Title: Fate of the Jedi
Post by: Matt_Fury on March 13, 2009, 04:49 PM
The next chapter of EU is about to begin.  Looks like there will be a serious Anti-Jedi backlash after the fall of Darth Caedus.

Book 1 due out 24 March (http://www.amazon.com/Outcast-Star-Wars-Fate-Jedi/dp/0345509064/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1236972682&sr=1-1)

Book 2 due out 23 June (http://www.amazon.com/Omen-Star-Wars-Fate-Jedi/dp/0345509129/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1236972682&sr=1-2)

Book 3 due out 25 August (http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Fate-Jedi-Abyss/dp/0345509188/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1236972682&sr=1-3)

I'm looking forward to reading these since the Legacy of the Force series ended so quickly.

I can't wait either. I didn't reaalize this series was starting so soon. I thought it was May. Guess I got my "M" months mixed up.

Hmmmn...no paperback editions and I only buy paperback now.    ???  Looks like I'll be about 6-12 months behind all of the other EU fans (as usual).

I finished Outcast today.  Pretty good story so far, I'm looking forward to the next two books.

I finished it yesterday and I disagree. Other than what's happening with Luke I think the rest of it is not setting up for much of a series. Certainly not after the Vong and then Caedus.

Does anyone in the know have any idea when these will be released in Paperback?

The rule of thumb is about a year.

I'm excited to pick up Omen after work. The cover has intrigued me. And you know what they say about judging a book by it's cover. "Always do because it doesn't matter what's on the inside". Or maybe the saying goes differently......  ;)

My wife picked it up for me today.  I now have something to do in line tomorrow in anticipation for Transformers in IMAX.

I've read about half the 236 page "Omen" book and really wondering where the justification of this being a $25 hardcover is coming from.

Less than 30 pages left in the book and I can only assume these last handful of pages are going to be the most enthralling and action packed SW book pages ever for me to have paid the B&N hardcover price.

Just Finished Omen. Now I'm waiting for them to send me my $18 check since the book should have only been a $8 paperback.

This was the worst/uncalled for hardcover SW book I've ever read.

It was short, but I like where the story is going so far.  I like the tie in to KOTOR with the stranded tribe of ancient Sith on Kesh.

Just an FYI. The "Abyss" book is coming out on Aug. 18th now for anyone who cares and wanted to know it's a week ahead of the original post.

I have really enjoyed this series so far, especially the story with Luke and Ben. I have read the Lost Tribe of the Sith e-books too and it helped me enjoy Omen more.  I do think that this being a harcover series is a bummer because I collect all the books in paperback. I have to check the books out of the library and then wait for them to come out in paperback later.  Which I obviously have to do every once in a while with other SW books but a whole series. . .come on that just sucks.

I did meet Aaron Allston at SDCC just barely and he was really cool and nice. Can't wait to read Abyss here soon.

Another FYI. I don't know about the rest of you but I almost always have to buy my SW books (if I want them the day they come out) at Barnes & Noble or Borders and they are like $25 for a hardcover. But thankfully this time it looks like "Abyss" will be available at Target for just $18.70 even though they didn't have the first two books in the series. So it's like getting a free paper back or a 1/4 of the 12th season of "The Simpsons" for free tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up Nick!  Target's on my way home...the Barnes and Noble is a bit of a drive.

I'm a little over half way done with "Abyss" and in my opinion it is ten times better than "Omen" was already. I was a little worried so I'm glad to feel that way.

See, I am the exact opposite.  I always wait for the paperbacks, so I'm a good 6-12 months behind on most novels.   :-\  Without giving anything away from the plot, how would you compare this to the New Jedi Order or Legacy of the Force books?

To me this "Fate" series doesn't hold a candle to the other two, especially NJO.

Finished Abyss today and it was pretty good.  I didn't realize there is going to be a 4th book, but it doesn't come out until March!

Finished "Abyss". Good, not great, but I'm actually looking forward to the fourth book which I couldn't say after the first two.

That really sucks that it is such a long wait. Especially considering how little time there was between the other three books.

It turns out the reason for the break was because the author, Aaron Alston, had a heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery!

Backlash came out yesterday for anyone who forgot.  I picked it up and I'm about 3 chapters in.  Not bad so far.

Sounds like a good reason for there to be a delay.

I picked the book up yesterday. Now I just need to find the opportunity to acually read it. I've got Darth Bane 3 waiting too.

Just finished reading Vortex and I am enjoying this series so far (which isn't too hard for me since I enjoy most everything SW that I read).  I do think LOTF and the NJO were better series and I am re-reading LOTF now since there is so much time between these FOTJ books

I finished Vortex earlier in the week.  I like where the story is going but not too happy how they portrayed Kenth Hamner.

How many folks have been reading this series?  I've read all of the series so far and can hardly wait for the conclusion this March.

I was and actually have all the books, but have fallen behind. I think I have read the first 4. I plan to get going again soon.

Gonna get back into this series. Just started "Backlash". Why do I post? Because I don't know for sure which books I've read in this series. I see I posted I read "Abyss" but nothing after that. I thought I was four books in, but don't recognize the synopsis of "Backlash". Shows how bad my memory is or how little the series has grabbed me so far. Anyway now I won't be able to forget where I am.

The series started a bit slow, but it has really gotten good with one book left.

Finished "Backlash". I'm taking your word that these are going to get good at some point. I've said this like 90 times, but I can't believer these are all hard cover books. I remember in series when only the books that had some major event happen, ie big death, etc. were hardcover and the books that just continued the series were paperback.

Finished "Conviction". Not sure when I'm going to get to start "Ascension".
Title: Re: Fate of the Jedi

Finished "Ascension". I am interested to see where this will now lead. Wish they had got to this point sooner than with one book left. I saw the Abeloth/Roki Kem thing coming the minute Abeloth was fascinated by her on the "TV" inside Ship.

It makes me laugh in a annoyed way at how easy it is to become the leader of the Galaxy in these books. How many different coups were going on that all were working out?

And I'm still not sure I'm a fan of Abeloth. She's too................... I don't know what, but there's something about her abilities and how powerful she is, etc. I still don't buy into.

Anyway, looks like I will have to buy "Apocalypse" new and not wait to get it used.

Looking forward to picking up "Apocalypse" tomorrow. Interesting to see how this series ends. Kind of bad timing for my reading schedule right now, but I'll force time somewhere.

I've only managed to get about 170 pages into "Apocalypse" so far, but I keep alternating between excitement to find out what Abeloth is and fear because of how outlandish I expect it to be.

I have a feeling Matt is the only other person reading this book and you are probably done, but just in case spoiler alert.......

(I vomited a little when the Killiks showed up. Man I hated those books)

I've been playing Mass Effect 3, and I think you are farther than I am at this point.

I'm avoiding your spoiler.

Done with "Apocolypse". I'd give it a B-. Won't say anything as far as spoilers go.

There was some interesting stuff. The force balance thing and the stuff from the CW cartoon (I'll keep it at that to stay away from spoilers) not so sure about what to think. Which coincides with what Abeloth is. I know most SW stuff isn't "realistic" but felt that stuff was little outside the realm of what I like imagining is real in the SW world.

Interesting to see where they go next.

And on a random note, I miss Vergere. I've always wanted to know more about her and was hoping she would somehow have had something to do with what was going on in these books and we'd learn more about her. I know that doesn't make a ton of sense, but with the little bit of Jacen stuff and the Luke stuff all originating from trying to find out why Jacen did what he did I thought maybe she'd be a part of it. Oh well.

Edit-I had a feeling some of the stuff at the end was part of who the "Legacy" comic stuff was about. Guess I should have read those. And sort of kind Vergere-ish stuff plays a role.

OK conversation with self over.

I finished the Apocalypse tonight.  I thought it was a good book, and the series overall was decent.  They have definitely left it open for a new series and it will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

I like how they tied in The Old Republic, The Clone Wars Cartoon, most of the Post ROTJ EU and the Legacy comics into one series.  Some of it was a bit of a stretch at times (like the Darth Krayt portion) but they had hinted at the One Sith earlier when Ship returned to Korriban....so I wasn't rolling my eyes too much.

Some things that need to be addressed in future books:

- Somehow, Jagged Fell has to become the Head of State for the Empire again.
- Where did Vetara Khai end up?
- What will happen with the remnants of the Lost Tribe?
- Where will Daala end up?
- Allana has been revealed to have survived.  How will this play out with the Throne of Balance vision?

I guess we'll have to buy more books down the road.
