Celebration III: Indianapolis / Re: Star Wars Celebration 3
« on: May 3, 2004, 03:31 PM »
Got my room today, just about an hour ago or so.  Whee.

22037
It wasn't really viewed terribly negatively Vator, not by me (who pointed it out), but it was viewed as detrimental and not really constructive.  A basis to the decision I believe, that Chris and the staff here have made.

I'd like to take this moment to point out that if you DO have major disagreement with this decision, that it's not the other guy's fault so much as I am the one who's pushed for this "rule" more than anyone I think.

I believe the W&P thread, and any spin-offs frm it, have been major "problems" at Rebelscum for some time now.

It's not that the people here (or there for that matter) aren't mature enough to handle discussion of these topics, but rather that absolutely nothing good ever comes from them.  Nobody makes anyone change their mind once.  I've never seen that happen ever in any of those threads.

They simply breed hatred between opposing viewpoints, or at least a general dislike of each other, be it liberal vs. conservative, religious vs. atheist, etc...

A major point I've always made is that I have lots of very conservative/Republican friends.  My best friend whom I grew up with and went to Cub Scouts with even, is a die-hard Republican.  We fight if we discuss politics...  There's no way around it.  I'd do anything for the guy, but things get ugly if we discuss politics.

So, we make the MATURE decision NOT to discuss it...  We don't change each other's minds, so nothing positive is gained in an argument, so we don't discuss it.

Generally the W&P type discussions are discussed maturely overall, but that doesn't mean they are positive.  They do nothing but to breed ill-will among you guys, and that's not constructive here in the slightest as I see it.

I just spent a day hanging around Bill Cable and Bobafett14 at Pittsburgh's Toy Show & Comic-Con...  They're great guys, and I had a blast hanging around both of them, but I can safely tell you I agree with you most of the time (politically) Force Guy, and I disagree with Bob and Bill 90% of the time.

I had a blast with those guys today because I don't talk politics with them though.  They're both fun guys, great to hang around, and Bob's become a really nice friend to me...  Even if I truly dislike his political opinion.  I'm not gonna change it though, and he's not able to change mine, so why push each other apart debating a moot point between us?

Sure we can do it maturely, but it still fosters anymosity no matter how mature we both may be.  It does the same between yourself and members you debate with.

I think if it were Star Wars related (not that that should foster anymosity, but often it does...  Myself included), the site wouldn't take any measure because it's what we're here to discuss and disagree on.

These topics are so serious though, that the anymosity isn't simplistic, and it becomes deeper, and it ruins what otherwise is a strong harmony in the community...  If that makes sense.  I think that's our intent with the rule.  And we're just asking that you guys respect it, and if you really want to keep the discussions going then Rebelscum's got a whole thread devoted to it there, and they can deal with the consequences.  It's their problem, and one I feel they've negligently perpetuated, personally.

We won't though...  We want all you guys to get along as best you can, even if you disagree politically, and just avoid that stuff so you CAN get along as best you can.

You'll inevitably still disagree with each other about various things, but maybe to a lesser degree, and for other reasons that aren't as serious or "hurtful" in the long run, as they are in topics like War, Politics, or Religion, and the like...

Again, if you really are upset about this, don't be as upset at the rest of the staff here as much as you should be at me.  I pushed this a little harder than the rest did for certain.  I do not, however, disagree with the decision Chris ultimately made, and I feel it's entirely correct.

Have a good one Chris...

22039
I'm perplexed on if these are re-releases or "new" figure sculpts.

I'm hoping for the latter across the board though, and here's what I'd love to see...

-Veers...  Removable helmet, Removable armor, removable Kepi Officer's Cap, and if we're REAL lucky an officer's warbelt with working holster.  This figure would require dozens of purchases from me just for army building.  Perfect Imp. Officer builder right there.  Great!

-Gammorean Guard...  I like the original, but I'd take a new, more poseable one.  And idealy, one with a working holster, and a removable hat (for customizing of course).  That'd be some great figure right there.

-Bib Fortuna...  Definitely needs redone.  One of the top worst figures in the modern line left to be resculpted, IMO.  Ideal, again, would be him having a hidden blaster holster with a tiny pistol under his cloak...  I personally would like a softgoods Fortuna, but I know others wouldn't...  Still I'd take one if it were done well.

-Hoth Vader...  ???  Weird...  Snow on the shoes?  Then forget it.  I don't want that...  Holographic full scale Vader though?  Eh, I could stand it...  He's not really SEEN that way though, but I'd take him this way just for craps and giggles.  If he could kneel too, that'd be really neat.

Vader with Snow on his feet is gonna suck though.

That's what I'd like to see.  The Veers is my especially strong wish though.  That, to me, would be a great figure, and even better if it's decently articulated.  I'd go nuts for that figure, but I'm going to just not hold my breath at the moment.

GH.com's Swami seemed zealous to post that though, and why would they hold back the names of some more repacks if that was what they were gonna do, ya know?  Hmmm....

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: Theory on SA Clonetrooper
« on: May 1, 2004, 12:16 AM »
I think Hasbro's just crammed with less than free-thinkers.  They are only looking towards the classic trilogy push in the fall, and not focusing TOO much on prequals...

Hasbro's not commonly known for doing the obvious...

I do think they'll (hope perhaps is better than "think" on this one) use the SA body and just make new heads for variations of the figures.

E3-Clones...
Clone variants (colors for rank, or theater of operation from E3)
Clone Pilots (just make a new head again
etc...

Sounds like a logical plan to me, as you'd be cutting down your cost of mold tooling greatly.  The thing would barely have cost anything over the long-term use of the molds actually.  Can't argue much with that logic, but Hasbro somehow finds a way around that and increasing their costs.

Case in point, ALLLLLLL the other clones they made that are royal crap, up until the SA clone.  The 3-pack Clones, the Red Clone and his re-used body for variants, the Clone Pilot, the Biker Clone...

Why?  Save some $, do one mold, with possible head variants, and then just pump it out till you break the damn thing and if need be, remold it!  Less cost than all the molds to make all the other figures previously.

Again, Hasbro tends not to think so "obviously".

Saga '02-'04 / Re: TRU Naboo 4 Pack
« on: May 1, 2004, 12:09 AM »
To me, this set doesn't sound too bad, and considering the lack of Naboo junk for some time it's sort of welcome.

I mean, a Tarpals with Kaadu's always been a "base" custom people have done...  Simple legswap and some painting, so why not just pick one up from Hasbro if you can, ya know?  Sounds like a plan to me.

The Royal Guard I'm disinterested in, if only because the figure itself sorta sucks to me.  It's pre-posed, awkwardly sculpted...  I had little interest in it, and really the only good coming of it is if you DON'T have the figure and they don't change it.  If they do then people will still want the original really bad too.

The Gungan Soldier's cool...  Why not, ya know?  I have a few POTJ ones in a neat line fighting some BD's marching into combat...  Looks good, and I won't complain about adding another to the ranks.  I agree that if it's the Faamba pack-in that would rock.  I would like a little diversity and the figure's were near equal in quality anyway.

The BD is cool too...  I'd like it to be capable of standing without wilting over time though, like so many of them do.

Any extra accessories coming?  Hmmm...  Maybe the shoulder bag, and bi-ocular thing for the scout that were due out in the 2nd wave of Accessory sets will be packed in?  One can wish.

The only complaint I can come up with on this idea is that Naboo was dull overall.   :-\  Not exactly a winning moment in the saga, so a 4-pack loses some steps with me there, still this is a far better set than the last 2 at least, or 3 possibly even.

Conventions / Re: Pittsburgh Comic Con
« on: April 30, 2004, 02:14 PM »
Not that any of you give a rat's ass but Pittsburgh Comic-Con and their International Toy & Collectibles show is this weekend!  Yay!!!!!

Unfortunately I have finals next week so my time at the con(s) is going to be limited, as is my time with my local collecting group, but I'll manage I guess.  :(

It's always a big show, lots to do, and if you're a Dawn of the Dead fan it's a must attend since the original DotD was filmed right there where the Con is!

Wooooo!

So, if anyone's attending lemme know, though it appears nobody from here is *sigh*   ;)

Oh, and Jasmine St. Clair's gonna be there...  She's been, uh, rather "used" in her time.

Either Matt's as lazy as I generally am and doesn't wanna shave, or he's attempting to become a mountain man.

When you get that thing kicking Moses style, we want new images from hooters.

Of course, you could surprise us all and go with the Abe Lincoln/Amish thing too.

I visited now, and thankfully they did away with the scrolling...

Now I just despise the color scheme, and I'm somewhat peeved at the purging of the member #'s.  Not that it's a HUGE deal by any means, but it's insulting to do away with members who just aren't active and bump people up who AREN'T people who "were there" in the olden CSW days.

I was #1214 I think, and now i'm like in the 600's...  There's something wrong with taking the place of someone who WAS there before me, should he/she decide to return.  Then again, it may have been a necessity to clear out things there so benefit of the doubt and all.  Nonetheless, there's members there didn't deserve bumping up ahead of guys like Dax, Burn, etc...  Maybe just nostalgia on my part, and remembering when the site was a lot more fun because of the people who MADE things fun.

Just my three fiddy...

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: hyperspace is now the fan club
« on: April 29, 2004, 02:27 AM »
Eh, I dunno what to say personally.

I get Insider anyway because I genuinely like parts of it...  They've had decent "news" lately about collecting too, and some decent articles for the nerds that nitpick everything in a scene like myself.

I dont' have Hyperspace though, nor have wanted it as I think it sucks the sweat from a deadman that we should have to pay ANYTHING to Lucasfilm to view their website(s), considering the vast fortune they (they being Lucas) control and the very minimal ammount of $ that could possibly be bringing in for them.  Maybe I'm just underestimating it though?

Or maybe this whole thing is a tactic to force people to buy into it since I think the Fan Club DOES have a strong subscription base, and HS doesn't?  I dunno.

HS hasn't shown me anything to jump in and get it no matter what it's cost, so I'm a bit miffed that if I wanna get what I actually enjoy I now have to do so at an inflated price it would seem, and am forced to buy something I could give two ***** about.

Lucas has done one thing well since he stopped making good films.  He's learned how to piss HUGE masses of people off at once.  A skill I've not quite mastered.  I usually can only piss off 3 or 4 at a time.

I hopped in there before bed hoping they'd at least fixed the side-scroll that a lot of us are experiencing...  The end of every topic's cut off for me still and I have to scroll to see the thread in its entirety (like someone posted a damn large pic, but in EVERY thread)...

That's not fixed then, so now I wonder if they're going to bother or if this is how they want it?  I'm done there if that's the case.  I'm not pissing with scrolling in every topic I read for every reply I read.  Might fit some screens but not mine so F it.

Things are slow there too...  I think it's turning a LOT of the people that do participate away right now.

It's at least loading fast now...  Still, I wonder if the fixes are done, and this is it, or what?

22048
That's a good start JK,

The helmet's gonna be a tough one to paint, as I don't think there's any site with his emblems downloadable/printable.  :(  Too bad...  I'd swap out some of the emblems on Erik Scroeder's sheet in a heartbeat for a VARIETY of emblems instead.  Oh well...  Maybe that's needing to be updated?

Anyone?  Buehler?  Buehler?

My only suggestion is that the Fleet Trooper's head SUCKS.  I despise it, but only cuz of how it looks.

Why not go with as "similar" a head to the guy that plays Red Leader as possible?  There's a lot of heads out there to pick from...  It's a thought.

BTW, if anyone wants the larger pilots to fit in their X-Wing, there's a plastic stopper keeping the larger pilots from fitting.  It's easily removed with a Dremel tool though...  If smeone wants to open the Fuselage up and cut it away at least.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: oldy but goodies 12" customs
« on: April 28, 2004, 11:31 PM »
Hey Hasek (you're from out east in PA, correct?  May have seen you at the Summer Social if you were here last year),

It's nice to see another customizer hop aboard to breath some life into the forums (this section).  We are happy to have someone show off their work.

I can't say I'm into 12" stuff myself so I'm not as good at critiquing it for sure.  Your figures look great to me though...  Especially Aylya Secura, which looks spot-on to me.

I'm getting the same message you are right now Bill.

I can safely say that if some of the MAJOR things aren't worked out (the horozontal scrolling, page load time, etc.) then I'm dumping Scum from my visitation list all together.  The conversation has been on the downward slope since Saga started really...  I rather enjoyed their previous look better, so I'm torn.  The graphics I can stomach, and smilies aren't important to me anyway, but the load time and side-scroll are obnoxious to me.
