Title: Mattel Green Lantern Classics
Post by: Brian on May 12, 2010, 11:20 AM
To tempt Jeff with another line.....I was over at BBTS last night, and noticed that they had "Green Lantern Classics Wave 1" listed for preorder (shipping Fall 2010).  They have since changed the listing to "To Be Announced Classics"...sounds to me like a GL line is on the way.  Kind of surprised they would start it so far prior to the movie (coming next June), but it might be a good idea to build momentum - plus, get lots of comic styled stuff out there before it shifts to more (or all?) movie stuff.

I was going to make a topic about that, Brian (make it so, Jeff  :P).

Multiple e-tailers are confirming it, but really can't post any details about the line.  From what I gathered over at the fwoosh, the line fits in with DCUC and is a six figure set with a CnC, scheduled for late summer.

Rumored line up from greenlanterncorps.com:

GREEN LANTERN WAVE ARKILLO
KYLE
MONGRUL
BLACK HAND
BLACK LANTERN
MANHUNTER
SINESTRO LOW AND NASH

Is it a Mattel line or DC Direct?

From what I understand, this is a Mattel line - but I don't know much more about it that hasn't already been posted.  It could make for a nice line though, and really build off the GL hype going right now between the great books, Blackest Night, and the upcoming movie.  A lot of character potential there too, even if most of it would be targeted at collectors more than casual buyers.  I think DCUC has become that at this point too with a lot of the lineups, and I don't think it has hurt that line at all.

Hopefully this line gets the full attention similar to the regular Classics line.  I don't want to see a bunch of alternate heads on Hal's body (see the upcoming Walmart GL 5 pack for examples of cutting corners.  The only two worthwhile figs in that set are Guy and Tomar and Sinestro is really bad).  I want the alien members of the various rainbow brigades.

Well i did some digging and seems like it is a 4HM line as well so i am in since GL is my favorite DC character. The rumored wavbe sounds pretty good too.

Rumored first wave:

Kyle Rayner
Mongul
Black Hand
Black Lantern ?
Manhunter
Sinestro Low and Maash
C&C Arkillo

Kyle Rayner
Sinestro Corps Low
Sinestro Corps Maash
Black Lantern Abin Sur
CnC Arkillo

These look neat. Lots of really wierd and freaky design, which I like. I'll probably grab the first wave at the very least. i wonder if theres any hope of these hitting Canada.

Tempting... so tempting.  :-\

I was wondering if this would be the line to finally get you to break ;).  You're a stronger man than I, sir.

I see the Green Lantern 5 Pack (http://www.walmart.com/ip/DC-Universe-Green-Lantern-Action-Figure-5-Pack/14690522) is up and available to order at WM.com.  I'm still not sure what to do about this pack.  I just about placed an order, but I'm still not sure.  I'd like to get Guy Gardner and Tomar, but not sure I necessarily need the Hal/John repaints, or the big buff Sinestro.  I'm sort of on the fence with this.  With the upcoming Classics line, I'm setting aside a shelf for just Green Lantern (alongside Spidey and Batman), so this would fit in nicely with that too.

I ordered both Guy and Tomar from an ebay seller in China for just over $30 shipped.  I'm happy with that, they arrived perfectly with no defects and I'm not stuck with 3 **** ass figures.  Plus I haven't seen this pack at Walmart yet (not that I'm actively looking for it).

Ugh - this line is so, so tempting for me.

Question - if I did start with these (GLC wave 1/2)), how horrible would it be to back-track to fill in what they've put out so far?  I've heard that I'd have to shell out big $$$ for stuff like the SC Romar/Karu 2-pack and a few others (CnC Kilowog).   :-\

I've always been impressed/surprised that could stay away from this stuff Jeff.  Off the top of my head, I don't think it would be too bad catching up, with the ones you mentioned already probably being the priciest ones.  I don't know how easy to find some of the past DCUC Lanterns are (John Stewart, Katma), but I can't imagine they'd be that expensive.  I know I keep going back and forth on that Abin Sur/Hal Jordan pack at TRU, but just haven't been able to bring myself to spend $30 on Abin (since I have a handful of Jordans already).  I may do it eventually if it is still there and I have the extra money.

The Fwoosh has a first look (http://thefwoosh.com/2010/11/first-look-green-lantern-classics-series-one#more-11520) at GL Classics - Wave 1.  The figures really do look nice, I hope to be able to pick them all up.  Hoping this line goes more than the two waves we know about, as there really is a lot they could tackle in the GL universe in comic form (personally, although I know DC Direct has done him, I'm hoping for a GLC Larfleeze).

I see that TNI (http://i.toynewsi.com/g/index.php?mode=album&album=Mattel%2FDCUC%2FGL_2-Pack&dispsize=600&start=0) has a look at the upcoming TRU Exclusive Green Lantern/Sinestro 2 pack (this is with the new/larger Sinestro).  Looks pretty nice, hope it isn't too difficult to find.  I like that they included a number of constructs for both.

It looks like BBTS has GLC Wave 1 in stock right now (individually, or as a set), for anyone interested.  I wonder if these will be hitting retail as well?

I hope these hit retail as there are a few that I want.  I would like to get the Kyle Rayner, Manhunter and black hand.  Does anyone know if the Mongul is a repaint of the old DC Superheroes one, or a new sculpt.  From the pics I've seen I'm guessing repaint, but I'm not certain.

Mongul's a repaint and from what I've seen (My set is due next week from ETC) is the only suck figure in the wave.  Way undersized.  Mongul Jr. was huge in the comics.

I'm wondering if these are going to hit retail as well.  I've got a few of these on the way from BBTS today (Kyle, Manhunter, Black Hand) - anxious to check them out.  I hope to eventually get the rest of the wave, but I just couldn't afford to do the whole thing at once right now.  I do have Wave 2 on preorder though ;).

I got my set from BBTS and they are really nice. The sculpts are great as always but i really enjoy the paint on kyle. Great work, looking forward to series 2.

Not really feeling it.

Anyone still finding the new Walmart wave. I still need 4 but can't find them anywhere.

Just as a heads up for anyone interested, but I found the new Hal Jordan vs. Sinestro two pack at TRU this morning.  This is the one with the new/improved Sinestro.  Although I have quite a few Hal figures at this point, I did pick it up for the better/taller Sinestro and all the nifty constructs it comes with.  Looks pretty neat in the package too.  Oh, and it was $34.99.

Picked up my Kyle, Black Hand and Manhunter.  Nice figs, and Black Hand is especially well done.  My Manhunter has loose joints in the hips and won't stand on his own, but other then that this is a great line.  I almost picked up the other 3 just for Arkillo, but I really didn't need another Mongul, and didn't care much for the other two.
Considering this part of DCUC, this is actually the first wave that I haven't gone for the C&C figure, so that felt kind of weird.  Kinda liberating at the same time though  ;)

Oh you should get the ones you don't want - Arkillo is definitely worth it (plus Kilowog needs someone to fight).

This might be old news to some, but our local TRU actually had these out on the pegs today (Wave 1).  That's the first I've seen them at retail ($17.99 each).  I was tempted to pick up Low and Maash since I missed them online earlier, and they are the only ones I'm missing from that wave, but had to hold off for now.

You convinced me Mikey.  I broke down and picked up Arkillo last week.  He's awesome  ;D
