Bears signed Peppers and Chester Taylor yesterday. . .Ravens got what they needed most - a new WR in Boldin.
-
It's too bad the Bears couldn't have gotten Boldin. They needed a top WR vs. a 4th TE... I suspect that Olsen or Clark will be gone by month's end... The Bears also need some Offensive Line help. It's great that they now have another quality running back, but if the line can't sustain a block for more than a second, it doesn't matter how good the RB is.
-
I was telling a Bears fan at work yesterday...Taylor is good and at what they got him for he was probably alright but he isn't on the good side of 30
Giving Peppers all of that money is a bigger head scratcher. The guy is Moss on Defense. Guy at work was as giddy yesterday as he was last year and I kept saying..."Jay Cutler"...he got pissed. >:D
-
I don't know if it's the line as much as it is Forte's speed - we'll see. My guess is Taylor gets a majority of the carries next season.
-

LOL! I said the same thing to our resident Bears fan last week. Even Malcolm, the only Lions fan I have ever met, was laughing at him.
-
As a Bears fan, I was on the Cutler bandwagon when he arrived in Chicago. I can honestly say that I got tired of the interceptions about a quarter of the way through the season, but by the end of the season the interceptions didn't surprise me any more, it actually became an expected part of every game. I was pretty happy with the fact that he threw 27 touchdowns during the season since he didn't have a full off-season to work with the Bears 'receivers' (I put that in quotes because they don't really have any legitimate receiving threats). Considering he threw so many interceptions in the red-zone, he could have had a bunch more touchdown.
If he's able to get a line that can block (like he had in Denver) and some receivers that can catch passes on a regular basis (especially the ones that are right in their hands), I fully expect his stats to go back up. However, with the most recent activity in Chicago, neither of those two things are going to happen. Even with the entire off-season to work with his 'receivers', it won't help him out if he's still sacked/rushed/hurried/knocked-down as much as he was last season.
And BTW, am I the only person in the country that thinks his helmet is too far down on his forehead to actually be able to see clearly down field?! That ALONE could help reduce his interceptions by half! ::)
-
How can you live in God's Country and still root for the Bears? You should be tarred, feathered, and banned from cheese.

Because I was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago... I'm an uprooted IL resident who ended up in WI and lives in an area that has more people who are originally from IL living near him than Wisconsinites...

Those are ridiculous excuses. Heathen.

They were talking about the Vikings interest in LT on our local sports radio station today. I can't say I'd be against it, but I don't know if I can deal with having to listen to him whining about things all the time.
-
Well you won't have to, LT signed a 2 year deal with the Jets
-
The bigger story from this signing? Whether or not the NY sports writers are actually going to call him LT. Which in and of itself is ridiculous. But that's the NY sports writers for you.
This is a band-aid signing for the Jets. They really need a young RB that can develop in tandem with Mark Sanchez. Tomlinson is going to be 31 this spring, and the magic number for running backs has been 30 for as long as I can recall. And his past two years have been lackluster.
-
Young RB? What's wrong with the second year back in Greene? Washington is no slouch either - pretty sure he's younger than 30.
-
Are they going to develop into elite 1200 yard + RB's? That remains to be seen. But even though I'm a Giants fan, Rex Ryan has made the Jets somewhat worth watching.
-
Ooooh, and the Bucs haven't done ****.
The owners are stretched too thin with Manchester United and it shows. 2-14 here we come.
-

Maybe, but with so many teams implementing a 'two back' system, I don't think it matters.
-

Yeah but considering his fibula/tibia was cracked in half and poking through his skin in the middle of last season, I'd expect at this juncture to see mostly Tomlinson/Greene.
-
So what is the Chargers plan at RB with LT gone? Sproles isn't big enough to handle a full load by himself...
-
They're going RB in the 1st round unless a free agent drops into their laps.

Yeah, you're right. That break was NASTY.

They still have that Michael Turner guy right?
Oh wait... :D

I knew the Jets were going to sign LT, stupid move. He is just awful and always shows poor sportsmanship.

I like it. Best to have TDs in overtime anyway from a fantasy perspective. ;)

I'm on board too, but I think it should apply to regular season games as well.

They'll be voting in May to apply it to reg. season games too.
-
I like it too. I keep hearing the defense-is-part-of-the-game-too argument... I don't like it when people say that if you lose the coin toss it's no big deal, you just have to play defense.
If you lose the coin toss, you had to play defense then also score, where the team that won it only had to get 40 yards and a FG. It's definitely better to get each team the ball.
-
I did find it interesting that the team that gets the coin toss only marches down and scores a FG to win the game about a third of the time. Nice to see that addressed and there is definitely an advantage there, but that percentage is lower than I think most people expect.

Huh?
Do you just mean in the 1st possession? I thought the team that wins the toss wins the game something like 63% of the time right now, hence the rule change.

Honestly, I'm not liking it. I think it should either be sudden death (any scoring method) or a full OT quarter. Anything else seems like a compromise. And this thing the NFL chose makes it look almost as ridiculous as OT in college football.

AMEN!!!!!! I hate gimicky rules

A full 15:00 is the only thing I've heard that makes more sense than what we got, but players are already so concerned about wear and tear on their bodies... I doubt they'd support a mandatory quarter when 5:00 might be plenty to settle it.
-
Limiting it to two possessions could help that. I'm a big fan of, "Defense is part of the game", and so one team getting an offensive possession and not having to defend is kind of lame I think. I like the direction they took, I just don't think it was enough. I also find it odd to only do this during the playoffs... Why not test it when the games don't count as much (or at all)?
-
Santonio Holmes has (reportedly) tested positive for a controlled substance...
And other news coming out, at least locally tonight, is he's been traded to the NY Jets.
Hmmm... Looks like the Steelers MIGHT be looking for a young receiver.
-
I am happy with the trade and dont mind the 4 game suspension. They didnt have to give up much to get him and they needed another good WR.
-
They blew up Texas Stadium on Sunday....
Insert "Cowboys collapse early" or "Cowboys choke on more than Dust" Joke here....
I am hoping that something exciting happens in Free Agency or the Draft or it is going to be another boring off-season.
I think losing Flozell Adams will give us a net +30 in penalty yards per game though.
-

Till he tweets "Wake & Bake Baby", and the NFL tests him, and he gets a season-long suspension. :)
EDIT: To be fair he maybe has learned his lesson and he's a really good receiver so you'll do well with him if he doesn't make himself a liability. He got axed here for more than just weed, but weed I think was the ultimate deciding factor that he wasn't able to get out of and didn't really seem to care to do so anyway.
-
Is big Ben that dumb?
-
Which part? :D
If you mean the last post I made, that was referencing Santonio (or San Antonio, according to the ditz on the news tonight) Holmes... And yes, Holmes was that dumb. Big Ben didn't Tweet he was raping anyone prior to any alleged attempted rapes.
-
OMG... FREAKIN Dez Bryant? Really? I blame this crap on f'n Randy Moss. Hopefully Jerry Jones got it out his system and he can stop chasing bad boys and get back to building the team we need... Defensive Backs, Linemen and a Decent Quarterback (not the 3rd stringer that starts for us now)
So Dallas gets T.O., Jr. Only without the skills and Touchdowns......
Yes, I am bitter right now..... I'll get over if the Cowboys ever win another Superbowl (so never)...
-
Steelers picked a Center... I was surprised by that.
-
There is a Rothlesberger joke in there somewhere.
*smudged on this site from my iPad

Having fun with a new toy I see. :)

Cry me a frickin river :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( another :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Waaaaaay too much value for them to pass up Bryant at 24. It's pretty insane that he fell that far. There were reports that the Cowboys were going BPA with their picks this year and I think that's reflected in this pick. It was a good one I think.
Steelers picked a Center... I was surprised by that.
He's a good one!
Meanwhile, I'm disappointed that the Bucs couldn't draft Suh, but I'm pretty excited about McCoy as a consolation prize. Warren Sapp insists that he's going to be the better pro of the two... hopefully he's right.
-
Yeah they were real big on him on the local round-table show tonight. Said he'll probably come right in and play, no real development, though he can play RG too I guess so he may develope there first and then come in at Center to replace Hartwig. Hartwig's doing good though, so I'd be just as happy seeing him come in at RG as our OL needs so much help it's not even funny. I just figured they'd be looking at Corners first, as we were very weak in the secondary last year, and OLinmen can usually be had later, even when they're good.
I'm cool with the pick... at least we weren't looking for a QB. :-X
-
Oh man. I've been critical of the Bucs over the last year (since they fired Gruden) but I LOVE what they did today.
They were worst in the league against the run last year so they draft two big time DT's... they need receivers and Benn is a guy who I think should have been a 1st rounder.
Barber's getting old so they grabbed a CB at the top of the 3rd...
Tomorrow I want to see them take a DE at the top of the 4th.
I haven't been this happy with a Bucs draft in years. They are probably still going to suck next year... they need help at LT, LB, S, and WR... but for the first time in about 15 months I feel like they might be starting to put things together.

That's kind of funny, Rob. You're the last person that I would expect to post a pic of Tebow getting run over.
;)
-
I did that on purpose to show how much I like the McCoy selection. :)

I was thinking the RB is a half a tick away from being in worse shape than Tebow in this particular encounter.

RB? That's one of the Bucs new defensive tackles!
He's got 65 pounds on Tebow, he's not a natural ball carrier, and he's got two defenders taking him down. 8)

Bears take a QB with their first pick in the draft?!
-

Fourth pick... The took a DB with their first.
-
Pittsburgh reacquired McFadden for the 5th rounder they got to trade Santonio Holmes. To me that's now balanced out since I liked McFadden a lot.
They picked a RB up in the 4th round I think that was predicted to go 1st or 2nd round, so that's nice too. Never hurts to strengthen the backfield since we've not had a great run-game lately.
-

That would be because Jay Cutler sucks.
-
T Jack is our QB!!!!!!
The battle for last place with Detroit begins.

;D

;D
All I can say is you have the right to gloat. Enjoy your battle for first with Chicago.

Chicago? Ha!
Favre will be back. Quote me on that. He hates training camp and is pulling the same **** he did last year. But the Packers will still win the division.

Will be interesting to see. The early buzz is that his ankle surgery didn't go well, so we'll see. At this point training camp has been going on for a while - I think he'd like to get into a preseason game or two and we're just about a month away from the regular season.
-
He'll play... it was right about this time last year that he said he was done. When he retires, he'll decide during the season, so the entire league can have the farewell Favre tour and everyone can gush over him for 4 months straight.
-
^ Seconded in every way.
-
Favre speaks... will return if healthy. Has made no decision yet, never sent any texts.
Meanwhile, the Vikings offered him $3 million more to play, with $4 million worth of incentives on top of that.
Cha-ching.
His ankle will be feeling great two days from the end of training camp.

Confirmation from him of no text messages sent tells me he's coming back. He just doesn't want to go to camp (or probably the preseason). I'm hoping he plays as I wasn't able to get down last year to see him but am hoping to make it this year for the Lions or Cowboys game.

I wouldn't mind going to the Bears game myself... last time I saw him play was 2002 when the 9-3 Bucs beat the 9-3 Packers 21-7. Favre threw 3 or 4 picks and was sacked 4 or 5 times. 8)

No shame in losing to a Super Bowl winner. ;)

None at all. I'm a big Favre fan personally, so you won't hear me trash the guy, and it was excellent to see him play. And it was nice to see my team get to the top of the mountain once before they went back to sucking. :P
-
Favre is a drama queen that loves attention. He'll be pulling this crap for four or five more years probably.
-
Nah... if he plays this year, it's the last one.
In the meantime, he can force Peyton to play that much longer by throwing for another 3500 yards and 25 TD's.
-

Sorry, how is he a dramma queen? The guy is just keeping quiet down South. He can't really help it if the media goes nuts every time Shianco's barber's neighbor's cousin overhears two kids saying Favre might retire.
-

How about just coming out and saying whether he'll play or not (and actually live with his decision)? It's been the same **** every year - I'm playing, I'm retiring, I'm playing, I'm retiring. Once, I would have no problem with. After that it becomes a trend and gets old. I for one don't believe for one minute he's retiring, but what if he actually does? Don't you think the Vikes would have liked to have known that sooner so they could have made a trade for McNabb or a better QB than Tavaris? They're a quality team and legit SB contender with an upper tier QB and Tavaris certainly isn't one. I guess shame on them for not having a plan B, but Brett needs to make a commitment and end all the drama bull****.
-
Well, I agree that it would be nice to have an answer. The Packers got tired of not knowing who was going to lead the team. He may not need training camp, but the guys around him need him at training camp (or whoever is going to QB). I have to snicker a little that Viking fans now have to deal with what we put up with for years...can't say we didn't warn you.
That said, Favre is not the one creating drama. I swear, some of you act like cheated-on wives from Jerry Springer where they go all out attacking the other woman instead of the guy who actually cheated. Is Favre on a publicity tour saying different things or making any real public statements about his position? Not that I've seen. He's hiding out in podunksville saying he's not sure yet. Period. If the guy is undecided and the team is okay with him being undecided this long, then so be it. The only ones stirring up drama are the media. Oooh, Favre went out to dinner with his wife on Tuesday, that must mean he's playing again this year. Whoops, he ordered the Fish, that means he's retiring. What a bunch of BS.
I also blame Childress and The Vikings top brass for not growing a pair and saying we need to know by __/__/2010 if you are coming back or not. If you're not, we'll go another direction. If I was making that kind of dough doing something I really enjoyed and had the luxury of a team that will take me back if and whenever I decide I want to be back, then I'd probably just play it by ear as well, especially if there's any truth to his ankle not healing that well. Why bother with training camp or preseason nonsense if it's not going to cost me anything? If my work offered me the same pay to take an extra month off, I think I'd do it. I think all of us would.
The guy has faults, but get off Favre's back with the drama crap - he's about the least drama seeking NFL star I've ever seen.
-
I agree with most of what you've said Justin, but Favre could also just pony up and say yes or no, end of story. Absolutely though the Vikes could have set a deadline but like Mikey says, with Favre they've got a shot at a superbowl, without him they're 9-7 and maybe make the playoffs.
The most baffling aspect of the Vikings to me is that they didn't go after a QB in the draft. Assuming Favre comes back, wouldn't it have been a great thing to have a future hall of famer who can still play schooling your rookie? Maybe they're thinking that's what Favre is doing with Tavaris or whoever but geez, I'd have grabbed some young college stud for this year as well.
I guess ultimately though the Vikes are playing for now, not the future.
-
Don't get me started on the Vikings not drafting a QB.
I'm a Vikings fan and I still want Claussen to be a star just to spite the team I root for.
-
How about just coming out and saying whether he'll play or not (and actually live with his decision)? It's been the same **** every year - I'm playing, I'm retiring, I'm playing, I'm retiring.
If he did what you suggest, he'd have to go to training camp, and he's sure as **** not doing that at his age and given his career.
-
Looks like Elvis Dumerville is going to miss most, if not all, of the 2010 season due to a torn pectoral muscle during training camp.
Shame...he's a great help to their defense.
-
Farve come back and nobody cares :P
The North is going to be killer this year...because the Bears got better and the Packers and Vikings are just as good as last year...they all play basically the same schedule, it will be interesting. I gotta stick with the current champs and go with the Vikes. But this year smacks of 1999 to me, they were just as hyped and were looked at as NFC favorites again and Randall Cunningham sucked ass. That year, Jeff George came off the bench and saved the season and got them back to the playoffs, only to lose to the Rams. I sure hope Farve still has some magic in the old Nike golf cap :-\
-
It's a little early... Camp's still got a little time left. ;D
-
Favre's stats will come back to earth, the Bears will suck again, and the Packers will kick ass all the way to the Super Bowl.
(so just the opposite will happen)
