Title: TRU "Crumb Bomber" Republic Gunship

F@$K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hasbro managed a way to get me to buy another gunship. This will be my 6th one. I have to say I dig the whole closed up look.

It's a pretty cool retrofit that's for sure. It even looks like you can utilize the turrets (old and new style) with the blast doors closed.

ANOTHER Gunship?  Oh my.  I appreciate Hasbro's efforts to upgrade the Gunship.  But perhaps it would have been good to offer an upgraded version on the last release.  That one was the Lucky Lekku, IIRC.

Nice enhancements.  I'm definitely a fan of the gunship.  Also, I'm curious what the price point will be, $50 or $75?  Probably depends on where it retails.

But perhaps it would have been good to offer an upgraded version on the last release.
I definitely agree, but Hasbro has a history of milking their molds down to the very last drop.

That is a pretty nice update to the Gunship, and I'm sure it will make it tempting for more people to pick up.  I might be tempted, but these are tough to find the space to display (at least for me), so that might keep me away.  It does look nice though.  I saw at one of the recent Q and A's that Hasbro has said that they want to "keep the Gunship out there each year", so at least they are adding something new besides a different paint job this time.

so at least they are adding something new besides a different paint job this time.

I agree, but if it was just another paint job it would have been much easier to pass. I am thinking I will ditch my ROTS one. I have 1 of every gunship released. The previous two (Lekku & Whale are my favorites.) I am keeping the AOTC one because it's movie accurate. The 2003 CW version & ROTS are negotiable. I have no desire to own 6 Gunships, it's overkill. I am thinking this will be in the $70 Y-Wing Range. The new parts will make it easier to swallow at least.

This one is different enough to warrant buying, so I have to ditch one. Man, this year is all about upgrades and upgrading my fleet. I have a lot of Tie's to get rid of already.

The 2003 Clone Wars gunship is actually one of the most sought after in collecting circles.  You may want to hang onto that one.

Not sure I really need another one of these, but the doors are sexy.

I am thinking this will be in the $70 Y-Wing Range.

The ARC is $70, but this has new tooling so I'm seeing a $90-$100 TRU exclusive here.  Seriously...

The Y-Wing is 100% new tooling with sound, I doubt they would charge as much as the Turbo Tank, the price value of the box would not be there unless this includes figures and Turrets. Guess we will have to find out at SDCC or leaks.

Well if they made the super ultimate version of everything the first time around, you wouldn't buy two.  Or three.  Or four...   ;)

I don't want to want one, but I want one.   :-\

So why couldn't they do that to the Gunship in the first place?

Source material from the 2008 Clone Wars series was not available in 2002.

Anyway, it's rather funny that this looks to be incompatable with the BP turrets that are coming out. Great marketing I suppose. I'm game for one ship if it's the Crumb Bomber, two or three if it's a plain Gunship with stickers you can add yourself. I imagine that the full doors are going to greatly limit the number of troops that can be fit inside.

I think these will work just fine with the new turrets due to the notch in the door to allow for the deployment arm to fit through. I don't think they're dumb enough to go through the trouble of developing a retrofitted gunship and not take into account a new accessory such as the BP without it in mind.

Yeah, looking at the turrets once again makes me think that you are correct. The angle of the pic makes the hole look very small, but I guess time will tell for sure.

I stopped at four gunships. They just might have got me to buy my fifth.

I would have bought the Lucky Lekku one, but it was selling for too much. Besides, it's even more niche than some of the other repaints. So unless I can find that one for a good price, this Crumb version looks like a pass for me as well.

Title: Re: New Upgraded Gunship "Crumb bomber"

No.  They're open, so that people can see out of them.  In reality, the gunships on the tv show have doors that open in the center, one half moving forward, the other moving back.

but I remember one scene from the movie where they are closed, when anakin and the clones are attacking the monastery to rescue jabba's son. The doors are closed and then they jump out of the gunship to go attack the monastery, its right before they try to climb up the mountain.

I already have the original Episode II Gunship, but I have to admit this one looks pretty cool.  I have no idea how people can possibly display all of these gunships, let alone the other vehicles though.

I had seriously considered getting one of these (which would be my fourth, after the original 2002 version, the 2005 ROTS green version, and the 2006 ARC Gunship version) until I saw the price on the SDCC placard in the display case.  $59.99 for this?  That's literally double what it cost when it was first released, and 33% higher than it cost just last fall at Wal-Mart.  I'll just hope that I can find two of the Gunship pod Battle Packs to outfit my 2002 version and call it a day on these.

I saw some pretty grainy photos and thought it said $69.99.  Either way - too much for me, but it's going to cost me a fortune to outfit all of my Gunships with pods.  Thanks Hasbro.   ::)

Just one of the reasons you lost a carded collector.   :)

The Command, AOTC, and ROTS versions are sitting loose in my office floor.  The Saga and Legacy versions are not even out of the box yet.  They definitely take up a lot of room, and I'm at a loss as to how best to keep them.  I know I'm a sucker because I'll end up getting this new one too.

Guess what's online (according to our front page) and available at TRU.com?

$69.99, which is to be expected I suppose.

Nice nose art, but crummy price (nyuk nyuk).

They really need a "Ship to Store" option like Walmart offers on their site. The TRU's around here suck so badly it will probably be weeks before these show up...
Title: Re: TRU "Crumb Bomber" Republic Gunship
Post by: JACKOFTRADZE on September 28, 2009, 01:16 PM
I will pick one up when it hits. I would love to order it but I do not want to pay shipping. I have a $10 coupon for $75 or more in store so I can wait. I never had difficulty with TRU exclusives so I will buy it when the new Tie Interceptor hits too to take advantage of the coupon. (It would be great if it hit this weeks so I can get a free Ponds) This will be gunship #6 for me, I have one of each and I am currently trying to outfit them all wit the new pods. I have pondered getting rid of the ROTS Gunship and/or the CW Command Gunship. 6 Gunships is a lot and I cannot display them all at once.

I really like the WM Gunship as they went back to movie colors with many improvements including the cockpit windshield. This has the same look so I am down with it plus it has substantial tooling updates.

TRU in Bell Gardens, Ca. 2 of them
TRU in Cerritos, Ca. 1 box crushed to hell.

passed for now, as I had Ponds stashed in Cerritos waiting for this sale hoping to get him free by buying the Lars homestead.  but now I'll just get the gunship but didn't want the crushed box.  And Bell Gardens had no Ponds.

from the back of the box art the crumb does look painted.  Also from the back of the box the big canons on the back are new.  the back part "folds" out and there are missle tubes.

$69.99 seem fair for this?  Imperial ARC - even at $65?  NO WAY  Granted this has new doors, but does the new price point make up for the new tweaks?  No, but I'm at the fence at this point.  I guess it's kinda stupid to outfit this thing with $50 gunpods as the doors close completely but I may cave at some point.   :-\

I still remember getting 4-5 Saga Gunships from KB.com on clearance for $9.95 a whack.  Ahhhhh...the good ol days.

Technically, this ship doesn't have the gunpods if I'm not mistaken...  Nor do any Clone Wars deco ships.  I can't recall on the 2D toon ones, but none in the 3D toon have the gun turrets, just the film decoes.

Spoke too soon I guess...  Though one can hope it's not on one of the decoes they bought maybe.  Either way, I think I'd skip 'em for all, and just get enough for one movie-deco gunship.

New member here, but longtime Star Wars collector...

I will also report finding the new CW Republic Gunship at the Clovis, CA TRU today 8)  Price was $69.99.  The ship looks great from the box pictures and the modifications seem neat.  However, $70 is a lot for what seems to be rather minor tooling.

I'm content with the Wal Mart exclusive gunship I got last year so I will likely not pick this one up.  Nevertheless, the ship is indeed out at retail.

Given the past history of my local TRUs with exclusive releases (Star Wars, GI Joe, and small scale military lines) I am actually surprised I saw these new gunships and the new legacy TIE Interceptor before the release date ;)

Not only did our TRU NOT get the new Crumb Bomber in on their truck today, they actually dismantled the whole Clone Wars display at the front of the store. It wasn't it up barely a month, and was half empty the whole time! I could only shake my head in disgust...great week to rip that down, with the show premiering Friday and all.  ::)

Disney's "Princess" line...my 4 year old daughter would be enthralled.  ::)

Me? Not so much.

I've never seen one scrapped so soon...they must have realized how bad it looked to have that pretentious display with no product for the pegs.

They also replaced the big Star Wars display at my local TRUs, moving the items back to the regular Star Wars section.  I was OK with that as apart from the Imperial V-Wing, there was never anything new at the big display and it was always picked over. When my stores reset, they put out the new items, including the said gunship 8)

Yeah, I noticed that our local TRU was changing up the front display yesterday as well (changing to Disney Princesses, our daughter should love that).  I was surprised that the CW one was so short-lived, it seemed like they had just put that up.

My TRU front end display was all Snow White - unless I just wasn't paying close enough attention....They're really starting to burn through those huge displays.  What's funny is that nothing from the front of the store made it back to the regular aisle - not that there was much up there to begin with.
Title: Re: TRU "Crumb Bomber" Republic Gunship
Post by: McMetal on October 7, 2009, 05:15 PM
Finally picked this bad boy up today...TRU had 2 ON TOP (that's right, ON TOP) of the action figures aisle. I had to ask one of the drones to grab a ladder so I could actually get it down and buy it. Awesome product placement!

I was unpleasantly surprised when I got up to the checkout to pay for it as I had expected it to be $50. Rang up for $73 with tax! (I realize now I must have been thinking of the Interceptor)

Anyway, I have everything out now, in retail, anyway.
Title: Re: TRU "Crumb Bomber" Republic Gunship

Ordered this online a couple of weeks ago, and got it last week. I got a 20% off code for TRU, for it was only $55 or so. Tolerable but still expensive.

Regarding the ship, it's very cool looking to be sure. The longer doors add to the accuracy of the model, and the opening hatches near the cockpit are nice touches. The extra missile launchers are awesome, and it's cool that the rockets under the wings are extra ammunition for the launchers. The Salacious Crumb nose art definitely makes the ship.

Now, do I want to see this again? No. I hope Hasbro drops these new changes for future RGS releases, unless they make a totally new sculpt. It's not so much the "extra firepower" or the side doors that I dislike, but rather the elongated troop bay doors. You can't fit as many figures in the ship, and it's much harder to place them in the toy. Plus, you can't see any of the toys you put in. The worst mistake made by Hasbro on this Gunship is the inability of the Geonosis Assault turrets to connect while the doors are closed. Just a simple gap in the plastic on each door would have been a great improvement.

This is a cool ship, but hasbro did more to hurt the playability than help it. The longer doors seem about as smart as gluing down the main hatch to the AT-TE, or sealing up one of the main doors on the Turbo Tank. You can still put toys in the ship, it would just be a lot more difficult.

I saw this vehicle for the first time at a local TRU today, and it felt heavier than I remember the other gunships to be.  I was surprised to see on the packaging the extra missile launchers Greg referred to above.  I don't remember any indication of that in the initial pics we saw (or may be I'm just getting old).  Either way, I thought that was as cool of a feature as the elongated doors.  It would have been nice to see the new mold in all it's glory out of the box, but I'll be patient.  I'll definitely pick it up later down the line.

I plan on buying another Crumb Bomber and returning it with my $70 receipt. $20 is worth it on principle, I am try to go up to the register to save the time but if they give me grief I will do it right in front of them. TRU is usually pretty cool about this stuff.

Thank God they don't have any more exclusives coming out this year. With their abysmal recent history of sticking new figs, BP's, etc, I think I can scratch TRU off my list entirely til 2010.

Cracked open my Crumbbomber and overall I like it but have a few gripes about it:
1. The Red coloring is really washed out to a milky level. Very noticeable when compared to the Saga & WM Legacy versions.
2. Hasbro really cheaped out by not including the grapple lines in the back like the previous 5 Gunships. Even though this drop from space there was no need to exclude them

The Pros:
1. New quad missile launchers are really awesome!
2. The Crumb deco looks great!
3. I love the blacked out canopies on this version and Lekku version.
3. The new doors give a different dynamic to the toy, this one can fight a space battle if need be.

Here is my ranking for all of the Gunships to date:

1. Legacy WM Lucky Lekku
2. Saga2 TRU CW Space Whale
3. Legacy TRU Crumbbomber
4. Saga Gunship
5. CW Command Gunship
6. ROTS Version
