The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Your Favorite Jedi?
« on: August 11, 2009, 11:11 PM »
I can't think of anyone I like better than Kit Fisto.  Plo Koon, Aayla, and Coleman Trebor would be up there as well.

Outside of the flicks, Mara Jade, Ganner, Corran Horn, and Saba Sebatyne would be my faves.  Saba in particular is always a character I look forward to reading more about between her hunting skills and sometimes comical cultural differences from humans.

I would have liked to see the "capture" of Palpatine by the Separatists.  The Clone WArs Animated series showed this - think of how cool those scenese would have been with live action!

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Who's Your Favorite Prequel-Era Villain?

I don't really like any of the baddies in the prequels all that much.  I would have to go with Jango Fett if anyone.  If we're going much further back (say a thousand years or so) I would definitely have to go with Darth Bane.  Very logical, passionate, and driven in his approach to mastering the dark side.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Is Yoda a coward?

Hmmn...another good question Mike.  I never really thought about that before, but I'm going to guess it was at least a week or two.  Months seems like a more realistic answer, but it sure doesn't seem like the Falcon is hobbling along for months.  I could believe a week, maybe two given they all have the same outfits and look the same from the asteroid to Lando's pad.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Anakin vs. Sidious
« on: August 11, 2009, 11:00 PM »
I don't think Anakin could have defeated Palpatine. Although Lucas said Anakin could have done it were he not defeated by Obi-Wan on Mustafar, it's somewhat confusing. Think about it. Yoda couldn't do it. Only Mace Windu could have (as he almost did until Anakin decided to give Palpatine a hand; no pun intended), and does Anakin look like he can defeat Windu in a duel? He couldn't even defeat Obi-Wan at first. AND when he did defeat Obi-Wan, it was because Obi gave himself up to the Force.

Anakin could not have taken Palpatine.  Anakin had raw power, but he didn't necessarily know how to tap into it the way Palpatine and Yoda and maybe even Mace could.  I think Mace truly had Palpatine on the edge of defeat - Anakin for all his prowess couldn't have taken either of them at that stage.  The fact that Obi-Wan took him down shows that he wasn't as skilled as he thought (I think its a given that Yoda could beat Obi-Wan in a duel).

Some of the novels on the Sith suggest that they build power by feeding off misery and sorrow.  At one point, Darth Bane is dying from poison and kills three children in front of their father to regain his strength and keep the poison at bay.  I think the only reason Yoda lost to Palpatine is that he was feeding off all the misery and fear of those around him - maybe off of Yoda himself given Yoda's realization that all the Jedi including younglings had been slaughtered.

As for edler Obi-Wan from ANH, Vader was going to win that fight.  Obi-Wan just made a choice of when to end it, but had he kept fighting he surely would have lost.

I think MP has a valid point here.  What exactly was Yoda waiting for for 20 years?  If he was waiting to learn how to ascend to a higher plane, how the heck was that ever going to help overthrow the Emperor?  His spirit would be no better at training than his flesh would be.  And yeah, it would be hard to seek out other Jedi, but Vader sought out and found scores of hidden Jedi after the initial purge, so its obviously not impossible.  How about continuing to look for infants and train them?  The guy is in full excile away from other sentients out of communication - sure doesn't seem like there is a plan there.  And I agree that he didn't want to train Luke (or Leia) especially later on for fear of creating an even stronger Sith given the experience with Anakin.

For that matter, why doesn't Obi-Wan take a more active role in training Luke?  He's living nearby and obviously keeping an eye on him, but makes no move to train him in the ways of the force until he's older?  I thought the key downfall of Anakin was that he had already learned emotional attachment by the time they decided to train him and his fear of loss drove him to the dark side...sure doesn't seem like Obi-Wan was doing much to prevent that from happening again.

Personally, I think Yoda went into exile because he was shamed and defeated.  He led the Jedi and they were all killed off.  He got the wool pulled over his eyes and lost all his buddies, then got beaten by a Sith Lord in combat - a sith lord with some pretty massive resources now at his disposal.  I think Yoda took the blame and isolated himself to escape.  It's only thru Obi-Wan's direction and influence that Luke makes it there to get trained.  I also think Obi-Wan intended to train Luke (or maybe even Leia) all along, but was hindered somehow.  Owen calls him a crazy old hermit in ANH - maybe Owen and Beru forbid it and all Obi could do was wait and watch.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Wal-Mart Droid Factory Sets
« on: August 11, 2009, 06:49 PM »
I had to hit 3 different stores to get my sets and that was with help from others on the boards. At 2 of the three locations, I had a sales guy look up item count at their store and other stores (just look for a guy with the hand held scanner and give him any one of the UPC codes - they can tell you how many are in stock at neighboring stores).  Both of the guys that looked them up said they were flagged "Do Not Replenish" which means that's all they are getting.  These are expensive, but if you want them I would try to grab them ASAP.

I think you got the better one. The 2nd one you listed has turned yellow on the torso, the one you got looks way better.  ;)

Still, that's a nice grab for $72.   :P

The Legacy Collection / Re: Legacy Collection Comic Packs
« on: August 11, 2009, 01:41 PM »
I cracked open the three new Comic-Packs last night. The only one out of the six figures I'm really happy to have is Sigal Dare. The rest, I'm sure I'll get some affection for once I read the included comics. Well done figures though.

DA - did you find these at Target or Wal-Mart?

I broke down and ordered two of them at $8 each.  I was hoping to hold out for the free sale, but all the talk of these selling thru has me worried.   :-\

I think its just the lighting difference in the first photo that makes it look a little different.  Thanks for the pics Jay - different enough for me to get them both.   ;)

My EB Chewie came in the mail yesterday. Cute little devil.

Nice!  Any difference between this one and the Wonderfest Chewie?

I am trying to hold out for the spend $30 and get a Ponds free deal later in September.  I agree with you - the price on many of these exclusives is just plain out of hand.  Look at how pretty much all of it ends up on clearance eventually:

- Distrurbance at Lars Homestead
- Lava Vader and Anakin
- Joker Squad
- Clone Wars Senate Guard
- Target Exclusive Battle Packs (Obi & Yoda)
- Hobbie and TIE Fighter exclusive
- Battlegrounds Multi-packs
- TRU B-wing Fighter and Pilot

Even Target's Ultimate Battle Packs were clearanced off.  If you're patient, you can get reasonable prices on this stuff eventually.  I'm a hard core completist, but frankly I'm to the point of feeling ripped off for these.  It's bad enough you have to seek out a specific retailer that may not be convenient where you live, but then to ask for a 50% or greater mark-up is just ridiculous.   >:(
