Title: Video Games and E3
Post by: FX-7 on April 3, 2003, 01:51 PM
Do you guys like Video Games?  I have a PS2 and have been having a lot of fun playing the new Two Towers game.  I have a N64 and NES too with lots of games.  I was thinking about picking up Bounty Hunter for the PS2 as well since it is a Star Wars game afterall.

I used to play video games long ago. I started with the old hand helds then I bought a Nintendo. After that I bought a NES & Sega CD. Man the nights my friend & I played games. Start at 6pm & finish when the sun came up. Loads of fun. Still got them & my TRS80.  :o

I have been getting back into games. I recently picked up an Xbox and have been very pleased with it. Although I am getting a calus on my thumb ;D

I have most of the SW games for it and I like them all so far.

I grew up with Atari 2600 so the new systems are simply amazing to me.

Yo I play video games. Mainly FPS on the computer though, over the internet... I like the interaction... I have the TWO TOWERS game for the game cube. It is really cool. I am stuck in the damn faghorn forest right now with the troll. Any suggestions on how to beat it?

I also got a Logitech wireless controller last week which is nice but not as nice as the Sony wired models...

Well I got LOTR:TTT and it is an awesome game, the medling of Movie and Game footage is really awesome.  I beat Fangorn Forest last night with Aragorn.  Great graphics, not terribly difficult and excellent use of the LOTR score make this an OCB 9 Kissies out of 10

I used to, but not much anymore.  Job, outdoor interests, kid, wife - all take up time (all good too).

Oh the glory days of playing.  Pong was so cool.  And then it got upgraded so you could actually play doubles.  Sure, it was a bit tricky hooking wires up to the back of the TV and maybe you got a little electrocuted.  Had a bit of an effect on the screen too, but wasn't so noticeable cuz everything was black and white...

Uh, whoops.  Excuse me.

More recently, various versions of Links (LS, 2001) which actually proved helpful in learning how to read greens.  Aa few SW games, but older stuff, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter and others.  Nothing too new.

Have super nintendo.  Wife plays Mario games but I don't use it much.  Have the SW version, so do occasional pod racing, but my old eyes get too burned by looking at those graphics (crappy, IMO).  Perfect Dark is a hoot, but I only play it when my nephew is in town, so twice a year.  but those nights are great.  Much beer and bad food, lots of blood and guts.

I knew Brent would bring up Pong :-*

I just picked up Grand Theft Auto III for the low low price of $15 at Best Buy.  It is now one of PS2's greatest hits...haven't played it yet but I had to pick it up to see what all the fuss was about.  Still waiting to pick up Bounty Hunter as well...I'll wait for a price drop

I also really want to get a Gamecube. There are a ton of good deals out there now including buy a GC and get Zelda or Metroid for free, I want to wait for the price drop though if it comes (anyone heard anything?)

I'm also waiting for the price drop on BountyHunter... I've played Splinter Cell lately, its nothing all that special unless your big into the stealth, sneaking around with a single clip of ammo in a crappy .22'ish pistol.
I've gotten to probably the third level and I've just lost interest, to be honest... I still think Hitman2 is the best shooter on the PS2, with GTA:VC taking the title for best game.

Actually, I'm pretty excited to see BH drop down to the $30 tag, but I doubt it will... Racer Revenge is still at 40 something, last I checked.  :'(

I bought an X Box back in January and I waste a couple of nights a week playing games. I bought Simpsons Road Rage a few weeks ago and have been playing it quite a bit. I also like Medal of Honor.

I rented Splinter Cell about a month ago, and it was great at first.  It has excellent video & sound quality, flows well, and has a good story.  Unfortunately I can't stand being in stealth mode the ENTIRE time.  I'm more of the type to walk into a room with a machine gun, and just level everyone in a matter of seconds.

That's why I liked Bounty Hunter so much.  Constantly kicking major butt in the game.  Who used those poisonous darts?  Definitely not me.  Flame thrower was my favorite weapon of choice.

I was never really able to remember to switch weapons, all I did was tap the damn buttons on the blasters, and on occasion, switch to flamer to roast those zombie things...
Anyway, speakings of Medal Of Honor... For all of us who loved Frontline on PS2, it's just come out that a second MOH is soon to come to PS2... This one is 'Rising Sun', Pacific Theatre.

For a couple of images of the game, check out this (http://www.gamespy.com/previews/march03/mohrisingsun/screenshots.shtml)!

Scott, E3 is coming at the end of this week, and there are a bunch of rumors floating around that all three consoles will see price drops.  The GameCube is rumored to be dropping to $99, and the XBox and the PS2 are rumored to be dropping to $149.
If these drops are going to happen, expect an announcement sometime in the next few days.

That said, though, Wal-Mart has a great GameCube bundle right now:

Indigo GameCube
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time / Master Quest
Nintendo GameCube / Game Boy Advance cable

All for $150.  Of course, if the drops happen, and Wal-Mart drops that bundle, too, then all that for $100 is even better--and a steal.

Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike and Mario Kart: Double Dash, both coming later this year, will be reason enough to buy a 'Cube. . .

OMG, new Mario Kart!   Now my wife will actually be happy when I buy one.  She misses our battles on the N64...we used to spend Friday nights drinking some beer and playing Mario Kart or Mario Party...

I'll print this page off to her as a testament!

From 4/23:

Quote
First look: Mario Kart: Double Dash

Nintendo releases the first gameplay information on its long-awaited GameCube racing game. First screens inside.

Nintendo has today released the first gameplay information on the GameCube version of Mario Kart via its official E3 Web site. The game will boast a number of new features, the most obvious and intriguing of which is that each kart is manned not only by a driver, whose attributes will affect the handling of the kart, but also by a second character that will be responsible for handling power-up items and weapons. In addition to six regular items that are available no matter which character is riding shotgun, each character will have access to a further eight items that are specific to them. Players will be able to have their two characters switch seats on the fly, which could make for some quite tactical racing since every change will alter both the handling of the kart and the items available.

Also, according to a report in the latest issue of Famitsu, a number of Nintendo characters that haven't previously appeared in Mario Kart games will also be making up the numbers on the starting grid. The 16 characters confirmed for inclusion in Mario Kart to date are as follows:

Baby Luigi
Baby Mario
Birdo
Bowser
Bowser Jr.
Daisy
Diddy Kong
Donkey Kong
Koopa Paratroopa
Koopa Troopa
Luigi
Mario
Peach
Wario
Waluigi
Yoshi

Famitsu's report also hints at support for up to eight players using two GameCube consoles, although no more specific details are available at this time. We'll bring you more information on the GameCube version of Mario Kart when we report live from E3 in LA next month.

Gamecube's been one of the best investments I ever made...  Well my ex got it for me for X-Mas the year it was released, but that's beside the point.

LOTS of great games, ports of great games from other systems as well, and more exclusives that you WON'T see ported to PC than any other system...

Eternal Darkness, the Resident Evil series, and Rogue Leader have already made the system worth it to me...  The games like Splinter Cell, and other Tom Clancy games have put it above and beyond...  Clone Wars, Bounty Hunter, and Rogue Squadron 3 will likely make it worth its weight in gold to me.  :D

I hgihly recommend getting one, even if it doesn't drop in price.

The new Medal of Honor: Rising Sun looks amazing as well.  The first MOH set in the Pacific theater should be awesome.  I own all the MOH for PS and PS2 and this one looks to be no different.

Spy Hunter 2 also looks like a good one.

Newest game coming out is a LucasArts non-Star Wars game, this one is called 'Secret Weapons Over Normandy', it's a WW2 flight-combat game... Very awesome looking. If you're any bit a fan of Medal of Honor or any flight games... Go to LucasArts and hit GAMES then go to 'Secret Weapons Over Normandy'... Since not too many of you guys can play the movies, lemme put it like this... I noticed the Me109, 262, Zero, B17, P51, P38, Dauntless, and many more apparent playable games... Definately worth a look.

XBox, PC, and PS2 only!

Post by: Scott on May 14, 2003, 09:10 PM
Dude at TRU told me the PS2 went down $30 today, expect XBox to follow at $30 and Gamecube to drop around $20.  That makes most of those GC bundles at $130 total...too good to pass up!
Title: Re: E3!
Post by: dustrho on May 14, 2003, 10:42 PM
I'm still going to wait to hopefully see that Gamecube go down to $99, and then I'll also be buying Rogue Squadron 2 and then 3 (when it comes out).

GC is $99 right now for the most part, I saw a bundle at TRU today of a GC, one controller and Zelda, Mario or Metroid for $150...can't beat it really, unless it goes $20-$30 cheaper

Title: Re: Video Games and E3

I'd like to know where the TRU guy got his info. Are those prices just a sale they will be running? Reason I ask, I've been looking around the various gaming sites and forums looking for info on these rumored price drops and all I've read that seems to be confirmed so far is a $20 price drop for the Xbox and PS2 and the PS2 is only temporariy at that. The price will go back up to $200 in June when they start shipping the units that include the network adapter with it.

I've read nothing on any price drop of the GC yet which kind of irks me as I'd like to get one now after seeing and reading more on Rebel Strike.  Though I guess $150 for the GC and the new Zelda game is still a good deal since you're basically paying $100 for the system then.

The prices are already in effect in stores too. I hit a TRU and Target at lunch and both those systems were already marked down to $179.99. GC was still at $149.99 however.  :(
