I'm about clones out myself and I'm a HUGE army builder. Really after this years offerings (501st, Coruscant (grey), AOTC clones and officers), I won't really have the need, want or desire to build up any more armies.
Now I would like some more Stormies and I do plan on building up the Snowtrooper a little. But I REALLY dislike the specific soft goods skirt the Snowtrooper has.
This is definitely my last big year for army building. I promised myself and my fianceé that. Then it's less than two years from then and I'll stop collecting for the most part, with that scant new fig here or there. Heck I'll be 40 by then (2009), so I think it's time to stop collecting.
Not that I'll be done with SW. Heck no. I've got plans drawn up for several large scale dioramas. The plans are drawn, materials lists made, etc. Now it's just having the space and time to devote to building them.
An example of one of the dioramas planned is the Battle of Geonosis which will be encased in plexiglass and measure 8ft wide by 5ft tall and 4ft deep. This will "sit" on a rolling cabinet that will be 2 1/2 feet high and there will be a cap on the top for the lights which will be another 1-1 1/2 feet tall. Yes, it's going to be 8-9 ft tall when done. When completed it will house no less than 700 figures and about a dozen ships. I did said big.
I'm an Industrial and Graphic Designer by trade, so it's going to be top notch. I just am waiting until I'm done collecting to really devote that time to it. Besides at the moment I only have a two bedroom apartment and I'll be getting a house soon. So I can't really build this type of thing until then. It sucks too because I've had such an itch to make these for so long. I've talked about them on other message boards for a few years now. To be honest I think those folks are getting impatient as well, heh.
When finished they really will be something to see. I'm not talking simple dioramas either. No stickers. Everything will be hand/machine made, airbrushed, etc. Not that there is anything wrong with dioramas with stickers. Heck those are great and I applaud those who have even done those type of dioramas. Niubniub is a friend of mine and I hope that when I get started I can link his site to mine. I think both will be excellent companion sites to each other. I got the approval from LFL a few weeks ago to go ahead with my website and use of SW graphics. So once I can get on that, you folks will see those big dioramas being made as I go and then the final designs. The website itself though won't be up until later this year, when my work's busy season dies down. I'm hoping October.
Whew, sorry went off in a different direction there for a minute. I can be chatty at times.
Anyway, I guess one way to look at this is the more clones Hasbro makes depending on how you collect it either means more figs to get or more money saved. I think I'm finally in the latter category.
