Title: Disney 3.75" Scale First Order Short-Range Evacuation Vehicle Set
Post by: Jeff on December 4, 2019, 01:41 PM
Disney Parks Blog (https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2019/12/star-wars-rise-of-the-resistance-attraction-merchandise-coming-to-disney-parks-on-december-5/) announced a new Droid Factory Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Vehicle/Playset thingy.

No price yet, but it is set to hit the parks on December 5th (Florida) and January 17th (Disneyland).

Just watch them make the retail price $49.95. The ride video is posted in our Star Wars land thread.

If that's more than $25 or $30, it's crazy.

Oh, c'mon...$50 is the best case scenario here. It comes with an astro droid, don't those go for $20 by themselves?

Considering there are actually 2 vehicles in this set?  I'm thinking it's $59.99 at least.

A droid a sled and an escape pod...  I think $40-$60 is likely here unless the vehicle things are exceedingly simple.  That said, I want it.  I want two even. 🤷‍♂️

The official name for this thing is the First Order Short-Range Evacuation Vehicle with Fleet Transport and First Order R5 Droid. It looks like there are at least four different variations of the droid that comes with the set - Black droid with either white/gray, orange, red, or blue panel colors.

There are some pics in the Rebelscum Forums (https://forum.rebelscum.com/threads/star-wars-land-coming-to-disneyland-and-disneyworld.1122268/page-8#post-20231345).   I was surprised to see it was much larger than I was picturing.  Also sounds like it has full electronics - sounds and lights.

Thanks to a Yakface Tweet (https://twitter.com/yak_face/status/1202613900904140800) for the heads up.

Oh wow, I didn't realize there was that much more to it.  Not happy about this four droids business...

Per Yakface - $75

I wonder if people will start selling the droids to offset the vehicle cost.  I'd like to figure out how to get all four without buying 4 sets.

I’m probably gonna go for all 4...  be neat to find some kind of way to display them like they’re docked in the ship, and maybe make them a way to display FO troopers I have around them. 🤷‍♂️

If any of you guys want more than one of the vehicles, but don’t care about the droids, I’ll generously subsidize your extras!

Yeah, I'm not either.

I'm going to have a friend get me the White and Blue highlights droids versions since those are the most different from B-A-Ds we've gotten before, hopefully this item will stick around long enough to allow for me to get the other two, but there's no way I'm going to get four to keep MIB and four to open.

The Galaxy's Edge Build-a-Droid items finally "broke" me it seems - I got the color change droids, but only two of each set and two color change stations, and I've yet to open up any of them, and I probably won't and now with this item, I'll probably never open either of these two sets.  :-\

Got my White & Blue droid variations today - had my friend ship them opened up. Will probably get one more to keep MIB, but unless this set goes on deep clearance OR by the time we make it to Disney next November, they have them available for purchase with Passholder/DVC Member discount, I doubt I'll get more than that. I would much rather put the $75 towards a large size build-a-droid or extra kyber crystals for the lightsaber I plan on building.

The vehicle is cool - and the trackless vehicle piece fits even 5POA figures VERY well, but having four MIB sticking around in the collection is a tad bit absurd and even worse, having four open and the vehicles hanging around is even more absurd. I might even see if there's a way I can string up one of them to hang from the ceiling just so I don't have to dedicate shelf-space to two of them.

Another much have. Next time I hit DL, will easily spend more on droids than on a ticket to the park.  ;)

I bought one on eBay.  It retails for $75, IIRC.  The seller I found had it for $99, and after shipping it was $110.  The box was kind of beat up, but the vehicle and droid were in perfect condition.

Disney is on record that Galaxy's Edge merchandise will not be available outside the parks for "some time".

Of course, it could show up on ShopDisney randomly, but eBay (or harassing someone you know in CA or FL) is the only option for now.

Good point Paul....keep an eye out on who you are buying from.  Some of the prices are not worth it!

Thanks for the tips guys.

Last question for now... is this an accurate representation of the four droid variants?

I'm assuming it's right, and that the tan/orange one and red one are two different droids and not just poorly colored photographs of the same one...

Yes.  I've seen a total of 4 droid color schemes, and the images you posted are the same ones that I've seen before.

The one I got has the yellow markings.  The gold/tan is kind of like the old POTJ R2-Q5 color scheme.  As for the red and blue versions?  Those seem to be unique to the droids on the ride and these sets.

Having seen a bunch of the in-ride footage?  Each of these droids seems to be at the head of the transports that make their way through the Rise of the Resistance ride.  And if Disney keeps at it with figures sourced from the ride?  It would be cool to get a Nien Nunb or Lt. Beq, too.

Got my first...  red.  It’s cool.  $75 easy.  Buying 4 for minor paint variances on only the droid?  That’s gonna be hard.

I'm definitely liking how well put together the escape vehicle is.  And given Disney's commitment to this?  I would like to see if they would make the Resistance transport, too, along with Lt. Beq.

Second that totally... the lights and sounds are well done, the hangar transport is worth $20 itself to me, and if I can I’m hoping I can make some kind of wall mount to harbor the 4 pods like they’re stacked and ready to blast off.  Figure a $10-$12 figure, a $20 ish transport thing... And the main attraction with light and sound and such is around $40...  to me it’s reasonable it just is gonna hurt on the droid pilots buying 4.

Then again I’d rebuy the Starspeeder in light blue white and yellow probably because I’m dumb. 😑

Found a reliable reseller who frequents the Galaxy Edge shops.  He charges tax and a 20% mark-up for handling, packaging ect, but I don't mind paying a bit more and it ends up being less than Ebay.  I picked up the 6" 3-packs last week and am now getting the color change droid packs, the droid factory, Halloween BB-8, and one of these Evac sets.  $300 including shipping.  If anyone wants the contact, he can get pretty much anything in-stock at the park.  Just IM me for his info.

Finally got my hands on this set over the weekend thanks to the kindness of an awesome friend.  I ended up with the R5 with white highlights.

Really fun little ship/set.  I put four Black Series 3.75" First Order Stormtroopers in the escape cart and it made me snicker.  It looks like the droid is just giving a leisurely ride to some lazy troopers. :P

Wow - you went for all four - well done Rob. I still have only gotten Blue and White/Silver so far. I still need to acquire the Orange and Red ones.

I had hoped this item would have shown up on the Galaxy's Edge section added to the Shop Disney app, but oh well....

Yep.  It's taken over a year to pick them up, but I'm glad to be done.  This one-of-every-figure I've been doing for 25 years can be a real pain in the ass sometimes.   ;D

Fyi, this is available on the ShopDisney store as of this afternoon (Friday 4/2). I think there is a code for free shipping as well.

Edit: "FREESHIP" is the sitewide free shipping code at ShopDisney (ends tonight).

Great review Matt. I noticed the droid seems to pop out of his socket pretty easy too. Its a nicely done ship, hope these kind of things keep coming, and that they are available online (only get to go to Disney every few years).

A friend was nice enough to haul back a handful of park exclusives from his trip to Disney. I luckily did not ask him to bring back two of this; it's much larger than I thought and he would have blocked my number.

Was at WDW last week - was able to score the version with the Orange and Red markings on the black R5 droid to complete my set.

I used the "ship back to home" feature, I bought the ships over at the First Order Cargo store, and then took them over to Doc Ondar's and had them ship them home for me. We are DVC members so I was able to get the two ships for 20% off, which more than covered what Disney wanted to ship the two items back home.

They just arrived today and were well packaged. So I'm probably going to keep those two MIB (the Blue and White markings ones I got last year were shipped to me opened to save on shipping and packaging size).

Would be great if one day they released just a 4-pack of these four droids. I doubt that will ever happen, but based on the quantity of these on display at the First Order Cargo - I think they are almost sold through these.

Has anyone been to the parks recently?  I'm tempted to get another one of these.  I'm going later this year, and wonder if they might be available there or not.
