This figure is a re-release (I am told), but I wasn’t a collector at the time it was originally released so it’s actually “new” to me. It’s also my only OT Threepio, so forgive me if I like it more than it deserves.

Articulation is understandably limited – head, hips, right shoulder, arm removable at left shoulder. I still managed to find a cool pose for him though, which I’m fairly sure is in the film (though even if it isn’t, I’m still very happy with it). His left arm locks in 4 forward positions so you can have the classic both arms down look, or have him in a “get lost you pesky Tusken Raider” pose as in my picture.

I personally love the tarnishing effects on C-3PO’s gold paint, and the spots of sun-dried machine oil. The gold is diffused with spots of “sand”, which I think is a nice, movie-realistic, touch. I was slightly disappointed by his eyes since they appear to be missing their yellow lights, although perhaps this just a bad paint job on mine? I also would have liked the gold to be a bit stronger, and he appears to be missing his silver leg. Overall though, I think the high level of detail and classic elbows-outward stance help to make up for these flaws.

Hasbro have packed-in a clear stand, and I don’t know why, but having “Star Wars” embossed on it made me very chuffed (in “English” English it means it engendered a stupid smile, or simply put, just made me “pleased”).  Not as classy or solid as a RealAction Stand, but a nice added extra, which appears to have the ability to lock into other stands or perhaps some sort of playset base. Important to note is that if you don’t want to use the stand, Threepio keeps upright very well on his own.

Not much more to say really, just a classic OT character done very well. I like it, anyway
