Well of the Souls / Re: Hasbro 2023 Indiana Jones Retro Collection
« on: August 3, 2023, 12:02 PM »
WTH????

Last week I caved - I tried to buy the retro collection Henry Jones Sr, but it was register locked so I couldn’t buy it.  Went to Target this morning and saw him again along with the Last Crusade Sallah and was surprised to see them priced differently.  Senior was $14.99 and Sallah was $11.99.  Why?!?!

Got these both from a Target pre-order this week.  They were priced differently online too.

I got the same email and ended up changing my payment to a regular Visa.  The Red Card discounts stayed in place though.

Got a weird email from Target this morning saying they’re holding my order for this but that I need to update my payment.  When I go into the app, it’s got no release date listed, and is being paid for by my perfectly good Red Card.  I guess I’ll have to call them.

Have any of guy guys seen this before?

No.   That sounds like some kind of scam.

I think the price, size, and timing of this item might create a bit of a challenge in having huge numbers backing it like The Razor Crest did.  I really don't think we're going to hit all the unlocks on this one and hope they find a way to include Zeb even if we don't make it that far.

Yes.  That looks good.  I'd like to put more clever thought in to it but it'll just get me grumpy because Hasbro has really struggled in this area.

This is awesome!

I’d love to see a ton of these series.  Lando.  Solo. Qi’ra Black Sun.

Pre Vizsla is a new build, but he does share parts from some of the recent TVC mando figures from TCW.  I guess he is more of a kit-bash/partial new figure in that sense than "all-new'.

Darth Revan is all-new according to Hasbro.  There could be some parts sharing in there (like the legs under the robes might be re-used) but they claim it is new.

Thanks.  Looks like I waited too long and Amazon and Pulse are both pre-sold out.

...Slight grumbling that they've decided to spend new development resources on figures we already kind of have - so many interesting unmade figures (especially from Andor) that they could make.

I don't have my old Pre Vizsla and Darth Revan handy.  Are these TVC versions all new, or mostly new, or just straight reissues of what we've bought before.

Have you guys assessed how new they are?

This seems like an odd thing to have at Disney.  It seems random for collectors and you would think it would be a Pulse or EE exclusive.

They could certainly cut a few sections out to save a few bucks.  Sure I'd spend $1000 on the mega set, but I'd prefer if they scaled it back a bit to something in the $400-600 range, or made it modular so you could buy it in chunks over a few years.

Too bad they didn't do a multi-pack of Chewie and his family

I'd love to see a playset with modularity to it so people can choose to go broad, or longer and narrower.  Something like a Death Star or Ewok Village would be great.  Finding a shelf large enough for The Ghost is going to be a challenge.  I've got 18 months to figure it out, but right now I'm not sure where to put it.

Agreed that they don't need to do a TVC HasLab on an annual basis.  But I also don't believe they should be doing SW HasLab annually either, especially if they don't have good ideas that are likely to fund from other areas of SW collecting.

Doing an every other year HasLab TVC would be great as far as I'm concerned.  And they don't have to be $500.  Maybe a HasLab every other year and a direct to market on the odd years would be great.

There are plenty of good ideas that could fill the next decade.

After a third successful 3.75" scaled Star Wars HasLab, what do you think Hasbro does next?

- do they get bolder with big money non HasLab things (like the $230 Throne Room playset) and offer a few more direct to Pulse?
- do they go right back to the HasLab well with another 3.75" SW next year?
- do they give non-3.75" SW another HasLab try?  And if so, what do you pick that is popular enough for what it'll cost?

I don't really understand the calculus they use(d) to decide what goes the route of HasLab and what goes straight to market (e.g. BoBF Throne Room).

I think a Death Star, if its done in affordable modular bits, would be a no brainer for a direct to market item.  It they wanted to do a fully integrated big ass expensive playset they could always go HasLab.  I'm just not sure anyone at Hasbro has the balls to make bets anymore on something without HasLab to backstop their decision making process.

I honestly think they should just stick with 3.75" things.  There are plenty of cool things they could do and there is no reason to deviate.

The Rancor might have worked if they provided more value from the get go, but by the time they tried to recover from their disastrous rollout it was too late.

All of the 3.75" items funded without much effort.  Keep it simple and keep making TVC items we want.

Old man 3.75" collectors win again.  It only took about ~91 hours for 3.75" nerds to pony up $4million dollars.  $4,000,000 dollars.

That is incredible if you stop and think about it.  Bring on a HasLab Mos Eisley Cantina next!

I hope somebody at Hasbro finally is getting a clue.  TVC works for haslab projects.  Everything else has failed.  Just stick with TVC.
