1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / Re: Sideshow 12" Asajj Ventress
« on: November 16, 2006, 02:58 PM »
So you counted the Endor troper as three?  That's neglible.  As well, Jabba (to me) is a statue - not a $50 figure.

Again, I said that we haven't seen any 'classic' OT characters.  By classic, I mean core characters in their memorable garb.  Luke in Tatooine garb, Han in his smuggler outfit, Old Ben with his jedi robes - figures like that.

And yes, I am voting with my dollars (or should I say, not voting).    /displaying?

Eh, I was on the fence about how to categorize the Endor Troopers... probaby should have just counted them as 1... 6.5/8 ratio .... I also didn't count the multiple Anakin's... I only got the Vader version (THAT was a cheapass move on SSC's part for sure!)

Luke, Han, Old Ben (I'd LOVE an old Ben) are still going to be using the same body/mold as all the others.   As for Jabba- exactly what do you plan on doing (figurish) with your Sideshow pieces besides posing/displaying?   I agree he might not have been the best choice of character to go for but I think they did an awesome job.   I've always been partial to the non-SE Cantina/Jabba's scene, so for at this THIS collector, I'm quite happy with the choices.     I don't know if SideShow is shying away from OT Classic figures that have been done decently by Hasblo (how many lukes and Ben Kenobi's do we have?) but it's a possibility.    I DO hope that they will up the OT characters in '07 though....     with Asajj, Maul, and SnowBunny Padme, we're SO due for some OT fixes.   I want to see a Chewie (all other 12" Chewie's are terrible!), Leia in Bespin Gown, Old Ben (but later down the line), Fett (although the Electronic Fett is pretty sweet already), Vader (again, the electronic version w/removable helmet is cool) and the Max Rebo Band to go with my Jabba's throne room.   For one reason or another, I'm hooked on this line... and my poor wallet too!

That's the greatest thing about collecting... everyone has different levels and preferences... I'm even thinking of shelling out $$$$$$$ for the Collectors Fleet Super Star Destroyer I passed up for 16 bucks in Austin in 99.   I'm an addict... is there any help out there?

Yeah, they all look great until you receive them.

I've already quit this line because of the overuse of existing bodies, robes, and accessories.

Instead of tooling a Fett, stormie or Vader - they get greedy and tool a $500 Jabba set.

2007 is 30th anniversary of the original and we haven't seen any classic OT characters from Sideshow yet.

Poor product selection IMO - I'd be more than happy with a classic Leia in white robes and 'old' Obi Wan from ANH.

Haven't seen any "classic OT characters"?     Luke Jedi, Han Bespin, Endor Troopers, Jabba, Boussh, Bib, Salacious Crumb (sort of).
That's 8.5 compared to I think 8 Prequel characters.  I think they're mixing them up well, and I suspect we'll see more OT characters next year as well.    I think Lucas is chalking the 30th anniversary as being "of the SW franchise" rather that "A New Hope" specifically.  The Jabba Set IMHO is awesome......  all I need now is a Max Rebo Band and I'll be happy!   And if you don't like it.. or the price... don't buy it.... you don't see ME waiting in line for a PS3  ;D

Well.... 12" Greivous has been freed... what a crappy figure it is though!   His weak, tiny hands can't even grasp a single lightsaber... not to mention all 4 of them!   I'll have to get some of the "bands" and use those for posers... err... posES I meant..
Also unleashed my remainng Collector Series 12"ers... Sandtrooper, Modal Nodes, ATAT, TIE Pilot, Tusken, Greedo, Luke Bespin, Luke Ceremonial.   Still holding on to my SAGA Jawas and Obi-Wan.

I'll try and get some pics up this week!

The Vintage Collection / Re: Hasbro Weekly Q and A
« on: November 8, 2006, 09:13 AM »
I, for one, look forward to reading the Archives when they are updated and referring back to them from time to time.   I greatly appreciate the compilation of having the entire gammut of questions in one place rather than having to go to 12 different sites to see what the Questions and Answers are!

Thanks for making it avialable to us!

So, should the thread be retitled, "Greatest Hits-Collector's Choice (as long as it is concurrent with what Hasbro already has planned, otherwise, See you on Ebay, fanboys!)"?

I knew that Ephant Mon and/or Graxxol would "lose" based on Hasbro not wanting to invest money in their packaging in some way, but I would have placed my bet on Rebelscum "recounting the votes" and making them lose.  I never would have suspected Hasbro would reserve the right to do the exact opposite of "Collector's Choice" if it conflicted with their bottom-line.

So, now that we know this, here's the true Greatest Hits lineup for next year:

01.  Anakin Skywalker (ROTS #2)
02.  Darth Vader (500th Figure)
03.  R2-D2 (ROTS Electronic Lights and Sounds)
04.  Chewbacca (ROTS)
05.  Emperor Palpatine (ROTS #12)
06.  Clone Trooper (Utapau Version, if we're lucky)
07.  Luke Skywalker (2004 Saga Jedi Knight)
08.  Darth Vader (TSC 2006 Hoth; yes, I know...)
09.  C-3P0 (ROTS)
10.  Pit Droids 2 pack (two repaints of the one that came with Gasgano in 1999)
11.  Mace Windu (ROTS, again)
12.  Biker Scout (POTJ version)

Hrmm... Methinks I'll be buying.. um... all.... ZERO of them...

Nah, rip open Grievous!  To hell with his so-called dollar value, he's way cooler open than stuck in the box.

And the chances of Sideshow making a Greivous soon........

Same here, but the old names are easier to remember. :P

After play Decipher's SW Customizable Card Game, I can't go back to the old times any more... it's either Myo or Abyssian or Momaw or Ithorian, Dice Ibegon, Myoom Oniith etc...
Lucky for me- aliens are my favorite part of Star Wars

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: 30th Anniversary Tin Collector Set

I saw a lone ESB set the other day and and kind of liked the fact that the figures had a snow dusting. It certainly makes the Chewbacaa more apealing and the whole set less annoying to get just for the Snowtrooper.

It's still a repack- the Han and Chewie with snow aren't exaclty new ideas for hasblo...

In Star Wars Galaxies, one of the veterans rewards was a YT-1300 Frieght that you could actually fly around in and walk around inside... it was pretty cool (but had no weapons)

Star Wars Universe / Re: 20 more years?
« on: November 3, 2006, 09:35 AM »
Last I saw Lucas has been saying that we only said he COULD stretch the story into 9 movies, but that 6 is what he was aiming for.

Don't worry, eventually repacking the movies will stop funding all Lucas does.  Then either he makes more (I kinda hope he doesn't though) or he'll sell rights to make them.  (Thrawn Trilogy!)

Don't forget the annoucment that LucasFilm is stepping out of the Movie arena after Indy IV and concentrating only on TV/Animated media.....

Star Wars Universe / Re: Why do so many hate the Expanded Universe?
« on: November 3, 2006, 09:34 AM »
Wow Jesse James your posts are so close to how I feel about EU.  I'm not sure what to add to it. heh

I've always loved how they make the effort to make the whole EU one story, of one history.  But like Darkhorse has infinities (what ifs), I wish they'd do the same with some of the earlier EU.  It doesn't all have to fit together; and I'm one that loves order!  The Prophets of the Dark side, couldn't we have just left that out?

That said, I still want to get an official timeline list of all things Star Wars.  Comics and books and video games and the RPG stuff all meshed into one history. It is like I love the continuity and hate it at the same time.

I think the Vong series hurt EU.  It was borglike, and it dismantled what Jedi were.  Made them too simple to kill.  The whole idea of "if I can't feel you in the force, I can't fight you."

EU also relies too heavily on the movies characters.  I loved X-Wing for the move away from "beat up Luke" book of the month.  I don't mind NOT seeing jedi in a story.

I totally loved Jesse's post too- the EU and the whole Star Wars Galaxy is open to individual interpretation... everyone see's it from their own "point of view" as Obi-Wan so eloquently put it.

The Vong series was not my favorite-- read it I did, love it I did not.   I'm currently re-reading the post OT novels and just started Planet of Twilight and just realized something that really bothers me about Callista- when she "comes back" and has no connection to the force, Luke can't even see her at all....  and that sorta got me thinking about how the Jedi can't sense the Vong in force either... but Callista isn't Vong.. so shouldn't there be at least SOMETHING Luke can sense in her?

Just speculating....
