Hi all,

I'm a carded collector and have been since the Vintage era.  However, the coin album coupled with IKEA doing a fantastic glass display case for just £35 has got me thinking that I should make my 30AC loose.

I need convincing.  Anyone fancy giving it a go?

Cheers,

Nick

As someone who's been collecting both carded and loose since 1995 - I can definitively say that the loose collecting is far more enjoyable for me at least.  I can't really say why - but it is.

In her defense, people leaving NYC right after Toy Fair (and this happened to Paul) did get in weather trouble... flights were canceled and the other flights were all booked solid.  It took Paul 3 extra days to get home.

As for the laptop - I'm guessing she was being tongue-in-cheek about the weather having anything to do with it.

But either way...

If you're a lucky lottery winner and you get to buy an exclusive from the site, is it just one per customer?  I'm assuming it is - but if you can buy 2 or 3 maybe we could all pool our chances and scratch each other's backs should one of us be so fortunate.

Well I managed to land Han and Yoda for $20.50 each - plus shipping.  Same seller, so hopefully he'll combine the shipping and I'll have landed those two for $25 or $26 each.  Not too bad (I think...).

Also, it looks like Amanda from GG made some blog post or something - people at RS are going ape **** over it... not many happy campers it seems.

Does this sale mean that TRU is going to load up on 30thAC stuff shortly?

Hey Rob does your girlfriend follow baseball too?

She can't stand Baseball - she thinks it's the most boring game ever. (maybe second to Golf).

Scott, thanks for the time adjustment.   8)

Anyone know anything about the Babel 2-Disc?  It's listed in the Circuit City ad, but my local store didn't have any - neither did Best Buy (who's ad it is NOT listed in).

I haven't seen it yet and want to watch it before the Oscars... but I also don't want to get the bare bones edition.

C-3PO comes with a Salacious Crumb. Hopefully he comes with a chewed out eye.

Co-sign.

And hopefully they use the Endor Deity 3PO as a base.

Co-sign deux.

Thanks for those replies guys.  Great info.  I signed up for the Premium Whatever-it-is with hopes that a) the free gift will be decent) and b) I'll be able to get my hands on convention exclusives in the future.

I'm going to keep my eye on eBay for good deals, the forums too - and Nick, that's a great suggestion about comic shops - we've got one called Zeus that I'm going to check into this weekend and see if there's anything they can do for me.

As for playing catch-up, I've got two things working for me.  First, patience, I'm not in a rush.  Second, I'm not intending to be a completist on these.  I'm not worried about the early ones with no arms, and I'm not spending $100 to $250 on exclusives.  I'll look for deals, pick up a few here and a few there, and I'll be thrilled about it.  My plan is to just be as current as possible on FUTURE exclusives, rather than break the bank on past exclusives.  We'll see how that goes.

So far I've picked up a pair of busts for under $80 with shipping (Maul and Vader), and I've got my eye on a few more.   No rush though.

1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / Re: Sideshow 12" Darth Maul
« on: February 20, 2007, 02:39 AM »
I got the Darth Maul last week as a gift from Sideshow at Toy Fair (very generous of them!) - my first Sideshow 12" and I've gotta say that I absolutely love it.

$50 is still more than I can justify for a 12" figure - but I'm very tempted to start ordering all of these... they certainly blow Hasbro's out of the water in terms of quality.

Alright... so for the longest time I've had a pair of busts... X-Wing Luke, and IG-88.

Then my dad picks me up Chewbacca for Xmas.  Then I go to Toy Fair and see all the new stuff and get real excited about it and decide that I'm going to slowly start expanding my Mini-Bust collection.

A Vader and a Maul later... I'm starting to get hooked and I want to start playing catch-up, but most importantly, I don't want to miss out on the ones that are coming out soon and will be impossible to get down the road.

So, to save me from having to scrub through 94 pages in this thread - can anyone offer a newbie some fresh advice about getting on top of all of this?  I registered at GG's website and made a wishlist with everything that I'm missing... but that's only helping me get organized.

Tips for ordering from them without missing the boat?

Tips for getting in on convention exclusives when you can't attend?  Easier to find a friend to get one for you or easier to become a premiere member?

Can money be saved by NOT ordering when they're for sale on standard edition busts?  For example, I just got Maul for $35 and Vader for $39 - are edition size and exclusiveness enough to know whether or not one will cost more than or less than $50 later on?

Tips besides eBay for finding busts that are long since sold out?

Lastly... if anyone is unloading any for reasonable prices... let me know. :)

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: UGH 2007
« on: February 20, 2007, 02:26 AM »
I managed to land all the UGH figures last time around... I'll try to find whatever they're selling this time too - but like last time, I certainly won't stress over it or go out of my way looking for them.

I managed to nab 3 Sandtroopers (added a Green EII clone to get to an even number) and managed to also buy a pair of the collector's tin sets (ROTJ and ANH).

Since I refused to pay $25 or $30 for the one figure in each set that I needed, this was perfect.

I managed to get the EII clone on ebay for $12, the cantina pack for $13, these two for $15 each, and got the hoth contents from Paul... so, I'm only about $43 or so in and I'm 5/7ths done with only the EIII Driver and the EI droid to go.

Not too bad.  :D

I went into a second TRU this morning and found 1 Comic pack... I've been refusing to spend full price (out of principal) on these too but would have snagged them at Buy-one-get-one.  Unfortunately they only had one pack.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: SAGA Stands - Print Removal?
« on: February 20, 2007, 02:19 AM »
This sounds like a fantastic Idea.  I've got somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 of these and was thinking that if I could gather the 103 or 108 or whatever it is, they'd be great for a vintage set up.

My original plan had just been to flip them around so the print was facing the other way - but if it can be removed with goof-off, that's even better.

Signing up now...

Just one problem - the 28th through the 1st I'll be in Florida for a wedding and won't be able to draft - any chance we could slip it a few days in either direction?  I can be available any time except for March 28 through April 1st.

Sorry.   :-\

I didn't bother her because she was out with her son, and because it's not my style to accost celebrities - but Kate Winslet was behind me in line the other day at the Natural History Museum.   :)
