Although we don't have pricing/availability info quite yet, I'm glad to hear this is coming back.  I did see it once or twice the first time around, but didn't have the money for it, so hopefully it works out this time.  I wouldn't mind having one, but again, I guess it depends on the timing of things.  From those who picked it up the first time, it sounded like it was a pretty neat toy.

Great!  I'm still kicking myself for not picking it up when I was working at KB ($50, plus I would have received a 25% employee discount)  :-[

Awesome. I found one at my local comic shop for $250. I'll hopefully be able to afford this one.  :)

I was too cheap, and didn't pick one up the first time. :P The same mistake will not be made again!

Wonder if it will have any new options? You know, rocket boosters or oil slicks? ;D

I was lucky enough (thanks chuckles) to get one the first time around.  I think it was only $50 on clearance, but it might have been less 8).  It's an awesome piece and will be nicer in the new house with the hardwood floors.  If I can get another on clearance, I'll opt in again :P

Like many....passed on it the first time....now (with kids coming) I think this would be a real neat thing for toddlers so I am going to buy it.

Going to tell the wife that it can be the kids gift from Grandma :)

Why?  Is there anything that's going to be different from the last time around?

I picked up the original as well, for $50 at K-mart.  Don't think I've ever even opened up the thing though...  :-\

It moves, it makes noise and it interacts with people.  My nephew will have one, if only to annoy my brother!   ;D

I might get one too....how well do these things move on carpet?

Great news for those who want one - I'm on the fence (as I am on most higher priced items)!

Kudos to those of you who grabbed one for $50 - most people are happy with it at full price!

I have berber (sp?) carpet and it moved ok but (obviously) it's made for vinyl/tile floor.  It will never move on shag carpet.  I had one but after a few days ended up returning it because the novelty wore off and I knew I would never open it again nor "talk" to it.

I do remember it had trouble carrying a can to me on carpet so you'll just have to try it out and keep your receipt just in case the carpet issue ends up being a problem.

Hmmm, I'm starting to hear some reports that these are being found at BJ Wholesales Clubs on the East Coast.

I'm also starting to hear some whispers that these may end up being a shared exclusive and possibly not available everywhere.  I'll do some more digging and see if I can nail down that rumor or not....

Thanks Jeff - for $70 (the rumored price) I think I'll cave in on this one.

If anyone can help a fellow JDer who doesn't live next to a BJ's - I'd be forever grateful!

BTW - $70 seems like a steal in a market that consists of rising prices....

If you giys live on the west coast, Costco has them by the boatload. I didn't have time to check the price though.

I haven't got the ROTS one yet but I think it does the same as the original version, same droid.

These links will help you out on what he can do.  ;)

Did you try this link and click on "Instructions"?

I'm not sure if you can take them off once they're on.  There's tabs that pop into place that couldn't be popped back out unless you could get to them from the inside somehow...

I got one for Christmas (even though I already had the Saga version), so I've got the instructions laying out at home right now.  I'll check it out when I get back from Arizona and let you know if there's anything in there about potentially removing the legs, Brent.

Fun little sucker though!  Gotta program him to bring me a beer across the house next.  That'll be too cool.  8)

Thanks Matt.

Yeah Dale, I looked at that page briefly.  I didn't dig around much mostly because it looked like it was just instructions as to how to use the droid once assembled and powered up.  I'll dig a little deeper later, but I may need other help.

I'm hoping you can get them off somehow, otherwise he won't go back in the box correctly.  It's not a huge deal because I'm not selling him, but I would like to pack him properly for moving.

The legs do come off but you have to be very, very careful. There are tabs that hold the legs in place & you can break them. Some force maybe required to do so & you will hear a loud snap when you do. I had a heck of a time with mine but it worked out OK, just took a bit of time.

A loud snap when I take them off or only when I break them ??? :o

Sorry for lagging, but I finally scoped out the rest of the instructions, and there ain't squat about removing the legs - only putting them on.  I'd say don't try to snap them off, or you'll break the tabs and they won't stay on any longer.  The only thing I might suggest is to figure out if there's a way of opening the whole thing up so you could get at those tabs from the inside, and squeeze them in so you could safely remove the legs without breaking them.  Otherwise, R2 should probably just remain assembled!

Thanks Matt.  R2's been sitting here just waiting for word.  He may be transported whole.  Better that than broken.

To anyone that missed this thing at their local BJ's/Sam's Club/Costco over Christmas - you're in luck!

The Interactive R2-D2 (in the RotS themed box) is now IN-STOCK (http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/ProductsByBrand.htm?BR=495&SBR=77&ID=9647&PG=1) over at the HasbroToyShop.

$80 plus shipping isn't a bad deal compared to what the original version sells for on eBay.

Man, that black and silver packaging looks great.

He'd look really good next to my R2 phone, remote control R2 and 3D puzzle R2.   8)

I'm going to assume that this is the same interactive R2 as before with a price increase to $120...

I had considered getting one until I realized that the price went up 25% from the last release!
