I'm still hoping that they'll offer a "bag-o-parts" or box set option of all the parts at some point. There is no way anyone is going to be able "collect" these if the parts are just dumped whole-sale into bins.

For the collectors, I hope they make some kind of B-A-D Box set containing one of each unique part. They could probably make a mint selling those too.
too bad there will not be any protocol type droids - but I guess I can understand given the costs involved for the articulation
I'm hoping my Disney connection comes through for me on this one because, well, I just love these... don't even need the hats. Just love the droids. Purple R3? Cool beans.
Love the colors on those... No plan of ever going to DW or DL before I die though, so yeah, if I can't find an outlet for these I'm hosed I guess. :-\

What does an R8 and R9 dome look like?
I'm hoping my Disney connection comes through for me on this one because, well, I just love these...
How much do you love them? If that second RS rumor report (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Disney_Parks_BYO_Droid_Bins_Something_Cooler_144320.asp) is true, there are 25 different heads, meaning there could be as many as 25 basic droids to complete (unless some colors match existing droids). If the (rumored) $10-12 each price is accurate, it could get pretty spendy to buy them all.
~snip~
The R9 domes are the orange one in the back wearing the blue Mickey ears and, judging by the RS rumor list, the blue one that is just out of frame on the bottom.
Are all of these parts totally random or can they be assembled into droids that at least make sense?
Oh man, this is going to be very messy if they are being released in a few days. Panic, scalpers and frantic forum outrage could be coming. Difficult the future is to see, always in motion...
You forgot about the part about dogs and cats living together and mass hysteria!
Don't forget to add admission to the park into your tally. Currently $90.
Hense you can see how much of a pain in the ass buying Disney exclusives for everyone is.
There is a permanent fixture in the Tatooine Traders shop at the exit of Star Tours. You can’t miss it as it faces the attraction exit. In keeping with the storyline of the shop, it is modeled after young Anakin Skywalker’s workbench. I just returned from the opening this morning and it looks awesome!
Currently, we are only introducing the Droid Factory at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Provided it’s popular with guests, we may consider additional locations.
One of the original concepts was to model it after the create-your-own Mr. Potato Head from Once Upon a Toy. Yet, it was decided to build individual figures to add a more personal connection (you can create a unique figure that you can name).
We knew we could milk Star Wars fans of all their money by going this route.
Quotepersonal connection (you can create a unique figure that you can name).
but really I am sure he meant to say:QuoteWe knew we could milk Star Wars fans of all their money by going this route.
Pete, I don't know if there's a limit to how many of these you can buy, but if it were unlimited and you did all the driving/purchasing, etc., I'm sure people wouldn't mind paying extra to off-set your costs in order to get these.
don't forget to include the cost of a therapist into your numbers... I imagine it would be crazy plus sooooo time consuming attempting to build them all with so many people around
Also, the picture shown is not really adding up with the 71 parts/25 domes numbers that have been going around. There's 23 domes there, but only about 50 total parts. Kind of an odd breakdown.
I'm not sure if it matters to you Pete_, but they mentioned in the blog that not all of the hats are available now, some will come later in the summer. I just hope they have all the regular parts too if you're going through all that effort to get these . 'Good luck, you're gonna need it.'
Actually between the group photo and the two packaged samples, I have been able to account for all 71 pieces...

Adam Pawlus has a good article estimating how much it would most likley cost to complete...$1k.
Don't forget to add admission to the park into your tally. Currently $90.
Good point - I meant to put it in there, but forgot - so that means it's more like $900 for a set of 50 droids which would mean roughly $18/droid.
Or if I drove it - which I am contemplating...
$480 for the droids
$220 for the gas
$100 to get in the park
$50 tolls
Total: $850 / 50 = $17/figure
I could shave a few bucks off if I just doubled up the duplicates into the same 2-packs so instead of it being 24 2-packs and 2 single packs, it would just be 25 2-packs - that brings the droid price down to $473.
Keeping in mind that the droid purchase prices don't include tax either.... :-X
The one positive to just driving it would be that I wouldn't have to worry about how to get all of them home on the plane.
I just wish they had released, as an option, a box set of all 70 parts.... >:(
Don't forget, there was a list of parts posted earlier in the thread... only thing missing form that list is the little hats, the 8 that you have listed Pete.

My experience with Disney is there is always more in the back. I've seen it at a point where one thing bought and the CM immediately fill the spot. The mouse will not turn down a buck.

Ultimately, that is my hope - considering how much I'm looking to buy, they will "magically" find a lot of the parts I'm looking for.
I'm trying to remain as optimistic as possible right now, I'll let everyone know much later today whether that optimism won out or not.
So is the pricing as noted in the Ultimate Orlando blog (http://ultimateorlando.blogspot.com/2012/05/droid-factory-now-open-in-tattoine.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=kevin+yee) correct? They noted it costs $11.95 to make one droid, or $18.95 for two.
Please remember this is not aimed at consumers or collectors. Just like the build a lightsaber before it, this is aimed as a fun experience for tourists to do on vacation. It's not designed for the obsessed collector.
Thanks for all of the updates Pete.
I am shocked these did not pop up on eBay yet as I have been looking. I hope some etailors or Disney themselves can help out collecting these. This will be a long haul to collect the series but eventually I can see these showing up at Toy shows and comic cons at jacked up prices.
Unlike Pete, I have a wife who would probably as soon divorce me as allow me to travel to FL to buy stuff like this. :-[

What a headache. I don't even know how to go about collecting these to keep the collection complete.
One of each part maybe?

Yeah, if I were collecting them I would go for one of each part. Probably some reuse of bodies or heads where needed to make a full droid that kind of fits together.
Yep...
So, anyone heading to Disney willing to pick up one of each droid part for me? :)
My friend Kevin Yee has pictures of the build a droid booth over at WDW. It's basically lots of bins of parts.
It costs $11.95 to make one droid, or $18.95 for two.

I know somebody that goes twice a year.
And gets the wife to agree to it by taking her with him.
Plus they sell alcohol there, a great ally in unauthorized spending.
Would it cost less without the mickey hats or does it not work by the part but by the droid only? I know I wouldn't care about those.
Got some more pics of the workbench w/o anyone obstructing the view - I will be sending them to Jeff shortyl...
Great review Pete! Did the build a droid replace the build a lightsaber display?
At some point a master picture/combo list is really needed for this line.
I can't imagine the headache I might feel trying to track all the different droids to be made, if I was there, I'd probably make a handful of droids, and then slam a beer for each one.
So that's 56 parts out of 71 that I can photograph and put up somewhere.
You've still got my e-mail addy - if you take the pictures, we'd be glad to host/post an archive of close-ups of the different parts. ;)
I was interested in your comments about the different tones of the red, blue, and green parts. Any chance you might be able to do a side-by-side with the previous R2-R9, R3-M3, etc?
So, being that the torso is BAD, I wonder what the price would be if someone were to build a monster droid (with four arms)? Would it be more, or would it be the same if the person skipped out on a middle leg and hat?

My guess is if a kid made a droid with four arms, middle leg and hat, Disney is going to let him do it. It is about the experience and magic of making something at the Magic Kingdom. Disney isn't going to quival over fifty cents of plastic because a kid was creative.
Yeah, but what about a collector trying to squeeze more pieces in? I wonder if there are instructions or guidelines at the station that tell you how to build the droid (i.e. use 2 legs, 1 head, etc.).

Thanks for the posting the pictures, Pete! While I'm really liking the look of the all red droid w/red dome, I'm kinda put off by the fact the parts won't work with previous pieces the same color.
Great pics, Pete! I was kind of hoping that there would be R5 parts that could build R5-U8 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/R5-U8) from Clone Wars, but that appears to not be the case.
I got one of each color and style of piece offered. I had to use a few more bodies and legs to finish up a droid. All in all it made 14 droids for the time being. The light blue astromech body and head are not there yet. The other novelty hats and EU domes won't be released till later to make you have to go a second trip. Hahaha!
I wouldn't be suprised to see a third theme park within the next ten years.
Just saw pics of the new Disney BAD cards on the otheR site. They're pretty cool! Really small, not much bigger than the bubble.
Man, imagine the worst-case situation where Disney decides to scrap the BAD station because it's just too much hassle. Pete could retire easily on the fortune he'd accrue selling off his droids (if his OCD would let him sell his that is :P). ;)
I cannot believe the prices these things are already going for on eBay - $190 for 5 droids? (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PICK-FIVE-Star-Wars-DROID-FACTORY-Disney-Weekends-TOURS-Exclusive-Build-Figure-/120938447542?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item1c287e42b6) ::)
These things are the crack cocaine of star wars collecting.
Here's a group shot I took of all my droids....
I'm still praying these find their way into next year's supposed B-A-D line (sans silly hats)...
Does this mean you'll be heading back down there again soon, Pete? :-X
Retail price?
Ok - here are the pics of my droids - sorry there are so many...
Phew!!! 98 Droids done (49 in clamshell, 49 open)
If I recall from C6 right, they're coming to Anaheim in 2013.
Retail price?
Roughly 49 2-packs x $22/pack = $1080
That's with Florida sales tax. It does not include the extra $$$ I gave the guy who helped me out and saved me from having to make another trip.
What's the total number of droids and the total price?
Were the boxed Star Tours sets marked down? I think I heard that somewhere...
Disney Droids are, for some odd reason, some of my favorite pieces I have. Love sneaking them in with random figures like they're following them around or something.
California - Build a Droid at Disneyland is inside the park at Star Traders only.
Florida - Build a Droid at WDW is outside the park at Once Upon a Toy in Downtown Disney.
It is also inside Disney Hollywood Studios park in Tatooine Traders.
It looks pretty long term. Disney doesn't do sales in the parks.
It's only in park at the Star Trader. Also Disney just raised the price this week to one for $12.95. 3 for $19.95.
I'm thinking about driving out there this Christmas when I'm back in Tampa for the holidays. Is it reasonable to expect the build a droid to still be a thing at that point?
I would think so. The space at Tatooine Traders is pretty much smack-dab in the middle of the store, so they'd seriously have to renovate to get rid of it.
Your best/better bet is to head to Once Upon a Toy at Downtown Disney, they have a four-person build station that's pretty much right in the middle of all the Star Wars merchandise. Also, they have attendants who are more than willing to go into the stockroom and locate any parts that might not be out on the floor for you. That was my experience last year, I will be back there in June for the final Star Wars weekend, I'll update this thread if my experience is any different.
Okay, thanks. I think I need to start saving my pennies... I'm hoping to put together one droid of each distinct color scheme / pattern - if that's even an easy thing to sort through and figure out.
I briefly saw Scott post in the thread you linked to that he's going with only new domes... how many of those are there?
Pete, are you going to Disneyworld or Disneyland? We are flying into DW on 6/4...
I've never seen anything new as far as parts are concerned.
Pete, are you going to Disneyworld or Disneyland? We are flying into DW on 6/4...
We're going to Disneyworld - flying in on the 11th.
Sorry, all the BAD parts will be sold out by the time you arrive. >:D
Have you found any difference between the selection at downtown Disney vs. the Jawa Trader or Darth's Mall? Just wondering if I should plan for my shopping at one vs. the other.
New parts coming to Disney BAD...
Was there any information on when these would be hitting the parks?
Really? These R6 and R9 droids that are part of the theme park program are tied in to Rebel pilots from TFA? WTF?!?!
Seconded.
I always wanted more of the Disney Droids (I only have two of the 25 domes :(), but somehow these feel more like of a WANT/NEED and not "nice to have" like the last series because at least some of them are actual character droids from the movies. :-\
When to Disneyland last night and picked up the droids for those that emailed me.
The Star Trader only had the new sets of parts. The droid bodies are still the BAD sculpts but they removed the lower hole on the side. Also there is now only one leg instead of a left and right version. They removed the wires around the lower leg. This should make it easier for lay people to build a droid without two left legs. Also the hats are brand new. They include a Oswald the Lucky Rabbit hat, sumbraro, imperial officer hat and a regular Mickey hat. I think that was all of them. The old two pack clam shells are gone. They only have the one droid version.
Paul do they still sell the starspeeder? Just curious.
Not at all what I wanted to hear. :-\
If it makes you feel better Rob, Wave 2 is technically NOT a Hasbro product. Sure, Disney took inspiration from the old Hasbro parts, but these new Wave 2 toolings (bodies, legs, hats) are all Disney at this point - there is now Hasbro copyright on them.
I gave up on these long ago. I'd buy a "one of each part" set if they ever made it, but I'm not going to let not having them bug me too much.
Ugh. Good lord.
Anyone seen a nice, comprehensive list of the new parts/colors. I can't really tell what all is new from that little pic further back in this thread... I'd like to know whats out there before I go hassling Paul with requests. ;)
Wave 1: 25 Domes 13 Trunks 20 Left & Right Legs 5 Middle Legs 8 Hats Total: 71 Parts | Waves 2/3: 25 Domes 14 Trunks 12 Left & Right Legs 7 Middle Legs 7 Hats Total: 65 Parts |
I believe this is the list
Thanks for the offer again!
I grabbed ahsoka's droid off ebay last night for a reasonable price.
Wow! I don't even have all of the first wave yet. Don't know if I'll ever be able to pick all these up. :'(
Thanks for the offer again!
I grabbed ahsoka's droid off ebay last night for a reasonable price.
What's the actual name of this droid? I need one too!
Seeing pictures like this make me want to break from my current only "cannon" droid pledge. Just saw that my holo r2 was delivered today. Placed an order for a r2d60 which should arrive next week (hey looks like I broke my cannon pledge already). I'm liking that r4 d23 droid too, colors are interesting.
Sooo...late to the party and forgive if this has been said but if I'm a canon purist (Movies and Toons)...what droids do I need to get (no r6s, r7s etc) that hasn't been released before...
I see Goldie and Ahsokas R7...any help?

Holy crap Pete - how many droids did you buy?
4 - Wave 1 Droids at Once Upon a Toy
108 - Wave 2 Droids at Tatooine Traders/Darth's Mall
So, over $1200 worth of BAD. You are hard core my friend!
I bet there is a trash can with a lot of clam shells in it at Disney World. I hate how at Disneyland they make you put each droid in a clam shell to buy it because that is where the SKU price is. Seems like such a waste.
I'm impressed Pete, you kept the clam shells. Did you name them all? ;) Around here we have R9-Rachel and R8-Princess.
Merry Christmas! Disney is wishing us a merry Christmas with new droids again haha. Black and orange r0 droid, yellow r6 and a purple r5. All the force awakens concept droids
Man, I never got all the last round. ::) Making it easy not to care at the moment. >:(
Was at Downtown Disney today, i found the black and orange head, but no body/legs to match. Also had a white and lemon yellow R6 (i think) that i could find parts to match; the rest of the yellow was more orange-yellow. Headed to Hollywood studios tomorrow, so im hoping they have the complete black droid.
Has anyone been to any of the Disney areas that carry these? eBay seems to have some weird combinations leading me to think the parts are drying up.
I need the brown R0 and the yellow (I think) one.
Their report back was that WDW still has some Wave 1 parts in one area, and won't replace them till they're sold out.
Hey, Indysolo, do you mean these droids?

Hope this helps!

I'd be all over a set that had 1x of every part.
Build your own droids: Like the lightsabers, there will be a store where guests can build their own droids. It’s called the Droid Depot and it’s run by a character named Mubo. After choosing if you want to do a BB or R-series droid, you pick custom pieces, colors, and accessories to create your personalized dream droid. That droid will then be fully radio controlled and, if you guide it around Black Spire outpost, it can interact with many of the elements. There are also premade droids, like R2-D2, BB-8, and even DJ R-3X (more on him below).
