Title: Death Star Trash Compactor Sets
Post by: Angry Ewok on November 15, 2002, 11:57 PM
So what does everyone think of the Wal-Mart Exclusive Trash Compactor Sets? They both seem to be works of art, but is "art" what you're looking for?
Me? I'm looking for something in between a peice of art and a toy. I like "playing" with my figures, but usually "playing" with them means I'm setting them up in dioramas and occasionally sending my Gunship in to strafe the whole lot :D...
I'm mostly concerned with just how posed they may be... Chewbacca seems to have his arms stuck in a mime position, and so does Leia. Han and Luke, on the other hand, look pretty cool with the exception of those puny rifles (those can't be the right scale).

Anyway, what do you guys and gals think?

For me it some ki9nd of  "expanded 25th Annyversary set", more like a sculptere.  ;D ;D A definitve must have

I am glad Hasbro makes this. Imagine if Dark Horse would have done something like that as a cold-gast porcelane thing. What would that cost ?   :o

I actually still haven't decided if I'll get it or not... I think its real great looking, but my collection is already getting to that point where I either need a bigger room, or I need to stop getting every "cool" thing I see.

I wonder if Hasbro will make a trend of this? I'll bet we see two 'Back Door' Sets based on ROTJ when C3PO, R2D2, Han, and Leia are all gathered at the entrance to the Sheild Generator. You heard it here first!  ;)

I like it and will try to get it but it dosen't look like it has much play in it. I hope it comes in a saga package so you can view it without opening it.

The sets look very nice.  I doubt there is much "play" in them though.  I hope I'll be able to find them around here.

Being the Completest I am, I will be getting these sets.
According to what I know here are the #'s for the sets;
Set #1 Luke & Han = 84931
Set #2 Leia & Chewie = 84930
The Case they come in = 84929 (X2 of each in a case)

I have asked a local Wal-Mart about these and they lady told me they will be in and to keep checking back.

I can pretty much confirm that these will be packaged in the Window style, so that's great news for you un-openers.  ;D

I have seen close-up pictures of these items and true, they are excellent sculpts, and we get a dianoga which is fantastic.  However, I do prefer figures which are 'in the background' and I'm growing a little tired of seeing the main characters just in different poses.

If they did more scenes with a variety of characters they would be more interesting.

I will still buy this, it looks great.

They look awesome. Unfortunately, stores in my area take a long time to get new figs and such. :(

They look great. Thought they might not be up here in Canada.  :(  Still a very nice piece.  Still have the same old crap sitting around the stores. Heck, some waves came out down east & we have not seen anything out west.  >:(

I found the set(s) this weekend. I little overpriced. When you put the dianoga together it is very large. I like the set(s). I say it is a must pick up for those who like display type figures.

Do the figures come out or are they stuck in the mold??

They are removable but very scene specific...that is they don't look quite right outside of the bases ;)

I still haven't seen these, but I will definitely be getting these when I see them.   I wish I could create awesome dioramas on my own, but since I can't.... I like all the extras Hasbro can throw into a figure package.   I'd love to see "real" accessory packs that would come with extra pieces to throw in a Jabbas throne room diorama, not just rehashed weapons.   As a diorama builder, I love all the 25th Anniversary sets they've come up with.

I have to see them for myself before I decide to pick them up for my son.  But they do look cool!

Before Thanksgiving we were searching Wal-mart diligently for the Cantina Bar scenes, but when I finally saw them at a Wal-Mart, we passed.  We already have the figures, and we already have the bar scene cardboard playset.  We can make a cool bar scene without the stools.  We may pick up some down the road just for the new figures though.

I've still never seen either of these Trash sets at retail.  I picked up one Han/Luke set in a trade last month, and have another several sets pending via a couple more trades as well, so hopefully soon I'll have my boxed and loose Trash sets, and can finally move on with my life!   ;)

I'm in Canada and it's been months since we've seen anything new. But if it ever shows up, I'll probably buy it.

It's been 3 months since my last post and I still haven't found them.  I guess it's time to start hitting the trade routes.   Of course, I still haven't found a 2003 figure yet, either.

I've seen these in the store only 1 time. That was about around mid or late January I believe. Never seen them since. Most Walmarts around here don't even have a tag on the shelf for them. Very elusive these are.

Where are you getting these from?  I haven't seen them available in any store or online.  LMK...

As bad as my Wal-Mart is they got in a couple of sets.  Now if they would mark them down like the Cantina figures Iit would be a good deal.

I found these when they first came out at Walmart, but I did have to go to the Walmart further away than my local one to get them. These sets are super nice and worth it although Chewie is a statue. LOL

Can someone pick some of these up for the rest of us who don't have them?  They've never been around in my area before... never!

Thanks!

They look absolutely excellent.
They are a bit pricey in the UK approx £15 each+ postage.
An extra £5 each, more than when the 25th anniversaries came out.
I don't know wether the base is worth a fiver or not but I will hopefully get them. They will look cool next to the 25th's.

I'll look this weekend as I think the Wal-Mart near me still had a few sets. I think they are around $16.90 or so. There were about three of each last weekend and they have been there for a while.

These two sets were very plentiful not too long ago. Now all of a sudden they have disappeared. I know at a few Wal-Marts around here they have been moving many of the toys to a discount aisle. I have seen the 12" marked down from $10.00 all the way to $3.00 each, The Deluxe FF Obi-Wan, Tyranus, and Jango for $5.00 each, the Tie Bomber for $12.00, and some other junk type stuff.
It might be worth checking out to see if they moved these sets to that aisle.

I am looking for a set for a fellow poster in my area. It seems as if they have disappeared all of a sudden.
