Power of the Jedi / Help with my Sandtrooper card backs
« on: September 3, 2005, 05:23 AM »
Hi all,

I have just received a POTJ Sandtrooper which I was about to open for display when I realised its card back was 0400. Is this any more or less common the 0300 I have on my wall? I know neither will be "rare" but if one were made in larger number than the other, I'd obviously open the less common one.

Thanks for your help,
Rob

A few months ago I realised that the spare room which held my 500 or so modern MOCs was starting to look really stupid.  The generic nature of the cards meant I found it so hard to focus on any particular item.  And basically I had no more space for the endless lines. The final straw was the ROTS line which I HATE carded.  So my collection has been pretty much cut down to next to nothing...although I’m aware that an outsider would still call it excessive ;)

Currently I have:

30 vintage Palitoy MOCs, mostly ROTJ and TL but all c8+ with clear bubbles.  This is my main line of collecting and makes me feel like I’m seven years old again.

The 12 VOTC figures carded.

Holo ROTS Yoda carded.

15 AFA-graded modern figures...I love the cases. Some variations and the odd exclusive such as Silver Vader and Sacul.

25 HTF modern figures from Ep1 to Saga

60 loose figures from the modern lines, mostly OT but also nearly all the clones released in recent years.  I display these in a glass cabinet.

I don't regret dumping completism because I was keeping so many of my figures for the wrong reasons.  I looked at each item individually to decide if I still wanted it.  I know that feelings can change but to be honest, I've had pretty much every figure carded and loose since 1999 and I've had plenty of time to decide which items I actually want in my collection.

I've also gone off my LOTR figures so they might be the next to go!

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: DVD Burner Question
« on: June 19, 2005, 07:10 PM »
Essentially you need something like DVD-Decryptor to rip the disc to your hard drive (as a DVD folder) and then (if your burner is single layer) DVD Shrink to make it fit on a domestic single layer DVD+/-R.

Both of these are free.  More general advice can be found at www.videohelp.com

I did see that version but the basic picture was worse.

There's a DVD rip out there now so, if I could get that, the timer prob becomes academic.  It might be a bit too scary to try and get this new version though so I might not bother  ;)

1. ESB
2. ANH
3. ROTS / ROTJ
4. TPM
5. AOTC

I keep telling the people that it's actually AOTC that contains the worst crimes against acting, dialogue and use of CG, but no one will listen  ;D

TPM wasn't that bad....no...really!

Got my first dual-layer DVD writer today  :)

Anyone know how to blur out the timecode on that copy of ROTS?  That would look sweet burned onto a dual layer dvdr without any compression

I have 28 DVDs in my collection.  They are all Doctor Who discs and I need to buy them all to maintain the “set”. To this end I have another 6 DVDs in a box set on their way which are Region 1 and not available in the UK.  They have different cover designs which set them apart from the standard British releases so I hope I don’t develop a side line which could involve getting ALL the US R1 discs! The Who DVDs are “collected” because, just like with Star Wars figures, it’s very important to own them all regardless of whether I actually like them or not.

I have about 20 other DVDs which are just things to watch rather than collectables.  I don’t feel the need to have any more discs as most films are shite and not worth playing more than once.

So here’s my collection:

An image is just a file backup of a CD…you can use the “image writer” instead of your burner if you want to burn the disc later or make multiple copies from the disc’s image file.

You can either save the image and then burn it with the File>Burn Image option or switch your recorder to the DVD-writer.  As you say, only recorders show up in the “recorder options” list, so that’s the one to choose.

Collections / Re: My collection…

I've just realised that I'm going to have to completely re-do these pics!

Since they were posted last year I have gone from carded to loose with the modern stuff and only my vintage Palitoys are still on the wall along with a few modern HTFs.  I also have about 10 AFA graded modern figures that I need to put up shelves for.  I hope to get a huge display cabinet to show off my Episode One to ROTS collection.

There are a lot more LOTR and rat pics to be added too.

I saw a right creepy bunch in TRU last weekend.  Most were only just over half my height and had squeaky and/or whiney voices.  They didn’t seem to have enough money to buy all the figures, and several of them were accompanied by a regular-sized person that appeared to be in charge of the cash.

What got me was their weird choice of the collectables on offer… “wow, there’s an Anakin”, “Hey dad, don’t you think Obi Wan is so cool looking?”

Clueless ;)

Mine is of the Tenth Doctor.

It's a shame about Nine, because he has been brilliant in the new series.

He does kind of have a "rat-like" face, I can see how you'd like him.   ;)

Hey, I resemble that allegation  ;)

Nice to see you here!  JD is like RS minus a few annoying issues, and the traffic.
