I'm not terribly surprised.  Halle Berry's star has fallen somewhat.  She's done some great work over the years, but it seems like she's not so much the darling of casting directors that she was 10 years ago.  And perhaps she's not getting the offers that she used to get?  I think that made casting her in this new X-Men project that much easier.

Finally got a chance to see the episode this afternoon.  From a story standpoint, Filoni & company totally telegraphed Barriss's connection with Ahsoka's case.  Especially when the two of them had their exchange in the Temple in the first episode of this arc, and again when Ahsoka reached out specifically to Barriss when she was in the Coruscant underworld.

The end of the previous story arc, where Sidious said that he had a use for Darth Maul rather than killing him, might have led you to believe that Sidious might employ Maul to implicate Ahsoka in this plot.  But alas, this story arc did more to show the increasing divisions between the Republic and the Jedi.  And it also served to highlight the decreasing ability of the Jedi to use The Force.  Mace talks about it in AOTC, but here we actually see it happening.

I still suspect that we have not seen the last of Ahsoka.  Especially since she provides an added dimension to Anakin Skywalker's character.

Fantastic!  I can vaguely recall seeing this on television around the time the movie was released.  Great stuff!

Expanded Universe one will really be a waste of time...let's do it!

As would Clone Wars.  Nevertheless....

Hmmm.  I was thinking of picking up the Lannister version, but I wanted to find out if there was a Stark or Baratheon version first.  But now I may just get the regular Blu Ray / DVD / Digital copy version.

Got a whopping 1 figure from my 2012 list confirmed back at SDCC '12, but those hopes have been temporarily dashed when the Droid Factory line was killed.  But with the rumor of a Droid Factory multipack being in the works, I'm really hopeful that R5-X2 will indeed happen.  So R5-X2 remains on the list for now.

1 - Tendau Bendon - Ithorian Senator

2 - PK Droid

3 - Gardulla the Hutt

4 - Tey How

5 - Naboo Security Officer

6 - Maoi Madakor - Captain of the Radiant VII

7 - Antidar Williams - Pilot of the Radiant VII

8 - R5-X2

9 - Elan Mak

10 - Erdan

The Vintage Collection / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting?
« on: February 26, 2013, 01:28 PM »
This isn't so much about the future of Star Wars, but more about Hasbro's recent past:

The more I think about it, the more I start thinking that between the G.I. Joe - Retaliation line (and the associated movie), along with the Battleship movie might be partially related to the current state of things we're seeing from Hasbro in the Star Wars line.  I get the sense that Hasbro getting itself involved (more directly) in the movie business may have been an unwise move, and it may have cost Hasbro a serious ammount of money.  You may recall that Hasbro has been trying to get more involved in generating their own media, like movies, television series, etc.  Is it possible that this foray into a new business has had a major impact on their toy business?

Look at the movie track record:  Battleship was a major bomb.  It cost some $200 million to make the movie, and it only grossed $65 million in the US.  The international numbers were not impressive.  Not a rave success for Hasbro Studios, by any stretch of the imagination.  Seeing how this movie was a partnership with Universal, I don't think Hasbro Studios was left completely holding the bag, but they probably dealt with a significant loss in the tens of millions of dollars.

And then there's GI Joe - Retaliation which essentially got pulled from it's original release date last year.  It sounds like the movie had major problems and needed to be seriously overhauled.  All the while the toy line was released and then there were rumors swirling that the product for the movie was going to be pulled from the shelves.

And then there was the news from the investor conference call that preceded Toy Fair.  Hasbro's CEO called on their various units to cut costs and to cut the number of SKU's for each license.  Lo and behold, we saw that the Star Wars line has been scaled back considerably with a focus on serious cost cutting.  Coincidence?  Hmmmm.

Another potential explanation is that the current ownership of Hasbro might be looking to sell the company.  Extreme cost cutting like we're seeing is occassionally the hallmark of a company trying to make themselves look as profitable as possible to a potential buyer.  All of this is food for thought on the state of things now and in the near future.

I saw exclusive versions of GoT season 2 DVD/BluRay/Digital Copy combo packs at Best Buy.  One features the Lannister sigil, and another features the Greyjoy sigil.  Are any other retailers offering House sigil specific packaged versions of season 2, or is it just the two versions at Best Buy?

The Barriss angle is interesting.  She was after all one of the Jedi who had been introduced in Attack Of The Clones whose fate we never witnessed in Revenge of the Sith.  There was an Order 66 scene featuring Barriss in the comic adaptation of ROTS, but not the film.

I also really liked that smaller gunship.  It was almost like a cross between a Republic Gunship and a TIE Interceptor, but with the cockpit of the Virago.

Bought the Class I 501st AT-RT tonight.  That whole wave seems to have gotten a little scarce, so I wasn't going to try doing any bargain hunting for the final remaining Class I vehicle that I had yet to score.

Finally saw some of the Iron Man 3 Assemblers at retail.  Meh.  They're pretty underwhelming.  But they're also the result of a directive from Hasbro corporate to cut costs and offer figures that will give Hasbro and retailers the biggest bang for the buck.

TVC figures marked down to $4 at WalMart stores in my neck of the woods.  And $4.99 at TRU stores.  Amazingly enough I managed to score a red bandana Kithaba at the TRU clearance price!

Middle Earth / Re: Lord of the Rings Figures

I found a fairly decent archive of Toy Biz Lord of the Rings figures.  I think some of the better FOTR figures were the ones that were offered on the later smaller cards.

The Fellowship 9-pack has always been one of my favorite pieces in the line since it had all of the characters AND the likenesses were pretty good.  But I also really liked the Frodo & Sam 2-pack with the Elven boat.

Hmmm.  Primary antagonist?  Given the storyline of DOFP, I would think that Dinklage might be voice acting.  The Sentinels are the primary antagonists in the future part of that story.  Is it possible that they might introduce a character like Master Mold as the guiding force of the Sentinels in the future?

***EDIT - According to THIS ARTICLE, Dinklage is likely to be playing Bolivar Trask, the scientist who invented the Sentinels.

The story definitely becomes more complicated with how the movie storyline has dealt with Cyclops, Jean Grey, et al.

BTW, Qui-Gon Jim...love the Puck idea!
