I have no problem at all with this repainted Obi-Wan Kenobi Jedi Interceptor.  It's a far superior paintjob to the original.  Which begs the question of why was the original so messed up?

The rumor mill also has it that Hasbro is re-doing the green Anakin Jedi Interceptor as well.  And the original release on that suffered from the same inaccurate paintjob as the original Obi-Wan fighter.  It's good to see Hasbro making good on this at the very least.

I understand there's still some demand for the army builders, but if the line pegwarms and it's the army builders at the forefront of that?  Hasbro needs to take the bigger picture into account and do what's best for the line.  And that might mean dialing back on the characters that are pegwarming.

In this case it means some of the army builders, even though some of them might be great figures.  And it also means Vader.  Hasbro has been a little Vader obsessed this year, with one in the coin album, one in the 30AC line and one in the SL line.  They need to strike a better balance so that the line will have some longevity.

Other Toy Lines / Re: McFarlane Sportspicks

I'm happy to get something of a break on Sports Picks for the remainder of the year.  The only thing I'll be after is the NY Giants 3" team pack.  I saw the Earl "The Pearl" Monroe figure from the new NBA Legends, and while I know a little of the history of that team, I've never really been a Knicks fan.  I was more excited to see the Bill Russell figure, to be honest.

Todd McFarlane has something against the NJ Devils, so I know I won't be seeing any of them in the NHL lineup.  At least I can take it easy until the local MLB players start showing up next spring.  But then I'm a little curious to see what they're going to do with the Roger Maris-Mickey Mantle 2-pack in the Cooperstown series.

30th Anniversary Collection / Re: 2008 Wave 1 - Revenge of the Sith

These probably will not hit until mid to late January.  We've still got three waves worth of 30AC that have not shipped at all, and a good deal of wave 5 and 6 yet to hit most stores.  And you can bet on mid to late January because of the post holiday doldrums and subsequent inventory process.

I've finally seen a few pieces of NFL 15 in the stores, but nothing so exciting as to make me want to buy one of these figures.  The overall appeal for Sports Picks has somewhat diminished for me.  Plus I don't like the new clamshell design.  It seems like you're getting less for your money, even if it's just a more compact package and the figure size remains the same.

As for the NFL 15 lineup?  Riddle me this:  why yet another Peyton Manning in a passing pose?  This is perhaps the 4th Peyton Manning in a passing pose in a row that McFarlane has offered.  How about Peyton at the line of scrimmage calling an audible the way he does?  Now THAT would be a really interesting new figure.

Beyond that, the Ray Lewis figure is kind of cool.  It's not really my thing, but it captures the guy's essence when he makes his way onto the field.

The Target sale seems to be hitting numerous product assortments.  The comic 2-packs are selling for $8.90.

Bought another Obi-Wan & ARC Trooper comic 2-pack on sale today for $8.90 at a nearby Target.  Nice value, and great customizing potential on the Obi-Wan.

I sure hope it's the OTC pilot- I can't believe they are using any other mold on these figures now-

That might just be a package mockup, and they might have only had the old TIE Pilot available for that photo.  But then again we did see the TRU exclusive TIE Fighter ship with either the POTF2 TIE Pilot or the SAGA Gold TIE Pilot.

I think that yes, we might be wrong on the troops thing.  I just came back from a store right around the corner from me.  It gets a LOT of collector traffic, and there's also a local collecting shop that supplements their own stock from this store.  And you know what?  It's packed to the gills with army builders.  I can go there and buy at least half a dozen of the following and not make a serious impact:

-AOTC Clone Troopers
-ROTS Clone Troopers
-Galactic Marines
-Death Star Troopers
-Stormtroopers
-Sandtroopers
-501st Clone Troopers

In the past I could understand why people clamored for some army builders.  Back in 1999/2000 the CommTech Stormtrooper was THE army builder.  Part of the reason why is because the sculpt was so much better than any previous Stormtrooper plus the fact that it did not really ship in great numbers.  And the same went for the Clone Wars ARC Troopers and Clone Trooper.  They weren't out in substantial numbers and they got gobbled up.  And in the case of the Clone Trooper there, it was one of the first really super articulated figures on the market, so naturally collectors and army builders were drawn to that figure.

But now?  Hasbro has flooded the market with Clone Troopers.  Just take a look at RS's class picture of the ROTS Clones.  It's an obscene number of Clone Troopers.  And they're almost all great sculpts.

Based on what I'm seeing at retail on a regular basis, it seems like the right time to dial it down a bit on the Imperial troops and the Clone troops.  I know I'd like to see a shift in focus with the troopers.  There are definitely people out there that want to build Battle Droid armies, Rebel armies and the like.  Pegwarming troops are not good for the overall health of the line.  The line needs to have broad appeal so that it will sell better.  So if that means a little less for the army builders...so be it.

I looked pretty closely at the silhouettes on the cardback.  It looks like those figures are as follows:

___  # 08/09  Imperial Evo Trooper
___  # 08/10  Imperial Jump Trooper
___  # 08/11  Maris Brood

Are the Anakin and Obi the same ones Target put out last year as exclusives?  I think they should have added the panning droid with those figures, maybe they would not have become peg warmers!

No, not at all.  And those came out in 2005.

The Obi-Wan in this wave is a kitbash of the ROTS Obi-Wan pilot figure.  The changes appear to be a new head sculpt and most of the skirt portion of the tunic appears to be made from softgoods.  There's a pic of that Obi-Wan in the cockpit of the Grievous starfighter, and it appears as though it might have some kind of scorch marks on the tunic.  ***EDIT - I looked at the image again, and that Obi-Wan in the Grievous fighter is a prototype, and the markings on it aren't scorches, they're the prototype indicators that Hasbro uses to identify pre-production pieces.

The Darth Vader in this wave appears to be the ROTS Evolutions figure.  It looks like the headsculpt might be slightly different, and the paint apps look a bit better, too.

The Panning Droid looks like it's a good figure on it's own.  Add in the mining platform and I think it's a good set.

Does anyone know how many more waves of the 30th they are going to do before they start TFU figures? OR are those going to be packed in the 30th cards as well? No more coins?   :(

From what I mentioned above, it appears that wave 2 is the first wave of The Force Unleashed.  There are rumored to be two waves for TFU, followed by a few 30AC transitional waves leading up the Clone Wars line.

Whoa, talk about some serious ADD.  Maybe try one question at a time.  ;D

I'm just puzzled about the first silhouetted figure.  It doesn't match up with any of the figures that we've seen before.  But it could be this one droid character called Proxy that's listed on the Force Unleashed characters page.

Not one, but TWO hot female Jedi?  WHOA.  Very cool poses, and the sculpts look dead-on.

Hmm.  Considering how difficult it was to get the last set, I may have to hit up HLJ for the new series.
