The Wookiee Arcade / Which one's the best?
« on: October 2, 2005, 02:54 PM »
I just got this thought while watching the new Battlefront 2 trailer.  The announcer says that Battlefront is the highest selling Star Wars game of all time.  It's a great game, but is it the best?  What are your thoughts?

Just list which game you think is the best, and why.  I think it would be interesting to see everyone's opinions on this one.  Although I'm tempted to just put Force Commander down for Jesse James so he doesn't have to type anything!   ;)

For me, actually it's a toss up between Jedi Outcast and Knights of the Old Republic.  While I love playing Battlefront for hours on end online in multi-player.  These two games have amazing and compelling storylines in them, huge levels and especially with KOTOR, the chance to play it over and over with different results.

Jocasta's Reading Room / Post NJO books--The Dark Nest Trilogy
« on: August 16, 2005, 06:05 PM »
I know I read an article that new books were going to come out and would take place after the NJO series.  Anyone have a list of titles?  Or a link perhaps?

The Wookiee Arcade / ICONS: Star Wars Games
« on: August 10, 2005, 09:54 PM »
I don't know if any of you watched the show Icons on G4 Tv, but tonight's episode was a history of Lucasarts' Star Wars titles.  They talked about the highpoints (Dark Forces, the X-wing/TIE Fighter series, and KOTOR) and the lows (Force Commander {Sorry Jesse}, Masters of Teras Kasi, and Power Battles).

I thought it was pretty interesting, and if you missed it, it'll be on again 14 August.

Star Wars Universe / Revenge of the Sith made all EU wrong!
« on: August 8, 2005, 01:22 AM »
Well, from Heir of the Empire on anyway.

Yoda said that Qui-Gon Jinn found a path to imortality, so basically, anyone who learned this from him (Yoda, Obi-Wan and in a round about way Anakin) would be around forever.

In Heir to the Empire, Obi-Wan appears to Luke Skywalker in a dream and says that the bonds between him and Luke was going away and he would not be able to communicate with him anymore thus leaving Luke on his own to restore the Jedi order to the galaxy.

Bull-****.

If we go by what ROTS puts forth, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Anakin and even Qui-gon could be around to advise Luke and the other Jedi in all the problems of what the Jedi should do, act and whatnot throughout every EU story post ROTJ!

Now I'm not going on some crazy book burning crusade or anything, personally there are many EU stories I really enjoy, but this little tidbit's been kind of bugging me lately.  Granted none of the authors knew that this was how GL was going to establish how there could be Jedi spirits running around in the OT, but they could've made it possible to communicate with them, and possibly even train the technique to future Jedi.

Think of how different the NJO series would've been if we could've seen Anakin Solo again?

Oh well, I just thought I'd share my thoughts on this and hear what the rest of you would have to say on the subject.  :)

Watto's Junk Yard / Firefly / Serenity
« on: July 15, 2005, 09:37 PM »
I never watched this show when it was on Fox, but I saw the trailer for the movie Serenity when I saw ROTS.

I'e been thinking about getting a set of the Firefly show on dvd to see it, but I just saw that the Sci Fi channel will be showing the entire series starting next Friday.

Anyone here ever watch the show before?  It looks pretty cool, but I'd like to hear a review from someone who's seen it before.  Spoiler free please.

The Wookiee Arcade / Anyone else get this message?
« on: May 25, 2005, 05:33 PM »
I recent;y got an e-mail from a globaltestmarket.com saying that Lucasarts has hired a thirdparty for some feedback for KOTOR II.  Here's the body of the message:

LucasArts has hired a third party, Nielsen Interactive Entertainment, to ask gamers to tell us what they think about Knights Of The Old Republic II

Please spend a few moments answering our online survey questionnaire and help us make better games!

I'm curious to know if this is legit, or am I just setting myself up to getting some sort of spyware on my computer or ending up with all sorts of spam sent to my computer by ending up on some mailing list by clicking on the link.

Anyone know?????

Toy Reviews / ARC-170 Fighter
« on: April 30, 2005, 06:37 PM »
Now that I finally have some pilots for this fighter, I thought I'd write a small review of it.

Scale:  I think this vehicle is in perfect scale for the 3 3/4" figures.  The three pilots fit in it quite well, and so does the R4 unit (I put in the ROTS Preview R4 unit).  From the footage of the fighter in the trailers, I think Hasbro got this one dead on the mark.

Detail:  There's a lot of detail in this fighter, but I think there could be more.  They gave quite a bit of decals for this, but in the second seat (the Nav/WSO/EWO guy), there's two raised spots on the console, but there are no decals for them.  I think they would've been perfect for some kind of decals for some displays, but there are none.  There is also nothing in the tailgunner position, but I tink if there was actually something in there, the figure would not fit.

Playability:  I think this is one of Hasbro's best works to date!  There's tons of it for a kid to do.  The most interesting feature is the handle that actually folds into the ship, and was not made as part of the landing gear that has been done in previous vehicles (the Imperial Shuttle readily comes to mind).  There is also a trigger on the handle that drops the proton torpedo "Bombs" and the large wing-mounted guns also have firing projectiles that go pretty far!  (Another feature that scared my cat!)  My only complaint here is that the socket for the droid is a little too big, so the droid can fall out if you invert the fighter during a dogfight.

Overall:  This is the best vehicle Hasbro has made in the ROTS line that I have pilots for!  I'm guessing that the Obi-Wan starfighter will surpass this one once I get a pilot for it, but until then, this one reigns supreme!  5/5!

The Wookiee Arcade / Dark Forces Mod for Jedi Academy!
« on: April 30, 2005, 06:13 PM »
I stumbled across this while downloading a patch for Battlefront.  It's the first few levels of Dark Forces but created for the updated grapics of Jedi Academy!  It's not without a few bugs, as read about on the page, but it still looks pretty interesting.

You can view/download it here.

Anyone try it yet???

Watto's Junk Yard / Thank You God for my Jeep!
« on: April 28, 2005, 10:10 AM »
We're having another batch of lovely weather here in the Colorado/Wyoming part of the country....April 28th and it's snowing!  Well, I get up this morning at 4 am to go PT this morning and I had enough "OH ****" moments that I didn't need to do any cardio today!  :o

I bought a Jeep Liberty when I got here (my Lt Mobile) and it's the first 4-wheel drive vehicle I've ever owned.  It's awesome in this kind of weather, increases your traction by 1000%.  Just remember zero multiplied by 1000 is STILL ZERO!  Every overpass on I-25 was nothing but ice under slush....and I swear I saw about 30 cars off in the median or off to the side of the road.  Luckily, CDOT and WYDOT are great at helping stranded/unsuspecting motorists, otherwise I'd never have gotten to base because I would've been helping everybody!

Anyhow, just a little safety tip from you're Uncle Matt...be careful out there!   ;D

« on: April 23, 2005, 01:46 PM »
Due out this fall, it looks like there are some good improvements to an already great game!

Check out the Official Site for some screenshots and news.  They have some shots already of a Tantive IV level, Death Star Level and even some space battles!

Already this game is better than Force Commander!  ;D

Toy Reviews / AT-RT Review
« on: April 21, 2005, 11:15 PM »
I managed to finally find one of these today and figured I'd share a few thoughts on the figure/vehicle.

Driver:  This has to be one of the most craptacular figures I have ever seen.  The figure has 5 points of articulation, Head, Shoulders waist and right elbow....that's it.  So, basically, the figure can only sit on the AT-RT.  I've heard rumors that the paint on this figure is hit or miss from some earlier reports from people who found it on 2 April, but the ones I saw at Target today were just fine IMO.

Vehicle: For a small vehicle, it's pretty cool.  Not a whole lot of detail in the sculpt of the parts, and not much paint, but it has it where it counts.  There's a small painted display between the "handle bars" which looks pretty neat.  There's also a pivoting Chin Gun and a walking feature which requires two AA batteries.  The walking feature is what makes this vehicle worht having IMO.  It works great on tile/wood floors or couter/desk tops, and I evenhad it walking on the carpet in my place, albiet not as well as the non-carpeted floor.  Really freaked out my cat too!   ;D

Overall, I'd give this figure/vehicle a 3 out of 5.  There's a lot of playability with the vehicle, but the one-dimensionality of the figure brings it down.  If they had made the legs articulated so the figure could be on it's own away from the vehicle, this thing would be great!

I'll make one thread for this and post my review of each car as I get them.  Today I received the Episode 3 Program car, 1:24 Scale.

Packaging:  Very Nice, although there's no window to view the vehicle, the packaging has the Revenge of the Sith look similar to the Carded figures with Vader's head over the boiling Lava.  The car is packed in a form fitting styrofoam inlay to the box itself and also inside a soft bag...similar to cheese-cloth to keep it from being scratched.

Paint: The paint scheme on this thing is awesome!  The primary color scheme is black, with red along the bottom as well as the sides of the roof.  The hood has the Star Wars Logo in color and a greyscale picture of Darth Vader's Helmet with flames behind it.  On either side there is a side shot of Vader's head with flames coming out of it right by the car's number 05, although they look metallic and bolted onto the car, just paint but a nice effect nonetheless.  There is also a Star Wars Racing logo over the rear tire and a Vader Logo on the back.  The hood has the 05 number and the release date of the film.  The Trunk has the Star Wars Logo, and the hind end has another Darth Vader head, with the metallic flame design coming out of each side.

Detail:  There is plenty of detail on this car.  The hood and trunk open to reveal the engine and the contents of the trunk, which looks like a fuel cell.  There are also two roof flaps that open.  The interior has some incredible detail right down to the dashboard guages.  Also, the safety net on the driver's window is much softer and realistic to the previous cars.  Even the undercarriage shows the exhaust and suspension system in greater detail than previous years.  There are even tiny goodyear decals on the bottom of the tires like you'd see on new tires!

Overall:  I give this car a 5 out of 5.  If the program car is any indication of the rest of the series, these will be the best of my car collection!

The Prequel Trilogy / Parallels between the PT and the OT
« on: April 8, 2005, 03:01 PM »
I'm sure most of you have picked up on this, but I thought it would be kinda cool to point some of them out.

First Movie:
- An older Jedi Master dies at the hand of a sith lord.
- There is a celebration ceremony at the closing credits showing our heroes on a dais.
- Skywalker destroys the Enemy's major weaopn by some nonconventional tactic.
- Skywalker leaves Tatooine and feels some sort of loss

Second Movie:
- There's a space battle in an asteroid field.
- Skywalker, the heroine, R2 and Threepio stare out at an uncertain future before the closing credits.
- Skywalker loses part of an arm.
- R2-D2 has to Put C-3PO back together.
- The lower ranking Sith Lord tries to get a Jedi Hero to join him.

I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of them right now.  I'm also not going to touch the ROTJ/ROTS similarities just because I'm trying to stay away from Spoilers, although I can readliy point to a lightsaber battle that looks errily familiar from the previews.

Can you think of any I missed????
