Original Trilogy Collection / TRU Naboo 4-pack
« on: July 21, 2004, 10:36 PM »
Info coming in from Comic-Con...

Looks like this set will include a kit-bashed Kaduu w/feathery saddle, kitbashed articulated knees Tarpals, Gungan warrior with minor paint changes, PotJ Security Battle Droid in neutral color, and Naboo Royal Guard with minor paint deco changes!

I think I'll have to grab this one for the new Kaduu w/Tarpals and the army-building figures that it offers... repacks I finally agree with!

Original Trilogy Collection / Coruscant Wave
« on: July 20, 2004, 04:58 PM »
Well,

I thought I'd start a thread here in hopes of seeing these guys at SDCC this week...

The GH Swami and a few others have forseen that the first wave after the 38 OTC repacks will be the Coruscant wave: Pablo Jill (Jedi), Sly Moore (Palpy's Aide), and Senator Yarua (Wookiee Senator).

I think that, perhaps, the forthcoming Coruscant wave may have accidently been confirmed, as reports are coming in that the latest issue of the SW Insider has this to say:

"since we never saw Sly's hands in Episode II, Hasbro was set to give her birdlike talons in an exercise of creative license. However, this was nicked just in case her hands are visible in Episode III."

Hmmm...

Let's hope we find out more from SDCC!

Original Trilogy Collection / OTC Wal-Mart Exclusive Carry Cases
« on: July 13, 2004, 10:30 AM »
Seems like it.

Hasbro announced today that they'll be showing off Wal-Mart exclusive C-3PO and Darth Vader carry cases at this year's SDCC booth.

Yea!   More re-hashed goodness!  ::)

Once upon a time, the GH Seer, The Swami, predicted these may come with a figure as well, but no official confirmation on that.

Anyone gonna actually buy these?

Not me... unless they do have pack-ins which are new, but somehow I highly doubt that.  :(

JD Sports Forum! / GI Joe and Baseball

Saw this in the paper this morning and wondered what you guys and gals thought...

Twins' G.I. Joe giveaway criticized

Basically, The Minnesota Twins will be giving away an exclusive GI Joe action figure (Duke) painted up with the Team's colors.  These will be given to the first 5000 kids (13 and under) who attend a game this weekend.

It was supposed to be a patriotic move for the 4th of July, GI Joe, Apple Pie and Baseball, but all the crazies have come out of the wood-work saying that GI Joe has no place at the ballpark.

Are the Minnesota Twins sponsoring a war-drive by giving these away to kids?  Or were the Twins just trynig to give away a cool TOY to kids to celebrate the 4th of July?

I am pretty sure that the Twins had NO intention to recruit for the military OR support any particular War with this give-away.  I think they were just trying to give a cool patriotic toy to kids and it seems to be back-firing in their face.  I don't really think that having a GI Joe as a kid will automatically make you a war monger as some of these people seem to think.

Anyone else have thoughts?  Does GI Joe belong at the ballpark or is it an atrocity?

Hiya,

GalacticHunter.com has a cool feature on the Endor Ambush set... but of course, since the set is full o'lame re-packs, the interesting part is the new OTC insert!

Check out the GH.com coverage here for the Endor Ambush stuff or clicky on the picture below for the Insert goodies:

Nice to see the little package catalogs return!

Watto's Junk Yard / Has Anyone Built a Deck Before?
« on: June 16, 2004, 04:45 PM »
Hiya Guys Gals (I know there are 1-2 of you females out there),

Summer is here in full effect and we are ready to get rolling on our big summer project:
We are attempting to add a deck onto our house this summer.

We started out in May (the five days it didn't rain) by preparing the ground/landscaping around the house:  moving trees/bushes/shrubs, building a new garden, pulling out some old hostas, etc.  Now that the area along the house and yard have been landscaped for the deck, it's time to actually start building the dang thing, and the more I learn about it, the more daunting a task it is appearing to be.

I've got my plans (thanks Home Depot!) and building permit in hand, and the raw materials will be delivered this weekend.  We've also rented up some power equipment this weekend to help us dig the 42" deep holes in my yard this weekend...

Anyone got some helpful tips for digging post holes?
Anyone out there in JD land ever built a deck before?
Any helpful tips that you can offer up to a Novice Deck Craftsman such as myself?
(sarcastic "don't nail your hand to the deck" comments are not needed, but fully expected from you turkeys)  :P

I realize that we're all SW dorks, therefore the stereotype indicates that we aren't exactly outdoor-builder type craftsman, but I don't believe in stereotypes, so I'd like to think that SOMEONE else has gone through this before...

 ;)

Hall of Justice / DC Pocket Heroes
« on: April 15, 2004, 04:01 PM »
Anyone else collect these?

I do, and I love them.  Sure, they're hard to stand up, they tip over easy, etc. but I really love them.  Great character selection so far.

I finally got a chance to get to the comics book store last night and pick up my Green Lantern box set:
Green Lantern (John Stewart)
Jade
Sentinel (Alan Scott)
Guy Gardner (Yellow Ring)
Green Lantern (Kyle - original duds)
Parallax (Hal Jordan)

I'm a big fan of the Silver Age GLC, so I was pretty stoked to pick this one up.  They look nice with my GL (Guy), GL (Hal), GL (Kyle - new duds), Sinestro, and Guardian.

Anyone else have a craving for DC's Pocket Heroes?

Or am I the only crazy person who buys these...

Toy Reviews / Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Starfighter
« on: November 13, 2003, 12:10 PM »
Hi All,

I picked up Anakin's Starfighter last night at Target.

I wasn't sure I was gonna buy it, but the first few episodes of the cartoon convinced me I needed to have it.

Features:
VTOL Thruster: Positionable rear thruster for verticle take off/landing.  Goofy feature, but at least Anakins's Starfigher is a little unique here.

Positionable lasers:  Four paser cannnons, the two on the underside of the ship have a swing down feature that gives it almost a x-wing quality

Swing Wings:  Another feature stolen from US military aircraft, the wings (wingtips?) are positionable for either "attack" or "flight" mode.

Proton Torpedo:  Neifty little launch feature, you turn his Astromech's head to launch the missile.  Neat play-feature.

Drawbacks:
(big surprise here) - Clone Wars Anakin, you know the PILOT of this vehicle DOESN'T Fit in the cockpit!  No surprise with E2 vehicles having similar "features".   Ani's stance is too wide, his skirt too infexible, his Arms/sleeves too poofy!  I tried to cram him in there and it could be done, but only with potential damage to the figure (loosening/cracked joints)

On the plus side, I was able to get the Secret Ceremony Anakin (minus the cloak) into the pilot seat with much less difficulty (and the headband fits on him too, so there is a viable alternative.

Overall, I din't like the look of the toy at first, but with the cartoon and first hand "play experience" I can honestly say I am glad I bought it.

I give it a B+

Not the greatest vehicle, but a unique interpretation of the Jedi Starfighter...

"I don't remember reading about this one, but I was actually
looking for the second series of clone wars figures from the
cartoon this morning and ran accross a couple of cases of
the series 1 that had all the Arc Troopers repainted in red."

Will there be more down the road?
