I was in the last one before it turned crazy and got closed. Any chance you can squeeze one more in?  :)

JD Sports Forum! / Re: Fantasy NBA?
« on: September 6, 2005, 03:09 PM »
Hey guys. Long time no see. Glad to see that Jedi Defender is still kicking and going strong at that. :)

I got the invite from John and I'd certainly like to be in. Like John said, we only had 7 last year and I believe 8 the year before so it will be nice to have 12 this time around. I find having a prize structure helps keep teams motivated as well as offering that extra bit of excitement in the form of a reward,  but if everyone thinks it will be competitive and fun without it then that sounds good to me as well.

I actually started a Fantasy NHL league and will be posting the details in the coming days at Rebelscum in the vintage section. I'll make sure to give you guys the info as well. I know hockey is a tough sell in the US so I'd be elated to get 8 players. I'm going to go with a small fee/prize structure for that one but I'll be making it pretty cheap.

Just had a very easy transaction with Dale and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again.  A true stand up guy!  ;D

Thanks Dale!

Vintage Kenner / Re: Questions on punched vs. unpunched cards
« on: May 5, 2004, 01:46 PM »
Guess I'll just have to specifically inquire on the matter whenever I'm looking into buying a new figure.   :-\  Going stickerless (and offerless) myself.  Did you go premiere card for everyone too?

I guess that's why I suggested you go unpunched, so as to avoid the hassle of finding nicely punched figures. There are still a ton of unpunched figures around, so for me it was an easy choice. Then again punched figures remind me of the figures being on a store shelf at one point and that in itself brings more nostalgia. Anyways your probably bettter off collecting both seeing as how you already own several punched. To answer one of your questions. I never really noticed a price difference to a major degree on either. UP was just a bit harder to find.

I was going premiere cardback, stickerless, offerless, and C9+. Needless to say it became quite hard to be pleased and very expensive. I dropped carded all together about 6 months ago and went on a loose rampage. Bad news... I'm getting the bug for carded again. I started by picking up a couple MOC LJN wrestlers, and the first was Mr.Fugi. Vintage MOTU and Star Wars MOC are really looking good right about now as well. Control, I need control.  :P

Matt, it sounds like you answered your own questions. Punched will probably not work for you.  If it is an issue now in any form of your collecting habits it will only grow worse later and drive you crazy when you look at your stuff and analyze each figures punch.  When I was doing the carded thing last year all my figures had to be unpunched with no stickers or cracks to the bubble.

It's kind of like collectors who hate stickers on the card (me), every once in a while I'd get a card with one on and it would stick out like a sore thumb and drive me nuts. I'd either have to try to take it off or sell it. Not worth the trouble imo.

Go with unpunched sweetness man!  ;D

P.S, Sorry I didn't actually answer any of your questions!  :P

Nice!

Is the price as good as it sounds? I don't know too much about headers and displays but I didn't think they could be had for just $40. Sweet score, whatever the case!

That's what I figured Dale, if the Blue Snag is sealed it just really sweetens the deal, if not I'd say still say the stuff is worth $250-$350.

The Jedi case has to be worth a decent amount as well, you just don't see too many of them around. Any idea on the value of a ROTJ case? I couldn't find a single one in the completed items section on Ebay.

Vintage Kenner / Re: FOTW #2 - Luke Skywalker

I truly had no idea the Luke DT saber was so... non yellow. It doesn't look anything like the single telescoping version in color and shade. Thanks for sharing that Dale. I am now wiser from it.  ;)

Thanks, I sure hope he is sealed.   ;D

Looking up at your BIN's Fish. Damn good prices I must say.  ;)

Man do they look like crap Dale!

At least with some the repros they made it easy to check.  ;D

Thanks Dale.  :)

I lke the idea of the magnifying light, it must really help for the blue weapons (to see through them - which really helps in telling if they are real, as you can't see through painted weapons).  I'd always put them up to the ceiling light but that sounds much easier.  ;)

I'd hate to be building a collection 5-10 years from now as it seems everyone is getting into the repro game. It is only a matter of time before repros outnumber the real, if that isn't already the case.

I know there are websites that answer most repro and color questions but I'm writing this list out anyways, as I've spent 6 months bending, comparing, dropping, and analyzing what feels like 1000 weapons and I'd hate to see all that time wasted. You should have seen the look on my wife's face the first time she saw me dropping weapons on a table. ;D It's been a very frustrating and expensive learning experience to say the least. How many figures did I buy complete only to have to sell them back weaponless for a quarter of what I paid. If I get a repro it goes right in the garbage. Anyways hopefully it helps someone one day.

This list doesn't deal with repros as much as it deals with colors. Keep in mind that in some cases figures were packed with the wrong colored weapons, particullary with Tri-Logos. They are not listed of course as they are the wrong weapon.

Things to watch out for:

Painted weapons; In almost every case Kenner weapons are supposed to be molded in the color they are. If you think the weapon is painted (It appears too glossy), scratch it or bend it, if the paint comes off it's a repro. The repro lightsabers are often painted.

Color; So many repros are the wrong color. Blue, Grey, and Black are the often used wrong colors. If you have a grey Stormtrooper blaster or a Han blaster it's a fake.

Bendable; Repros are often not very flexible and will sometimes snap or feel like they are going to when bent. They are often resin based and will be very white on the inside. You want to see the same color on the inside that you see on the outside. (Although there will be white stress markings when bent on a real weapon)

Drop Test; The really crappy repros are easy to hear when dropped. They have a high pitched sound. Use this when you have a real one to compare.
