Saga '02-'04 / Re: New Saga 4-packs: Love 'em or hate 'em?
« on: May 28, 2003, 02:31 PM »
So, has anyone mentioned that the Leia is a kitbash, yet?  It's the POTJ Bespin Escape Leia body plus vest and a different head.  The shoes or lack of boots are the giveaway.

Is anyone else disappointed Leia doesn't have Hoth boots? It was the first thing I noticed. Of course I'm hopeless.

Does anyone know if Boba Fett is a ROTJ repaint or will he be sporting deco identical to the 300th figure TESB version? That would be an acceptable variant, not unlike the new Hoth Han lovely BLUE/crappy brown jacket figure.  :D

Watto's Junk Yard / Other boards
« on: May 28, 2003, 01:50 PM »
I was wondering if there were any other boards members here go to in their dubious free time.

For Star Wars chat, I stick to JediDefender and GH.com's BHC. Occasionally I'll visit the Official Site's forum, but only to bump OCB's Ice Cream Maker Guy petition thread (which is officially sanctioned; congratulations Scott!).

As a DC Comics fan, I'm a regular at the DC Direct board. Oddly enough, it's also a great plce to talk about other 6" figures, especially Marvel Legends.

Every once in a while I'll go off on the crappy business tactics Art Asylum practices on their board. (I like their Minimates but wish they'd be in the same scale with each other!) It's definitely an R-rated forum, language wise. :o

Aside from CurlTalk and the Militant Breastfeeding Cult, that's pretty much it for me. How 'bout you?

Agreed, we should stick to the movies. There are way too many EU characters that didn't deserve to be created in the first place let alone be merchandised in ANY way, shape, or form.

That said, I vote for Uncle Owen & Aunt Beru... crispy style. Not a lot of play value there aside from the obvious bendy scratch & sniph.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Rerelease Leia, Han and Darth Maul Carded

This is Leia's sporting blaster. It only has one grip. The position of her left hand in the second picture gives the impression of a second grip, though none is visible.

Sorry folks. No variation here.

Back on topic, I'm glad to see Hasbro offering what I consider to be definitive sculpts of these characters. Changing the accessories might seem like dirty pool at first, but it's definitely an improvement over pricier CommTech chips and impossible-to-find 2-packs. I'd sooner see quality figures reissued than arbitrarily resculpted.

And you can't have too many Darth Maul figures. In Episode III, Mace Windu unveils his legion of Sith apprentices (apprenticii?) to defeat the Jedi left standing from the Clone Wars once and for all. Buy 'em up while you can.  8)

Maybe Anakin plants a mind plant in [Leia] in Episode III like Spock does to McCoy in Wrath of Khan...either I am onto something or on something

See, this is the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that I enjoy reading. If only you could free your inhibitions and retain your sobriety. Oh well.

Apology accepted, just don't let it happen again.

Until next weekend. (And only at Rebelscum.  ;D)

Yuichi Sugiyama. I'd sooner take a Bea Arthur figure. Honestly.

No question for me: Twin Pod Cloud Car Pilot. This is one of my favorite vintage figures (and EU from the neck down). Personally I don't think Hasbro can do better than Kenner's version. And yes, that's a challenge.  :P

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Should Hasbro re-release the Eopie?
« on: May 28, 2003, 11:03 AM »
Adding Shmi too with the ability to straddle this fugly beast would be very cool.

The Mother of a Sith Lord does not straddle. She rides side saddle.

I'm sure there are enough collectors still missing the original Eopie with Qui-Gon to warrant a straight reissue. Hasbro would probably want to update the packaging though, which would make investors happier and MIMB completists cringe.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Movie = Aliens 5!!
« on: May 22, 2003, 10:34 AM »
Ten years ago I thought an Aliens vs. Predator flick would be awesome. Today, I could not care less. I really like the Alien franchise, but Predator 2 was just awful. I'm afraid the inclusion of Predators would water down the Alien films.

It makes for a fun comic book premise, but it would be an arbitrary diversion from the Ripley Saga.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: How Long Will Hasbro Make 3 3/4"
« on: May 21, 2003, 05:26 PM »
Can you imagine if all the 3.75" figures you have were at the 6" scale?

That's why I'm suggesting definitive sculpts rather than numerous resculpts. I just can't see the sense in doing a dozen Tatooine Luke figures in such a large scale. One good one is all that's needed, then you move on to the next costume change like the X-wing pilot or Medal Ceremony.

With so many characters from SIX movies, a line like this could last for years rarely offering relatively obscure characters like Ice Cream Maker Guy or Coleman Trebor.

Here's my prediction:

In 2006, Hasbro will take a hiatus on all things Star Wars. After a few years of pent-up demand, possibly coinciding with a multi-media event, the Star Wars line will relaunch yet again under the title Star Wars: Full Force.

The line will offer 6" action figures of characters from each movie in definitive sculpts with loads of accessories and standardized articulation. The debut wave will be from A New Hope and go something like this:

- Luke Skywalker (Tatooine) - Accessories include macrobinoculars, hat, rifle, soft goods poncho, removeable utility belt, stormtrooper belt with blaster & grappling hook, and stand.

- Ben Kenobi - Accessories include soft goods robe, Anakin's lightsabre with removeable blade, Obi-Wan's lightsabre with removeable blade, training remote, blast helmet, and stand.

- Han Solo - Accessories include removeable belt with blaster, removeable vest, replaceable gloved hands, headset, stormtrooper belt with blaster, snap-on "formal" collar, ceremonial medal, and stand.

- Chewbacca - Accessories include a removeable bandolier strap, headset, binders, bowcaster, Imperial blaster, mouse droid, two interchangeable heads (one neutral, one snarling) and stand.

Other, more accessory-challenged figures will be offered as 2-packs: Princess Leia & Grand Moff Tarkin, Artoo & Threepio, Jawa & Tusken Raider. Still others will be offered exclusively as Deluxe figures, like the Death Star Commander with Detention Cell Console or the TIE Fighter Pilot with TIE Cockpit.

Due to the larger scale, playsets and vehicles will be limited to diorama style display environments like Luke's Tatooine Repair Bay or the Millennium Falcon Cockpit. Vehicles like the Landspeeder will likely demand a $20 - $25 retail pricepoint while Luke's X-wing will be an Online Collectors Series exclusive available for preorder for only $99.99.

Jedi Master Points will still be worthless.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: If YOU could pick some Screen Scenes
« on: May 21, 2003, 03:44 PM »
I'd like to see the Rebel Medal Ceremony from ANH.

The previous Luke and Leia figures could use resculpting and Han's never been done with his collar closed. This would make a nice centerpiece to a three-set scene that would include Artoo & Threepio with a giant temple column on one side and Chewbacca & Dodonna with a matching column on the other.

Saga '02-'04 / Figures with Micro Machines
« on: May 21, 2003, 12:07 PM »
Two great tastes that go great together!

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I collected both Hasbro's 3 3/4" line and Galoob's MicroMachines. Given the "soft market" for micro scale toys (although Playmates is launching Speedeez and Mattel has just introduced its own new line of micro Hot Wheels), I was thinking of a way I could get my figures and micros in the same package.

I miss Micro Machines, and I love that Hasbro has put a new emphasis on decent pack-ins with their figures. I was thinking Hasbro could start offering MicroMachine vehicles as pack-ins with 3 3/4" scale figures, sort of like the Darth Maul with Sith Infiltrator in the Episode I line.

I think this would be a natural for figures that are tough to accessorize. For instance, Lama Su was a cool character (the figure could have been taller), but how much cooler would it have been to include one of those flying whale beasties instead of any empty jar o' clone? Same with Zam Wesell, who easily should have included her micro Speeder.

The upcoming rumored ANH Luke and Vader repacks could come with a micro Landspeeder and TIE fighter respectively. Battledroids could come with micro scale versions of Hailfire Droids and Spider Droids while Clone Troopers could come with Republic Gunships and AT-TEs.

Anyone else wild about this idea?

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Luke and Darth: A New Hope...What are they?
« on: May 21, 2003, 11:44 AM »
My money is on repacks. Considering Hasbro's reissuing Darth Maul from the Masters of the Dark Side 2-pack, I'd bet they're doing the same with Vader. This is a great vanilla ANH Vader sculpt and deserves to be offered again.

As for Luke, I'm expecting any one of the recent Tatooine versions (TRU Landspeeder, maybe?) finally with a poncho.
