I'll wait till I see it in the next Inside before I comment.

No need to wait for me!   :-*

What's TRULY pathetic, is that the same toy from 20 years ago beats the crap out of the same respective toy released two decades later...  That's just wrong.  Anyone ever heard of advancement in figure making technology?  Nah, I didn't think so...  ::)

The Jabba Globs warmed the shelves across the country(s) in thousands upon thousands, ON SALE.  I finally said "what the hell" and did my part to help alleviate the problem by buying one of them, at their standard clearance price of a $1.99, which is the only price I ever really saw them at.  If Hasbro couldn't get these things to sell for a measely $2, what the hell makes them think a repaint, rail, and a bowl is going to get them to sell for at least 500% more?!  Even as an obsessive compulsive completist, I almost never even bought the original Jabba Glob, since I never even considered it to be a part of the regular 4" action figure line.  It wasn't even marketed that way the first time around...  Seemed more like the random novelty collectible, than something that went with the 4" figures.

This is just an absolute shame.  I also don't buy the notion that some people are suggesting, which is that the retailers forced Hasbro into this less than desirable atrocity.  I think a well done Jabba with all the fixin's, for anywhere from $20 - $30, would've done just fine at retail and that at least one or more retailers would've taken the chance on it if it had been presented to them in such a manner by Hasbro.  From everything I've seen around here, a lot of the beasts have done quite well in the past, including the $30 Deluxe Bantha and Rancor (at least everywhere that I ever went shopping).  The Bantha sold out reasonably fast here, and the Rancor did pretty well also.  And as far as retail shelf space goes, a Deluxe Jabba would probably take up half of the room that those two monsters took up.

I think this was ultimately Hasbro's call, and they just copped out on Jabba (and us) and went their oft-rehashed route to make a quick buck by trying to take advantage of the collector's huge demand for this particular piece.  I would've rather they just rehashed the Vintage mold instead.  They do it all the time with the ships, why not with Jabba?  That one was much better, and at least a little more to scale.  The Jabba Glob is more to scale with the Kubrick line of figures, not the 4" line!

All these years of pent up collecting frustration, years of demand, years of hoping for something incredible, and Hasbro gives us...  Jabba Glob, the Sequel.  They should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.  All this incredible work on what appears to be a great figure line for 2004 - finally targeted at the adult collectors again, and the figure by far in the greatest demand gets the absolute worst treatment of all.  Hasbro owed it to us to produce a better Jabba after all that time!  (and yes, I fully realize that Hasbro technically doesn't owe us anything!)

No question about it - a nice window boxed, newly sculpted, to-scale Jabba complete with dais, rail, bong, chubas, etc (no pack-in figure necessary) for $24.99 would've flown off the shelves.  Hasbro's just plain LAZY (and/or greedy), and as a result has just seriously tarnished an otherwise great line of figures that are forthcoming next year...

I'll be buying one of these for $10 - $15 when it's released, but I would've bought THREE nicer ones for $25 - $30.  Go figure...   :-\

I'm going to go vomit now...

Jimmy, if the Hoth wave is due for Nov., does it say when Bail Organa and the Nightclub figs are coming?  Short time frame there if you ask me.

Well said Matt. As JesseJames and I often talk about, Hasbro has a penchant for doing things half-assed. And this Jabba if it is indeed just a repainted Jabba Glob is the icing on the cake. The Big H is in a process of downgrading, doing things in such a fashion that a few years ago they never did such as lack of basic 6 pts of articulation on Cinema Scene (Screen Scene) figures. This rehashing molds to make "new" figures is weird in another light too as I think of it. Remember all of those Tatooine Luke's we got in the POTF2 days? All were new sculpts, well the POTD Luke was a bit of a rehash, but the carded ones were all new sculpts. Though nothing spectacular in the sculpts, Hasbro put the effort there, nowadays we get garbage like an Ep1 KiAdi Mundi with a new arm and paintjob and wa-la its an Ep2 KiAdi or a repainted Ep1 Yoda. There's a time and place for a rehash of a figure, when its an army builder or droid whose figure has been perfected such as the R2/R3/R4 units or Imperial Officers.

By the by, Hasbro I believe does owe us. Why? Because we buy the damn SW stuff and keep the line marginally profitable, it sure as hell isn't the kids and their p's who keep buying stuff.

But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.... but then again I'm not  ;)

I have to agree with you Matt.  That's pretty much my take on the whole Jabba situation as well.

Hey, don't give Ki-Adi Mundi a hard time.   ;)  It was a great figure the first time, so why change it?  I like the figure a lot, but maybe that's because I like his character.

Here's my two cents on the Jabba Glob, and I'll keep it at that:

It's not a bad sculpt.  The sculpt is probably one of the better Jabba sculpts that was done.  I only had problems with the paint job (not quite there, but almost), the mouth, the material it was made from, and the marketing (they really could've marketed the item better than they did).  This Jabba looks much more like the Jabba we knew in ROTJ than any other release.  The only other one that comes close in appearance is the Jabba with two-headed announcer, and that's plagued by an action gimmick.

As it is now, my Jabba's palace scene has a Jabba glob in it, with the vintage dais.  I will just wait and see on this new version, and decide when I see it.

I've got to agree with most everyone else here.  The Jabba glob was ok for what it was - the odd $2 collectible.  But it is way underscaled to be an appropriate Jabba for the regular figure line, even if it's in the proper ROTJ pose.

This really stinks.  Hasbro blew it big time with this rehash.  Especially when you consider that they KNEW how badly we all wanted a real nice ROTJ Jabba for all of our palace dioramas.   >:(

I'll be sticking with my vintage version, thanks.

More than the fiugre I think the lack of a full dais/base is what sucks.

But, the figure's a disappointment too...  I'm not even someone who was clamoring for a new Jabba so much even.  I was happy with Jabba Gllob in my collection because I was thinking someday they'd wind up doing a whole new ROTJ Jabba...

Little did I realize that by having an inkling of faith in Hasbro to "do the right thing" they'd wind up making me disappointed in Jabba's figure line-up once again.

Oh well.

I have to say one thing I disagree with everone on though...  Jabba Glob rocked.  I love how he drools. :)  Come on that was a FUN toy!  At the time anyway...

Love to have him droolin' all around and stuff.  It's just funny, and it actuall worked.

But uh, yeah that figure coming up isn't so cool and the original vintage figure is, sadly, superior.  :-\  Go figure.

Word has it that the insider has started hitting people's mailboxes...anyone get it yet??

are the pictures in there showing the same thing?

The Hasbro Rep who frequents rebelscum says the pictuer posted here and there is not the one that is in the insider... but he didn't say if it was the same toy or not.
