30th Anniversary Collection / Re: Target TFU Battle Rancor

No iFett, it's a completely different sculpt...

Wow that's good news - I figured there were at least some parts re-used in there. The arms I know are different. The head looked a bit better too, so that should have been my #1 clue that this was an all new sculpt.

Kudos to Hasbro for not just re-painting the old POTF2 one for this exclusive.

According to the Hasbro presentation slides, the Thrawn/Talon Karrde & Leia/Xizor sets are to be released in September.

They did not have the White Vader/Leia ROTJ Infinities set in the presentation, so I'm not sure when that one is being released. Considering the August wave of Comic 2-packs includes the Hoth Leia/Tobbi Dala set, my guess is that the White Vader/Leia does have a chance of coming with the Durge/Anakin and Ventress/Tol Skorr wave simply because waves are typically either three or four sets, and so far that wave only has two entries and I doubt we'll ever see two Leias in any one wave.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Wal Mart Droid Factory Sets

There was an R-3PO released before? What line was that part of?

SAGA 2004.

Thanks - I completely forgot about that figure. I really need to get my carded collection out and displayed instead of in boxes.

Are the sitting pit droids any different from their standing counterparts?  i.e. as an opener, should I be concerned about these?

Yes, they are different. This is why it would have been better if Hasbro had just included both sculpts in the same package from the get-go.

Is that a blue jaw-bone type weapon that the Felucian warrior comes with? That would be kinda cool if everything about them was organic, even their weapons.

Here's what I think you can add:

Star Wars Legends
Commander Neyo
Covert Ops Clone Trooper
Shadow Stormtrooper
Utapau Shadow Trooper
Zev Senesca
Pit Droids (white, sitting, accessory 2)
Pit Droids (red, sitting, accesory 2)
Pit Droids (orange, sitting, accessory 2)
Sandtrooper v3 (clean, black pauldron, TSC body)
Sandtrooper v6 (dirty, white pauldron, Evolutions body)
501st Clone Trooper (SA mold)

Evolutions
Darth Vader Secret Apprentice

The Force Unleashed (game release day promotional items, exclusive to WalMart)
Darth Vader w/2 Inferno Troopers
Darth Sidious w/2 Shadow Troopers

Battle Packs
Attack on Kashyyyk from TFU (Target exclusive, 3/23)
Hoth Patrol w/Luke, Wampa & Taun-taun (TRU exclusive, May)
STAP Patrol w/2 STAPs and 1 Silver SBD (TRU exclsive, May)

Comic 2-Packs (the second WalMart Wave, set to come out 7/1)
Lando/Stormtrooper
Wookie/BARC Trooper
Anakin/Dooku

Droid Factory 2-packs (exclusive to WalMart are set to hit in the beginning of July)
Darth Vader/K-3PX
Luke Skywalker/R2-D2 w/Blast Damage
Hoth Han Solo/R-3PO
Plo Koon/R4-F5
Kit Fisto/R4-H5
Watto/R2-T0

For a lot of these, I'm basically assuming that anything that comes in packaging that is white Star Wars lettering/logo on a black background OR comes out before 7/26 is still part of TAC. The Droid Factory 2-packs are hexagonal in shape instead of a tube, but the artwork inside is still more akin to TAC than the Legacy Collection. Same thing is true for the two 3-packs WalMart will have for The Force Unleashed on the day that game hits stores. I'm assuming that the second WalMart wave of comic 2-packs will be in the current packaging style only because they are coming out before 7/26. If they are moved to coming out at the same time as the other stuff, I could see the packaging for those changing over to being more in keeping with the Legacy Collection.

Passing on these, save for a few that might be decent custom fodder... Grievous actually might be the only one I get.  He looks pretty damn huge, though I hate his shoulders.  Might try to mod them... we'll see.

Is it even worth it? I could see Hasbro re-using several of the parts in this figure to make a movie-style version of the character at some point down the line anyway.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: More Wal-Mart Exclusive Comic Packs
« on: February 18, 2008, 11:27 AM »
Lando does have that Matador swashbuckling vibe going on with the red cape.....he may be worth picking up after all.

I will get the Wookie just to have more in the army but I really will pass on the other 2. Wal-Mart exclusives disappear so quick and you usually do not get a second stab at them in store but I have no doubt I do not want them.

The Droid Factory series is going to be a bitch to track down......

Well, for me if it wasn't for Walmart.com, I wouldn't have been able to score all of the first wave of WM exclusive comic 2packs. I'm not going to do site-to-store with them again 'cause they put a big sticker on the back of them, so if I have to for both this wave of Comic 2-packs and the Droid Factory sets, I'll order them online and have them shipped directly to my house.

However, something tells me that with all of these exclusives that WM is getting, Hasbro has convinced them to set up a pretty big Clone Wars section this summer. I'm sure the theatrical release of the cartoon really helped with things in that regard.

Like all things, I'm sure the airing of additional seasons will be dependant on how well the show does in the ratings.

However, you can't swing a dead cat and not hit at least five or six really BAD shows on Cartoon Network, so a channel like that would be really incredibly STUPID to just not keep it going as long as they possibly could. I could see TNT dropping it at some point, but never Cartoon Network.

So if GL is planning 100 episodes, I'm sure we'll get them. Besides, Warner Bros. has the DVD contract as well. Even if people stop watching the show on TV, there will be lots of fans looking to buy the 100 episodes on DVD.

I wouldn't say those comic figures look like their art too much...  I thought Karrde was outstanding and realistic...  Xixor I thought looked less like the art and more realistic actually...  I was pleased in general.

I agree, if anything they look closer to the photographs from the CCG than they do to the artwork.

I think we're fine with regards to the regular line staying in the style it's in.

I'm also not overly concerned with the Clone Wars style spilling over into the regular line because all it will take is for the realistic line to sell well and the animated line to sell poorly for Hasbro to realize that changing the style is a big "no no" and this will be the last time they do it.

Perhaps Zizzle will show Hasbro the error of their ways before we even get too far along - I was in Target the other day and saw multiple pegs CLOGGED with this new animated style Pirates of the Caribbean figure line. Why they think a Pirates line is still even viable is beyond me, but this style change will be the final nail in the coffin of that line as well.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Anakin's Clone Wars Jedi Starfighter
« on: February 18, 2008, 12:58 AM »
Yeah - I think this Yellow JSF is yet another modified Delta 7 only this time, Anakin has modified it so the Astromech is a socketed feature as opposed to a built-in droid. This way, he can have R2 (as gifted to him by his wife) join him. Plus, as Sal points out, the colors are in line with his ROTS starfighter.

Good to hear that they will eventually make one. Only problem now is that the Anakin they've made for the series doesn't exactly look poseable enough to sit in the cockpit.

I am really surprised that they didn't paint this one up differently for this release - it looks almost identical to the POTF2 version. Which isn't a bad thing really, the paint op even back then was pretty good.

Ok - the comparison really helps.

If it's a completely new body then great! I'm all for it.

However, there is the bigger problem (no pun intended) - that Ten's a bit too tall for his race. But that's minor if it means we're going to get a red version of him with a human head at some point down the line.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Will Droids become the new Clones?
« on: February 17, 2008, 11:30 PM »
I'm stoked for C-3PX and K-3PX though.

Yeah - the K-3PX that comes with Vader looks really cool. I guess the Shadow Protocol Droid is going to kinda come to pass with the release of this figure, but I'm okay with it since it looks like it has a unique head and torso sculpt with slightly modified arms and legs from 4-LOM and for me that's enough "new" about him to warrant a new figure.
