I saw the figures that were on display - Thor, Odin, and Loki, and while they looked pretty good in terms of articulation and detail, for some reason I am not getting pulled in to these like I was with Iron Man 2 figures. I am guessing a lot of it has to do with my partial disinterest to movie style figures. I am guessing/hoping there is a comic line to go with the movie line of this - then I may be more inclined to grab some. The movie line worked for IM2 for me because Tony Stark was in a suit, I didn't see his head, and even if I did RDJ was a perfect fit for IM to me. With Thor I will be forced to compare the movie version with the comic version - and I don't really see the movie version winning that battle.
Odin looked pretty good and I will probably pick him up, unless there is a comic version that is superior. Loki's neck was very long looking, and, besides that, I have always really liked the look of comic Loki - so unless the movie figure really wows me in some way it will pretty much be all comic line for me.
-
They looked good for what i assume are goingt o change a bit. I am in for them.
-
I was just thinking about this line for a minute and I got to wondering how they're going to handle the comic series, assuming they're doing it siilarly to what they've done with the other marvel movies. Unlike Iron Man and Cap, I can't think of too many Thor variations, theres classic, modern, ages of thunder, king and ultimate. Is there anything else? The way Hasbro seems to do things, they could easily knock all of those out in the first wave and have no more Thors for the rest of the line.
-
I see that the latest Toy Fare has a pic of the Destroyer figure from the 3 3/4" Thor line, which is up at MarvelousNews (http://www.marvelousnews.com/index.php?catid=23&itemid=13694). Sounds like there was some other Thor and Cap movie stuff inside as well.
-
thanks for the link.
there doesn't look like there is any wrist/bicep or waist/torso articulation - but there is something right above the belly button. my guess is it is a light up feature (eyes?), and, if so, is a poor placement for it - shoulda put it on the back. if it is some sort of "play feature" and it opens up to find something inside - then that is ok by me (I don't know anything about the character as maybe he is supposed to open there to reveal something).
-
The Destroyer figure looks awesome. I can't wait for the thor figures.
-
Comic Book Movie (http://comicbookmovie.com/thor/news/?a=29179) has a little picture montage of various Thor toys (all movie stuff the way it looks), which I'm guessing we'll see more of at Toy Fair. I forget, is Thor getting a "comic" line alongside the movie stuff like Iron Man did (and Cap will)?
-
Used the DPCI trick at Target and got my wave 1 Thor figures. If anyony wants to try for themselves the number is 087-06-1449
-
Thanks for the tip. I'm guessing these won't be too hard to find when they get closer to the meeting.
-
I think this is one line I won't collect.
-
I had a case pulled from the back at a local Target. I purchased a Thor, Loki, Odin, and Frost Giant.
Hasbro continues its brilliance with case assortments. The case contained three each of the three different Thors, one Odin, one Loki, and one Frost Giant.
-
Looks like some interesting custom fodder... this stuff looks a lot more fun that Iron Man line, I think.
-
Anyone have a picture of the Frost Giant? I didn't see that in the photo...
-
These guys look alright. I'll admit to being completely ignorant about Thor, and to not being overly excited (or interested, for that matter) about the movie. However, the figures look kinda cool, and if I like the movie I might pick up a few of the toys... in November for $5.00 apiece, of course.
-
That's what I'm thinking. If I like the movie, I'll wait until a sale. Afterall, IM2 figs went on sale fairly quick. I won't "NEED" to get Thor figures, but at a good price, I might want to get them.
-
HTS has the wave 1 case pack up as "coming soon". not sure who the heck would want to order that other than toy shop owners because 9 out of the 12 figures are Thor...
-
Only 9? Don't they know that if they only had 10 Thor figures per case it would be the line of the century? Didn't they learn anyting from Iron Man? Nobody wants pesky villains or...dad, in their toy lines.

I posted this in one of the other threads, but is Thor just getting a "movie" line with no comic series (like Iron Man and Cap got)? I haven't seen any mention of a comic series with Thor, and don't think there have been any pics of any either. They may be taking a more conservative approach (like the first Iron Man) with this line, while it appears Cap is getting a bit more of a rollout. I guess I wouldn't necessarily miss a comic series for Thor (they can incorporate them into MU), but wouldn't mind seeing the Warriors Three done at some point (comic style I mean).
-
Yeah, I really dont think I am going to be getting anything here except the destroyer and maybe a frost "giant"
-
Anyone know who the red beareded guy with the axe is? I'll probably get a movie Thor and maybe the destroyer. Odin looks good, but I'll likely pass on him and Loki unless there is a sweet deal.
On the comic line, it it surprising they didn't try to move some comic stuff in like they did with Iron Man and apparently Captain America. I too would like to see an old school Balder and the Warriors Three, maybe even Kelda and Thunderstrike. Hopefully they have some nice surprises saved for SDCC.

It was mentioned that a Comic Series will follow later, but not for the initial launch of the line ... which, to me, is unfortunate. I was really looking forward to the potential of a Comic Series.

Yeah, there are a few characters I'd be excited to get in a comic based series. I don't think in cluttered toy aisle filled with other movie stuff this will work out well at all.

Freaking Hollywood...glad to see they made an effort to stay true to the original artist' vision. ::)
-
Wow. Okay, so that must be an Asian "Hogun" with the hair-bob on the other side of the destroyer? He has the mace...ugh. I'm not impressed with those choices.
-
So far I can count ONE figure I'm going to get from this line. Destroyer is about it for me. I don't like the Hollywood style Thor or other figures. Way to far away from the comics.
Yes, Thor looks somewhat like his costume after the battle of Ragnorok. But most people know him as clean shaven and not armored.

I am with ya all the way, pretty much on both lines.
I collected the heck out of Iron Man - not because I like Iron Man any more or less than any other heroes - but because Iron Man has a ****-ton of different armors. To me, that right there was the rationalization to buy almost one of every type of armor they made - it was believable. Now I think I am going to be drawing a line for the most part for this Armored Avenger line and not pick those up - but I cannot count how many different armor types I now have from the IM2 line
As for Thor and Cap, I don't need that - it doesn't even make sense to get more of them. Each of them only have so many different "looks", and, to me, they are hardly negligible. Cap with or without pouches? I could care less. Same for Thor.
Bottom line I guess, I am sure Hasbro will force me to buy them anyways later on down the line a multipack that has other things I want - I do think I need to get them upfront.
-
I think between the Thor and Cap lines in total, I'm just getting Odin, Destroyer (maybe if he's not too small), WWII Cap, Crossbones, Winter Soldier, US Agent.
Not too much at all when you consider I buy 95% of the Marvel Universe line.
This stuff might really pegwarm.
-
I'm sure the Avengers toy line will be completely different than any of the the previous incarnations of the main characters, but I wouldn't mind picking up the best example of Thor and Cap to basically give me the base team. Then add any new characters, like Hawkeye, when the film comes out. But, I may wait for the actual Avengers line. We'll see.

I find it amusing that Hasbro keeps releasing just one (or none) bad guy in their initial Marvel movie lines, yet that seems to be the one figure everyone wants. Hopefully the revision case assortment is 11 Destroyers and a Loki.

You know they won't be that smart. I'm assuming they're applying the standard logic to the toys that it'll be kids buying them, rather than collectors. As long as the movie is a hit (and the others aren't) then they're probably smart in doing so because collectors will comprise a small amount of the market. But like the Crystal Skull, if it's not a huge hit then it's the usual movie related toy nightmare waiting to happen.
I won't buy that Loki given a MU version is coming. I would snap up Destroyer if I can and will probably buy all I see given how popular it's bound to be with collectors. I suspect there's a few people like me that never got it in the ML scale and would welcome it in the MU scale.

It's likely just a placeholder listing until they actually get it IN stock.

oh no, it was in stock
edit: we can all stop worrying - it is back in stock. :P

Is just wave 1 available tomorrow?
-
I found some of these at a local Target yesterday. I picked up the Sword Spike Thor since he appeared to be the most basic Thor currently available. They also had a one or two other variants on Thor, Odin, and one each of Loki and the Frost Giant, who I bet I'll regret not buying now. So it looks like just wave 1 is all that's available right now, and this Target got only one case, so hopefully Hasbro and the retailers aren't going to go nuts with this line like they did IM2.
-
Picked up the Deluxe Frost Giant today at Target. Didnt even know there was a deluxe version in addition to the single carded release.
-
I think I now realize why the case of Thor figures went OOS on HTS the other day - I think they did it to change the price. It was, iirc, $82.99, now it is $94.99.
That kinda stinks because I have entertained the thought of actually ordering MU cases from HTS had they put them up for sale in a timely fashion. But now, I am guessing newer cases will follow suit with the Thor line and raise the cost.
-
I looked over these things at TRU yesterday. They are god-awful. The 12" version or whatever that talks had me laughing out loud. I mean, how do you mis-pronounce THOR?!?! IT'S ONE FREAKING SYLLABLE! How does a Norse God talk with a Bristish accent? ("I...AM...THAWR") Where's the hat with wings?
I hate to play the bitter old man card yet again, but will they every make a comic book movie that actually resembles the comic it is based on?

Agreed...the quality of stuff I looked at last night was absolutely terrible. Unpainted joints, misplaced eyes, weird ass washes. They looked like ass
-
Found all the pegs set for Thor at Target. No product yet.

-
Found all the new Thor stuff at Target. I bought a regular Frost Giant basic figure for 7.99, but passed on the deluxe Frost Giant for 12.99.
The only differences between the 2 are the deluxe version is painted a darker blue, and comes with 2 wrist ice missile launchers. $5 more than the basic figure.
Um. Sure.
-
Our local Target had the new Thor stuff out today as well - Wave 1 (Three different Thors I believe, Odin, and Loki), the Hammer/Helmet role play stuff, and the larger Thor figure. I didn't look closely at the rest I guess.
-
I picked up Loki a few days ago at Target, not a bad figure.
Really I envisioned custom fodder for Star Wars when I saw him, and some of the other figures look like decent fodder as well... the Thor ones have really cool chest armor which I could see being used for Star Wars customs, but the figures of course are constructed in a way that makes it harder to work with.
Also the 3-3/4" stuff looks pretty good from what I saw, and that included Odin and the Frost Giant. The one real issue is too many versions of Thor - they should load up with more bad guys in the line, and God forbid, some "non aggressive" characters. Variety helps Star Wars so much, I don't get why Hasbro doesn't do that with more of their lines.
-
I saw these last night. Wow. The facial paint & hair masks look horrible and it almost looks as if they based the likeness on Kevin Nash from WWF/E versus the actual actor. :P
-
Hmmm... the ones I saw looked fine, I thought.
-
I agree with Jayson, I think the quality is terrible. All of the Lokis I have seen do not have the neck jointed painted and it looks like ass...and most of the Thors have a weird white wash over the top of the paint that looks awful
-
I have not seen these in great abundance yet - but based off the one Loki I saw I can agree with Scott, the unpainted neck joint looked bad. IIRC it was green and stuck out like a sore thumb.
The one Odin figure I saw actually looked pretty good - I think the only minor complaint would be his hips joints being a bit small looking.
As for Thor - I think I looked at 4 of the battle hammer versions. Out of the 4 I looked at only one of them had good enough facial paint apps that I would have considered for purchase.
As it stands right now, I am waiting for a sale on these before I buy any of them - I am in no rush here.
-
On Loki, the only one I have seen had a good paint job on the face, and the paint application all over the rest of the figure seemed good. Yeah, the neck joint is a different color, but for my interests that's not the end of the world.
I've seen a few Frost Giants, and each one looks awesome. No paint issues. The only Odin that I have looked as appeared fine to me.
I guess I haven't inspected the Thor ones too much, but they don't seem to be God awful like most of the Indiana Jones line. And I've seen several Marvel figures that look worse, and even some of the Vintage figures in the "premium" Star Wars line appear to have less effort put into them; so I don't really think Hasbro dropped the ball that hard in terms of quality on these. Just my two cents.
-
I saw these at our local Target over the weekend as well, and although I did notice the lack of paint on the neck joint on Loki, I guess I didn't see quite the overall problems others have either. I picked up a Thor, and it seems to look decent enough to me, but hopefully the line won't suffer from various paint problems that Indy and others have.
-
HTS now has the singles up for pre-order including the Ice Giant and the Deluxe Ice Giant. Pretty lame that for $5 more all you are getting is darker paint apps, 2 of those rocket shooting ice launchers for the kiddies, and one extra club.
-
Saw these at Target today. They looked okay but I didn't buy any. One of the Thor figures I picked up looked a little off in the face, but the others were fine. Odin and Loki looked good, though, and so did the Frost Giant that I saw. I don't really care for the light-up Thor that they did...similar to the Iron Man with the push down head, but the others were okay.
E...
-
I picked up the caped Thor and the Frost Giant today and am pretty happy with both, great sculpts and the paint on my samples seems pretty spot on. They're nice quality and fit in nicely with the Iron Man stuff, it looks like they'll have a nice variety of figures coming as long as the multitudes of Thors don't clog the pegs too much.
-
I'm not collecting this line, but a friend of mine is, and every Loki we've seen thus far has that unpainted neck joint. She's far more picky about what she buys, so she marked Loki off her list entirely until they do an updated version (if they do, which I doubt).
One question, though: why did Hasbro feel the need to include a firing missile in the role play Thor Hammer toy? When I saw that feature mentioned on the package, I laughed out loud in the aisle. Are kids today that devoid of imagination that Hasbro has to include a FIRING MISSILE in Thor's hammer for play value? Did they have to include something like that to distract people when some kid inevitably calls down the power of Asgard on another kid's head on the playground?
-
Theres a Loki coming out in a later wave that has a cape and the big horned helmet. Thats the one I'm holding out for.
-
Theres a Loki coming out in a later wave that has a cape and the big horned helmet. Thats the one I'm holding out for.
Good to hear - I will wait for that one! I'm probably just going to get Sword Spike Thor out of what is currently out there - assuming I Can find one with a good paint job.
-
saw these at Walmart today. Cant remember if this has been discussed here, but their is an Odin paint variant. One has all silver on his chest and white hair and a couple of other things, the other has a some gold on his chest and grey hair and a couple other little things.
anyway, I went to WM today and they put out 2 cases and there was one of each. The silver on with White hair, to me, just looks like unfinished product when compared to the other.
still passing for now.
-
Boy these Thor figures really came in with an apologetic whimper. What a ho-hum bunch of crap!
This line really had some great potential for some comic line figures. Instead we have about a billion Chris Hemsworth figures clogging the pegs.
Hasbro is so stupid sometimes.

marverlousnews.com has a pic of the 8 inch Destroyer from this line and, while it has what looks like to be extremely limited articulation, I still wonder if a purchase of this might still be warranted to go with any 3 3/4 inch figures. Would these guys be in scale?

I looked it up. officially Marvel has Destroyer listed as 6'2". However, in the movie trailer, he looks twice that tall.
See he looks like 15 feet tall in this clip. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOQv_H2W_pU)
So, I dunno. This could be like Iron Monger. The 3 3/4" release was basically useless but the 6" scale figure was perfect.
-
Saw these for the first time today. The line has about 8 pegs at the local Target (Star Wars and other various lines are down to about 4 each... Tron has around 12, which confuses me) and each peg has maybe 1 or 2 Thor figures hanging on... I wish I could say this was surprising but we've all expressed our opinions on the Hasbro Marvel movie lines before.
-
Judging from the releases so far, it seems like Hasbro is taking a more conservative approach with this line (similar to the first Iron Man in a way). I remember when the IM line came out for the first movie, it just had a small section and a small(er) selection of characters and Iron Man suits. Of course that all changed with IM2. With the Thor line looking to be all movie based (at least so far), I think the more conservative approach is probably pretty smart. It looks like, judging by Toy Fair, that they are putting a lot more of a push behind Captain America. On a side note, I don't understand all the space still dedicated to TRON either, but perhaps they figured they just as well leave it out until the BD/DVD release.
-
The Tron line actually seemed to sell rather well around here. At least the 4" figures, the light car and maybe one or two other things. The larger (6"? 8"?) figures didn't seem to sell and my Walmart has them on clearance along with the remote control ligth cycle and the white figure compatible version. Role play came and went and the small die cast vehicles did okay too.
My Walmart has a larger section for Thor than Target does, but it's still nothing compared to what IM2 got. I saw the regular Frost Giant at WM yesterday, not bad looking. I'd only seen the deluxe version before. The figures actually look okay, it remains to be seen how they sell, though. I don't really have any thoughts that, even if the movie rocks, this will become an evergreen line. If Hasbro can get one, maybe two more waves with more heroes/villains and then let it fade in favor of Captain America, I think they'd be serving the market.
I'm not looking forward to seeing the glut of red, white and blue that the CA lines looks to be about to unleash on us. I do think that line has the potential for better looking villains, though. But if we actually see them at retail is the question.
E...
-
I think a 6" Destroyer might be an okay fit into the MU lineup, but an 8" seems way too big. Maybe they'll make the armor that big in the movie, but I think the comic version of the armor was intended to fit around a god/human sized being. If it is 2-3 times the size of a person, that doesn't make a lot of sense.
-
I've finally seen some of these as well. Not bad looking for the ones I've seen, the two versions of Thor and the Loki plus deluxe Thor and Ice dude. But I've never been into Thor so may or may not see this. Def don't need to collect the figs. Though I wouldn't mind having ONE Thor to put with the half doz IM2 figs my son wanted. Maybe Capt AM too. Haven't seen those in stores yet.
-
Very limited character lineup in the Thor 4" figures. We've got what, 4 or 5 different versions of Thor in both the basic and deluxe lines. Only 1 version each of Odin & Loki (and does Loki have his helmet?). A couple of different versions of the Frost Giants in both the basic and deluxe lines. But no Destroyer? No Warriors Three? Hmmm. I hope this line doesn't fall into some of the same patterns the Iron Man line went through, with a BAJILLION versions of the hero and nobody else.
-
Yeah, the Thor stuff definitely seems to be hanging about here as well - although the movie hasn't been released yet. I don't see it being a huge seller in terms of action figures, but I think with a conservative approach it could do ok. They do need more variety though. I know the next (or perhaps third) wave has the Warriors Three and a Destroyer in it, so hopefully that makes it out there soon - and in decent numbers. Beyond that I think there are more versions of Thor, Loki, Odin and a Sif planned a bit further out, if we ever see them. I know they are up for preorder at BBTS anyways.

Did they ever release Whiplash? I have yet to see him or really any of the last wave of IM figures. ::)

you really have never seen movie series Whiplash at retail? Not even the one in the Target 3 pack? Perhaps you are talking about the comic series version - that really never made it out - though I did hear one guy say he found a comic series version at TRU.
On the Thor figures - my Kmart.com order I placed yesterday afternoon was cancelled and they gave me a number to call and try and reset the order for some reason (kmart.com you suck as a website and service) so I might go back to debating ordering a case of Thor wave 2 from HTS.com and I will just swap some of the extra figures in the case for a gold Odin and some frost giants at Target.
-
I did see the multipack with Whiplash, but never saw him single carded.
-
I got the helmeted Thor and Destroyer from wave 2 today. A buddy of mine ordered a case.
-
I did see the multipack with Whiplash, but never saw him single carded.
I"ve seen a single carded whiplash recently, at one of my local targets. THe single carded drones haven't been around since last fall. TRU still has a few of its exclusive drones w/Nick Fury, wouldn't mind getting it but ya know, it's NOT new TRU - mark it down and they'll sell.
-
Yeah, they had Wave 1 out MONTHS before the movie was released, and now that the thing is out and the "iron is hot" they suddenly stop shipping new figs?
Dudes, everyone wants that Destroyer! Hook it up!
-
Seriously, Hasbro sucks at this.
All of those figures should be hanging on the pegs the day the movie comes out.

INDEED.
At the very least these figures should be turning up at retail now that the movie has been in theaters for close to two weeks.
Right now I only see at least 4 versions of Thor between the basic & deluxe lines, a couple of Frost Giants (basic & deluxe), Odin and Loki. If Hasbro was really interested in striking while the iron is hot, the Destroyer, the Warriors Three and Sif should have all come out right around now.
-
I agree, Hasbro should really try to get these figures out there sooner. I agree with the example of Whiplash, etc., but by the time some of those "other" figures hit retail in the IM2 line I had lost some interest as well. I ordered the "Warriors Three" and Destroyer online, just because I didn't know if they would ever hit retail.
-
I don't see why Hasbro frontloads their super hero movie toy lines with so many versions of the main character. That's really what the problem is, in my opinion. If they didn't do that, they could have a better variety of character selection. One would think they would seen this from Iron Man 2 toys... it's really absurd.
-
The only reason seems to be that they don't want to give away plot points or reveal anything from the movie in the toy line, but with trailers, SDCC previews, rampant Internet leaks and even photo teases from directors via Twitter and Facebook, it's really a moot point anymore.
Adult collectors are going to know more than the toy line is going to reveal, movie fans have seen the preview stuff and kids, who may not see that stuff, probably won't investigate the toys till after they've seen the movie in many cases.
On the other hand, I remember back in 1999 when the track listing for the Phantom Menace soundtrack became known and it spoiled Qui-Gon's death. The novel dropped before the film also, but reading a book and harmlessly browsing the CD rack are two different things.
E...
-
Yeah, who knows... my theory is that it's bad market research on Hasbro's part.
-
I keep going back and forth on ordering a case of wave 2. I cant make up my mind - but if I am going to do it I need to do it in the next couple of days to take full advantage of the HTS sale or before they sell out.
I have never ordered a case before, and the price per figure after tax comes to $7.62 each and I can exchange some of the duplicates at Target for and Odin and more frost giants.
But I still cant pull the trigger - yet. I am cheap. I know at some point these will go on sale again 2 for 11 at TRU. Also, I would rather just have comic versions of all of the characters - but at the same time I would also not enjoy not ever getting the characters (warriors 3 specifically) in one form or another. hmmmmmm what to do
-
I think Hasbros biggest problem with these movie lines is that they try to drag it on too much. 4-5 waves for a summer movie line is just too much, non collector interest usually doesn't last that long. 2 waves is a nice number for a movie line, one sneak preview wave and then a wave that comes out with the theatrical release, with maybe a third coming out around the dvd release, but nothing past that. If they find there's still demand after the initial releases, then would be a good time to throw together an easy repaint and variants wave to appease consumers. Honestly though, I think they did better here with Thor than they did Iron Man, aside from missing the boat to get wave 2 out for the movie release. Theres actually some character selection and not just a million Thor variants, villains are out in the early waves and not at the lines end etc. The only real gripe I have is putting Sif in wave 4, pretty much ensuring most will never get her.
-
well, I bit the bullet. I ordered my first case ever of any action figures. I ended up ordering Thor wave 2 figures. As some of you may know - I am pretty cheap when it comes to my collecting. I figured at most it cost me $20 more then what I would find them for cheapest at retail (excluding clearance) - and that is "if" I were to find them.
Another concern of mine was whether or not these figures (Warriors 3, etc.) would ever be in their comic styling. Well, after doing some research it looks as if no members of The Warriors 3, or Odin for that matter, were ever made as Marvel Legends figures figures. So, going off that, I figured it may be a long time, if ever, that we see them in the MU line.
So, all said and done it was like $91.50 shipped to my door for 12 figures. I already have bought an Odin and a Frost Giant from Target to exchange some of my extra Thors with.
-
Saw some Thor figures with the helmet today. No sign of figures like the Destroyer or the Warriors Three, but they were shown on the cardback of the new Thors I spotted.

Which store???
-
An independent mom & pop shop with a direct Hasbro account
-
There is no room at all for these at my WM, but they look cool in these pics - I hope I can get them somehow:

About ******* time.
-
I had not seen the Thor ones before, i will probably pick up Thor since the Select version doenst have a helmet.
-
Definitely glad we're seeing some 6" figures for these lines, hopefully they won't be impossible to find. I figured these would all be WM exclusives, but I noticed the Thor ones have those stickers but the Cap ones don't. I'm not sure if that makes any difference or not. I did see the Iron Man ones (for the most part) here locally, although some disappeared pretty quickly (Mark VI and War Machine) while others I think are still there (suitcase armor).
-
Those are 6" figures? Yeck. If smaller scale, I'd be excited.
-

Agreed. I'm not impressed enough to get any of these.
-
I saw two Destroyers and one each of the Warriors Three at a Wal-Mart today along with three or four of the helmeted Thor.
-
I saw a box of unopened THOR figures on a pallet at Walmart last night that said something related to the word "Helmet" but I didn't suspect it might be new 3 3/4" figures. I may have to go back and check now.
-
Came across a recently pegged case of Thor figures - I was able to score the Warriors Three, Helmed Thor and Destroyer.
It was kind of an expensive day with the Assassin Droid sets from TRU and the BluRay purchase, I may just decide to take the figures back, I don't know how much I really NEED to have Thor figures at this point.
-
Last figure i need is Sif, not proving to be an easy find. :-\
-
Last figure i need is Sif, not proving to be an easy find. :-\
Has Sif even been released? ???
-
people have found her at TRU
-
I've seen a couple of the new Thors that ship in the same case as Sif. They're kind of silly, truth be told. "Cosmic armor"? I also found some of the other newer figures like Hogun, Fandral and the light up Destroyer.
-
If ya find a Sif Nab one for me! ;D
-
Found the wave Sif is shipping in today, but no Sif. At TRU.
It'll turn up soon. I'm relentless.
-
If ya find a Sif Nab one for me! ;D
The first Sif I find is mine. But if I can score an extra I'll offer it up here. The fact that the wave with Sif is showing up is encouraging though.
I'm more concerned with whether or not Heimdall will ever show anywhere.
-
I am thinking Heimdall will either get the TJ Maxx/Ross treatment, or, more likely, get the IJ Temple of Doom wave treatment via ebay China auctions.
-
I saw the wave with the Helmeted Thor and Fandral, Destroyer, etc yesterday at the same Target that got in new TCW figures. No one else has gotten them yet.
That destroyer looks pretty cool, but too small, obviously.
Forgot to check for SIF today at TRU...
-
So on this topic of new Thor figures showing up....has anyone found the Loki with helmet, or King Laufey?
-
Saw a few of the new figures today at Target. Looked to be this case assortment. (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HMV93875B)

That's the one I have been seing too.
So if that's Wave 2 and the SIF Wave is Wave 4, what is Wave 3 supposed to be?
-
3 is the Frost Giant King Laufey and King Loki.
Kinda sad that 2 waves only consist of 3 new figures, huh? ::)
edit: wait, unless you really count "cosmic" repaint Thor and the other crappy repaints as a new figures
-
Yeah, this line has been a little frustrating to collect. They front loaded the line with all of these different Thors, but not so much of the other characters. Thankfully I was able to get Vostagg today, so I've got all of the Warrior's Three. But I'm still on the lookout for Laufey, King Loki and Sif.
-

I'm glad they learned their lesson from the Iron Man 2 line. Oh wait...
-
I think we can *PROBABLY* understand some of the methodology about the wave lineups. In some cases the studios are probably trying to keep some story points under wraps, and that may include the toy line. But that logic was flawed in the case of Iron Man 2. We saw Whiplash in the trailers for that film. And there was no armored Whiplash figure that might have been a spoiler for the movie. It's all very strange.
-
I think you're right, Nick, that there's a certain amount of secrecy in these lines but they really don't need it anymore. Especially with how much about a movie gets out online these days, there aren't a ton of secrets for people unless they really stay away from spoilers. But in that case, I don't think a toy line is going to blow anything.
There might also be another issue also, and that's the lead time on the production of the figures. They have to be in production while the movies are still filming and on some of these superhero films that have a ton of CGI work, Hasbro, Mattel and the other companies may just not know exactly what a character will look like until it's too late to get them into the first wave or two.
The original Elan Sleazbagano in the AOTC line had ears that Hasbro had to remove because Lucas, or someone, updated the character's look after Hasbro was already producing the fig. It happens, and it probably happens more on secondary characters than the main.
Still, it's really frustrating to see a line like Thor or Captain America launch and it's all the hero with no variety. Still, neither of those lines was as bad as Iron Man 2. That line is a model for what not to do, ever, with a toy line.
E...

Secrecy or not, there's no reason why certain comic figures can't be included in earlier waves rather than the 12th version of Thor. I seriously cannot imagine anyone who wants 12 different versions of the same guy. Iron Man might be the only exception to that based on all of his different armor varieties, but cosmic Thor or Thor with & without helmet? That's just dumb. They could have put in so many different characters from the books, or even put out comic versus movie editions of Odin, Loki, the warriors three, etc. Heck, if you're worried about secrecy then why not put out comic baddies to keep fans guessing as to who really is and isn't in the film. If they had put more Iron Man villians out (Spymaster, Ghost, Blizzard, Living Laser, etc.) then see Whiplash and Hammer as the only real villians would have been a surprise. I get not putting the Hammer drones out in an early wave, but there are many more options than 12 varieties of the hero character.
-
I suspect that it may be the movie studios that are contractually dictating which characters can be revealed in figure form in the terms of the master toy license. Toy licenses don't merely allow the licensee (like Hasbro) to produce whatever they want from the film.
There is a licensing approval process, and that's something we've seen over the years in Lucasfilm's relationship with Hasbro. Street dates, likenesses and marketing schedules are all elements which get agreed upon by both the studio/production company and the licensee. It may very well be the same with Marvel Studios and Hasbro, too.
In the case of the more recent Thor figures, I'm seriously wondering if Hasbro was holding back stock for the release of the DVD. Namely, because Target has a special Marvel movie display piece in the DVD sales department for DVD's, BluRays as well as Captain America and Thor figures.
-
Could be the movie guys or the Hasbro guys...I don't get the decision regardless of who is making it. ;)
-
Found the three warriors wave today. Bought them, not sure if I'll open them as I'd rather have comic versions of them. Will those ever be made? Doubtful. Still no sign of Sif though I guess in the case of stores here, we're a little behind anyway.
I found these much to my surprise at a Superstore, which is more grocery store here than anything else but always gets toys in for the Christmas season, so here's hoping they bring in more yet.
-

I wonder if Hasbro would ever consider doing a comic version 3 pack, team pack, of these guys?
-
Sif has been scarce pretty much everywhere. The only way I've known that Sif has shipped anywhere is the leftover, weird versions of Thor that ship in the same case.
TRU's online store has a listing for Sif, but it's been out of stock every time I check on it.
-
My prediction is that the Sif wave will probably show up in fairly decent numbers at close out discount stores next year sometime, as is usually the case with these final waves. heres hoping at least.
-

There's actually a case with those different Thors and the Warriors Three that doesn't include Sif...
-
Yeah, I've seen that. The case with the Warriors Three has been showing up at Target stores. And the case with Sif has been showing up at TRU. I was fortunate enough to finally score Sif this morning, and also saw some of what else was in that case. Truthfully, it was kind of underwhelming. More different versions of Thor, an alternate deco version of Loki, and the light up Destroyer but in comic deco (black).
Sorry, I only found 1 Sif. ::)

Congrats on finding her. I haven't seen new Thor stuff in ages.

Will do! I'm still looking for King Loki and King Laufey myself.
-
Looks like some more Thor figures might be in the pipeline. A new Deluxe Frost Giant, for one.
-
Found a Sif today. At Sears of all places. Left the King Loki behind.
-
Holy crap go get it for me please! and a Laufey and a Sif too if possible! ;D
I am serious - if you can I would be very appreciative
-
Finally saw the WalMart exclusive Thor figures. MEH.
Still trying to find King Loki & Laufey though. And also trying to find someone who might be interested in splitting a case of the Thor Deluxe figures. Each case includes TWO Heimdalls.

I'll try, but I don't get shopping much anymore since I changed jobs. Figs are $9.95 and tax up here so close to $11 :-\ Shipping ain't cheap either.

What elese is in the case Nick?

I have Heimdall. Don't splurge too much. The articulation is limited and it's not even the comic version. I'll post pics soon. Just ate so much turkey.

2 x Heimdall's, 3 x Lightning Fury Thor's & 1 x Blaster Armor Thor. Here's the listing (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HMV29564B). The case is $84.99, and I need all three deluxe figures in the set.
-
Sorry it took me so long to post pictures of what I was trying to say about Heimdall.
Here's a couple pics:

You can see in the first pic the kind of elbow joints Hasbro gave the figure. It doesn't allow for any movement but a flex of the bicep, which makes most cool poses impossible. If you want to get him and just post him with his sword at his side, he's okay. The other thing is, he's not even the comic version. Not that I don't love Charles from his season on the office. Or his being chased around by Ali Larter in Obsessed. I mean who doesn't love that. But in Heimdall armor, not so much.
In other news, finally got an opener Sif today at TRU. Place was a damn zoo at lunchtime but they still had the 2 for 12.99 signs up, so I grabbed an ethnic variant Endor Rebel and got both for $13.
-
You forgot to mention his role as "Stringer Bell" from the HBO series "The Wire". If you haven't ever seen that show do yourself a favor and watch all 5 seasons. Best. Show. Ever.

I loved the Simpsons joke about that show last week, where they basically made fun of the fact that so many people tout it but almost no one actually watched it when it was on.
Quality stuff though, for sure.

BOGOF on all Ironman/Thor figures at TRU - it says 12/08/11, but the email i got from them said 12/07-12/10 so i dunno...
-
My TRU finally got a case of wave 4 like other stores I keep hearing reports about. Unfortunately someone already nabbed Sif :'(
-
I can"t be certain of this but it looks to me like my local TRU put out another case of Wave 4, the Sif wave, upfront with the Avengers display. Sif was gone, but two black Destroyers were there.
-
Well, hopefully someone on this board can help me out, apparently the Laufey and King Loki wave is now starting to pop into TJ Max and Marshall stores. I would be very grateful if someone were able to nab the pair of these guys, or even just Laufey for me.

I'll keep a lookout. Is Sif in that wave? Still holding out hope of finding her....

these guys were in wave 3, Sif was in wave 4

Drat. Well, I'll keep an eye out for you all the same.
-
I'm going to be hitting TJ Maxx with a vengeance. I was never able to find Laufey or King Loki. And I'll be sure to keep an eye out for Sif. I was lucky and found her at TRU, but only once.
-

If you come up with an extra Laufey I would be interested 8). I have been going daily to my closest TJ Max/Marshalls and still nothing. I have only seen one Sentinel and it was at Marshalls and it was the Silver one.
So I think my local stores suck for toys.
-
Sorry to go OT, but how much are Sentinels going for at Marshall's? I wouldn't mind adding a couple; I don't care if they're silver.

Grrr..... stopped by Marshalls today to see that they had 5 figures on the pegs, but none being King Loki or Laufey. I just want to find these and be done with those stores!

Which did they have? There are some key figures that will let you know whether Laufey or Loki were there.
-
Volstag and the Grey Destroyer - I asked an employee to check the back for me as I was hoping they maybe left some in the back since the peg was full, so the girl checked but came back empty handed.
I havent heard any other reports of these stores getting any other cases other than wave 3 yet
here is the case breakdown for those wondering:

-
Hmm. There's the potential that it could have been wave 2, possibly. Did you see Thor with the helmet, Fandral or Hogun?
-
Found King Laufey and King Loki x 2 at TJ Maxx today.
Amazing really, $5.99 each. They go for a grip on eBay. Cheap thrill.
-

How about cheapening that thrill even further and sending one of those Laufeys my way?
:)
-
Found King Loki today at a TJ Maxx store today. Still hunting for Laufey, though.
It looks like these were part of either a Wave 2 or 3 case, because I also saw Hogun and Volstagg. I'm starting to think that TJ Maxx might not be shipping whole cases to stores, because I haven't seen any indications of a whole case so far.
-
yeah, I am pretty sure they do not send whole cases to stores :(
I have been looking at some ebay auctions and I am noticing some of the collectors from marvelousnews.com are putting these figures up for sale as they are finding them. That stinks. Wish they would help out.
-
I went out again looking today. Someone picked up the Destroyer at Marshalls yesterday, and nothing new there today. At TJ Max there were two figures on the pegs that we not there the day before - Thor and Odin........... So either someone beat me to it, or they only got two figures.........
-
I just won a Laufey off EBay for $15 shipped. I am tired of going around to those 2 stores looking
I will skip on King Loki, the Avengers one is good enough for me. Now I can say I am done with the Thor line
I normally dont feed the ebay, but I basically have been forced to paying a little more and ordering online for just about everything this year I figured I would do it again while my pants were still down.......... Now I dont have to pay for the gas on daily trips to those two stores looking for him.
Other than the Ewok sets at Kmart and TRU, I think I am done with retail for a LONG TIME. Until the Hobbit line comes out....
-
If anyone has an extra Laufey, I've got an extra Avengers Black Widow up for trade!
-

I'm getting a little less judgmental about that kind of thing. It's one thing for basement dwellers who scalp for scalping's sake; but this hobby is getting so damn expensive, I'm no longer as critical about fellow collectors who offset the expense by recouping some of the cost if they get lucky with a find by putting it up on the secondary market. Fortunately, I never find anything good that I don't need myself, so I haven't been personally confronted with the moral dilemma of what to do in such a situation, but I'm not going to begrudge fellow collectors who occasionally make a buck or two back on eBay.
-
The upside to this wave of Thor figures showing up at TJ Maxx & Marshalls is that the increased supply will bring the eBay prices down.
-
Grabbed a King Laufey at TJ Maxx tonight.
-
Managed to find a couple of Laufeys this morning. If anyone is in need, send a PM.
-
lol, and of course I ebayed one last night. oh well! thanks for offering to help other Nick!
I went on a trip today about an hour and a half up into Michigan and I saw that there was a TJ Max about 4 minutes off of my route. I decided to swing by and see if I would be kicking myself out the door by finding a Laufey - I did not. The only Thor line figure there was Hogun.
HOWEVER, I did find a comic colored Sentinel so I happily picked that up! ;D
-
Sorry to go OT, but how much are Sentinels going for at Marshall's? I wouldn't mind adding a couple; I don't care if they're silver.
You know, I saw one this morning and I totally forgot to check the price. But they are turning up!

They are $30

I've found Hogun, King Loki and Laufey. I also grabbed a helmed Thor w/two hammer accessories (can't remember the name) since I never got a helmed Thor figure.
Would love to find the Destroyer figure that's also in this wave.
Too bad Fandral and Volstagg aren't in the case too - would love to complete the Warriors Three....
-
Volstagg is in that case. Fandral was only in wave 2
-
I've seen Volstagg hanging on the pegs along with Laufey and King Loki, too.
-
A buddy of mine grabbed me a King Loki.
-
Found King Loki yesterday at TJ Maxx, and Sif today at Marshalls. Both on beat up cards, but they'll be opened anyway when my son gets them.
-
Sif is turning up too? Interesting. I managed to score that wave when it was current at TRU. But I'm still a little hopeful that the 2nd wave of Deluxe figures which included Heimdall will turn up, too.
-
Crud, I haven't found squat for Thor around here. If anyone finds a spare Sif, can you grab her for me?
-
Because you live in the upper midwest, and you have to compete with all of those Norwegians and Swedes for Thor figures!
-

If I see another, she's yours. Do you care about card condition?

Damn, I really want a Sif. All I saw today was a Destroyer and a Volstagg I think. Maybe it was Fandral, I don't remember now.
-
Found this wave of Thor toys you guys have been talking about...it was at Ollie's here in NY. $4.99 each. Saw Fandral and the Destroyer but passed on them.

-
YES! Finally completed my Thor collection by scoring a Deluxe Heimdall! I wasn't too enthused about going online to find one, but the prices came down and I was able to score one for $25.
Now I have to start wondering what's in store for the line that's got to be in the works for Thor: The Dark World. A new Fandral has been cast (Zachary Levi of Chuck fame), and there are rumors that Viggo Mortenson may have been added to the cast as Dr Strange. Plus, Christopher Eccleston has been cast as Malekith. He, along with Loki, are probably going to be the central villains in this installment.
Also, are we going to see a crossover of figure sculpts from the Avengers line into the lines of characters like Thor and Cap? Because truth be told, the movie sculpt of Thor from the Avengers line was a lot better than almost all of the Thor figures from the first Thor film.
-
Saw King Loki, Hogun, and Fandral/Volstagg today at TJ MAXX. No sign of Sif. :(
-
Its funny to remember these cases were this bad...

That was definitely a pretty suck-a-licious case assortment if there ever was one. But I don't know if any of those various Thor figures was still as ridiculous of a pegwarmer as the Avenger Iron Man (reactron armor). That figure is EVERYWHERE.
-
Saw a different version of the Destroyer today at marshall's called Inferno, all black with some kind of light up chest. Is that thing rare?
-
Saw a different version of the Destroyer today at marshall's called Inferno, all black with some kind of light up chest. Is that thing rare?
Not something I've ever seen. Probably like the last wave of Iron Man stuff they received.
-
I've seen a handful of that version of the Destroyer - mostly at TJ Maxx.
-
Yeah, that version of the Destroyer was basically a comic repaint of the original version. Nothing spectacular, really, and not very rare either.
However, there was another Destroyer released by Hasbro as part of a 6" or 8" figure line. There were just 2 figures in the line: Thor and the Destroyer. And truthfully, that Destroyer is probably closer to the actual scale of the Destroyer as we see it in the Thor film. I only just saw this one recently at 5 Below. And for $5, I felt like a more scale accurate Destroyer would be a nice addition.
Onto more modern Thor goings on, it sounds like more info has been leaked about Thor - The Dark World. And based on that, it may be possible that we could see a Jane Foster figure (Natalie Portman). Will all of the Padme fans here be taking notice in that event?
-
A little bit of a look at Thor - The Dark World (http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/gallery2/album/TF2013-Hasbro-Thor-2-The-Dark-World/) figures from Toy Fair. And it's actually a little bit of a surprise, since the movie is slated for a November release. If anything, I would've thought we would have to wait until SDCC to see these.
There's not much to look at, but the sculpts are a lot better than the Iron Man 3 figures in the 3.75" scale.
-
Found Frost Giant King Laufey at 5 Below for $4. I didn't notice them having Thor figures before. Others were versions of Thor and an Odin.
-
Grabbed Volstagg the Fire Blast Destroyer from Five Below for $4 each today.
They had multiple Ice King Laufey, Asgaard Glow Odin, Hogun and King Loki figures as well. Ironic considering how expensive these figures were on the secondary market last year.

Looks like some old Thor stock has been making it's way onto TRU pegs. I've noticed the Deluxe Lightning Clash Thor turning up recently. But not the rather HTF deluxe Heimdall. And frankly, it's bizarre. This line originally hit stores back in 2011, right?
-
about a month ago I did read someone on another board say that they did find Heimdall.
My store got a case of the first deluxe wave.
wouldn't it be crazy if that claw frost giant showed up somewhere? that is the only figure from the line that never turned up

Good luck on that! The only place I ever saw that was in the Hasbro display case at NY Comic Con. I had no idea that figure was even in the works until I saw it there.
The bargain hunter in me is bummed that I wasn't able to get Heimdall for $9.99 or however much Thor deluxe figures go for. But in the grand scheme of things it was worth it to wait a little while for the secondary market prices to subside, and pay about $25 for Heimdall. All while NOT having to search far and wide for it at retail, and probably saving a comparable ammount of gas money in the process.

I got a deluxe Heimdall from a fellow collector today. He found a few at a local Tuesday Morning.
-
I still wonder if that deluxe Ice Claw Giant figure ever made it into development.....

I saw the one in a Hasbro-Marvel display case at NY Comic Con, and nowhere else. It was never even announced in any Deluxe figure case assortments. Has anyone seen any of the usual Asian eBay suspects auctioning off Thor prototypes?

Hmm, gonna have to check a few local Tuesday Mornings - how long ago did he find it, do you know?

About a week to ten days ago. A friend of mine in Indianapolis found a couple last Friday.

I've seen Heimdall at a couple of TRU stores, too. They're out there.

Figures for Thor - The Dark World (http://marvelousnews.com/ig.php?mode=album&dispsize=600&album=2013_San_Diego_Comic_Con/Hasbro_Thor_Dark_World&start=0&sl=16273) were shown at SDCC, but not so you would've noticed. The sculpts on these look pretty good. I just hope that Hasbro learned some lessons from the first Thor toy line and doesn't flood the market with a dozen different versions of Thor.

Bwah-hahahahahahaha. You crack me up Nick. Habro learning. :D

I still see a lot of Thor and IM figures at Five Below and Ollie's around here. They may have a smaller line but I can't see them not overshipping it and dooming any future waves.
We'll see...

Sorry to pick on your post Nick, I know you know better.
I just have the feeling that a lot of Hasbro's issues with this line and others (let's say 3.75" altogether) are of their own making. I don't really recall all that much of the IM lines and how those distributions were, but Thor, Indiana Jones and many others, at least going back to Episode I have been victims of craptastic case distributions. I don't know who the individual(s) involved with determining the ratios are but hopefully they just keep rolling through people because no one has got it correct for a very long time.
It's nothing new.
Yes, I get the fanboys are a small portion of the market. But they continually overestimate the love of kids for 18 versions of the main character. Kids like to have enemies/villains to fight. It's been happening since us old farts had green and brown army men, nothing is new. Not rocket science. Hell, you're better off having a shortage of basic Thor than you are having an overabundance of him. Supply-demand?
Ah, never mind.
-
I get the sense that perhaps I was still in the halcyon daze of the Avengers line, where the distribution of hero figures was actually somewhat reasonable (except for that one silly Reactron armor Iron Man), and that the Avengers model might serve as a lesson going forward for Hasbro.
But then I snapped out of it.
-

I agree about too many of the same character, but the main characters should never be too hard to find, at least not in their primary attire. Case in point 1980's Kenner Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones was impossible to find (along with Marion Ravenwood). I never saw one when I was a kid. Oh, the fun that might have been had with that figure, instead just had arab disguise Indy and German disguise.
-
Picked up a complete set of five figures from wave 1 of the Thor: The Dark World figure line - they only had one Dark Elf figure and from the case assortments it looks like that's all there is in the wave 1 case.
Are any more figures planned for this line or is this it?
-
Nice! Where did you find those, Pete?

Nice! Where did you find those, Pete?
Oh - sorry - didn't mean to omit that from my post - it was at the Toys R Us near where I work....
-
I found a near complete set yesterday. I got both versions of Thor, Loki and Kurse. The Dark Elf seems like it might be hard to score though, since those are reportedly 1 per case.
-
I haven't even seen pictures of these. Are these 5 POA figures or are they more like Marvel Universe style?
-
Ok, I saw these yesterday too. Is the Dark Elf the same as Kurse? Or are these 2 different figures? Pardon my ignorance but I only know the classic Thor characters from the comics.
I didn't notice what the articulation looked like, sorry.
-
Picked up Kurse, Dark Elf, and cloaked Thor today. Got them at the 7.98 price instead of the 9.99 TRU wanted because they put them on the old Thor pegs without changing the stickers.
-

They are more in-line with the first Thor Movie figures - except none have waist articulation and some (like Kurse) don't have ankle articulation. So they are somewhat in-line with Marvel Universe style.
I wish they had released just a Logan and a Silver Samurai from The Wolverine in this style and not the 5POA junk we got for that movie instead.

Kurse and the Dark Elf are two separate figures/villain characters. I managed to find a Dark Elf for myself the other day. Kind of bummed that this figure is only one per case, because it's pretty cool, and sure enough an army builder.
Kurse is an individual villain who IIRC is a fairly major villain in the Thor storylines. Although I'm surprised that the other main villain from the movie, Malekith, hasn't been represented yet in the figure line. Although I do hold out some hope that he might come in a later wave if the figure line goes beyond this first wave.
-
I bought a Dark Elf at TRU today. Such an interesting design. Thought about Kurse, but I thinl I'll wait on him. These are much more engaging designs to me personally than the last film, which was still pretty cool.
-
Kurse is something like 3 per case in this first wave. Definitely a plentiful figure! Although I recall the comic design for the character being very different.
