Hmmm... looky what the spies sent us last night. No details on when/where just yet, but it sure looks like the type of thing you'd see for the Target UBP line or maybe some sort of CostCo exclusive or something?

I knew for some reason Hasbro couldn't ditch this format. Hopefully it's Target again and we get a half-assed OT set to go with it.
-
Interesting...I wonder if it is a Target UBP or not. I sort of got the impression we might be done with those after last year. I guess I wouldn't mind seeing a nicely done OT set, but then again, there are more than enough exclusives to pick up this year already so it would be ok to have a year off from these.
That said, this set would be a big pass from me either way - but maybe nice for a Christmas gift for kids. I don't understand the inclusion of the ROTS fighter with the CW Obi-Wan then, but it wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened. Stick the recent CW fighter in there instead, and it would make more sense I think.
-
I think this just may be a Euro big box retailer exclusive and may not be coming to the US. I love the ROTS ships in there with animated figures. Interesting, this is a great way to sucker us into buying more vehicles if they are repaints. Even if this comes here it's one of the easiest passes.
-
I think it's lame, but it's not targeted toward me anyway. Seems like something that would be geared toward parents looking for a decent Christmas present. I guess maybe by cutting down to two figures, they're trying to get back to a $50 price point.
Anyways, this is as easy of a pass as it gets for me.
-
1. Can't be the CostCo exclusive because they are doing the Turbo Tank this year - confirmed.
2. Euro-only Clone Wars release? Is there ANY precedent for that? I am an insane CW completist and I have NEVER heard of any CW animated merch coming out that was not available here in the US. (Would love to hear about any examples though if there are any)
3. I also find it VERY sketchy that they would be mixing lines like the ROTS and CW stuff. That just seems very collector unfriendly, plus Hasbro really seems keen on keeping the integrity of the various lines separate. I think that it's likely an animated re-done version of a ROTS ship that simply looks similar. (like how they re-did the AAT and Hailfire Droid)
4. Count me down for one of these no matter what the price. I want it!
-
This sucks so bad its got to be a TRU exclusive. If its a TRU exclusive, I'm guessing it will be priced at about $80 as well. 2 x $20 ship + 2 x $8 figure = $80 in value, while supplies last!

What does the epic battle mean, the utapau fight where grievous dies?
Obi arrived that scene in a blue-ish white starfighter, not a red one.... >:(
and there wasn't any dogfight with any of those fighters.... I think this pack is fake.
If not.... I'm not gonna get it.... :-X

Maybe this is a duel that we haven't seen yet in the Clone Wars and the ETA-2 JSF makes an appearance in the second season?
I'll repeat what I said when folks thought the CW Tin was fake - who would fake a patently lame set? If you were going to fake something wouldn't you fake something remotely cool or at least throw in an "exclusive only available in this set" item?
This is real. This is lame. Fin.

Well, there are other wholesale stores. I'm betting this is a foreign set, but will likely be distributed at a chain of wholesale stores. (Sam's or BJs) There was an AT-TE set like this last year.

Yep, but that AT-TE set was for CostCo. To my knowledge, BJ's or Sam's have never had a CW exclusive toy. (not action figure related anyway)
I agree, seems like a silly thing to fake. If it's real, I want it though.
-
Not to mention window-packaging isn't exactly easy to fake like that... Most people who fake things don't go to the extreme trouble of faking packaging.

^ cosign.

Epic Encounter? More like Epic FAIL!
Wrong ship, armored Obi...price undoubtedly too high...
Yeah, an EASY pass for me.
-
Whereas I agree that this is an easy pass for me, I also think if it's not too over priced and I was a ten year old who loved the cartoon series this would be really cool to get those two characters and their ships.
-
I agree. Obviously it is not aimed at collectors but parents or gift seekers. It's a decent looking pack really. I doubt it will be an epic "fail" really. LOL.
-
I think a lot depends on price... If this is $30, I think it would fly off shelves quickly. I doubt that of course, but I'm just saying that this could be as popular as anything new if it's priced right.
-
If it's less than $50 I'll be a little surprised. $20 each for each ship, $8 each for each figure. That's 56 there at least.
So either Hasbro will give a slight discount at $50, keep it at around the same price $55, or look to make a little more $60.
We'll see, but again doesn't matter to me since I'm not buying it.
-
Aahh! ... these Obi-Wan and Grievous figures are ALWAYS repacked! It's an impressive set as a Christmas gift - two vehicles and two figures? Great! But as a collector's item, well ... :(

Scum has a new update on this tonight. Hi-Res Package art, but not much detail about where or when to look for this.
I think I'm going to have to submit this as a question to Hasbro for the full poop.
-
It is a UK exclusive to TRU.
-
Thanks Jayson.
Hello, eBay!
Ugh, the shipping on this thing is going to be brutal...
-
I think this would make a good Christmas seller. ;D
-
Anyone have any idea when this is coming out? I was hoping it would be before X-Mas this year but I've yet to hear any overseas reports that these have been spotted. I have not seen one on eBay yet either...
-
I asked Adam Pawlus over at Galactic Hunter about this item and what it is and when we will ever see it, if at all. Here's what he had to say:
"International exclusive. No release has been specified as Hasbro has never announced it. For all we know we got a look at an International concept that made it to the packaged stage and did not get picked up-- this has happened before. Hasbro does not let us know about international exclusives, particularly when they perceive the items to be mere repacks."
So I'm not holding my breath on this one.
-
Yeah, it's definitely just a UK/European exclusive at this point and all signs are that it's going to stay that way. If you really want one, try Toy Palace (http://www.toy-palace.com/product_info.php?language=gb&info=p4706_TCW-Epic-Encounter-Fahrzeug---Figur-2-Pack.html&XTCsid=0ca001aa64a1ca75fe05c3ec1adc9c00) (Germany) or find a Euro-dude to help you get one.
-
Wow, thanks for that link! I had no idea this was even available yet. After the Euro to dollar conversion it looks like this is about $115, not including shipping. Yikes!
Still, it's great to have some confirmation it is out there. I am definitely ordering one...someday.
-
OHHH YEEEEAH!!
-
Well, I finally broke down and ordered this thing today off Toy Palace. It's been at the top of my list for nearly a year, and after months of diligent searching I feel confident I will never see this on eBay. That alone is practically unbelievable.
I got a small discount as a new customer, but it's still brutal financially. The shipping alone is half as much as the item itself. Still, as a diehard completist this was a mandatory pick-up.
Will bump the thread when it arrives, but it will likely be awhile.
-
Well, that was damn fast. My Toy Palace order actually arrived Saturday, just 8 days after I placed it.
I love this thing, just for the sheer weirdness. Not only is Obi-Wan's fighter a pre-TCW sculpt, Grievous' fighter appears to be too. I didn't notice that from previous pictures.
I am now officially, 100% caught up with everything Clone Wars related with the exception of the Boba Fett UBP which has not arrived here in town yet. ;D
-
That's a pretty neat score man. The obscure, overseas items are kinda cool for some reason. I would love to see some pics of the back of the box, if you have the time.
Also, did you get the European (I think) two-pack releases? TRU had some similar sets in 2008/09, but there are some red-packaged sets that weren't released stateside. Here's one:

That's funny you should ask...those 2 packs they put out are literally the ONLY Clone Wars items, outside of repacked figures, I have never had any interest in purchasing. I buy plenty of other repacked items, like the Holocron Heist BP or the K-Mart exclusive Commando Clone set, but usually there is something special like a new diorama or battle card or some such thing to justify its inclusion in my collection.
Those 2 packs just never did anything for me though. I liked the exclusive ones Walmart had and bought those of course, but other than that, I just have zero interest.
As far as Euro exclusives, the only other TCW one I have of note is the "Legends of the Clone Wars" Multi-pack. (Another repack, but well-packaged and impossible to find on ebay, etc)
I'll try to snap some photos if possible...I just rearranged my whole collection the past few days so it is easy to find.
