-to-be-announced exclusive figure that will be available at CIV.
Any guess as to what it might be?
With all the recent USPS hype (stamps & mailboxes) for R2, my guess is that is will be an R2-D2 of some sort.
-
I don't know how they could make R2 exciting enough to be an exclusive. There isn't much they can do with him.
-
George Lucas sitting in a lush chair with money bags beside him and reading a list of how he's going to re-release the two trilogies, each release with something new added. ;)
Oh, you probably meant a serious response...
-
Whatever it is, it can't be any lamer than last year's exclusive.

The talking Vader one? I didn't mind that so much.

I'm certain of 2 things.
1. I'll be passing on whatever this much heralded sure-to-be overpriced exclusive is, as always.
2. I sure as hell won't be putting any important mail in the R2 mailboxes, there's a high risk of those finding their way into the back of a pick up truck under cover of darkness.
-

heh, that's funny. mostly because it's true.
This exclusive could be cool, you never know. But my money's on it being a stormtrooper, a vader, a clone trooper, or R2 repack in a cool package.
-
since this is the 30 anniversary of the SW saga, I'd guess maybe a two pack of father and son - Vader and luke of some sort.

I can't say the thought didn't cross my mind. :P
-
I think a two-pack of Luke fixing R2 (Right before Leia's hologram is shown) would be cool.
-
Well isn't the SDCC exclusive going to be the McQuarrie 3P0 and R2? Wouldn't it be kind of overkill to have another R2 for C4?
-

Rainbow colored stormtroopers. Watch and see :-\
Exclusive? Luke is my guess. Maybe with whiney talking feature?
-
I can feel the positiveness flowing through this thread ::) I don't know we shall wait and see. It may be cool...or not...we shall find out soon. I just wish these companies would announce their exclusives and move on.
-
Well isn't the SDCC exclusive going to be the McQuarrie 3P0 and R2?
I hope not. I'd rather have them be released on a basic card, but you're probably right. Which means I'll have to ask on of our Minnesoh-ta guys that's going (if we have one going) to pick me one up. :-\
-
They'll be available through StarWarsShop.com... no worries.
-

Okay... Thanks
-
I thought the rumor on the McQuarrie R2/C-3PO were for CIV. This is the first I heard SDCC connected to them. Honestly, piss on Hasbro if they do those two to SDCC.
That's not even a Star Wars convetion. They make more sense at CIV. They can do some silver painted holograms for SDCC.
E...
-
I was thinking about just getting a one day pass for C4, so does this mean I'll have to get a two day pass being that it'll take one day of standing in line to get the exclusive? :P

Two? Don;t you mean one? ::)
-
Well if the exclusive is sold at the C4 store, and you pre-ordered your ticket already, you can book at time to hit the store.
I did mine this weekend.

Very cool. 8)
Waaaay better than the C-III Vader. Sign me up for 2 (carded and loose). :)
-
Very choice.
But why in the name of Noa Briqualon does it have to be exclusive for a convention I'm not going to? ****.
-
2 for me too...great set and they look great!
-
;D
-
Wow! Awesome! Sensational! Superb! How the **** am I gonna get my paws on that!!??!! :o :o :o :o
Well, for now I can admire Hasbro's work on it and just hope for the best... 8)
-
Hasbro better have these on the web!
These are awesome. I personally wanted these as basics though.
-
I noticed something very strange...
Notice on the Celebration IV cardback it says "McQuarrie original concept Luke Skywalker" ???
I guess they must have been originally considering having a different exclusive for each convention?
Also, the text in the article makes it sound like you will be able to buy both variants, the C-IV version and the C-E version, at both shows? Strange... ???
-
Very cool figures indeed. Some nice sculpting going on there too on 3PO. R2's cool too but that 3PO is one of the nicer concept figures so far I think.
Nice articulation on both figures too... 3po possibly super articulated? Man that's almost overkill on the figure but appreciated.
I'm with Scott's total. I'd like 2 sets. Nice figures though, very cool and if you like McQuarrie stuff, boy oh boy 2007 is your year. :o
-
As long as Hasbro makes these available online after the show, I'm cool. I'd love to pay good money for two sets. :)
-
well so much for finishing my album with all the coins :-\
-
Okay, one of you guys is going to have to pick me up a set, maybe two. *looks at Kevin*
These are super nice though. And like the McChewie, they'll fit in with any diorama or in any group of figures. I think we have ourselves the first ever totally awesome convention exclusive!
-
This is the first McQuarrie set i really like. FIgures it would be an exclusive. I hope they offer it online.
-
Yep, definitely gonna have to ask Matt to pick me up one... Sweetness!
-
Wasn't the C3 Vader available online? They wouldn't make a 100% new figure, and than not sell it elsewhere. They just couldn't affford to do that. Not only that, but C3 Vader is like 15-25 on Ebay.
These look really, really nice. However, I would have liked a shiney 3PO!
-
McQuarrie + Fritz Lang + Star Wars Figure = a combination between the following emoticons... :D / 8) / :-* / and ;D
Seriously, well played! Thanks for making me regret my decision to sit C4 out.

(Damn. I'ma need someone to pick me up a few... someone like Kevin, maybe?)
-
Wasn't the C3 Vader available online?
Yep, it was but not for long. Well not as long as the line Jeff & I stood in! :-X >:(
Stand in line for CIII Vader? Prepare to enrage (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=7293.0)
-
Yeah, I have not decided yet if I will go to C4. I want to but it's all about money and time off work, etc. Even if I make it there it's no guarantee I will get the figure. I don't want to wait in line 8 hours and they say "Sorry. Brian's Toys 800 employees bought them all up." LOL.
Kickass set though. Yes, it kills the C3 exclusive (although I like that to).
-

I'm good for two myself, some way or another.

Uggghhhh, do you have to remind us? I spent that entire first day of C3 on line for that Vader and the rest of the Celebration store. It's a day that I would prefer to forget.
-
When I heard about those insane lines, I said screw it, one figure isn't worth that much of my time. On the last day, Sunday, I figured I'd try my luck and see if they worked out the kinks in the system (and if they had any left in stock). 45 minutes later I had 4 in my hot little hands.
I'm definitely liking this year's exclusive and will aim to grab a couple.
-
Very cool, I'm really digging the concept figures this year. I'm hoping to get two sets as well, but I'll have to hold out hope that they are offered up online (and don't disappear instantly). I really hope it isn't impossible to get a hold of though, and that everyone is able to get one or two.
-
Nicely done figures. I'm glad these are the ones they're doing and hope it won't consume an entire day getting one.
-
Nice figure. Pretty much a given I think...
I am glad to have booked my store time. I think that will help things a little.
-
Ugh... of course. Anybody who's going want to help me out with this one? Pretty please?
-
I enetered the UPS contest to go to CIV, I doubt I'd win. If I do I'll be the luckiest mother-****** ever.
-
Yes you would.
This is too nice to be an exclusive. Hopefully I can order one via HTS or SWS.
I know none of you are nice enough to pick one up for me.
:P
-
I kind of agree. It is so cool that we are getting these figures, but they are almost too nice to be an exclusive. It would be a shame if anyone who wanted one of these would miss out because of the exclusive status. I mean, the droids themselves are interesting/cool looking enough to sell at mass retail no problem. I'll be hoping to get some help with these as well, or hopefully they will be available online. I'd actually like to get two of them, since I had hoped to keep a McQuarrie set carded this year, but if they are super limited, I'd be happy to get one at all.
-
Like always keep an eye on SWS.com and Hasbro.com for these. They will surely show up there !
-
I've been thinking about this. As others have said, Hasbro can't sell enough of them to be exclusives only. Here's what I think will happen...
In the fall , we will get each of these individually carded with numbered coins. So the benefit of getting them at C4 is just the special coin and package. And since that coin may not be numbered, we can all still get our full sets of "regular" coins.
-
I don't know... we saw what happened with the Leia's from SDCC and then the 501st Legion trooper ...
-
C3 had around 30,000 attendees... they probably project more for this year being the 30 Anniv. and all.
So they have to plan for a good portion of those attendees to buy 2 or more of the Exclusives. Couple that with the the exclusives they have to produce for the Celebration Europe and I forsee a fairly sizable total production run.
Picking these up at a reasonable (non-scalper inflated) price should be no problem from e-tailers like SWS.com or HasbroToyshop.
I'm not sweating it.
Yet. :P
-
I'm just slightly sweating, I even managed to get 2 Toy Fair Vaders, but the whole idea in principal has me miffed if these aren't available another way to collectors that CAN'T travel 2000+ miles. Before, the exclusives have been kit-bashed/repaints in nicer packaging, NOT brand new exclusive sculpts....I mean remeber the complaining people did/still do over the Exclusive Walmart repaints? and they are national, not 2000 miles away for half the country. Really previously the only "new" thing was Jorj's head. The C3 Vader had a nice Con specific Base with Con specific sounds, the Silver figures were special repainted exclusives unto themselves, the Mexican and German cons were repacks in nice con specific packaging. But these figures are not only part of a current set but a special McQuarrie subset, actually 2 subsets if you count the poor coin collectors.
When I think of a 30th Anniversary Con exclusive, obscure figures based on conceptual artwork created in 1974-5 does not spring to mind. I love the idea of concept figures, going back to ones people don't even realize are concept figures (like the Shadows of the Empire Imperial Guard...check the concept Royal Guards in the Art of Jedi book) When I went to C2, the first thing I bought was the limited Edition McQuarrie DVD tin set which actually included a signed Tin card featuring the droids (same picture as the cardback) I just think they did a big disservice to fans, die hard and the average Joe. The Average Fan/kid gets screwed because they are making it a less than memorable exclusive to most fans, it's nothing unique like Jorj or a talking Vader. If I'm a Joe Blow Star Wars fan that thought it'd be fun to get a memento for myself (if I wasn't a figure collector) or for my kids, what is more unique and fun? a Figure made to look like George Lucas in a star wars costume, A Darth Vader figure that talks, or a pair of figures that look like every other figure on the pegs, except you'd have to explain to people that they weren't in the movie but based on drawings. If I was an average fan or kid, I'd be disappointed. For the Die-hard fans in most of the world, they are making it part of the normal line subsets. An exclusive that will make it harder to get for fans that are fans of the conceptual stuff, new basic figures and the coin collectors.
Then the figures themselves, they are really more amalgams of concepts. Just look at the carded figure: the picture and figure of the Threepios are different, you can tell in the head and the 'waist area'. The R2, just looks like a hodgepodge of a few sketches. I'm not liking what looks like a 2-part head with that big separation in his dome. Compared to what we've seen before: Chewie, Fett, & Vader these don't look as good.
I'll pick them up, because I love conceptual stuff, McQuarrie's stuff is what got me into the design field, I just don't like how they were offered.
-D

I can't stand it... the year I go it's a repacked vader with a talking base, the year I can't it's 3 new figures. Argh.
-
Wow...I need 4 at least...
That is a great looking figure. We should have the 30th Anniversary every year!!
-
i hate hasbro. 3 great new figures. that i will never get.
-
Sooo, does that mean if you get 1 figure a day, you've get 1 of each or you gotta choose?? :-\
I need 1x R2/3-PO and a Luke now.
-
Love it...although I wonder what that means for the basic line? (I'll discuss that there!) I'll take two!
-
******* Hasbro... I'm lovin this guy, but I'm concerned as to how hard it's going to be for the average collector to track this and the bot set down without being at the convention or knowing somebody that can help out. Why couldn't this have been issued into a standard TAC wave with a Mc Concept fig?? I sure hope HTS will have extras.
-
Sweet. I'm booked for my 4.
Kevin
-
Anyone know the price on Luke and the R2/3P0?
-
No prices have been posted thus far, I'm sure in time we will find out.
-
Funny thing this exclusive, Luke for C4 & they split the McQuarrie Luke & Vader up. Can ya smell a McQuarrie Vader for SDCC. :-\
-
I can smell side by side artwork for Vader and Luke, on the cardbacks, for added display for the MOC collectors.
Kevin
-
So how hard is this Luke gonna be to get and is there a limit to how many you can buy?.
-
The Luke will be available at the Hasbro Toy Shop Booth (dealers room)? As for a limit, non posted thus far.
-
Oh man this could be serious trouble if there is no limit and dealers have first crack :'(.
-
If Hasbro does not announce general availability of both the Luke and 3PO/R2 figures soon they can simply kiss my $1,000+ per year collecting their lines goodbye.
These figures are pivotal to the collection of McQuarrie figures and I am going to be right pissed if they don't make these available (on single cards to match the other Concept figs and in reasonable quantities, no single day availability on a website that barely works and then is immediately sold out) to people who cannot attend C4.
I feel extremely misled by Hasbro with these... I had planned on having an AFA certified collection of the concept figs as well as loose ones to display. But these figs could easily top $80+ if they are not available elsewhere.
I absolutely abhor the Gentle Giant/Sideshow "unattainable product makes all our product seem more valuable and hotter" attitude. I am a collector and I like to be able to complete my collection. I have no desire to feel empowered by possessing action figures that are only valuable to me because others cannot have them. It's just sickening.
-
I can't stand it... the year I go it's a repacked vader with a talking base, the year I can't it's 3 new figures. Argh.
No kidding. Argh indeed.

McVader is already set for the 30AC basic line (in the Jabba's Palace wave, of all places).
So I'm not sure what you guys are smelling. :P
-
All I smell is ass surrounding some of the exclusive decisions we get out of RI.
-
I find it humorous that the best looking of the McQuarrie figures are the exclusive ones. I have not been impressed with any until these two popped up.
-

I totally understand what you're saying. It's like Hasbro figures the general public isn't going to know about these 2 new figures that continue with the spirit of the TAC line and most don't care about concept figures anyway (except the diehards from whom they can squeeze another large $ amount). It would have been better to have an exclusive figure that's not directly related to the current line... but that would make sense, wouldn't it?
-
All I smell is ass surrounding some of the exclusive decisions we get out of RI.
Jesse, you scare me sometimes. I was going to post exactly the same line before I went to sleep last night but just passed out before I could achieve that.
Scary :o
-
This figure really looks great, and I hope that I can get a hold of a couple of them. Like others have mentioned, I really hope that both of these (3PO/R2 and Luke) are available at HasbroToyShop or SWShop, and not in a "blink and you miss them" fashion. These are essential to the McQuarrie lineup, and I really hope they are available to everyone that can't make it to the show.
-
There's really not much else I can say that hasn't already been mentioned by other users.
A.) These figures kick ass
B.) They are too nice to be 'show only' exclusives
C.) The McQuarrie figures are turning out to be my favorites from the TAC line
I'm afraid this may be a ploy by LFL (or whoever profits the most from the CIV) to get people to go. I get the feeling that these will only be available at the show itself.
-
An awful lot of work put into these exclusives this time around. It's hard to image that these would only be available at the conevntion, Hasbro should well know the outcry's of foul that they would get based on past experience.
-
Sweet merciful crap, talk about exclusives overload - Two exclusive Hasbro offerings, three exclusive Sideshow offerings, five exclusive Gentle Giant offerings. It's just getting ridiculous now... ::)
I like Luke and everything, but I guess I'm just getting more and more annoyed about getting milked another $30-40 plus shipping for another pair of $7 convention figures. :-\
-
I think these McQuarrie's are the coolest ideas Hasbro has ever had. I want to collect them all.
AND I WILL...
These had better be available on SWS or HTS. Even if they arent, Im still gonna do everything in my power to get my paws on these.
-
The article says the coins are VENUE exclusive, so maybe the figure isn't. Better not be. Grr.
-
Now that I think of it, I have a theory (I hope it's true)...
Wasn't Hasbro's response when questioned about a Concept Luke (because of the obviously mistakenly put up Luke cardback when they released the 3PO info) that Luke would be a the standard Concept figure in Wave 5?
Maybe these are both standard figures that will be released to retail and with normal cardbacks and coins in later waves? Maybe the exclusive truly is just that covention goers get them early and with a special card and coin back?
Because it's either that or Hasbro flat-out lied to cover up this exclusive. They obviously intended this to be available as a C4 exclusive from the start (judging by the picture being release with 3PO), so maybe they also have intended it for normal wave 4 as well..
That would be ideal in my opinion... then I could just completely ignore these and have them truly match the other released concept figs.
-
The article says the coins are VENUE exclusive, so maybe the figure isn't. Better not be. Grr.
Oops, looks like Spuffy beat me to it.
I don't understand why Hasbro doesn't just clear this up and explain what the real deal is.
-
Well... I still don't like em.... won't even get em even if I got them for free..... but hey.... who am I?
-
Damn >:( Now i need the Celebration Europe version as well becuase i want on eof those coins.
-
I don't understand why Hasbro doesn't just clear this up and explain what the real deal is.
Because if they are going to re-release these as basic figures later in the year, it's better kept a secret until after the convention so as to sell the convention supply for $12.00 a piece.
If we all knew they were coming out later no one would care about whether they get them here or not.
-
I just assume these 3 will be made available at retail. The reason being is I doubt they would the cost of all that tooling and not put them out for retail. Coins will be exclusives for certain. Just my opinion.
-
Let's not forget the Entertainment Earth Box Set of McQuarrie figures that will undoubtedly come out after we all try to chase down the "exclusives." Yup, I can see it now, a nice 6 pack with:
McQuarrie Stormie
McQuarrie Vader
McQuarrie Chewie
McQuarrie Luke
McQuarrie 3P0/R2
I smell this, in addition to the previously discussed distinct aroma of ass.
-
Its funny, I was just thinking about that yesterday too. "What if Hasbro decides to pack all of these into a 'Limited Edition McQuarrie Box Set' later on down the road?". Of course, they'll probably pack in one new/different figure so that we'll all want it ;).
-
I just assume these 3 will be made available at retail. The reason being is I doubt they would the cost of all that tooling and not put them out for retail. Coins will be exclusives for certain. Just my opinion.
After trying to bribe, beg, borrow or steal a way to get a set of these, this was the same conclusion I came to. It would be way out of character for the Exclusives to be new or one shots.
Every previous figure was a frankenstein/kit bash or a repaint (or horridly Red).
If the big H won't resculpt for the basic line due to $$, surely they won't sink that much into a limited release (and therefore limited revenue) figure.
That does not mean I'm not willing to pay for one of these, I just won't buy a half dozen at Ebay prices....just 3 of each.
-
That would be a relief for most of us if the "exclusive" part of the figure would be the coins and packaging and not the actual figure itself.
-
I think things are going to shake out favorably for the people who aren't able to attend the event. The Celebration III Darth Vader wound up online at Star Wars Shop on April 25, 2005. I'm not certain that it wound up online at any other point, but I think it's likely that the C-3PO with R2-D2 will show up on Star Wars Shop as well.
Hasbro mentioned in their article today that they will be selling the Luke at their Hasbro Toy Shop booth. The fact that they mentioned Hasbro Toy Shop specifically in that article infers that HTS online will be offering the Luke.
-
I don't understand why Hasbro doesn't just clear this up and explain what the real deal is.
Hmmm... if only there were some sort of bi-weekly Q&A with Hasbro that the fan sites could use to try to sort all this out. :D
The next batch of answers is due this Friday (4/13), and I'm sure somebody (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=2497699&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&vc=1) out there must have asked about the availability of the Droids and just how exclusive they will be. Luke was announced too late for this week, but there will probably be Luke questions/answers in the 4/27 batch.
-
So this makes me wonder, are we going to get McQuarrie versions of Han Solo, Luke (as a girl) and Lando (wearing Leia's dress)?
-
So this makes me wonder, are we going to get McQuarrie versions of Han Solo, Luke (as a girl) and Lando (wearing Leia's dress)?
I guess this is worth repeating for those who don't keep track like us OCD folks...
These are confirmed:
Concept Stormtrooper (wave 1)
Concept Boba Fett (wave 2)
Concept Chewbacca (wave 3)
Concept Darth Vader (wave 4)
Concept R2-D2 & C-3PO (StarWarsShop @ Celebration)
Concept Scuba Gear Luke (HasbroToyShop @ Celebration)
These are not officially confirmed yet, but highly likely based on the retail list that came out this winter:
Concept Luke Skywalker #2 (wave 5) *
Concept Snowtrooper (wave 6) *
Concept Han Solo (wave 7) *
Concept Rebel Trooper (wave 8 ) *
- Again, those last 4 are not officially confirmed, but everything in wave 3 and 4 on that list panned out so it looks really good at this point.
- There is some speculation that the wave 5 Luke is perhaps the Girl Luke since the Celebration Luke is Scuba Luke. There is also some speculation that the wave 5 Luke is instead a basic figure version of the Celebration Luke. No one knows at this point, but we should know within a few weeks I would guess.
- There has been no Concept Lando speculation/rumoring that I have seen.
-
I'd just like to go on record in case Hasbro is reading along - that I absolutely love these concept figures.
Fantastic Idea to make a whole line of it.
-
I really want to see Emperor Palpatine. Theres some very cool concept art featuring him.
-
I want Lando, Leia, Palpatine, Ben & Yoda concept figures. That way we have all the main characters.
-
At this point I am up for almost any Concept figure since they have done a great job on them (IMO). But I would really like a concept Yoda. There are some truly funky versions they could pick from.
-
I posted this on another local list earlier this week.
OK, after some reading and thinking, I'm pretty sure the Luke is exclusive in coin only.
1) McQ Luke has been listed in wave 5, not as McQ Luke 2 like if it was another design.
2) it's "while supplies last" not a limited punch ticket like the droids.
3) That otheR Site said based on their sources (which are usually pretty good) a few weeks ago that the Luke figure was not a con exclusive.
Also, I'm also betting that after Hasbro has stated many times in their Q&A's that they need to make a certain # of figures to make it cost effective they wouldn't make a limited run of 3 figures...I mean why would they create not 1 but 3 new sculpts and limited them only 2 cons? They say time and time again that limited runs are always kitbashed and or repaints because of the cost of the tooling process, and these are't figures with just 6 POA either, they have ball jointed knees, etc. So that means more detailed tooling and constuction costs to assemble. I'm betting (fairly positive) the Luke will be part of the regular line with a regular coin, and the Droids will be available through the Fan Club and/or Hasbro Toy Shop with a new coin (maybe even single carded, it would not shock me.)
Also, when was the last time an exclusive of any sort was an original sculpt? They've all been repaints, and\or kitbashed with minor new parts, etc for years.
-
The next batch of answers is due this Friday (4/13), and I'm sure somebody out there must have asked about the availability of the Droids and just how exclusive they will be.
Looks like this is the standard Hasbro answer for the sites that asked about the droids in this week's Q&A session... and Hasbro threw a bit about Luke in there too, which is nice.
There are no plans to make the droids available other than at Celebration IV, right now at least (the same goes for the Europe version). Gencon (the group organizing Celebration), not Hasbro, is the actual retailer for this product, so Gencon is setting the strategy for its own exclusive. However, the McQuarrie Luke is a HasbroToyShop.com exclusive, so we have more control over that. If we do make it available online through HasbroToyShop.com, it won't be for some months after the Convention unless there is leftover Convention inventory.
-
"right now, at least..."
We must all learn patience...
-
While I'm all for patience, damn I would be SO upset if those droids werent available elsewhere. And I really hope that Scuba Luke is available in higher quantities than this answer made it sound like there would be.
-
Yeah, they will re-release them at some point down the road. They will wait for quite an uproar about it from the community and then they will extend the olive branch and release them. I can not believe they would waste the money making toolings for 2-3 new figures and not maximize the return they could get via mass sales. If their griping and moaning about the expense it takes making figures is to be believed that is?
-
I agree...actually, I was trying to remember if there were any "new" 3 3/4 exclusives, and the only things that I could think of were the Max Rebo band sets way back in 1998 or so.
-
Oh boy will this suck. Come on UPS let ME win... ::)
-
I don't know why, but part of me just keeps suspecting that all the McQuarrie figures will eventually be rereleased in a box set (ala the Death Star Briefing or Republic Commando exclusive sets), possibly with some kind of McQuarrie art poster or mini-book (along the lines of the one released with the 2000 Episode I widescreen VHS detailing the Episode I concept art by Chiang, McCaig, and company). With the McQuarrie ST being the "hot" figure of the first wave (and likely Fett in wave 2), and the probable insanity surrounding the Con figures, a box set would be a good way to get all the figures out there at once without upsetting those people who paid money for the carded versions originally.
Of course, now that I've suggested it Hasbro won't even consider doing it. ::)
-
I was disappointed to hear that the droids combo won't be available outside C4 either, although like many have said we might end up seeing it sometime down the road though - and I could see that box set idea happening. I'm kind of surprised that they would sculpt all-new figures like that for a somewhat limited release. I'll just be hoping for help on these I guess, and we'll see beyond that. For the Luke, it kind of sounds like it might be available at HTS at some point, so that is good news. I hate the evasive answers from Hasbro on stuff like this though, because you know they know whether or not Luke will be available at HTS.com at this point - but they just won't come out and say it. Hopefully everyone who wants these figures will be able to get at least one of each.
-
I just reserved my place in line to pick these up. Another headache out of the way I hope.
-
We were able to get some new mega-sized images of the Concept 3PO... hoping for the others in the near future. ;)

Nice. And better articulated the the VOTC C-3PO.
-
I had heard some criticism of the deco since it's dull and not chromed. I actually think I prefer the dulled look since it more closely matches the artwork (by necessity of course). The sculpting is fantastic though on his face... Perfect. I may not like the lack of knee joints, little disappointed, but the final figure is superb... Kudos to Hasbro on the McFigures in general. Even Vader, who's lacking somewhat, is a nice figure.
-
I may not like the lack of knee joints
I hate it. Why? If they hadn't articulated the ankles, it would be soooo much better. What's the point of ankle articulation if there's no knee articulation? Hopefully 3PO isn't a bitch to stand like Bacarra and Bulq, the other two figures who have no knee articulation but strangely have ankle articulation.

Does anyone remember when the CIII exclusives went on sale at shop.starwars.com if Hyperspace members got the first crack a them or were they open for sale to any Joe Schmo?

I don't think hyperspace was around yet when Vader was offered. Supposedly the droids will not be offered at all though.
-
No, Hyperspace was around back then. I don't recall whether or not people needed a Hyperspace membership to buy the C3 Vader online, but there were certainly limits. I think they started at 4, then 2 and then 1 per person.
-
I'll second Nicks opinion, Hyperspace was already underway at the time. I was not a member and was able to order from the store when they went online. The Vaders went on sale after C-III was over, but I can't tell you the exact number of days after anymore.
Supposedly the droids will not be offered at all though.
I would expect to hear nothing else. But outside of dumping them all to Brian's Toys, what are they going to do if they have 1000 left over? I'll be watching the website pretty closely after C-IV. ;)
-

AFA graded no doubt. :P
I went back and looked at my order history at SWS.com and I ordered the CIII Vader on Apr. 25, the day after CIII ended (CIII ran April 21-24 2005) if that is any indicator.
-

Yeah, I agree. Last time, the timeline went like this...
April 21st - Celebration 3, Day 1
April 23nd - GenCon/LFL finally confirm that Vader (and some other C3 exclusive loot) will be available on-line after the show
April 25th - Vader shows up on SWShop.com
Obviously, I think (like others have said) that they probably aren't going to announce anything in hopes that some folks (like SoCal locals) panic and go to the show... but I still think they will show up on-line afterwards. ;)
-
... but I still think they will show up on-line afterwards. ;)
I really hope that is the case, Jeff. That would suck that they would do that to fans of the McQuarrie figures. If anything, Hasbro should just offer the figures on a regular card and coin, and the other as a strict exclusive so it can be worth money... otherwise, it's a poor decision on their part.

Not to derail this thread by talk of Transformers, but Hasbro is stickin it to the TF collectors (fans) by offering the final three Classic seekers + 2 other repaints only through Botcon and the set will only run you back $320 whereas it would only cost $60 were they a normal release. - I think you could consider this another poor decision on their part.
I'll be quiet now... :)
-
I'm still trying to figure out what I should do with my Wave 2, 3, 4, and Vintage case preorders at EE. I am completely 50/50 thinking I should just cancel them. The concept series was about 50% of the driving force behind my extreme interest in this year's collection... I would have bought probably half the figs otherwise.
But Hasbro giving all the collector's who can't make it to C4 the big finger has completely turned me off. I'm just worried that if I cancel them six months down the road Hasbro will come out of their cocaine high or whatever their problem is and actually allow people to purchase their product again (what a messed up idea, eh?). Then I will be really sorry I missed out on this line and will want to spend whatever it takes to get them.
I am so confused... all I want is to be allowed to purchase the best subline Hasbro has put out in years. After being a Star Wars figure collector since they came out in '77, I can't believe H has no interest in retaining my business. But I guess the time had to come where their greed (or stupidity?) would get the better of them.
I have NEVER been fed up anywhere near this point... I am usually one of the first ones to defend their decisions (such as repacks or endless Vaders) as being well founded business based decisions rather than collector based. I understand that not everything they do will turn out well for ME. But their decision to deprive both kids and collectors of these awesome figures for no good reason really feels like it may be their last, most important mistake.
Am I the only one who feels this way? I don't see the forums full of near as many complaints as I would expect. Are most people just not into this line or don't care that they may never get their hands on three of the most important figures in it?
-
Keep in mind at least one of them is likely to be available online, if not both... It's early to panic.
But add to that any past exclusives to cons have been relatively easy to find, save for Toy Fair vader perhaps. Even old Jorg Sacul has come down to what even I think of as reasonably priced.
-

But the TF Vader had an actual production number associated with it, something I can't recall for very many, if any other figures (senility, I think, there are probably others). It was at 10K for production but I'm guessing the Con exclusives are at least double that. I would guess they've probably ramped up production as well, relative to even C-III numbers and that exclusive, while not as nice as the McQ figures, has come down to about $20 or maybe even less on ebay.
I'm still guessing they'll actually release the figures more widely. The cardback will change as will the coin, but I'm guessing getting your full set won't be so hard in the end.
-

Well, here is what I was told at Celebration 3 when we asked about it...
500 Pallets = 10,000 cases = 120,000 Vaders (give or take a few).
So that was 120,000 C3 Vaders... and that does not count what they left behind to to sell on-line after the show.
Most of the numbers I heard being tossed around were between 145,000-160,000 for final production numbers.
-
Thanks Jeff. So a pretty substantial difference from the Toy Fair Vader situation really. I can't imagine that the good folks at Hasbro are going to short production relative to C-III, if anything they might push it up to fit with the general 30AC push, so 200K for production? That's just blatant speculation with nothing to back it up, but I can't get worried about these figures. (Actually I can't much get worried about anything Hasbro is producing these days, and not because of the cynicism I've had for them for a while. It's just a lesson learned over a period of time: so few figures are actually rare anymore that a little patience means saving a lot of money) I want them, badly, but I surely won't overpay for them or let them alter my collecting habits.
-
Well, here's what I'm thinking:
(1) I want a matched set. I don't care if it says anything about a con or whatever (in fact I'd rather it just completely match the others). My best case scenario would be that Hasbro releases them on regular cardbacks that perfectly match the others in the line. I was actually hoping to get these cased up and display them on card.
(2) I don't believe that previous con exclusives are indicative of the difficulty of getting or the value of these two. To speak bluntly, all previous exclusives were pretty much merely curiosities and nice souveniers for people who attended the show (which is what con exclusives SHOULD be, not punishments for everyone who can't afford to go). There hasn't been a single one I was remotely interested in. Compare this to what are three of the most key characters with completely new sculpts in the hottest subline of figures of the year. If Hasbro/GenCon sticks to their guns and the R2/3PO are not available outside of the con, I think these will skyrocket. Luke may be somewhat easier, but it still pisses me off greatly that I now have to worry about it, plus the fact that I will have to wait months after the con to relieve that worry or pay huge scalper prices. What if after that three months Hasbro then decides to only release a few more? Again, huge prices. How badly botched will the ordering process be on whatever website they choose to distribute them on? Will I have to sit by my computer for days trying to score one of these little plastic toys that should be commonplace?
I just think Hasbro's decision here STINKS to high heaven. I was peeved enough when they announced R2/3PO. Then we got hit with the double-whammy with Luke, who they even specifically claimed (apparently outright LIED) whould be available in the basic line. I don't think this benefits anyone but GenCon. Surely it hurts Hasbro more than it helps them given the huge numbers of customers they are disappointing.
-
I understand your frustration, but I just can't get worked up about it, sorry. Hasbro doesn't limit production on figures in the regular line at all. Why are McQuarrie figures currently so hot? Well, they're cool, that much is true. There's secondary market value (now) but that's because of the truly bizarre mentality of collectors that paying $40 for a $6 figure now makes more sense than waiting 3 months. I put that one under more money than brains, but it's only my opinion. Guys are stocking up on McQ stuff because it either has secondary selling value or is good for trade bait where you can generate multiple returns (which is the same thing, but more justifiable). Really though, how many figures hold their value down the road in the modern line? 5 of them? R2-B1, Amidala ascension gun, Sio Bibble. Maybe three?
But that's not the real point, the point is people are getting screwed by Hasbro over unique Con content. Ok, I understand. But do you honestly expect Hasbro to jump out in the weeks before the Con, which is a money generating event for everyone and say don't worry, we'll make these figures available to everyone easily at retail? Of course they're not and they won't because it would affect their sales, it would affect attendance (walk up) at C-IV (and I'm guessing even if they wanted to say something, there's probably a legal agreement with the folks running Celebration that prevents them from saying anything that might negatively affect attendance) and it would surely kill topics like this one where people are fired up and talking about Hasbro product like crazy. People are more excited about McQuarrie concept figures than they have been about anything Star Wars Hasbro for quite some time. People that were dropping Hasbro's 3.75" line are picking these up; they're sucking people back in. They're not about to kill that for anything, even pissing people off (anyone remember how angry people were about the UGH chase figures last year? Whoo, those are commanding a premium now aren't they?).
Yeah, the figures are unique and frustrating. But think about this: You are obviously not attending C-IV, otherwise you'd not be nearly so fired up. So you're not laying out X number of dollars for the Con entrance fees. That puts you ahead of the people there. I can't begin to explain how humourous I found it at C-III to watch the people that so clearly wanted in only so they could get a Vader to sell online. They spent hours in line after paying $40 for the day (or whatever) to miss most everything else for the chance to scalp a Vader. It's ****** up, to put it mildly. So consider the fees you're NOT paying to get into the Con and realize it's not unreasonable to pay more for the figure in the first place, because some of those silly ebay sellers will have paid parking, paid admission, given up 2-8 hours of their life to "turn a profit" on ebay on an $18 figure that you're going to pay $40 for. You're still ahead of them because realistically when you add in the $40 fee, they paid nearly $60 and their time for the damn thing anyway. You and me get to stay home, click a button on ebay in about 4 minutes of auction watching time and still have the figure.
I accept your point on past Con exclusives maybe not being relevant. But neither you nor I have a hot clue on what they'll do after (whether it's a day or two years down the road) with respect to these figures. There IS another McQuarrie Luke being released but maybe not the Droids in the immediate future. But remember this: outside of some variations of figures (freeze frame Weequay) there is exactly one figure, Toy Fair Vader, that commands a substantial premium over it's retail price. Even Sacul is under $30 at times, which is what? Double it's selling price at C-II? We also have no idea what the production numbers will be. If you think 150,000 figures is rare, then I can do nothing to ease your mind. I still have a couple of C-III Vaders sitting beside me here and no, the figure is not unique, but then again neither were any of the UGH figures. But it didn't stop people from getting excited and worked up. Yeah, I know, I'm missing the point as these are entirely new figures. Me, I'm waiting for the McQuarrie battle packs that all but inevitable ;)
But hey, I think Hasbro stinks to high heaven regardless of this latest insult to collectors psyche's. I'm just not feeding them anymore by getting fired up by it. I have friends that will try (but hopefully not so hard they don't enjoy themselves at Celebration) to help me out with this figure and I do hope I get them. But you know what? If they don't, I'm guessing I'll still have to get up in the morning and go to work the next day and the sun might even shine, even here in Canada.
I hope you find some help getting the figures at retail price (probably 3-4x the regular retail price anyway) or luck into an auction for a very reasonable BIN or get them online (I'd watch SWS.com the day after the Con, were I you ;)). I really do.
-
Something I keep thinking, in the back of my mind, is that these are all new too... C3 Vader, TF Vader, and for the most part Jorg Sacul... All repacks, very little retooling or "effort". Hasbro's made it pretty clear that to do new toolings they need investment, and investment requires guaranteed production numbers of a certain caliber. IE: you're not gonna invest in all-new figures exclusive to a con when you only plan on 10,000 of them being made... You're gonna make enough to profit, "con memories" be damned. TF Vader's rare because of the show he was at, the place of "con exclusives" at the time (had we had any?), and the fact it was an old figure on a cheap card... basically. Cheap to produce, no "risk" other than the costs to start up the machines and crank them out. Easy to make only 10k and justify it.
Now... There's probably $10k in a fraction of the molds for the C4 figures. I think Hasbro will have these in circulation somewhere at some point, or they're both being made in such huge quantities they'll be available during the show (or immediately after). I'm not in panic mode either on these... Stranger things have happened, but I have a hard time imagining Hasbro investing in 3 brand new (and rather complex) figures like this and not making a ton of them to offset costs.
-
Im very worried, I really want thesr, but I dont know how the hell I will if theyre as available as Hasbro has made it sound. :'(
-
Luke looks like the best of the McQuarries IMHO. :)
-
Chewbacca's still the best. Boba wouldve been a very very close second had they included the poncho, but nonetheless he is one of the coolest SW figs in YEARS.
-
Morgbug, thank you for your excellent response. I absolutely agree with almost everything you said. Almost all of it is, in fact, is in exact agreement with how I feel, just advocating a differant response. I, too, don't understand why someone would pay all the money and spend all the time to go to the con and then spend 90% of it waiting in lines for merchandise... it just doesn't seem to be what the con should be about. And maybe that type of thing is part of the reason my response to this issue is so strong.
It seems like Hasbro (and many of the other companies who have been doing this these stupid uber-exclusives for years) is starting to not care about making toys for people who like the product and Star Wars but rather attempting to do whatever they can to seem like the "hot" product, screwing over collectors and kids alike in their path without regard.
I have felt in the past that nearly everything they did was justifiable as a good business/fan/collector decision when looking at it from one viewpoint or another. But this just reeks of a short-term stunt that is bad for long term customer goodwill.
Another thing is that if these figures were some cool one-off thing I also wouldn't be anywhere near as upset about it. I would just figure they will probably be re-released at some point in a differant package, but so what. And if they aren't then at some point they will probably go low enough that I can afford them. But instead they are a vital portion of a set of figures that I have been looking forward to and have already started collecting, then had the rug ripped out from under me. So now that entire collection of concept figures feels nearly completely worthless without these so waiting until these MIGHT come down to a reasonable price is much less of an option. Waiting until they are re-released is a bad option because if it is not this year and in a single pack then the packaging will be totally differant which basically destroys much of the appeal of the sub-line in my opinion. So it is just frustrating from every angle.
I really wish I could adopt the Buddha-like attitude towards these that you advocate... I know I would be a happier person.
But instead I still find myself really leaning towards just canceling all my orders for the other figs and for the most part getting out. I would keep the orders for the vintage figs (I love this line too, although I must say many of the figures themselves look a bit less exciting this time, with Han's "special" hat and Luke's strange head, and a complete disinterest in the Leia). And I would have to order a CZ4 and Animated Boba from eBay (as I KNOW I will never see one in a store). But most of the rest I could probably do without if I wasn't trying to collect "all of them". So I could cut my expenses by 90% or so, and feel better that I wasn't supporting what I view to be vile decisions by Hasbro anywhere near as much. And I wouldn't have to support the scalpers on eBay (though in the case of R2/3PO they may deserve the extra money they will get).
Unfortunately Hasbro would still get my money for their new GI Joe line, and will likely turn that into the same thing if it is as popular as it looks like it will be. But at least right now those are pretty easy to order and achieve a full set, until Hasbro starts making poor decisions.

I admire the passion demonstrated on both sides of this issue. I'm pretty ambivalent about it all myself. I'm getting 2 of each only because some friends are going and have promised to hook me up. I know between the number of people from my Fan Force who are going, I'll get them one way or another. That could be why I'm not getting worked up. They're cool figs and I'd want to get them one way or the other. Sadly, money constraints and a new child on the way have conspired to keep me home tending the homefires.
I compare the con exclusive figs to fast food promos. You can (typically) only get them by either going to that place or knowing someone who goes there. For example, I was in college when the Special Editions came out and Taco Bell had the toys. My college town was small and there was no Taco Bell so I had to either drive 35 miles to the nearest Taco Bell or have family and friends here in town hook me up much the way my friends who are going to C4 are. Bottom line: I wanted them enough that I found a way to get them.
For some reason I really can't get pissed about exclusives save for the the fact I can't go myself to get them.

The problem with the comparison, of course, is that the Taco Bell toys were (a) in nowhere near as high demand and (b) not an important part of a much larger collection.
I'm pretty sure if Taco Bell had a bunch of toys right now I could get them for a reasonable price on eBay, as there wouldn't be hundreds of thousands (?) of fans eager to complete their collections. And frankly, if R2/3PO/Luke were not part of a larger collection I would likely just say "oh well, I'll skip them". But instead they are a hugely important part of a series of 12 figures that I had already been salivating over and preordered for many months with no indication that three of them were to be purposefully withheld from me unless I pay a massive "ransom" to attend a hugely expensive and time consuming convention.
I sure wish I had friends who were going to C4 and could pick them up for me... I hope you all realize how lucky you are. I will most likely be forced to pay $120 for them on eBay (seems to be the going rate for two of each) IF I decide not to just give Hasbro the finger and stop with the Star Wars collecting over this. The problem with that is that having seen wave 5 they are desperately calling me (esp Yoda and 3PO)...
Ahhh, I miss the old, fair, Hasbro. I really just cannot quite describe the loathing I have felt for them over the last two months.
Sorry to keep bringing this up again, but I do try to at least keep it in the related threads. :)
-
Granted, my example is a radical over-simplification, but the principle remains the same. Only selected places are going to have a specific item. I guess what it comes down to is the fact that I don't get being so upset as to drop the hobby. I'm not trying to be snide or poke fun. I honestly don't get it. There have been plenty of exclusives I've missed out on due to either short ordering, scalpers or lack of a local store. FAO is a prime example. They had the Faamba which I wanted nearly as much as I wanted the AT-AT when I was a kid, but price point and the fact that the nearest FAO at the time was at least a 6 hour drive from me. The Wal-Mart snowspeeder is another example. It was gone almost before it hit the shelves. I never did see one in the store. Saw plenty in a local comic shop for twice the shelf price though. Hell, when I worked @ TRU 1 year (which felt like a century. a year in hell I'll never get back, but that's another story), I nearly missed the chrome Artoo.
I'm just trying to be an optimist. Yeah it sucks that the figs are exclusive, but they will turn up. Either on Ebay, trade or online. My money is on them being available thru both SWS and HTS. If you're patient, the secondary market prices will drop dramatically to something that resembles an affordable one. There'll be enough people who horde them for the purpose of scalping them and they'll end up flooding the market with them. Seems to happen with just about every other exclusive.
-
I can certainly see why people would not understand why I might consider just dropping Star Wars... it's not JUST the exclusives thing.
It's the large amount of money I'm spending in general... and the competition of the new GI Joes and Doctor Who toys.
It's the inconsistent articulation (oh how I hate swivel elbows). I really wish Hasbro would concentrate on creating many fewer, high quality figures that are at the top of their game.
It's the incredibly poor distribution model they follow (I still haven't seen anything other than 30AC Obi and R2, and have very little hope of seeing a Concept figure on an actual retail shelf). Anything I really want I need to preorder months and months ahead of time and pay extra for the privilege. Packing Concept figures at one per case is silly, and I'm not sure I buy the excuses anymore. And I can see the coming issues with the Legends assortments... all the ones I want (Ep II clones, Boba Fett, TC-14) are packed one per case while many of the figures that are going to sit are in at two per. Ep II officers are going to be nearly impossible if you want a set of all four.
It's the constant upgrade cycle (this year's Luke is slightly better than last year's Luke which was slightly better than the last year's Luke...).
But nearly all of the above issues I have with the line are excusable in many ways... I understand this is a line that needs to sell to both collectors and kids, and certain compromises have to be made to make that happen. I may not always agree that Hasbro has made the best choice but it always seemed like they were trying.
But the exclusives are completely differant. This is the one area where I feel Hasbro has just crossed the line from making a few poor choices to actively screwing over the consumer. These are no good for anyone except those who are going to the con to obtain scalping material. I really feel that Hasbro has completely stabbed in the back all the people who were collecting this line that can't attend C4. And I feel they seem to have no idea that this is the case. They refuse to acknowledge that this was a poor decision (even in a wink wink, yeah don't worry won't happen again kind of way). And if this line is going to turn into a Gentle Giant "let's see just how rare we can make each item" thing I want to jump now before I spend thousands more this year, overpaying for exclusives, only to find that I'm completely disgusted by Hasbro next year.
I already find myself just thinking "what a bunch of jerks" whenever I see all the cool stuff coming down the line (like wave 5). Every time I have a positive thought about Hasbro it's now countered by my disgust in what they are pulling with these figures. I keep waiting a bit longer and hoping that the feeling will lessen or go away... maybe it has a bit, but it's still pretty darn strong.
-
Oh and Hasbro has already told us that we're screwed on the 3PO/R2 unless the con people want to release it again (they don't own the rights to the figures or some such nonsense).
And they "might" make the Luke available online a few months after the con. So if I wait and wait and wait at the end Hasbro may reward me by finally allowing me to purchase a Luke (if their site actually works and they put them up in enough numbers that I can actually get to it before the hordes buy them out). I wouldn't mind the waiting so much if I was sure to get them, but there's no way to even know if there is a reasonable possibility of that.
-
I see your point. I agree on the articulation. Not a fan of the swivel elbows myself, but I tend to let it go if the overall figure is a good one. But things like the decision to use the Commtech trooper body for the GL in trooper armor still has me baffled. That and the Ambush at Ilum set. Why use the inferior Bartoo sculpt when the new one is light years better?
I suppose my position is that I'm ever the optimist, sometimes to a fault "If I didn't get it this time, I'm sure it'll turn up again." In that regard I've been very lucky. I've managed to get waves 1 & 2 of the TAC. But even as optimistic as I am about getting the McLuke & McDroids, it's still not a done deal. I told my friends to hook me up if it's possible. I was sure to reinfore the notion that they're out there to have a good time and not shop for me & the other 2 or 3 poople in our group who have requested stuff too. I gave them the money for the goods and Force willing, they'll be able to come thru.

Poddie, do you not have any friends attending the convention?
I've read alot of negativity from you here on these boards but I missed where you specifically asked someone for help. Did I miss it? Did you ask anyone???
Keep in mind while complaining....
1. it's too early to freak
2. Those folks that are 'so fortunate' (and other comments I read) to attend and get all the figs..blah,blah
--keep in mind they pay outrageous entry fees to attend and then still have to pay for a fig there!
Not to mention travel considerations ect. Keep THAT in mind if someone helps your poor, tiring soul
out here with an exclusive- especially when you don't have to pay an entry fee, travel ect to get it.
Just think how lucky you would be then.
Please consider those things before anymore further crying :P

Did we ever get prices on these damned things yet? If not, can anyone ascertain anything notable on this pic that Ryan snapped today?
EDIT: Whoops, that was just the SWS.com booth. Nevermind!
But do we have prices on the two McExclusives yet? I haven't been paying attention...
-
No, no price confirmed yet. I'm expecting $20 plus $4 for the star case. Inflation, y'know.

I want to say I saw a price for McLuke of $12.95 and possibly $14.95 for the McDroids. I've been looking around to try & find where I saw that, but no dice yet. I hope it's posted soon. I need to see if I have to PayPal additional funds to my friends who went to C4.
-
anotheR Site is reporting the luke will be 14.95 and the mcdroids will be 19.95
-
$15 and $20?
That is insane.
-
I hope the McDroids aren't that high. I really wish I could remember where I saw those prices. I want to say I saw them @ starwars.com, but I'll be damned if I can find them.
-
Oh crap, I should have just asked for 1 set of each instead of 2.

Nope, I have no friends attending C4. No I did not post a pestering message asking people I don't even know to pick up a toy for me. And I shouldn't HAVE to. The whole thing is bullsh*t.
Believe me, I completely understand that they are paying a lot of money to go to C4 and have the opportunity to again pay a lot of money for these exclusives. Again, that's kind of the point. It should not be a matter of paying $35+ each to a scalper or spending $2,000+ in travel, expenses, and time (and that's a low estimate if you count missed work). It's just the ultimate finger from Hasbro to the fans that can't afford/take the time to go. Well, ok... they could have done worse, but they would really have to try.
And I don't think that should be a justification for them... "I deserve to have an exclusive no one else can get because I have spent all this money". That just seems incredibly selfish to me. If the reason you love something so much is that you know that others can't have it then you need to reconsider how you live your life. Not pointing a finger at anyone in particular here, but I have seen some posts that follow this logic from time to time.
I am married and have a very demanding job. My wife likes Star Wars but frankly the idea of going to C4 for a vacation would not be her optimal vacation. She would do it... but again, she shouldn't have to.
And now TNI has a rumor that San Diego will have an Obi/Yoda Concept fig exclusive. Oh joy.
As I have stated before, I used to be relatively positive about Hasbro, trying to see their side of whatever they are doing and give them the benefit of the doubt. Balancing cost vs profit, kid vs collector, etc is always a compromise and they do the best they can. But I just don't see any way that this works out other than me and countless others getting screwed. I just hope they got one hell of a payday.
This wouldn't seem anywhere near as bad if I didn't feel like I had been setup like a pansy. "Hey look at all the cool concept figures we are going to release in 2007 for the 30th anniversary? Aren't they cool? Aren't you just dying to have them?? months pass... Hey, here's the first wave for preorder! Work towards completing your collection today! month pases... Hey, here's wave two! Look at Boba, ain't he cool??? months pass... why don't you go ahead and preorder wave 3... time passes... Oh BTW you don't have a chance in hell of completing this collection! We're not going to sell 2 of the figures to you because you're not one of the cool kids who can pay us a crap-load of money!" etc
-
Oh crap, I should have just asked for 1 set of each instead of 2.
I'll take your other sets if I don't get one,. ;)

$15 and $20?
That is insane.
What? You thought I was kidding? Nuh-uh.
C3 Vader was $15 plus $3 for the star case. I figured a price increase was definitely in order considering we're a few years down the line.
To be perfectly honest, I'm surprised the Luke is that cheap.
I'll await official word on pricing, but what Scum is reporting isn't out of line at all with what I was expecting.
-
CIII Vader was $12 plus $3 for the Star Case.
-
Plus the Star Case had the C3 logo stamped in it.
-
anotheR Site is reporting the luke will be 14.95 and the mcdroids will be 19.95
Let the ass rape begin!
-
CIII Vader was $12 plus $3 for the Star Case.
Hmm, are you certain? Maybe I'm thinking of the post-C3 price on the website. Either way, even if I'm wrong the McQ Luke is $1 more a few years later. They'll justify the droids as a two pack, so the price is "fair".
Just went back and checked, Rob's right $15 + $3, not $18, that was the total price. Still, I ain't surprised. :-X
-
Confirmed that the Droids are $20 even plus tax. Didn't catch the pice of the Luke.
-
Yikes. I guess I expected them to be in the $15 range, but just adding it up makes it worse. Maybe I should rethink the "2 of each" of the McQuarrie figures, if just these two (three figures/two packages) will cost me $70. Eek.
-
For those wanting this figure and weren't able to make it to C4 its on HTS for $15 right now.

Don't forget to use the promo code! FNFSPR7
You get 25% off and free shipping. :o
-
Sorry should of mentioned that it's the Luke figure. :-[
-
Well, that's 2 McQuarrie Lukes shipped to my doorstep for $24 total, which is $3 cheaper each than they were being sold at C4, with free shipping to boot.
Now for the droids...
-
Thanks guys.
My guess is the droids are going to go to SWS.com rather than hasbrotoyshop.com, in the same fashion as the C3 Vader did last year.
Loving that discount code. I used it last week and was able to use it again this week.
-
Thanks for the heads up. I ordered two of the Lukes as well, and with the promo code it doesn't sting too badly. Hopefully people didn't work too hard to pick up Lukes for everyone here since they are available online as well.
-
Well thanks for the code! I just ordered one; $11 and change- not bad at all! Let's hope the droids see an online appearance...
-
Hell yeah, about time I got to use that code. :)
Now to get my hands on some droids.
-
I can't speak for everyone but from what the early word is, the droids haven't been the harder figure to buy... It's been Luke. So, there may be plenty of droids coming home with folks from the convention... Just a word to the wise.
-

Well the Concept r2/c3po is $20 (if you bought the 4 day badge you get 4)
Hasbro is only limiting the Luke concept to 2 per person, but they are not punching a whole in your badge so I guess you can get back in line and buy more.
FYI, when you buy something at StarWars Shop, they give you a pack of free trading cards ( actually 4 cards)
And the guest bag comes with two more sets of trading cards.
They are also handing out a new figure "card" Friday was Vader and today was luke..and you also get the convention coin..
-
The Luke wasn't THAT limited early, at least not for everyone... The 2-figure-limit was imposed today I believe for the first time... Or that's the word I've heard anyway. WIth them going up online though I'm sure a lot of the holes at home got filled. Dunno if it's still available or not but if it hasn't sold out yet, I am not expecting a shortage on Luke either.
-
Well ... ass! The Hasbro site only lists the Luke figure as COMING SOON now, and if you try to click on the button it says the item is currently unavailable. I'll keep checking back and hopefully I'll be able to snag a couple. (grumble:grumble:grumble ... >:( The one day I don't check the collector sites #@%#$% ... grumble:grumble:grumble)
-
I'll be getting one 2day, if it works, and it probably wont.
-
McLuke's status has gone to the red out of stock status of death. A change from yesterday's coming soon.
-
I couldnt order this yesterday. Damn. So I ordered the Republic Commando set off EE instead. ;D
-
Ok I have one EXTRA CIV Luke..Same price as CIV + shipping costs. First come first SERVE! only Pal Pay users. and please if you have one or are getting one please let someone who hasn't got one yet to have this one.
Thank you, just IM me
-
More BAD news, I guess they were going to place the extra inventory at Hasbro.com ( I dont know if they sent some aside for the Hasbroshop or what) but I asked the lady working the Hasbo booth, and she told me they most likey would be soldout at the end of Monday.
-
Oh, this is some bull****!!!
"Two HasbroToyShop reps at C4 told me this afternoon that they were going to be suspending all online orders placed for the McQuarrie Luke figures, if the 25% off coupon code was used. According to them, this was an egregious error to have not blocked that coupon code for this item, as it shouldn't apply to convention exclusives. They said they would contact everyone via e-mail to let them know the McLukes would actually cost $14.99, like at C4, and to see if they wanted to keep their orders at that price (and presumably with regular shipping costs added back too). Sorry folks!"
-
I dont mind paying the full price, i just hope they honor the free shipping. They should give us soemthing for their mistake.
-
They're not going to do anything for us, evenflow. But what they are going to do is temporarily suspend our order and hold it hostage for another $12 - 15, while they waste resources emailing hundreds or thousands of people that already finalized their orders and got confirmation numbers.
They're really going to wait for each individual customer to respond to an email? I have trouble believing that. I'll believe it when I see it.
-
Yeah, I guess I wouldn't mind having to pay full price either, if we could still get the free shipping. I mean, its their mistake, not ours. Many/most times, if something is priced incorrectly at a retail store, they'll give you the price that is on it - since it is their mistake.
-

Yeah, but in this case you already paid, left the store, and were getting into your car in the parking lot when the store employee ran outside to catch you.
It just doesn't seem right.
-
Oh and by the way the coupon code is now expired incase you were going to use it on something else instead but opted to spend your money on Luke.
-
Could be worse, you could have missed out altogether.
But yeah, it's not good business to honor something and then take it away.
They should at least give you the option of cancelling your order - but who would want to do that?
-
Just an interesting side story here, there are already 225 McQuarrie Lukes and 125 McQuarrie droids on eBay so quickly after the convention. Who is scalping these toys? That's right, namely the collectors. With a few opportunistic scalpers who showed up to the show for that one purpose i'm sure. But mostly collectors.
But getting back to HTS's treachery about our Lukes...
No justice no peace!!
;D
-
So I take you peeps are back east? Well in two years its the west coast peeps that will screaming when they can not get their hands on the exclusives. I have 3 lukes and 2 C3PO I want to have two complete sets of the Mc'concepts. The third Luke I dont know what im going to do with that one yet.

As someone who went out of his way to secure help from attendees and paid an arm and a leg for these, there's a small part of me that is glad tons of people aren't getting them that easily and for 25% less with no tax either.
The rest of me thinks it was Hasbro's error and they need to suck up the monetary loss. Sorry guys.

East/West geography has really got nothing to do with this issue. This is a Hasbrotoyshop.com issue.
The issue is that we followed the rules of the coupon code, went to their site, paid for the merchandise and arranged the shipping, got the confirmation number - and now HTS.com is suspending our orders, days later, because they decided that they want to charge us more than we paid at the checkout counter.
Changing the rules and conditions after the fact (after the purchase) is going to get me riled up every time.
-
Changing the rules and conditions after the fact (after the purchase) is going to get me riled up every time.
Yeah, I can see them suspending Luke until the coupon expires today (like it appears they did), but to go backwards and change existing orders like they are allegedly doing is pretty crappy customer service. >:(
They're really going to wait for each individual customer to respond to an email? I have trouble believing that. I'll believe it when I see it.
It does seem like a lot of effort to go though... I guess for now I'll just hope it was a HasbroToyShop rep talking out of his ass until we get confirmation that orders are indeed being altered.
-
By law, I think they have to honor the coupon and swallow the loss. Does anyone have legal knoweledge on this?
How many people were able to order and agreed because of the coupon. You cannot sell something agree to pay then change the price after the order. We should as a whole really bitch to get this reversed if they do contact us. I bought other items bacause of the deal, they can go **** themselves if they try to change it after all the cash we spend.
Starwarsshop.com honored the $5 off on the Lucas set after they made an error. Hasbro is accountable not us. Do give out coupons if you cannot honor them. >:(
-
Has anyone received an email about this yet? It's only 11 AM Central right now, but I was curious.
-

I highly highly doubt this - I can't remember what it was but there was another incident where something seemed way too good to be true and we were later told that it was an error in the listing and that it couldn't be honored.

Weird... it sounds like they were able to buy the left-overs from GenCon and sell them online as long as they kept the price the same.
Regardless, that's a nice surprise for many folks I'm sure!

I have an extra Luke if you want it.
-
I thought about placing an order through Toy Rocket as well, but I wasn't sure what people were able to get at the show. I'll probably wait and see what everyone has done there, because I'd hate for anyone to go through a lot of work picking a set (or two) up for me and not have anywhere for it to go. At any rate, it is tempting to place an order, since they are actually at "normal" price.
-
I ordered 2 McLukes yesterday and 2 McDroids just now. And I didn't even have to WAIT IN A LINE!! Woohoo! I love the internet!
-
If they do not honor the price, I'll cancel my order and make a stink. I was already unsure about buying this sub-line anyway, so this might be enough to make up my mind once and for all.
-
Has anyone received an email about this yet? It's only 11 AM Central right now, but I was curious.
Not yet. The person who reads my reply, if I do get one, probably won't forget it anytime soon.

it is extremely cheap of Hasbro to rescind the offer, after orders have been placed. They should incur the loss because they made the mistake. Or at the very least, offer free shipping. <hits with giant newspaper> Bad Hasbro.

I just checked the order status of the Lukes at HTS, and on my account it says they are on "backorder". Who knows what that will mean for these.

Same for me, they say MCLuke ships 6/11 I am awaiting the news.....I will cancel if they back out.

I just got the same e-mail. That's disappointing - although not surprising. Heck, I would have been happy if they would have just kept the free shipping for what was their error.

Sure looks like the same e-mail to me... guess they didn't want to get hundreds of angry replies. :P
Ah, I sent them back an angry reply anyway - guess we will see if it really is for outbound message only. ;)
-
I also received the message.
Jeff, what did you say to them?
-
**** them! I am really going to bitch and cancel them! I spend thousands literally on Hasbro Star Wars figures and they are going to be cheap because their IT ****** up. Total BS!
WHEN I ORDERED I DID NOT SEE THAT DISCLAIMER. The web guy probaly added it after the fact once they caught the error so his ass would not get canned.
We should stand together and bitch cancel to get this turned around, dont give in to the darkside and have your wills broken! Who is with me?
-
I'm kind of on the fence with this thing. On one hand, if the exclusion is on the site in plain view then it's the customer's fault for not looking/reading. On the other hand though if there is an exclusion of any kind whatsoever, it should be item description page well before you get to the check out. In the interest of good customer relations for an already dicey situation, I think they should stick to the code (so to speak). What portion of the page was the exclusion on? I didn't see one when I ordered the figure stands. I used the code for those & haven't gotten any emails saying it wouldn't be honored.
-
I think they're trying to appease to the C4 attendees. Quite frankly, I think the least we can do is let this one slide - how do you think the C4 attendess feel?
They travel all the way to the show, wait in line for hours on end to pay $15 for a figure that we all got shipped to our cozy homes for $11.25...shipped free of charge?
Everyone makes mistakes - be grateful that you got one for the 'going' price. Whoever's in charge of IT probably feels ****** enough already.
-
All the whining(huge posts from 1 person hogging too many threads) that has been relatively extinguished
since Hasbro's offering these toys on line LIKE MEMBERS TOLD THE WHINER they would has now been replaced by this recent discount gaffe.
Now, many folks seem upset about this-a legitimate gripe at that.
:)

-
Hasbro is the one who should let this slide, they made the mistake they should take responsibility. People today never do that - take responsibility. The notion of its not fair to C4 attendees, I have to disagree with due respect. They got to go to the show, not all of us can afford to fly, stay at a hotel and all the expenses with going. And so what, we caught a break with leftovers and orders went through WITH coupon. Its very tacky and very cheap to slap us in the face like this.
Hasbro is making big bucks from us they can give us something back. and if the C4 attendees cry about it we can tell them to get their panties out of a bunch and ease up. Life is not always fair but when we clicked the commit order button thats a deal they should honor it! They are breaking the deal.

How does a c4 attendee feel? What, I should say burn in hell and pay the full price to folks possibly wanting a discount? ...because I had to pay entry fees? Honestly?
Actually, I have my figures in hand and no longer care about further gaffes by Hasgro on these. If folks can get it cheaper, great-good for them-anytime to take advantage do it!-but I really don't care either way. My ticket to my first ever Celebration was for the experience of it, actually. Getting toys there was a side story-I'm glad I went too because I had a great time with my little brother and son.
At least I never waitied in a line more than 30 minutes and only 2 lines at that- the rest of the time I enjoyed the celebration!

Well I've lodged my complaint with them. I don't really think it will do anything, but I'd just like for somebody to look over my concerns with the way they handled this. Money is tight for me and I can use every dollar I can. I understand that some attendess would be a little peeved about this going online for a discount during the show, but I'm terribly sorry that I didn't have an extra grand on me to attend the convention...

They are breaking altering the deal.

You said it, who cares if you paid more or less! In the words of the broke burned out Hammer: Our gripe is too legit to quit! :D

Life is not always fair..
Hey, you said it, not me!
All kidding aside, we're going to get a hundred different takes on this so it really doesn't matter what I say - it's just how I feel.
I know if I had attended C4 and came home only to find out that I could have bought them online for $3.75 cheaper with free shipping I would have felt jipped.
Not because I traveled just to get the figure, but because of the time waiting in line - (everyone's time is worth something) and money I could have saved by not buying the C4 EXCLUSIVE figure at the C4 SHOW.
-
Dude, all good! And I knew that line would be turned back at me so kudos to you for being the first. (My line was meant with respect towards your opinion) ;)
It will be a yin yang outlook for all on this subject but from a legal standpoint this one is sticky because I know for a fact a store has to honor a price if it is advertised and accepted. They accepted. Bottom line
-
I think the fairest thing in this instance might be a compromise on Hasbro's part. Honor the free shipping at least.

Well....My emailed reply did go through as seen below (dirty liars >:() so I suggest anyone who ordered who gives a rat's ass about the principle and a few bucks to voice their concern. One of our MN locals tried to call and they gave him the runaround and couldn't even tell him what the price is going to be...hmm

From Hasbro: dated 5/17/07
1. Shop on www.HasbroToyShop.com and add items to your cart.
2. Enter promo code: FNFSPR7 in the grey box on the payment/shipping page.
3. Click the "Adjust My Price" button to show your savings and then click "Continue" to complete the check out.
25% off and free standard shipping is only valid at the web site toward currently availabe product. Some exclusions apply (such as Star Wars Celebration IV action figures). Discount is pre-tax. Offer expires 5/28/07 at 11:59pm (et). Cannot be combined with other coupons or offers. May not be used to purchase gift cards.
The inability for the IT dept at HTS.com to deactivate the Promo Code option for this/these items, shouldn't be retroactively enforced.
This I see as their fault. If the code works and doesn't apply then it shouldn't have worked for us. It's as if I were to buy anything from say Wal-Mart.com or any other place and then they find out they made a mistake with pricing or promosion they have to eat it. That is good costomer service. Same should apply here as they were not doing their job.
To tell you the truth this is wrong to make the customer pay for this mistake they made. If they don't fix this right with me they can stick they products were the sun don't shine. I don't think I would by another Hasbro product as long as I live. I guess I have been looking for an out from this stuff for a while and they are giving it to me. Hasbro makes so much from all this that they could stick this out if they really cared, but again they could careless about the little guy that keeps them in business. I guess it goes back to all they care about is $$$ and how many can they screw to get it, which is funny for a toy company to do as how many parents want that value stowed upon their kids? I know I don't. I was raised with values were your word is you bond and states the person you are. If you make a mistake you own up to it and you never make someone else pay for your mistake as Hasbro is doing to us. It isn't like they will not get the money some other way. I'm not complaining that I have to pay what everyone else paid at C4. I'm complaining because it's about PRINCIPLE, and their mistake not ours.

I think that Hasbro should honor this just for the sheer amount of press and coverage that Fan sites do for them. I wouldn't even know about some of this product if it weren't for sites like JD.
By the way, way back in this post I (and others) predicted that eventually these would be available for everyone. We were right. It was just a lot sooner than I imagined. Another example is this is the Crimson Empire set now being put in the regular line.
-
Well, I got the email too and I'm sure as **** gonna cancel my order tomorrow. This reminds me of a job I had over a decade ago, I was a car audio salesman, and we would get a certain amount of commission on each product as decided by management. So naturally we would try to sell the product that we knew had the highest commission dollar amount for us. Well, someone in management accidentally (though we didn't KNOW FOR SURE it was a mistake) set a commission dollar amount much higher than normal for a particular radio (reasonably, though, not ridiculous: like a $20 commission for something that would normally be $5 or something). Well, needless to say, all of the salesmen concentrated on those and we each made a bit more commission than usual. When management saw what happened after payday, they held a meeting and told us the difference would be removed from our next paychecks! Did they make the person who mistakenly assigned the dollar amount pay for it? No, we had to.

I agree with Darth Slothus , I went there for the experince knowing that in two years it will most likey will be in the mid west or east coast. Its cool just being around other people that share a passion for Star Wars. I know this is very frustrating for those of you that could not attend, to to be honest I was a little ticked when I heard about the deal on Hasbro for the Luke. Here is why I paid $100 for my pass, the cost of gas (I live 40 miles east of LA) and the general headache of going to LA. Then I paid $15 bucks a shot for these + the $20 for the other exclusive ( you know the 3po and R2) So again, I'm sorry for you that can not get your hands on of these, but look at it from the side of the people attended.
-
Oh well.
Man, you'd think a company like Hasbro would be able to run a better online outfit.
-
For future exclusives, they should put a large banner stating the item isn't subject to discounts or coupons on the product description page. Then on the checkout page, they need to add a pop-up or something that takes the code out & informs the buyer, yet again, that the item isn't subject to discounts or coupons. They should at least eat the shipping and use this as a learning experiene.
-
Well, I'm going to keep my order anyhow because it's still an okay deal. It's just when they sold the Lukes to us originally it was a great deal. Great before, good now.
I just think they suck and I'll make sure I write them so they know it.

Yeah, I can see that.

I'm impressed that Toyrocket is offering the exclusive for retail. Very classy.
As a C4 attendee, I can't say I'm saddened to hear about the coupon code not being honored.

Here's my response from Hasbrotoyshop....oh well, I tried :-\
Dear Customer,
We appreciate you taking the time to share your point of view on the fact that the Friends and Family discount did not apply when ordering the Luke Skywalker figure which was sold at Celebration IV. This item was specifically excluded from the discount program in order to ensure fair and equitable treatment to the consumers who attended the show and paid the full price. Therefore, when weighing out the pros and cons of honoring this as a one time exception in order to retain your business, we feel that we must stand by our original decision to exclude this figure from the promotional offer
The excerpt below in from the "Friends and Family" promotional email that was sent to our Consumers:

As a non-C4 attendee, I can't say I'm saddened that I didn't have to spend a cent on travel, lodging, a day pass, or wait in line for God knows how long, when I could have had the thing shipped to my door for the same price you paid.

Friends and Family Discount? That's rich. With friends like this...
-
Well, I called and cancelled today. I was nice about it though :-*.
-
This line is hilarious:Offer may expire without notice due to error, fraud or other unforeseen circumstances.
They can make the offer go away whenever it benefits them, but as if you read in there it doesn't say anything about the can go back on this offer once used if it was their error. Only thing they have is this:Offer excludes Star Wars Celebration IV exclusive action figures. But again the offer worked when it shouldn't have and they waited over 4 days to notify me that they made a mistake. How long did they wait to contact you about this BS? I would have different views on this if they would have contacted me right away. Also I wonder if that was put in after all this. Does anyone have the original e-mail they sent stated all this from the "Friends and Family" promotional offer? Frankly they could have changed the offer without us even knowing as this was an offer that was e-mail and then posted on the site. It doesn't take much to change something to cover their ass on a site. Then they can jack you around all they want. This to was an after thought from Hasbro: This item was specifically excluded from the discount program in order to ensure fair and equitable treatment to the consumers who attended the show and paid the full price. Or the offer would have never worked in check out. Plus what about fair and equitable treatment for the one that got screwed on this, because of their mistake?

Ok i think Hasbro should have given us free shippingh for their mistake, but i dont see why everyone is so upset. It seems as if the disclaimer was there, we just didnt notice it. Normally i all for us getting stuff cheaper, but there is no reason why it should be less for those of us who did not go to celebration iv.

This isn't about getting the the item cheaper, as least with me. It is about Principle. For one the disclaimer was not posted anywhere in the item discription or posted during checkout. It should have been as well as them making the changes so the code would not work even it you tried. On top of all this they came back after 3-4 days and stated that there was a mistake (theirs), but you (the customer) have to stick it, just in their mumbo jumbo. Great and even good customer service would let this go, and correct the problem the next time. Any other website or store would not put this on the customer as Hasbro is with us. Someone had a good analogy of this with saying:
it's like buying some item and leaving the store and as you are getting in your car the store management stops you and said there is our mistake and you can not have that item for what you have paid.
Everything would be different with me at least, if they would have had everything the way it should have been with the disclaimer posted in item discription & checkout and the code locked out from checkout or at least they should have contacted the customers right away and not after 3-4 days. With the way they are handling this it's all about Principle now.
Maybe they are trying to save face with all the C4 attendees, but I would be more concerned in saving face with customer service as the % of customers that were at C4 are not even close to the % that didn't go. The numbers add up too with 1 bad experience is pass to 10 people which in turn those 10 tell 10 each and so forth. With the web the way it is, I bet you can find somewhere someone posted their unhappy experience with Hasbor about this.
The thing I can't understand is the C4 attendees complaining about the discount that others got on-line. As it was not our fault that we were able to get a better price do to a Hasbro mistake. You wouldn't hear the on-line group complaining if the roll was reversed, just my 2 cents.

I'm with Hasbro on this one, the discount was really a case of "too good to be true". It would be nice if they would knock off the shipping, but I don't blame them for reneging on the orders too much. As far as it goes, I'm just glad they offered the figure online (and quickly), period. $15 + shipping is way better than the $40 + shipping on eBay.
I'm still pissed about it being exclusive, costing twice what a normal fig does, their deceptiveness about when it might be placed online, etc, blah, blah, blah, but I can't fault them for charging the same price as the con. I also hope they will get many many more to satisfy the demand for those who missed it.
It's also nice to see that ToyRocket got enough of the R2/3PO that it seems everyone has a chance at it. But on the flip side it certainly seems like an accident... that they simply didn't sell as well as expected and so they dumped them.
-
Who knows, maybe selling to Toyrocket was the plan all along. That way Gen Con (or whoever was the retailer) was in a win/win situation. Toyrocket could either sell out fast and make off well, or have these for years, and still make a profit.
The best part of this is all of the auctions on ebay that are getting no action. I hope people who bought these just to resell them choke on them.
-
I'd say I agree with Roron Corob's notion on it... It's not about the "cheaper" aspect, but the principle of good business... This was bad business on Hasbro's part. I think it did put a sour taste in some collector's mouths on dealing with their online service... For me, it won't affect me ultimately I don't think. I didn't order a lot from them anyway unless I could get a deal or was forced to do so (IE: Exclusives). This is, from my perspective, bad business on Hasbro's part because it was ultimately THEIR mistake. They didn't have the failsafes in place to stop the code from working on this product.
I think the fair compromise ultimately would've been simply free shipping as you noted Evenflow. I think completely fair way of handling it though, would've been honoring their mistake by following through with the orders as they were.... But I'd have preferred the compromise over nothing.
-
I understand that this whole situation is ridiculous and frustating, but I reccomend that all those who ordered the figure, and if it's important for them to have the figure, to resume your order with the adjusted price. I say this because if you cancel your order there is no guarantee that they will be available if you finally decide to order them later.
Believe me I'm on your side (having gone to C-IV), HTS made a deal and they should stick with it. Obviously somebody over there screwed up and failed to disqualify the C-IV exclusive from their promo, and that person is in the doghouse. But, really, the company should honor their deal, just as SWS.com, dropped the price on the Lucas Family set after it many preorders were taken.
Hopefully HTS will come to their senses and honor your original deal, and credit your account accordingly, but if you really want the figure I wouldn't hold my breath. Lets face it HTS is not the most organized e-tailer. My account still lists an order as "unshipped" that I recieved months ago. My Kir Kanos comic packs came bent. My buddy ordered 10 DSTs, then was informed he could only order 2 at a time. He ended up completing 5 orders of 2, then the next day they cancelled ALL his orders. He called them and they said he couldn't order so many of the same figure, but they couldn't explain why all the orders were cancelled. Of course now they were out of stock.
Ideally the McLukes will be in stock long enough for the next big HTS promo, but there's no guarantee that they will (then again 501st SS anybody?). I know I've waited too long to order exclusives and had to pay heavily down the road to get what I wanted(at C-IV BTW).
-
I just got word from a fellow collecting bud who ordered these. He had to talk to two people and eventually got a supervisor. That supervisor said they would send him some $3 off coupons to be used in store only.
So before you hang up with them if you call, ask to at least get some coupons for your trouble. It's just as good as the next thing.
And it's not like we aren't going to shop for toys again...
Not a perfect solution, but you get your money back in some form at least.
-Sal
-
$3.75 per figure is the difference here right? Plus the free shipping per order.
How many thousands of orders/figures do you think were effected by this?
I'm wondering how much money it would have cost Hasbro to just eat the difference.
-
There had to be at least 400 of these to order. So with the $3.75 that's $1500 dollars they would have to swallow.
-

It's just too late to make good on the price that they sold them for originally. I might be an idiot for rationalizing things this way, but I'm not going to hang on the phone for 30 minutes to beg for a $3 coupon.
They didn't piss me off bad enough to stop buying their products, so...they win.
Congrats to Hasbro.

Congrats to Hasbro.
Did they piss you off enough to not order from HasbroToyShop ever again? I think there's a bit of difference here than oppose to never buying again from retail or another online shop. At the end of the day if you stopped buying all Hasbro products you've not hurt them as much as you've hurt their retail partners. Those partners have already bought their stock and are looking to recoup their costs and make a profit by selling to you. Hasbro doesn't mind since they already made their money on the products in this case. But if you stopped buying from HTS, then you're effecting Hasbro directly as they are losing out on more additional profit which while isn't reflected on the SW brand's ledger at year's end, is reflected on the overall corporation.
Seeing how HTS has treated their customer base during this situation (I do believe this isn't even the first instance of bad customer service effecting a large group), I'm hesitant to shop at HTS in the future and I didn't even order a Luke (I had my own **** up with the Display stands). So in essence what Roron mentioned about this experience passing onto others not involved has occurred and influenced my shopping options in the future. I bet I'm not the only one either...
-
I'm not sure why, but this has really, REALLY angered me.
It isn't the money. It's how they responded to the situation.
It has soured me on Star Wars Collecting.
I was at Target and saw the new Vintage figures. I have wanted the Snowtrooper for a long time. I just got mad and walked away.
I called Hasbro Toy Shop and Hasbro. Both said "Too Bad". This is just bad business and they are destroying their goodwill. Many won't care. Many will remember. And some will be driven away.
I am done with Star Wars collecting. I canceled my order. I have taken down all of my figures and stuffed them in a box in the basement.
I am actually wondering why I ever bothered with it (likely because they were my favorite toys growing up).
I will not purchase anything from Hasbrotoyshop.com ever again. I will not buy and Star Wars branded merchandise ever again. It will be a cold day in hell before I ever buy any Hasbro branded product ever again.
Hasbro, if you are reading this, then remember that sometimes it's better to take a small financial hit in order to have a good PR image. Sometimes, a bad PR incident can haunt you for a long time.

I got one of those coupons once when I call to complain that the peg on the Saga Sandtrooper that I bought was broken upon opening. They informed me that they didn't have the spare part, but would send me a coupon. I was satisfied with that result. Not really the same deal though.
-

I honestly don't think they care. I wrote a nasty email to them and it was reflected. I'm not going to cancel my order with them as I'm sure I'll never see this Luke again be it online or anywhere else for that matter. Might as well just suck up your pride and stick with your original order.
-
I agree, Mike. We (used in loose general terms) can piss and moan and threaten to leave, but we're (still used in loose general terms) just a few in a legion of thousands. A few people that leave aren't gonna be missed by Hasbro.
-
Putting things in some measure of perspective, this could be much worse. Anyone remember 2002 and the C2 exclusive Jorg Sacul? No online availability whatsoever. That is, unless you wanted to score it on eBay for $70+ at the time.
Obviously that doesn't correct Hasbro's mistake. They screwed up. But they are making the effort to get these show exclusives into the hands of collectors. While I see that there's principle at work here, it also seems like people are quibbling over a few bucks. And until people who didn't attend the show have to shell out at least another $45 (the cost of a 1 day pass at C4) for the C4 exclusive Luke, don't complain about the money.
-

They don't care.
That's kindof the whole point.
Why should I spend Hundredsof dollars with this company year after year if they refuse to treat us with respect.
When I told them that I would not buy their product ever again, I was told "OK. Thank you for calling."
They don't give a rip. Not unless they see it in their bottom line.
Will my departure be seen in their bottom line. Nope.
But, I am happy with my decision to say "Screw it, I'm done".

I just wanted to give you guys another perspective. If you frequent Fatwallet or Slickdeals, then you become no stranger to price/coupon mistakes. In reality, HTS response is fairly decent in giving you an option to cancel if you don't want. To give you an example of a BAD response. . . a few years ago there was a Staples online coupon that was posted on all the major deal sites. After using it and receiving the merchandise, Staples charged us full price with NO NOTICE. I complained to my credit card company and faxed in my order showing that I paid the proper amount. Staples responsed by accusing me of using a fake coupon (even though their system accepted it) from a website I had never even heard of. They left a negative mark on my credit and my credit card company sided with them, so I dropped that credit card. So in reality, I believe HTS's response is really just the run of the mill you would expect from a price/coupon mistake. Only very few times a year do retailers live up to online price mistakes.
-
I have to be honest in that if the figure was an exclusive film character available nowhere else, I would've stuck with the order. These concept figures are neat but in no way do I feel I must have them, so it was easy to cancel my order. Still, they know the crap they pulled if only by the number of emails and/or cancellations.
By the way, Hasbro happens to be the licensee of my favorite film trilogy, so I don't feel like I buy Hasbro product, I'm buying SW stuff that Hasbro happens to produce. I can't give up my favorite hobby because of a few dumb decisions by the toy producer.
-
One thing that might get their attention and maybe ellicit a real response is a submission (a well worded, intelligent, level-headed, yet stern submisson) to the Q & A session once those resume. Can't hurt. If they're like most companies, the left hand often doesn't know what he right hand is doing. Maybe by getting the word to the folks who actually answer those questions a positive resolution could be reached.
-
There had to be at least 400 of these to order. So with the $3.75 that's $1500 dollars they would have to swallow.
Plus the cost of shipping on all those orders. $8.00 each? Another $3200?
$4700 give or take for every 400 orders?
I'd bet there were thousands of orders. If it was just a few grand, they wouldn't have gone through all the headache of canceling everything.
-
Somebody call the whaaaaaaambulance. ******* crybabies.
There was a $10.34 difference on two figures shipped. Unless you're bulk ordering these things it's not that much of an increase. I understand the position regarding customer service and fault, but c'mon – that point was made five days ago. How long are you guys going to bitch about a nominal amount of money?
Yeah! Let's just keep whining and bitching (because we never make mistakes ourselves) until we get through to them and they understand our pain! I want my $10.34 baaaaaaaaaack. Whaaaaaaaaa. :'(

As I don't like dealing we people or companies that don't keep there word or can't own up to their mistakes. This is the problem with the world today and will be the down fall of society in time.
Do you or would teach you children to bend over and take it if someone did them wrong? That is what you are asking us to do. Yes, it might only be max $10 to me or you and thousands to Hasbro, but they are going to get that money back one way or the other. All this would be a tax right off for them, and we continue to buy products they mark up a big margin. So they do not loss anything, if they handle this the way they should.
Do you or would you teach them it is okay to lie, cheat, and steal? Well if you do or would teach then not to keep their word you already started them off to the other stuff. I do not offer my money to any one that would lie, cheat, and steal. The government is bad enough that they force you too, but I do not have to take this crap from a company that does these things.

PS: If there is a big enough stink over this maybe Lucas will pull Hasbro's license, giving some other company with values and honest principles the license to make these Star Wars toys we all love.
-
Principle only gets you so far.
There is a dollar amount, I don't know what it is, where it is not worth it for Hasbro to eat the losses on this. They probably had a meeting, discussed it, and decided that there were too many orders to be giving the discount on this figure, and that was that.
It lends to the idea that this guy won't be available later on though. Who knows.
In the end, this is small potatoes. It's annoying, and it sucks for people who thought they were getting a great deal, but if it sounds too good to be true...
-
Yeah ultimately I think a lot of the impact of this will roll off some, and not so much off others... I'm reluctant to order online regardless of where, so HTS isn't any different than anywhere else to me honestly... I didn't do much ordering and really only things like a 25% off coupon spark me to do much ordering.
I'm keeping my order on these because a local needed one of the ones I got an order in for... I'm not overly content with the situation, but it is what it is to me too... I'll most likely order there again though, just who knows when that'll be... I didn't order much in the first place and all.
It's a dead issue though, regardless... I don't blame people for being upset though, as there is a certain level of feeling as though the rug were pulled from under your feet. That's tough to argue, and justifies any discontent I think... But at this point you aren't gonna change it either I'm afraid. After the last weekend, it was the last thing that was bound to give me a headache, I can say that much. :)

I look at it this way; we're lucky to get ahold of such a code to use in the first place. If you think about it, those codes aren't really meant for us, they're meant for friends and family of Hasbro employees, so in a way, we're abusing a privilege that isn't meant for us in the first place. With all the complaining, there is a chance that these coupon codes might cease now.

Well we don't know if they are e-mailed out to customers or not. I haven't seen any proof one way of the other. It doesn't say anything about employee related use only.
Second I could careless if they don't offer any more coupon codes as I'll never buy again from HTS. Plus it will just hurt them in the long run as many only buy on-line when there are coupon like this offered.

So, althis gibberish that I shouldn't use the code is nonsense. HTS sent it to everyone on the mailing list and encouraged those people to pass it on, and those people to pass it on.
So, all you need is a friend (like my many friends here at Jedi Defender) that is on a mialing list.
So, that coupon was never meant to be exclusive.

Didn't know that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. ;)

I got another e-mail this morning from Hasbro, not sure if anyone already posted it here (sorry if it is repeated):
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Customer:
After your recent purchase of a Star Wars Ralph McQuarrie Signature
Series Concept Luke Skywalker Figure with Collector Coin, we informed you
that the Friends & Family offer was not intended for use on that item
as advertised in the promotional flyer created for that event. The
discount was applied due to a technical error and we apologize for any
inconvenience this may have caused. In an effort to make the purchase of
this item fair and equitable for customers who attended STAR WARS
Celebration IV and those who did not, we must apply the standard price and
shipping rates for your order.
In order to complete and ship your transaction, please call
1-800-408-0052 by June 9, 2007 to confirm that we may either apply the standard
price of the item and any applicable shipping charges to your credit card
or to cancel your order. Instead of simply shipping your item(s), we
need to confirm your acceptance of the additional charges before
authorizing/charging your credit card. After confirming the updated charges,
we will schedule your items to ship on June 11, 2007. If you do not
call the number above we will be forced to cancel your order on June 9,
2007.
Thank you for your response to this request. We look forward to hearing
from you. Again, we regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

I just got that one too. I'll give them a call.

Same thing on my end. Gave them a call and everything should be all set.

You guys must not have complained as bad as I did :D I got my response on 05/31 and posted it on page 17. I'm still not going to cancel my order, but this whole situation has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Yeah! Let's just keep whining and bitching (because we never make mistakes ourselves) until we get through to them and they understand our pain! I want my $10.34 baaaaaaaaaack. Whaaaaaaaaa. :'(

Well said Roran, what a subservient attitude towards not being able to change anything. Some people like to bend over and take whats given to them without complaint. Your are dead right, its not the $11 its the principle of it all. I cancelled my order so the groveling "give anything because its Star Wars" saps can pick the scraps off Hasbro's plate.
We all make mistakes. But personally when I make a mistake, I do my best to correct my error even if I am at a loss. They should have met us halfway as a sign of good character/faith. Case closed for me, I cancelled and moved on but I will remember that. Not cool.

Good for Hasbro. A lot of people were posting that they were going to do chargeback on their credit cards after they get their order. They would have been unsuccessful in the long run, but this will save a whole lot of hassle on their end.
-
Yeah you shouldn't try a scam to get one over on Hasbro over it. I didn't mind making the call, that should probably have been the way to do things in the first place instead of them sending a 2nd email.

There was a $10.34 difference on two figures shipped.
Actually, after talking with Hasbro just now to confirm my order, my difference was $13.03 with the shipping... jerk. >:(

I just did the same thing. By the time I was done with his ear, he was tripping and stuttering over his words. I made sure to get my money's worth.
And my Lukes.

Man, I just wish someone would have guessed this would happen sooner. It could have saved so much grief and frustration for lots of people. If only someone would even have hinted at the possibility. :-X
-
HOLY ****! The droids are going for retail on SWS. I figured they'd be at least $35.
Speaking of the droids... has anyone gotten their order from ToyRocket yet?
-
While the droids may be easy to get, Luke is not.
In response to your question, I received my Droids from TR on Monday.
-
I got shipping confirmation from ToyRocket yesterday, so they should be on the way sometime in the next week or so. I'm glad that these are available online so that (hopefully) everyone can get one, but as it was mentioned, I feel bad for the people who stood in line for hours to get these (especially for others). It would be better if we could just know before hand, so we wouldn't have to make the begging lists like we do "just in case".

Except for when I can't get one from a convention, then it'll never show up again and become the next Toy Fair Vader. :P
-
Toy Fair Vader was available online after the event. Yes, it was limited, but even little old me managed to score a couple. I will admit that was more like a Gentle Giant online fiasco, but it was there.
-
I posted this over on GH, but I'll post it here, too...
My droids made it from ToyRocket yesterday (thanks guys! that was fast!) and I cracked open the package tonight. The R2 figure kicks some major butt! That is a great figure for what could have been a simple lump of gray metal. There is so much detail on the body and on the legs, plus the added fun of the droid's little "spider" arms. R2 is definitely worth it.
The 3PO on the other hand has an odd slouch to him. In McQuarrie's painting he appears to be standing straight, but the figure just can't quite match that pose ... and it's frustrating. I know Lucas has always said his original version of 3PO was of a fast-talking, slick used-car salesman; but the McQuarrie painting always made me think of a very proper and polite personality, a gentleman (and not in the prissy, effiminate way 3PO was ended up portrayed, and which only became more over-the-top and goofy in each subsequent film). Well the slouching figure matches Lucas's vision more than McQuarrie's interpretation of the droid. I think I liked McQuarrie's better.
...but R2 definitely kicks ass!

True that. I was able to score a pair of TF Vaders online as well. Traded one for C2's Jorg Sacul the same year. :P

Mine showed up today. Very nice figures.
I wonder how long Hasbro will take to ship Luke?

I think it's about a week away. June 11th or 13th or so.

Still waiting on my McDroids from ToyRocket. I got the shipping notice last Saturday, I'm starting to get worried.
-
My McDroids should be on their way as well from ToyRocket.

Still waiting on my McDroids from ToyRocket. I got the shipping notice last Saturday, I'm starting to get worried.
Also got my notice last Saturday, the USPS tracking information was not updated all week long, and they showed up at my office today, a week later.
Look for them any time now.
-
Yeah, mine came today as well, and that lack of updates on the tracker was what was scaring me.
Fantastic figures though. I have yet to open them because they look so damn good carded. I should have ordered a second set, but money is tight...
-
I received the McQuarrie droids on Saturday from ToyRocket as well, and they sure do look nice. I kind of had buyers remorse picking up two sets, because of the higher price, but now I'm glad I did. Hopefully Luke will ship this week as well, I believe Hasbro's e-mail said June 11th, so we'll see.
-
What a load of horse sh*t!! Has this happened to anyone else? (I hope not)
On Friday (June 8th) I called Hasbro to confirm my order and accept the adjusted price ($37.52) for the 2 Concept Lukes that I ordered. This was within the June 9th window that they gave. At the time I asked the customer service rep (Beth) if I could get an e-mail confirmation of the adjusted price to print out. She told me that they would send one out when it shipped. This is what I got this evening instead.

In regard to the above post:
I got the same email, even though I confirmed my order and authorized the higher price 6 days ago, on time.
Tonight Beth told me that because of a glitch in the system, everyone still got the cancelled emails, but to just ignore them.
She reassured me that if you called to confirm, the order is not cancelled, despite what the email says.
For now, I'll believe her.
-
What a load of horse sh*t!! Has this happened to anyone else? (I hope not)
I also got the "Per your request, we have canceled your outstanding order" e-mail despite calling to accept the changes. ::)

This is turning into one of the most ridiculous Star Wars on-line cluster****s of all time. ::)
-
Well i just called and the woman said yes the order was canceled. I told her i didnt cancel it and she had to reactivate my order. You guys may need to call as well.
-
I was just coming over here to post about this after opening this e-mail this morning. I called and confirmed the price increase and that I wanted to keep my order as well, and then received the cancellation e-mail this morning. I'm glad to see it didn't just happen to me, and hopefully everyone will have their orders go through. I agree with Jeff, this has just been ridiculous.
-
It looks like anyone who ordered it is still getting it, but Hasbro sure is doing a ****** job with this whole matter.
They sold it to us, then contacted us because they wanted to raise the price after the fact, then we had to call and give them permission to charge us more, then a week later we get emails saying it's cancelled anyhow, then you have to call them again to make sure it's not cancelled. And, we still don't have them in hand yet.
They should have just honored the original price that they sold it to us for and shipped it out.
-
I'm just hoping I can secure one the week of June 18.
$14.99 is fine by me.
-
I called around 8 am MTN and couldn't get through. The line rang and then went to a fast busy signal.
I just tried again, got right through to someone there. My order is okay and ready to ship.
-
I never got a cancellation email, but the lady I spoke with on Friday was a real witch and basically treated me like a piece of trash. It was the end of the day so I didn't feel like fighting with her over a couple of toys, but it looks like I'll now need to call back again to see WTF is going on.
This might as well have been a WM exclusive with all these hoops I'm having to jump through >:(
**My card got hit last night with a $37.08 charge (I really liked the original $24 charge better for some reason)...So no cancellation email and a debit...looking good so far.
-
I called on Saturday to confirm my order, and I haven't seen a cancellation email yet. I'll have to check my account to see if I've been charged yet or not.
-
I just got an email saying my Luke has shipped from HTS.

I got mine today... what a strange long trip it's been. Just glad they are finally en route. :)

It's just going to be a voucher for a McQuarrie Luke incase they're ever in stock at HTS again, and a Friends and Family Discount Coupon. The package isn't going to be a box, it's going to be an envelope.
-
Finally ordered my droids from Toyrocket. Better late than never.
-
Got my Lukes today. One thing that I noticed is that they don't have the double insert card in the clamshell. I wonder if this figure was made as a celebration exclusive late in the game.
Coool, cool figure. Oh, and I really gotta say that I pissed off that the convention exclusives are easier to get than the regular figures. I have yet to see a Concept Fett or Chewie.
-
Got my Luke today. I am glad that is out of the way. the problem that this luke should have been in the basic line with Vader instead of the Starkiller Hero fig (which should have been the Exclusive) now we await McObi and McYoda.
-
Got my Lukes and the droids over the weekend/today and they're all really nice I think... The 3PO could've used knee joints but really all 3 figures are pretty spiffy in general.
Wish I could have another set of droids for customizing pieces (I'd love a variety of that 3PO for background droids), but the price probably will prohibit me from doing that. :-\ I'm still debating it. The Luke is really a nice figure though in general. Very well done... Can be posed neutrally or in the classic art style, which is nice. It looks like the legs were sculpted just so you could have him standing around, or in the wide stance. That's cool to me.
I love the McQuarrie line in general and would love to have a set of these carded too actually. I'm still on the fence on that one for cost reasons as well though. At $15 a pop on the Luke and $20 on the droids, that mounts up darn fast buying 2 or 3 of each figure.
-
Got my Concept Luke today, as well as a email that my droids have shipped.
It's kind of sad that these beleaguered exclusives were much easier for me to obtain than the Concept figures in the basic line.
-
If anyone is still looking, I just checked over at HTS.com, and the McQuarrie Luke Skywalker is currently in stock. I'm sure it won't be for long, but just a heads up for anyone still looking to pick this one up.
-
Thanks for the heads up! This was the only Mcquarrie figure I'm missing at the moment and was just able to order 1. And here I thought I was going to have to pay out the nose for one on feebay.
-
Thanks to a tip from Dressel I was able to get one from HTS, thus completing my exclusive McQuarrie collection until SDCC. I could have gotten one earlier this month from Darth Kenobi but I didn't have the money at the time so I ended up paying a few dollars more, but $22 is better than paying double that on eBay.
-
...and now he's gone.
-
He's still coming up as "in stock" for me, after refreshing and all that. I've been kind of surprised he's been in stock this long, but maybe these aren't quite as limited as originally thought. Hopefully everyone will be able to get what they are looking for, and they do the same with the SDCC McQuarrie Yoda and Obi-Wan.

Not picking on you Brian, but I just don't believe anything is limited unless there happens to be a specific edition size attached to it. It's the biggest reason why I refuse to get worked up about pretty much anything Hasbro does these days. I'm still appreciative of many of the toys they put out, notably and especially the McQuarrie figures, but show exclusive or not, there's just too damn many of them to pay a premium or get stressed.
Yeah, I might pay a hair over retail and add in some shipping costs but that really only applies to show exclusives. For anything else, I can wait a year if I have to. Figures just aren't rare any more (and probably never really were).
-
Yeah, I'm starting to get that same outlook on things Brent. Like many of us talked about when these C4 exclusives were announced, why would they tool up an all-new figures to only release a limited number of them? There seems to be some truth to what we're thinking, because it seems like both sets are now fairly available (even though they are more expensive). The key is patience I guess, which I have to keep telling myself. Hopefully the McQuarrie Yoda and Obi-Wan will be as easy for everyone to pick up.
-
I completely agree with that thinking. Look at the UGH figs from last year. Hold out a bit longer and if you wanted them but couldn't find them before you can probably pick up a set now for near retail. $10 a fig at the most. Of course the lava vader may be the exception but only because it had an announced edition size. Even then it's only a $15-$20 figure without shipping.
-
I finally got around to opening a set of each since having bought them at CIV. Fun figures.
