Kubricks / 2017 Medicom Toy Exhibition
« on: August 1, 2017, 11:38 PM »
The Medicom Toy Exhibition 2017 was 22-27 July and while the only Star Wars stuff presented were be@rbricks and the usual other things I have been keeping an eye on Instagram every few days to see if a carded Kubrick giveaway pops up. It doesn't matter how lacklustre last years was.

I was about to make a post asking is this the first year Medicom doesn't give away an exclusive to invitees, at the last second I though I'd have one more look, and I saw this:

So it's a Boba Fett be@rbrick on a card.....

An end of an era guys.

OMG Look what I found on Instagram!!

It's a giveaway at the toy exhibition, I'm looking for carded pics......

Ok, obviously I'm lying  :P Sorry, I made my own about 6 months ago and now seemed like the right time to post it if I was momentarily going to prank people for a couple of seconds into thinking it was legit. :D

Remember Kubricks?  *sigh*

Lol.

*Accidentally clicks on wrong bookmark, fatefully coincidently there's an update*

OMG TFA.....bea@rbricks.

Still, a nice surprise. I can also now extinguish any mild hope I had for any TFA Kubs.

I also see Medicom is doing various BvS and Suicide Squad be@rs. Long live be@rbricks I guess.

I hope I'm not creating competition for someone who was already planning on bidding on this but zero bids so far so I'd rather see someone here get it:

Hoth Rebel Trooper for $150

I have nothing to add about the above, but Medicom periodically do Star Wars be@rbricks like the recent Boba 1000% etc. But I'm curious to see if the go in to TFA territory with be@rbricks and Mafex, nothing announced yet, but can they pass up that sort of cash in?

Things I learnt today: Medicom are now doing xenomorph be@rbricks from Alien and Aliens. I think I may get the 100% be@r from Alien. I think the last be@rbrick I bought was the (edit: first) Wicket re-release two-pack (the exclusive one with Paploo).

Thanks.

I've been having all sorts of fun creating different rebel pilots in lego minifigure form, there's more helmet variation in the lego range, and I'd definitely like a Sacul to use as it's a more generic pilot helmet for some extra kubrick pilots but I can't justify it as far as the cost goes, let alone multiples.

Yeah I thought as much regarding Vader's cape. I imagine spirit Yoda and holo Maul's robes are of similar durability/thickness.

This in depth discussion about transparent robe durability, a phrase that has never been uttered in the history of the universe, got me distracted I was going to ask another question:

Is the helmet on the George Lucas Pilot (Jorg Sacul) carded kubrick stuck on or removable? I couldn't find a previous topic for this guy.

I forgot about the holo Maul, but I wouldn't imagine there would be an issue with the newer releases like Maul, it will be interesting to revisit in a few years.

JediJman - is the cape/s on holo Vader made of a similar plastic to the spirit kubs, or is it closer to the regular Vader kub?

Wow there hasn't been this much activity in here in ages.

Thanks I Am Sith and JediJman for the advice. I only want to remove the arms so I'll probably just go with the hairdryer method first,  in fact I might practice first on a cheap kubrick that can be easily replaced if damaged.

JediJman - I'm glad you where able to fix the problem.  I gave them a wash and dry a couple of times as mentioned and while they're not 100% better they're significantly better so I'm happy enough,  I'm not going to go to the extra hassle of removing the robes to clean underneath but it's good to know it's achievable.

I wonder how the ghost Yoda is fairing. I don't own one and I imagine most have remained on the card. I have no idea if it's made of the same material.

Edit: I just remembered they made a holo Leia and while I don't own it I remember the outer robe being a different material than the Anakin and Obi Wan. I also don't own the holo Vader from the exclusive 5-pack but I wonder what condition his cape is in?

A couple of comedians in here...

In regards to my above question I seem to recall iamsith doing some customs back in the day, I'm not sure if anyone has any knowledge on dismantling or breaking apart kubricks.

Now to the reason for my post, another question. Has anyone noticed the plastic of the outer robe of their Spirit of Obi Wan Kenobi deteriorating?

I was handling the kubrick recently and noticed the plastic of the robe was a bit tacky or sticky but the rest of the figure was fine. Being that the Spirit of Anakin is almost the exact same kubrick I checked that one too and it was in a similar condition. I has to be because of the softer plastic used and its translucentness, as opposed to the hard plastic of the translucent body and the solid plastic used on other kubricks which is fine.

I gave them a wash in warm soapy water and there's been an improvement.

Does anyone have any advice as to how to remove arms from Star Wars kubricks, particularly protocol droids? Please don't say get a Wookiee to do it  ;) They are fictional characters and not very helpful in real world scenarios  :P

I thought it would be easy to give it a bit of force (seriously these puns are not intended) but I don't want to destroy it and the shoulder cover gets in the way. Even playing around with the removable limbs shiny C-3PO which is supposed to come apart I had to remove the whole chest section and head.

Very minor the Force Awakens spoilers to follow.

I've wanted to make an episode 7 C-3PO for a little while now (since someone posted blurry pictures of some crappy merch with an image of C-3PO and R2 on it) but now after Comic Con I'm more comfortable mentioning it and wanted to try and put a R-3po arm on C-3po. I've even got a spare R-3po and half a dozen different C-3po's to do the job.

Over the weekend I picked up a few ebay scores.

I had an old ebay 'followed search' for R-3PO and one popped up for £6.99 + shipping. I've already got one from DX 2 but because it is a 1:12 I though why not, it's pretty cheap and it's one of my favourite kubricks.

I looked to see what else the seller had in the way of kubricks to combine shipping and they also had both A and B Cantina band members with instruments as a pair for £9.99 and the white pauldron sandtrooper chase from the same series for £7.99. I never made these particular kubricks my priority in the past because they can get a little bit pricey and are a bit harder to come by but at this price I pounced.

In USD terms:

R-3PO = $11.10
Sandtrooper = $12.70
Cantina Band = $15.90

Plus about £8 shipping. They seller is a UK comic dealer and may not normally deal in kubricks and hence not know prices and rarity.

I completely forgot this was happening, totally asleep at the wheel on this, thanks Jeff.

So this wasn't available to the public but a limited give away, right?

I'd be interested to know if anyone here is eager to track this down, not very original  :( but I'm sort of excited to see something new  :)

Well that iota of hope was shot down pretty quick.

If there was a carded exclusive they would have listed it with the rest.

Still, TFA December

Thanks for that.

I had a 50/50 chance at Veers and Tarkin and of course got it wrong.
