I know nothing about this other than it was revealed at the Disney panel today - I guess the smaller shadow is supposed to be a Droid Factory Power Droid sculpt.
If this turns out to be as nice as the Disney Starspeeder Playset did, I'll plunk down the cash for it without blinking.

TAKE ALL OF MY MONEY.
THAT IS ALL.
TAKE IT.
;D
-
That petition finally paid off!
Now let's get those Sail Barge and DS playsets on deck. :)
Can't wait to see the full reveal.
-
When this was presented the folks from Disney said something like "you have lots and lots of droids, so now you need a place to play with them" and then they showed this slide.
The smaller silhouette is for a GNK droid which will come with the set.
I think it's great that other droid sculpts are finding their way into this line - cause once they have a sculpt and the buildable parts you can easily see them either including that sculpt more and more in various box sets or carded offerings in different designs/colors.
-
So that one is bigger than the vintage rc one.
-
I'm hardly believing the great news coming out of celebration! I hope they'll put some nice set details into this, but as long as it's a larger mold with a nice paint app, I'll be happy.
-
Remeber that Sand Crawler from the custom boards? If we got one of that size I would crap my pants!
-
Awesome.

This is interesting and I really hope it's as nicely done as their Starspeeder is. That ship is among top 3 vehicles overall. I just absolutely love how well it's done.
-
Have we heard anymore about this and when its supposed to be out?
-
Shortly after it was announced there were rumors it'd be out for Christmas, but I haven't heard anything since then...
-
Again, if it's as nice as the Starspeeder, I'm into it. I just had this out the other night, and it's friggin great.
-
Anyone else underwhelmed by the new sandcrawler images/video that out there now? That paint job is terrible IMHO.

That paint job is terrible IMHO.
It seems more orange and black than brown and weathered for some reason.
For $100, it seems like a pretty nice set. Some fun features and a larger size than the previous Hasbro crawler. I'm sure I'll end up buying one but no rush at this point.

Outside of the checkerboard paint job it looks pretty cool to me. I'd expect a VOTC version with a nicer paint job at some point right?
I could see myself getting this and just putting it on the shelf with the rest of the Disney / Star Tours stuff, but it wouldn't have any place in the OT section.
-
I agree about the paint job. Very lack luster. And for some reason I expected a tad more detail in terms of play features all the way around. Perhaps a second level inside. That said, happy about the size.

At a site that shall not be named. I felt dirty when I looked it up and saw who had it.
-
That looks horrible. Hopefully this is a test shot...?
-
It is rather meh to me. I don't even find the size difference is all that impressive to be honest. The way it was being talked about made it seem like it would be much larger. Maybe it's just cuz they made the treads really small.
-
Oh no Justin that’s it in hand from the park.
I don’t hate it but the deco blows for sure and the figures are just eh.
I actually don’t own a SC at all, but I’m gonna get this to just basically be a backdrop for where droids and Jawas go since they’re kind of all homeless in my collection. I like the idea of my shelves either having a large display feel or something big as a backdrop for them. This will fill that backdrop role.
It didn’t wow me though.
Good video of it here: https://youtu.be/k8tWQeaw73I
-
Yeah the piece itself is really cool for the price, but that deco is straight up trash. But it kind of "fits" with the other Disney stuff. Isn't it technically some third party toy company making the Disney exclusive stuff using Hasbro molds?

At the start, yes it was Disney using Hasbro's molds/factory agreements. Now though, Disney is making them themselves with their own product development teams, molds and factories.
The original Droid Factory wave was Disney essentially sub-licensing the BAD molds from Hasbro. For the second wave of BAD (when the wires were dropped), that was Disney creating their own molds using the BAD as a starting point (but making them more cost effective by cutting out the leg wires and things).
Neither Disney nor Hasbro have gotten into the details of how Disney is able to create 3.75" scale toys for sale in the parks (either outside Hasbro's license or with Hasbro's permission or sub-license agreement) but obviously they have some sort of agreement in place because Hasbro hasn't sued Disney yet for infringement. :P
-
Sounds about right. When was the Star Wars toy license renegotiated? I think it was around 2013, not long after Disney bought Lucasfilm, I read that they gave Hasbro a license extension, but Hasbro had to pay more for the rights because Disney needed the money more (which is why the figure prices went up to $7.50 for 5POA). I assume there was something about the Disney park figures included in there.
-
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Hasbro was still involved with the 3.75" offerings in the Disney Parks.
If you think about it, Hasbro could benefit from an arrangement where Disney says they want X product and Hasbro "charges back" to Disney the cost of manufacturing the prototype, creating the final sculpt and parts breakdown, the tooling for the molds and production costs. Disney receives the product directly and all the Parks Merchandise team had to do was supervise and approve steps in the process. Hasbro can basically charge whatever it cost them in manpower/time/materials plus a mark-up and Disney can just turn around and give it back to Hasbro in the form discounts on licensing costs.
The fact that the GNK droid in this set is basically the same droid from the Vintage 3-pack that was available at Target a while back pretty much confirms that there is tooling sharing going on.

I saw the size comparison photo, and this version does seem a good bit larger than the vintage/OTC release. I also like the added electronics, forward hatch and winch. But essentially? It comes across like a big box, and somewhat lacking in detail. And the paint apps look like they could be better.
Most of all? How the hell are you supposed to fly home from one of the parks with this thing? You're probably going to get hit up with extra baggage charges, or you might have to ship it home. The size of the Starspeeder was a big reason why I didn't buy one when I was at Disney last fall.
-
I was on a pretty tight collecting budget when the OTC release of the Sandcrawler came around, so it has always been that one vehicle I have been holding out for (whether as a re-do or remake). Not sure why, but at least so far I’m just not super wow-ed by this. Looks good, but I’m still unsure. Plus, I’d have to wait to see if it was offered through the parks app or something since I am nowhere near the Disney parks, and won’t be visiting anytime soon.

Disney does offer a shipping service when you buy something in the parks. They will even hold it for you until the end of the day. Just as the CM.

No no, that was Tom Petty!
-
This may be a dumb question, but anybody care to wager an educated guess on the secondary market for these. Right now you can't get one on eBay for less than double retail. Will people calm down over time and the price will come down or will this be so scarce it'll stay or rise in "value"?
-
It’s new so I’d say give it time. Most of their stuff has been available for a long time even when it is eventually discontinued. Certain figs seem to have gained value fast but if you were to compare I’d say the Starspeeder playset is a more fair comparison long term. Just my opinion. The figs seem to have no rhyme or reason as to why one is worth a lot and others aren’t. Besides the convention exclusives I can’t think of any of the droids as “limited”. At the same time I recall some of the 4-packs sitting forever on shelves it seemed then once they sold out suddenly people seemed to suddenly want them and their secondary prices went up.
Similarly wave 1 park pieces are commanding premiums over time in notocing. The SC is so new it’s tough to call but I’d say it’ll be worth basically it’s park price for a while then it’ll eventually not be carried and people who didn’t buy will panic and drive prices up then.
-
Has there been any pictures of this Sandcrawler?
-
I didn’t even realize this thing was available yet.
What figures does it come with? Figured means I probably need to track one down somehow.

A GNK droid and Jawa. Not sure about the droid, but Jawa is Disney new.
-
Great... and it's only available in the park right? Any chance of it showing up on the app that we know of?
-
The Gonk and Jawa are both dumbed down Hasbro figures based on recent sculpts... basically some articulation is deleted and their decos are new. The crawler itself is all new wirh lights and sounds and stuff. Some cool features for sure like a working elevator and crane. A page or two back I posted a guys video review of it.
-
Finally got around to watching the video Jesse posted. While I don't love the paint job, the rest of this thing looks awesome. So many cool electronics between the elevator, lights, sounds, etc. Definitely going to pick one of these up if I get the chance.

It is on the app now, but out of stock.

A friend of mine went old-school on the Sandcrawler and called Disney Delivears (at least that's what it was called a few years ago). He got a hold of a representative who said that it was only in stores at the moment, but they were able to take an order over the phone. The Disney rep also stated that the Sandcrawlers were selling quickly.
That phone number is: (877) 560-6477 . The Sandcrawler is $99.99 plus tax and shipping (around $12 for him. YMMV)
-
Thanks for the tip. I went ahead and called just now and they said that he'd be happy to place an order, but that they're totally sold out at the moment.
He said more were being ordered and that I should try back in a couple of weeks.
-
Got my two Sandcrawlers today. I am super excited to finally have this after first hearing about it at SWCO.
-
I called again and tried to order one, the rep I spoke to said that they had a hold on that item and weren't allowed to take phone orders for it until "at least" the new year. She said spring was more likely.
Hopefully as these get out the eBay prices drop, or they show up on the app...

Ordered the Sandcrawler Playset (https://www.shopdisney.com/sandcrawler-playset-star-wars-1496522) on ShopDisney this AM (also grabbed R4-H18 (https://www.shopdisney.com/star-wars-droid-factory-figure-r4-h18-1490612) as well).
Use SHIPMAGIC for free shipping. ;)
-
My wife ordered one for me for Christmas this morning... I don't really know that, but she did tell me not to go buying one between now and then. :)
-
Sadly, I'm a bit underwhelmed by this set as a whole. Paint app aside which I think is universally panned, it seems a squashed and I think more can have been done with the interior.
-
Saw these for $100 at a Disney Store today
-
Was that an outlet store Nick, or a regular one?

Not sure why all the park exclusives aren't sold at the Disney stores. Wonder how the sales numbers justify their decisions either way.

I would love to know that too.
-
I have to wonder if Disney ordered another production run of the Sandcrawler after it appeared in The Mandalorian? They already had the tooling, so why not get it out to stores, too????
-
Not sure why all the park exclusives aren't sold at the Disney stores.
When the Droid Factory stuff was released, Disney went on record saying that certain Star Wars merchandise created for Disney Parks was primarily intended to offer experiences/shopping you can’t find anywhere outside Disney Parks. When you go there on vacation, they want you to find stuff in the Parks that you've never seen before - can't do that if all the stuff in the park is the same as the stuff in your local Disney Store.
Some stuff does eventually make it on-line or out to Disney Stores, but not everything will. Disney has said that most of the Galaxy Edge stuff will stay in that park for the experience for quite some time.
In other news, if you don't have the sandcrawler yet, you can grab it on ShopDisney (https://www.shopdisney.com/sandcrawler-playset-star-wars-1496522) right now and use DISNEYPAL to get 25% off your order.
-
And it’s kinda cool, tame paint job aside. It makes a nice droid display area.
I’ve never understood why they don’t release the Starspeeder in the other decos. I’d buy a yellow or blue one in a heartbeat. It’s still one of the best toys for Star Wars figures ever. Imho it’s far cooler than the barge.

Thanks for that explanation. :)
