Mod Podge. Extensive and various reasons for it, suffice it to say I prefer it.

Saw this on RS inside that contest thread, but I'm glad it's here in its own. I especially appreciate how much you have beefed up the basic figure to a degree that he's completely new. I have been wanting to tinker w/ either a McQuarrie type Sandtrooper or a concept clone where I could go crazy with shinguards, hip packs, canteens, WWII breadbox and/or Y-harness, ammo pouches... skies the limit. I like the harness on yours. I could say, though I like the paint scheme and I enjoy the gratuitous accesories, that having both I suppose looks  "busy". Because of that, I will say one thing I never figured I would say; don't weather it... not more than it is already. The deco is not 100% crisp, but all the freaking time it would take to make any figure perfect would drive anyone crazy... and I imagine you are like me and all customizers in that you have a lot on your plate (custom and otherwise). Damn fine soldier you've made for yourself, awesome work.

Toy Reviews / Re: ARC-170 Fighter
« on: June 22, 2005, 12:59 AM »
My only complaint about the ARC-170 is that the lines and form of the whole thing look a little cartoonish to me... I don't know if that makes sense, but when I look at my X-wing it looks like a replica of something real that people broke sweat and likely some fingers to scrap together to fight the empire while in comparison the ARC-170 seems like..... a clean crisp CGI flashbang (i.e. bright and shiny, though it hasn't got much personality).

This could be a result of my bias against CGI, but I still feel like the ARC-170 lacks the grit and human feel that some of the figures have had.

Might be motivation for some of us to start posting here rather than RS, or at very least as well as posting elsewhere.

A spotlight figure, that can be critiqued by a body of its creators peers is something that would draw me in :)

The more talent present, the more constructive a "custom" section can be since there would be a lot more ideas floating around and a lot more inspiration for people who are genuinely interested... also, I'm not complaining about RS at all, but there are a lot of headswaps and LBC's simply because of the traffic. Also, on the rare occasion I post about mine I'd much rather have somebody reply like this -

"What you did with your choice of parts is fantastic.... the paint is nearly perfect but as you can see in this pic ::pic provided:: the insignia should be opposite of how you have painted it.... was that an intentional artistic license? If not, that's my only beef."

than like this (which is essentially people popping by to post pad, in my opinion)

"wow"

Goofy accesories?

I can understand if you do not like the paint app., but if you have any inclination to customize these accesories are gorgeous. I only regret having to buy the basic wookie for its accesories to compliment my sneak preview wookie. Also, if you are a MOC collector it could be part of the problem... open up this big (perhaps, too big) boy and maybe you'll have a change of heart  ;D

Could be a simple difference of opinion though, in which case I can relate.... there are plenty of figures that everyone loves that I am not too interested in.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Reference/ Background Thread
« on: June 13, 2005, 01:46 AM »
Hi, all

I need referance pics for my favorite R5, which is R5-K6.
I have a nice shot of the head  (which is all there was made for the films) I need to know what the body looks like. This might be tough (for me it is). I'm sure there is a referance for this someplace in the EU or inside a technical manual. If someone can find it I would be glad. Once I have the pics I'll make the figure and post it here  ;D

Here is the pic I have (I also found more angles)... but, I need to know what its body looks like

Also, I know it's not about the wookie, but there is a great snippit about why R4 is improperly designated here

I absolutely love this figure and it was finally picking this up that made me regret passing up the preview figures. I bought Tion Medon, and R4-G9 recently and I am in awe of these figures. R4 is my quintessential astromech frame. The dome is obviously an R2 and the body is the same or similar to best sculpt out there.... the customizing possibilities are endless despite what is, in my opinion, a lackluster "character" and paint app.

The wookie is similarly endowed with customizing potential and he has one up on all of the other wookies in that he has a great sculpt and no detail sculpted on so you can have a vanilla wookie or you can add all of the accesories you want. I wasn't fond of the basic line wookie warior but the sneak preview wookie is great if not a little thick... I wish the wookie warior's parts would interchange with the sneak preview wookie.

I couldn't ever afford or justify the purchase of one but I'd be happy just to be jealous of someone elses...

Having seen how poorly accesory sets sold in the past I don't think it's going to happen. I, personally, love the idea of accesory sets but I don't like what they offered already and I don't think they would do it right if they were to try again.

There's no such thing as to many imperials.

Damn straight.

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Modular Playsets
« on: June 3, 2005, 02:58 AM »
If not modular playsets it would be at least some consolation to have the bases interlock ad infinitum. When I first bought the ROTS Aayla Secura and saw the Battle Droid had nearly the same stand I thought the two would lock together and the more BD's I bought I could have a huge set-up. I also thought the bases that came with some of the other figures would interlock, but it seems that most don't... at least not more than two pieces.

They could actually make a playset from modular pieces in related figures like the Galactus from Marvel Legends.... I might actually buy every figure in a series rather than just the ones I like if they did that because I would have incentive to "collect them all"

Once they get past ROTS, I'd like to see the new figures in themes like they've done in the past... Cantina, Endor, Naboo,  Jedi Temple, Kashykk etc. etc.

Not all of the figures in an assortment would have to come with a huge pbase or piece of the modular playset.. most figures would come with a repeating floor pattern and then the delux figures would come with the three or four pieces that make the main structure. Obviously army builders would come with repeating ground pieces to make the set as large as one would like and the unique character would come with the big pieces.

Hey Hasbro! / Re: Does Hasbro have a warranty??

Oh, and on a seperate not Hasbro will replace defective products if you contact them and you're lucky from what I've read. I can't be certain about that, but I thought it was true.

Seems like they would get a lot of hassle from it... too many people could make claims about items they broke of their own fault, but...

I would be so happy if somehow Hasbro could offer to sell individual accessories in lots... kind of like the accesory sets but online exclusively. Maybe they could offer a limited selection to dealers and see if it works. I know it's never going to happen and I know it's not cost effective but imagine if there wetre a site you could go to and order Blastech rifles x50 at ten cents a piece or buy all of those accesories that comewith crappy figures and not have to get the figure....

Totally unrealistic, but man I would love to have a tiny rifle case full of rifles and a supply room for my troops and etc. etc.

Hey Hasbro! / Re: do not need more REHASHES!
« on: May 25, 2005, 04:42 AM »
I don't know how well an EU line would fly right now.  My big gripe about EU is that it's a world apart from the films in large part and why should we get figures from EU when we haven't even satisfied the demand for figures from the films.

Another note... kids aren't the only ones coming into the game late. I haven't been collecting SW for very and it's nice to not have to rely on ebay for everything... besides, rehashes are fine if they get a little better every time.
