Saga Collection '06 / Bare Pegs
« on: March 6, 2006, 04:33 PM »
It seems like everytime I go to Target theres always bare basic figure pegs. The other pegs are overflowing with battle packs, titanium, GH, FB, but no basic figures. Why is this? Have the scalpers, after being extinct for a 1000 years, reared their ugly mugs in the collecting world? Am I the only one who is expericning this plague of bare pegs??

The Prequel Trilogy / Equipment Of The Republic And Empire
« on: March 4, 2006, 08:57 PM »
Shortly after I finished my Vehicles thread (For the most part) I thought to myself, "Why not go for the gusto and round off the trio?" So here goes The Equipment Of The Republic And Empire.

Republic DC-15:

The Republic DC-15 was used by Clone Troopers and Republic Officers alike. It was a sturdy, reliable weapon and could take out a Super Battle Droid from 200 meters away. Its scope could be flipped up to make the DC-15 a makeshift sniper rifle, or flipped down to be used as a handgrip for the trooper.

Republic Smaller DC-15:

A gun that became increasingly popular as the war went on, during the end of the war most Clone Troopers favored this over the larger DC-15, which was found to be at times too cumbersome. This smaller DC-15 had just about the same power, was smaller and easy to hold, and was slightly more durable. ARC Troopers like using this weapon in pairs.

Republic DC-17:

Almost used exclusivley by Clone Commandos, the DC-17 was a powerful weapon. It could allow for a variety of attachments to be put on it, such as a sniper and anti-armor attachments.

Reciprocating Quad Gun:

This large blaster was extremley powerful, and had to get its power from a backpack that the user wore. It was used almost exclusivley by ARC Troopers with special armor, including a HUD. Because of this expensive suit, and because the weapon was in fact experimental, it was rarely seen in combat.

Z-6 Rotary Blaster Cannon:

This powerful gun saw limited use during the Clone Wars, although it was very effective. It was used only on high-risk, high-profile missions, and was excellent at clearing large areas of droids.

Republic "PLEX" Missile Launcher:

This heavy missile launcher was used mainly by ARC Troopers and standard Clone Troopers. A single rocket could destroy a droideka or cripple a tank droid. One clip held two rockets.

OLT-19 Sniper Rifle:

Used by both the Republic and the later Galactic Empire, this was a powerful rifle, useful for picking off the pilots of open air craft. One clip held 6 rounds.

HX2 Antipersonnel Mine:

Useful for blowing up CIS Installations, the landmine was used heavily during the Clone Wars. Its most famous use was during the Battle Of Muunilist, when ARC Trooper Fordo blew up the CIS Heavy Gun Battery using these.

Fusion Cutter:

Originally used by smugglers and mechanics, the Clone Wars and the later Galactic Civil War turned the fusion cutter into a battlefield neccesity. It was mainly used by Clone and Imperial Engineers to quickly repair droids and other technology.

A New Order:

During the 20-year period when Obi-Wan watched over Luke, the Empire replaced their old equipment with better, stronger ones.

Imperial E-11:

A strong, powerful, and durable blaster, the E-11 was used by all the types of Imperials, including Stormtroopers, Combat Gunners, Crewman, and Officers. It had a scope on the top for accurate shooting.

MiniMag PTL Missile Launcher:

While cruder than the Republic PLEX Missile Launcher, The PTL was still a formidable weapon nonetheless. Alliance Pilots learned to fear this weapon during the Galactic Civil War and the Thrawn Crisis.

Imperial T-1 Light Repeater:

Used by all types of Imperial Troopers, but mainly Sandtroopers, the T-1 was a powerful antipersonnel weapon.

Scout Trooper Pistol:

This small yet suprisingly powerful pistol was favored by Scout Troopers. The main reason is because it was easy to fire while riding the speeder bike.

Comlink:

Used mainly by Sandtroopers, Stormtroopers, and Officers, the comlink was a cheap tool for communicating with each other. This Imperial Comlink has a greater range, due to it being a military item.

Imperial Holocam:

The holocam, essentially a crude droid, was used in military installations such as the Death Star, to watch for intruders. During the Great Jedi Purge, Mobile Holocams were assigned to track down Jedi Fugitives.

Thermal Detonator:

Favored by Imperial Storm Commandos, the Thermal Detonator is a high-powered grenade, capable of disintigrating all life forms within a 8-foot radius. As such, these were outlawed on many worlds.

Electrobinoculars:

Whenever the Empire needed to scout out a Rebel base or scan the battlefield, they used Electrobinoculars. Binocs can link up to blasters for long range attacks, a strategy the Empire used to their advantage. They are powered by a rechargeble power cell.

E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster:

This was used heavily during the Galactic Civil War. The gun connected to a large battery through a power cord to power up this large gun. When Imperial Troops overran Echo Base, the Imperials used the E-Web to their advantage.

Turbolaser:

On both Death Stars sat these powerful examples of Imperial warfare-Turbolasers. Capable of annihilating a Rebel ship, these were much feared and respected in the ranks of the Alliance. They were usually manned by a crew of 20, a mix of Stormtroopers and Combat Gunners, inside the turbolaser. Imperial Turbolasers also guarded Imperial Outposts and Bases, such as Carida.

Imperial Superlaser:

An example of Imperial Philosophy, the Imperial Superlaser was the pride of the Empire. It had the power to destroy an entire planet, and the superlaser on the Death Star II could fire frequently, whereas the original one had to recharge for about an hour before firing again. During the Battle Of Endor, the Imperial Superlaser II decimated many key Rebel flagships, such as the Liberty.

Tractor Beam:

A tractor beam is an invisible beam that pulls ships or other objects closer to the ship with the beam. Star Destroyers and Death Stars have multiple tractor beam generators, and even some versions of the standard TIE Fighter have weak tractor beams.

The Prequel Trilogy / Vehicles Of The Republic And Empire
« on: March 4, 2006, 12:53 PM »
Well, since Clone Commander is doing an article on the troopers of the Republic and Empire, why not complement it with a Vehicles thread? I'll start with Republic Ships.

BARC Speeder:

BARC Speeders were speedy, light craft used by Republic forces on various battlefields during the Clone Wars. They were equipped with two dual blaster cannons, and sometimes, but not often, a single grenade launcher.

V-19 Torrent Starfighter:

V-19s were fast, agile craft used by the Republic in the Clone Wars. They were not available during the opening battle of the Clone Wars, Geonosis, as the Clone Pilots had not been trained enough to fly the V-19s during the Battle Of Geonosis.

LAAT Republic Gunship:

These hulking troop carriers debuted on Geonosis, the opening battle of the Clone Wars. They were a welcome sight to wounded Clone Troopers, and there was also a version of the LAAT that could hold and drop off AT-TEs into battle. They had many blaster cannons and a payload of missiles.

AT-TE:

The AT-TE was a dreaded sight to CIS Forces, and for good reason. This huge behemoth could simply crush CIS forces, or devastate CIS Vehicles with its many missles and blaster cannons. The AT-TE had thick armor plating and storage for troopers and supplies.

V-Wing:

V-Wings were developed later in the Clone Wars. They had incredible speed, blaster cannons and missile and grenade launchers. When Palpatine declared Order 66 and the Republic became the Empire, the V-Wings were one of the first ships in the Imperial Navy.

ARC-170 Starfighter:

ARC-170s were durable fighters that debuted around 8 months into the war, along with the V-19. They were long range fighters, and could last for a couple weeks without backup. They were truly a feared sight to Droid Starfighters.

Jedi Starfighter:

Jedi Starfighters were the official starfighters of the Jedi Order and for a short time, the clones. It was equipped with dual blaster cannons and a built-in astromech unit. It did not have a hyperdrive, but it could connect to a hyperdrive ring.

Jedi Interceptor:

Jedi Interceptors were faster and more agile than their sister ship, the Jedi Starfighter. They too had no hyperdrive, but could still connect to a hyperdrive ring.

TX-130 Fighter Tank:

The TX-130 Fighter Tank was very durable and considered the "Jedi Starfighter" of ground combat. It had room for a pilot, usually a high-ranking clone trooper or ARC trooper, and room for a gunner. The gunners seat could be substituted for an astromech unit port. The TX-130 was used on battlefields like Geonosis and Tatooine. The Tank was so popular that it was still used during the time of the Empire.

AT-XT:

The AT-XT (All-Terrain Experimental Transport) was used for a short period of time during the early stages of the Clone Wars. It was never mass-produced, but its legacy lived on through the later AT-RT and Imperial AT-ST.

AT-RT:

AT-RTs (All Terrain Reconassince Transport) were developed during the final stages of the Clone Wars. It had a single repeating blaster cannon mounted on the chin of the vehicle. One of the drawbacks of the AT-RT was that the driver was open to enemy fire. It was used heavily during the outer rim seiges, on such worlds like Felucia, Utapua, and Kashyyyk.

AT-OT:

This walker was used to deploy a large number of troops into enemy territory. It had four mounted blasters, two on the front, and two on the back. It saw use on worlds like Felucia and Vorgan V.

UT-AT:

The UT-AT (Unstable Terrain Artillery Transport) is an extremley durable, heavy armored transport supported by eight rows of repulsorlift skis. It was mainly used on snow worlds during the Clone Wars, and it was heavily used on Mygeeto under the command of cold weather clone commander Bacara and his Galactic Marine Snowtroopers.

AT-AP:

The sight of a squad of AT-APs are enough to make a Neimodian General retreat his droid forces. These walkers have two heavy cannons and a retractable third leg. For that, it has been nicknamed "Astromech" by clone commanders. It saw heavy use during the hellish Battle Of Felucia.

SPHA-T:

The SPHA-T is basicley "a giant gun battery with legs" as some clone troopers call it. Its most famous use was during the Battle Of Geonosis, were a few SPHA-Ts took down an entire Trade Fed Core Ship. SPHA-Ts also function as mobile Republic Outposts.

Republic Assault Gunboat:

Republic Assault Gunboats, although not as popular as their cousin, the LAAT Gunship, were a troop-deployment vehicle during the Clone Wars. During the aftermath of the Battle Of Utapau, when the Republic became an Empire and Order 66 was executed, a Gunboat searched for Obi-Wan Kenobi in the depths of a sinkhole.

Republic Carrier:

On worlds were there was no space for a Acclamator-Class or Venator-Class Ship to land, the Republic sent a Republic Carrier. A Carrier went to Yavin IV to rescue Anakin Skywalker, but the ship was destroyed by Assajj Ventress.

Acclamator-Class Attack Ship:

Acclamator-Class Attack Ships were used thoroughly during the Clone Wars. They could land on a planets surface to deploy troops and heavy vehicles.

Republic Star Destroyer:

The Republic Star Destroyer was not developed for troop deployment, (Although that was a popular use of it) but for ship-to-ship combat. It had a tough, durable hull, and many turbolaser batterys. Republic Star Destroyers fought valiently during the epic Battle Of Coruscant. When the Republic dissolved and the Empire took its place, Imperial Forces painted their Republic Star Destroyers in a bleak grey paint, a symbol of what was to come.

Swamp Speeder:

Swamp Speeders were favored by Clone Troopers for their speed and medium armor plating. They were used during the outer rim seiges on worlds such as Kashyyyk and Felucia.

Juggernaut:

These mammoth tanks assisted Commander Gree and his Scout Troopers on Kashyyyk. They had heavy armor plating and many missiles. They were used even during the Galactic Civil War, Thrawn Crisis, and the Yuuzon Vong Threat.

A New Order:

Around 6 years into the 20-year period where Obi-Wan watched over Luke, the Empire changed their ships, armor, and weapons.

Imperial Speeder Bike:

Originally developed during the legendary Clone Wars, these agile, light craft were used by Scout Troopers and Stormtroopers. They have a single repeating blaster.

TIE Fighter:

The sight of a TIE Fighter is enough to make a smuggler want to change his course. The main starship of the Galactic Empire is equipped with blaster cannons and several heavy missile launchers. It is a very fast craft, but it lacks a hyperdrive or shields. However, later models of the TIE Fighter have shields and a hyperdrive included.

TIE Interceptor:

Seeing its debut at the Battle Of Endor is the TIE Interceptor. Much more faster and agile than the standard TIE Fighter, the TIE Interceptor was a deadly threat to the Rebel Alliance.

TIE Bomber:

TIE Bombers are lethal craft thats main purpose is to deliver payloads of bombs. Borrowing deseign elements from the TIE Advanced x1, the TIE Bomber has a pilot seat and a bombadier seat.

TIE Defender:

TIE Defenders were a great threat to the Rebellion. Its strange deseign made it very manuaverable, and it had many blaster cannons.

TIE Scout:

The TIE Scout was deseigned to scout out Rebel bases, hence the name. It was equipped with a powerful Class-2 Hyperdrive. One major drawback is that the TIE Scout was expensive to make.

TIE Advanced x1:

This ship was the Sith Lord Darth Vaders personal starfighter. Many rebel pilots died with Vader at the controls of this vessel.

Theta-Class Imperial Shuttle:

Palpatines ship of choice during his rise to power, the Theta-Class was a well-equipped vessel. It had multiple blaster cannons, a class-1 hyperdrive, and a payload of missiles.

Lambda-Class Imperial Shuttle:

Similar to the Theta-Class, the Lambda-Class was a shuttle used by Palpatine, Vader, and high-ranking Officers. It was used alongside the Theta-Class.

Imperial Landing Craft:

The Imperial Landing Craft is a troop-deployment ship, similar to the shuttles of the time, but better armed than the shuttles. One of these ships was used to drop a legion of sandtroopers to search for the stolen Death Star plans on Tatooine.

Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser:

Though outdated, the Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser is a feared and respected ship in the Imperial Navy. It was developed even before the Clone Wars, making it the oldest type of vessel to serve in the Imperial Fleet.

Tartan Patrol Cruiser:

During the early years of the Empire, the Tartan Patrol Cruiser was created to deal with the increasing threat of piracy and space rebellion. It is deseigned to deal with small, fast moving craft.

Broadside Missile Cruiser:

Created in the early stages of the Galactic Civil War, the Broadside Missile Cruiser functions as a long-range missile ship. It has exceptional speed and maneuverability, but light armor.

Star Destroyer:

The Imperial Star Destroyer is one of the largest in the Imperial Navy. It boasts multiple gun batteries, turbolaser stations, tractor beam projectors, an entire Stormtrooper division, and a hangar bay to carry smaller Imperial ships.

Super Star Destroyer:

The largest ship in the Imperial Navy, the Imperial Super Star Destroyer is simply a gargantuan ship. The most famous Super Star Destroyer is Lord Vaders flagship, the Executor. It had almost 10 times as much weaponry as a standard Star Destroyer.

AT-ST:

The main ground vehicle of the Imperial Army, the AT-ST is a formidable walker. It is equipped with twin repeating blasters, remote rockets, and cluster missiles. It is often seen flanking AT-ATs and serving as a reconnassince and patrol vehicle.

TIE Mauler:

Based on the TIE Starship, the TIE Mauler was a later addition the Imperial Army. It is equipped with triple blaster cannons and cluster missiles.

SPMA-T:

A smaller version of a vehicle that appeared early in the Clone Wars, the SPMA-T is a deadly craft. They are usually accompanied by two TIE Maulers, for they lack heavy armor and speed. They have a single gun turret on them.

AT-AA:

A vehicle that has been in the making since the Clone Wars, the AT-AA (All Terrain Anti Aircraft) is a craft that makes Rebel Pilots gulp. It is equipped with heavy anti aircraft ordinance, but no defensive weapons. Because of this, AT-AAs rarely travel alone.

AT-AT:

The pride of the Imperial Army, the bane of the Rebel Alliance, the AT-AT (All Terrain Armored Transport) is a horrifying sight on the scopes of Rebel Officers. Like Imperial Philosophy, it favors fear over function, but it is still an effective walker nonetheless. It has mulptiple weapons, the most powerful being two chin mounted heavy blaster cannons. It has enough room to carry 40 troops and 5 speeder bikes. It is piloted by elite stormtrooper corps, and a commander. The AT-AT was thought to be completely invincible, but a young farmboy turned jedi apprentice changed all that...

Toy Reviews / The Saga Collection Poggle The Lesser
« on: February 23, 2006, 08:25 PM »
I finally saw this wave at Wal*Mart today, save Scorch and the Clone, and I picked up Poggle. I don't have the screen scene he originaly came with, so this figure is new to me.

Sculpt: 4.5/5
Poggle has a very detailed and intricate sculpt on him, and it has all his various Geonosian jewlery sculpted on. The headsculpt is fairly accurate, but looks a little bloated to me.

Articulation: 3/5
Mr. Lesser sports 5 POA. This is okay for a former SS figure, I guess.

Paint: 5/5
One of this figures high points, Poggle, at least on my version, has a fantastic paintjob. The most intricate part is his chest armor, which is painted in multiple colors and looks very nice. Compared to the SS version, he has a more movie-accurate paintjob on his face.

Accesories: 4/5
Poggle is cellmates with these items in his Plastic Prison:
-Geonosian Battlestaff
-Stand
-Hologram Figure (I got Fett)
The staff is sculpted nice, and fits well in his hand.

Overall: 4/5
If you're a lover of Obscure Aliens, Geonosians, and Seperatist Leaders, this figure is for you. He will look great standing beside your Sun Fac or SAGA Geonosian Warriors.

Toy Reviews / The Saga Collection Power Droid 2-Pack
« on: February 10, 2006, 10:39 PM »
I came in to Target just in time to find an employee opening up a case of the Hoth Wave, and I quickly grabbed one of the Droid 2-Packs straight from the case. I do not have the figures that these droids previously came with, so these figures are all new to me.

Sculpt: 5/5
There is excellent sculpting on both the droids, especially on the Power Droid, who has all the bumps and wires and that weird "E" on the side. The Treadwell droid is a little plainer, but still has great sculpting.

Articulation: NA/5

Paintjob: 4.8/5
The Power Droid is painted exceptionally well, and has all the nooks and crannys painted. The Treadwell droid has a all-blue paintjob, except for a few random silver smudges, which I do not care for.

Accesories: 4.3/5
The Droid 2-Pack includes:
-The Power Droid's "Tiara"
-A little button-thingy that goes on the power droid
-Stand
-Mini Holo (The one I got was the Fleet Trooper, and to make sure Jesse doesn't get all frothy and pissed off and such, I'll say the Holo Fleet Trooper sucketh.)

The add-ons take a little work to get on, but they look great afterwards.

Overall: 4/5
Aside from the Power Droid not being able to stand up with both legs on the ground (PM me if you have a way to fix this), this 2-Pack is great. One of the best thing about the Droid 2-Pack is its faction versitality, you can display it with your Rebel Scum, have it maintaining your Star Destroyers and TIE Fighters for the Empire, or have it assisting Clone Troopers for the Republic.

Saga Collection '06 / Saga Kit Fisto's Jedi Starfighter
« on: February 5, 2006, 12:12 PM »
From that otheR Site:

Kit Fisto Jedi Starfighter $19.99
Will the Nautolan Jedi Master will be getting his own unique spaceship? It is not yet known if this will be based on the Episode II or Episode III design.

As a Kit fan, I'm excited. I'm predicting an off-the-hook green and black color scheme, on an E2 Starfighter.

Toy Reviews / The Saga Collection General Veers
« on: February 4, 2006, 02:09 PM »
Sculpt: 5/5
Veers has one of the best Imp. Officer sculpts, crisp yet smooth. He has a great likeness of the actor that played him, yet the face is also generic enough to be used as a generic officer.

Articulation: 4/5
Veers sports 10 POA. knee joints would have been nice though.

Paint: 5/5
Veers sports a great paintjob, especially on his combat armor. Very crisp.

Accesories: 5/5
Veers comes with:
-Combat Armor
-Combat Helmet
-Imperial E-11 Blaster Rifle
-Stand
-Mini Hologram (The one I got was Vader)

The armor snaps on very easiley, and stays on. The E-11 is about the same one we've gotten in Ozzel, TIE Crewman, Snowtrooper, Sandtrooper, etc. The holo Vader I got will serve as a general in my Holo Imperial Army.

Army Building Potential: 5/5
Veers could easiley be customized into other officers, as CHEWIE has done, or just leave it untampered with, Veers's face is generic enough.

Overall: 4.7/5
Veers is really great, and aside from knee joints, he's perfect.

Holo Imperial Army:
1 Stormtrooper, 1 General (Darth Vader)

Toy Reviews / The Saga Collection Bib Fortuna
« on: December 26, 2005, 02:36 PM »
One thing you should know if you plan to move to Northern Virginia: We never get the newest SW figures early. Two months late, usually. Imagine my surprise when I walked in to TRU, expecting to see ROTS Falcons and Mas Ameddas, but instead I saw 2 new Saga Collection figures, Bib Fortuna and Leia (Boushh).

Packaging: 5/5
I like the packaging, its a good cross between the Vintage packaging and the ROTS packaging. As some of you may know, the holo figure is located in the back of the cardback, and can bee seen through a small window.

Sculpt: 5/5
I thought the POTF2 sculpt of the good majordomo was dead-on, but this is that multiplyed by 1,000,000. The face sculpt is a subtle nod to Vintage collectors, as is sculpted with Bib's fangs bared, like the Vintage figure.

Articulation: 4/5
Ole' Bibbers has 9 POA. That's pretty good for a character that wasn't in many action sequences, and i'm happy with it.

Paint: 5/5
The paint on Mr.Fortuna is excellent, especially in the "armor" parts. The outer cloak looks a little more brown than the POTF2 version, and it seems more film accurate.

Accesories: 5/5
Bib includes:
-Dagger (Which fits most nicely in his sash)
-ROTJ Base
-And in my version, a holo Stormtrooper! My hologram Imperial army is practicely building itself.
The dagger is a nice sculpt, and features a two-tone paint job. Also, according to the Visual Dictionary, the dagger is film accurate. The holo Stormie is neat-o, but I wish he had a more neutral pose.

Price: 3/5
I had to shell out $7.99 at TRU for this, but hopefully it'll be cheaper other places.

Overall: 5/5
Bib is a great figure, and if you like obscure aliens, you'll like Bib.
