Title: DX Series 5 - ?
Post by: tiny on March 26, 2011, 06:46 PM
I'm digging the build-a-something concept, but I'd like to see them come up with some environments.  Here's my new hope...

DX 5 Cantina theme
Cardboard backdrop of cantina environment

Basic figs (with build-a-part)
Wuher (bar middle)
Hammerhead (bar side right)
Dr. Evazan (bar side left)
Han Solo, with some kind of update from S2, ex: pilot gloves & headset (table + seats #1)
Any random cantina patron (table + seats #2)
Cantina Band member with some new instrument (band platform)

Chase figs
Jabba as human, from original scene
Ponda Baba, with severed arm

What do you guys want?

I'd be right on board with that wave, and the build a cantina format. It would be nice to get Evazen and Hammerhead as non-chases.

I'd like to see a DX Endor wave (no room for bad guys in this one ;)):

Basic figures
Lando General
Endor Rebel Trooper
Pruneface
Any new ewok
Leia in celebration gown
Han Solo (At-st driver disguise)

Chases
Logray (Ewoks cartoon version)
Lt. Renz

Build-A-Thing
Shuttle Tyderion (just make it really cute and small)

Backdrop
Ewok treehouse

I wouldn't mind seeing a wave or two from the Clone Wars cartoons. I don't know that I would buy them, or more than the basic sets, but the show has plenty of characters to choose from after 3 years.

As much as I think there are a few holes in the OT for them to fill, re-doing the main characters with vinyl in each wave and having the build-a-? push the price up isn't making me giddy. I wouldn't mind them ditching the dx plan for a bit to make it more affordable.

I'm game for a CW wave:

- Anakin
- Cone Armor Obi-Wan
- Rex
- Mandalorian
- Cad Bane
- Ahsoka

I'd even be cool with the variants being other clones like Cody.

Title: Deluxe Series 5 - ???
Post by: Jonny on March 21, 2012, 06:23 AM
Anyone know when we are likely to get an update on this one? It feels strange having nothing on the horizon...

I just want them to release new kubricks. Anything will do just to show the line isn't dead which it is at the moment.

Is there nothing coming out? Wow...I didn't realsie things were that bad...

We've really only been getting a new series about once per year, with some scattered carded figures here and there.  It's not that there isn't anything new coming in the short term, its that nothing has been announced.  We knew about the prior sets maybe a year in advance, so the concern is that if/when they ever announce anything new, we'll still be a year away from seeing it.   :'(

What's coming out then?

As I said, nothing's been announced yet, so who knows.  I would expect to see some carded figures on the way though.  I don't think we typically hear about those until fairly close to their release.  I would be surprised to see any series of SW figures again this year though.

Rhetorically speaking, do we really want more than a deluxe series a year? At $250 a chase on top of the increase cost of just a basic set it's kind of a blessing.

There's plenty of time for Medicom to announce a fifth DX series and have it out at the end of the year/early 2013. With a couple of carded convention exclusives sprinkled in in between.

Speaking of, Medicom's monthly update is today and no kubs.

I just hope they're cooking something up for us. The lowered production and the R2 chase of DX4 seemed like bad omens to me.

Are there any conventions/festivals coming up where Medicom has previously unveiled stuff?

Amen.  I was not very excited about DX1 or DX4, but I've really liked them once I had them in hand.  The chases were a bit of a let down this time, but Hammerhead, AT-ST Driver, and Hoth Rebel were all pretty sweet.  Even the Red Cape Bib is nice.  I would be okay with the DX series or going back to the regular versions.  Honestly, I'm not so sure moving back down to the regular series would drive the chase figures to a lower cost.  I would rather have more chase figures than the BAF personally, but I like all of the BAFs they've done, so no complaints.  It would be great to get a Bespin wave with more of the vinyl cape figures next, but I just hope there is something/anything on the horizon.  I have to think they're still making good money on these.  The last wave sold out pre-orders with US retailers within days.

the vinyl has been a great direction IMO, and getting Lando (vinyl), bespin Leia (vinyl), Lobot, and another shot at shiny 3-PO in parts would be nice. Plus the Bespin guard and Ugnaught are still waiting for their bricky release. I have a feeling Luke would end up in the wave, maybe in a little rougher shape than the series 4 release. I don't know what would make a good BAF though- the circular walkway where Vader tells Luke about that two faced Obi-Wan would be pretty cool, but seems pretty unlikely.

I struggled with that too.  Not a very interesting piece.  They could do the Freezing Chamber or the Han Torture chair too, but meh...kinda boring.  I'd love a Cloud Car or little Slave-I, but that seems too big.  They could stray to Hoth and give us a Taun Taun...it's not like we ever saw a probe droid on the Death Star.

The same Parco Toy Exhibition (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=21676.0) Medicom has every year. It's usually late July or August.
