How about vehicles made of styrofoam and cardstock...to reduce costs.  Instantly some big name webmaster proclaims them as wonderfully nostalgic like the vintage GI JOE gliders and Kenner playset backdrops.

To me, the Medal Ceremony guy is like certain death for the line.  He would be like the Naboo Soldier of 2013.  A head scratcher of a figure that appeals to perhaps 10% of the collector market, and next to none of the kid market.

He was a pegwarmer and not even a well made one at that. However,  your statement applies to a lot of figures. The kid market is so fickle that when fans use that as an arguing point they are arguing against a Star Wars line with ANY collector focus.

I think collectors need to be prepared to compromise.  Get on board with a figure line that has a majority of characters with broad appeal, and a SMALL minority of collector focused figures.

The majority of characters with broad appeal would be under 20 characters. Even characters with a lot of screen time probably don't have much appeal in terms of selling toys, Lando, Palpatine, Leia, Padme...

Why comprise towards that?

Or what, he's gonna complain on a basic cable show that hardly anyone watches?

I just wonder how they are going to justify putting a goatee on the figure this time.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Star Trek
« on: March 19, 2013, 04:54 PM »
I don't know why they bothered. Star Trek has rarely had mainstream appeal as far as toys go. Playmates had a good run during a height of Trek popularity, but that was still mostly collectors. Of course, their movie stuff from a few years ago still lingers around Toys R Us, the second wave of figures never got made.

I was hoping as 3 3/4" line by Hasbro up to Star Wars standards, but the way things are now, it would've been a half dozen 5 point of articulation figures. So no loss.

He'd make a good multi pack release, and maybe that's what is going to happen. Not that a medal ceremony is that exciting.

I grabbed a Malgus, DS Luke and Lando, Darth Vader and...  one other that is escaping me at this moment... on the final $499 day at TRU.

$499 is a lot per figure, but not surprising.  :D

Folks are claiming the $4.99 TRU sale is still going on, with the current buy one get one half off sale, too.

I think Continuum is decent and enjoy SyFy's Being Human for what it is (if all three characters get reset to their original conditions, I'm going to be annoyed...only one left that hasn't.) I don't watch any of the (old) Big Three's shows. Not sure why...maybe because they are cancel happy. I watched the mediocre THE CAPE and the better THE RIVER last year and both got the axe.

And two more 2-packs in the Injustice: Gods Among Us 3.75” series:

- Aquaman / Black Adam
- Superman / Nightwing

We're now up to twelve really nice 3.75" DC figures wearing costumes from a video game that I care nothing about.    :-\

The pack says "Superman vs. Nightwing". That's a short fight.

Does anybody like any of the TV shows they watch?

No. Why would people watch something they like? Ridiculous.

I bet Andrea wouldn't have bothered leaving Woodbury if she'd known Governor had a GPS locater planted on her. I mean, it's that or Philip is part bloodhound.  Sure he knew where she was headed, that much was obvious. More impressive was that he knew she'd go that old factory (which looked abandoned but was somehow filled with undead). He knew the spot where she'd approach the prison. He's just that magnificent.

On the other hand, it wouldn't be hard to figure out who took a truck in the night and left the town. He didn't even need to question Tyreese and friends/frenemies.

I was wondering why Andrea didn't double back and steal the governor's truck....assuming he left the keys in it. Sounds good on paper.

It's hard to take the walkers seriously anymore. Andrea killed a dozen in a day after running miles with a tiny knife. They barely slow the Governor down. All you need is a big windchime and a deep pit...

I think Woodbury ends being overrun by a horde lured there by a crazed Milton gone all reverse pied pipery.

Anyone not using all 10 slots will have their empty slots filled with Jar Jar Binks variations.

That sounded a tad creepy.

Including...
1. Jar Jar Binks (extended tongue)
2. Jar Jar Binks (swimming)
3. Jar Jar Binks (scared face)
4. Jar Jar Binks General of Grand Gungan Army
5. Jar Jar Binks (numb tongue/mechanic)
6. Jar Jar Binks (Boonta Eve spectator)
7. Jar Jar Binks (Mos Espa market thief)
8. Jar Jar Binks (Kaadu Rider (mount SOLD SEPERATELY)
9. Jar Jar Binks (Behind the Scenes...alternate Ahmed Best head and limbs)
10. Jar Jar Binks (Sound chip includes "How Wude" "Meesa no think so!" "Meesa called Jar Jar Binks" "Go, Ani!")
11. Jar Jar Binks (Naboo Swamp aka...just some muddy deco he probably didn't have in the film)

 ;)

LAST DAY OF TRU SALE.  :( (unless the shelf tag was lying)

I missed the second and third deleted scene waves that arrived at TRU, I mean I missed the deleted scene characters. THe reships were there. Even Maul was hanging around for $5! I got Battle Droid and Naboo Royal Guard, since I never bothered to get them before (yeah, TPM wave just didn't interest me, the only character I got until now had been Dofine). I still find Naboo forces boring and of limited use and the new scale of Battle Droid is irritating, with only one per card, too (compared to the legends of past). Both are decent figures. Not sure I'd army build either one now since their discounted days are passing (?). I passed up Sidious, Maul, Voss and padawan Anakin...tempting but buying too many prequel characters sometimes burns me out on collecting.

Found a Gungan at Five Below, they put out another case finally, though someone beat me to some figures or they didn't put the whole case out. I gotta get more Gungans to guard Jabba, since I missed out on cheap Gamorreans.  :P

Iger is busy readying the machinery that will crank out Star Wars-related toys and theme park attractions and whatever Disney deems as appropriate franchise exploitation. He says he’s looking to expand sales of Star Wars merchandise overseas and that ABC and Lucasfilm are discussing a live-action TV series. At the same time, Iger says he doesn’t want to do anything that might detract from the upcoming movies. “I don’t want to overcommercialize or overhype this,” he says. “It’s my job to prevent that.”

Star Wars become overcommercialized or overhyped?! Perish the thought! Disney knows what they are doing, it's not like they put Mickey Mouse on everything... ;)
