New exclusve set from KB. 8 Existing figs and what appears to be a new Silver Vader fig. Pretty pricey for $50.

)
Play out the greatest moments in Star Wars history with detailed, poseable Star Wars figures. This 9-Pack of Star Wars figures includes the great Silver Darth Vader collectible figure. Other figures included are Luminara Unduli, Count Dooku, Royal Guard, Kit Fisto, Bail Organa, C3PO, Ki-Adi-Mundi and Chancellor Palpatine. All figures are fully poseable. Darth Vader figure measures 4.5" tall, and other figures measure 4" tall.

That one came out of nowhere it seems. Thanks for posting the link/pic though. Kind of an interesting choice of characters/figures though, not exactly one that's going to make it a big seller with collectors or kids it would seem. At least I know that Luminara, Ki Adi, Palpatine, and Bail Organa aren't too tough to get a hold of here :).
-
Wow! $50 for a new silver Vader. :P
-
It looks like a silver version of the ROTS Vader.
What bastards!
-
I'm officially drawing the line.
I won't be buying this. Completeist be damned.
-
Nice avatar there rt (do you have any of the mcfarlane figs?).
Anyway, I can hardly wait to watch the reaction from Jared and Matt on this :P
No KB here, KB won't accept Canadian issued credit cards --->non-issue for me.
It displays nicely but what an odd, nonsensical, detached collection of characters.
-
$50. friggin dollars! Lets have a bit of a bigger pic to work with here.
It displays nice I guess. :-\
-
At least it's available on the website. I had a hell of a time trying to track down all the prior Transformer exclusives from them as they never listed them online. No there's no KB's remotely close for us Minnesotans.
I'm a sucker for packaging so I'm sure I'll be picking this up unfortunately. :(
-
This is Hasbro's step process:
1) Bonus Figure
2) 9.99 exclusive
3) 12.99 exclusive
4) 20 to 25 convention exclusives
5) $50 exclusive
6) $100 2-pack?

No McFarlane figs. My son kept on breaking them so I stopped collecting. BTW, front row when Ozzfest kicks off here in Mass next month. Cant wait to see Maiden again, its been a few years. Plus they are only touring with material from the first 4 albums. Drool. The only bad part is that Velvet Revolver will be filling in for Maiden for the second half of the tour :'(
Would it of hurt to put one unreleased fig in this mess. Since this is a preorder, I wonder if the figs in this set will be the pegwarmers that are sent back in a few months??? Kind of like KB did with the SAGA 4-packs a while back.
Two reasons to fail. 1st, most of these figs are all background boring characters and 2nd the exclusive fig has been done to death with the Silver apps. Wont be buying unless clearanced. Why not offer a Obi-Wan, Anakin, Greivous, Emperor, Dooku, Clone, Padme or some other main characters. Not that I would buy it, but maybe kids would be more interested. But what parent is going to shell out $50 for a pack of figs? Especially when they can all be bought seperately at a cheaper price. Definite clearance bin material :P
Anyone else notice that the names under a couple of the figs do not correspond with the correct figure? Talking about Dooku and Luminara. Not sure if this is a mockup, but let the errors already begin.
-
****. Double **** (with a "new" figure in it). Dammit.
Note: That's probably just a mock-up, I'm sure, but they've got Dooku and Luminara reversed in the package there.
-
Maybe I'll pick it up when it eventually goes on clearance...
-
New exclusve set from KB. 8 Existing figs and what appears to be a new Silver Vader fig. Pretty pricey for $50.
::)
Eight repackaged figures with ONE "new" one that is really not that new since this is the THIRD Silver Vader? >:(
I'd rather have the $50.
Jeff
-
anyone think these will be "shelf sitters"? I can't imagine many people picking these up. They look great displayed but $50 is a bit much, considering that everyone only wants it for the silver vader.
-
This is what I think... (http://static.ytmnd.com:8000/68000/68273/sound.wav)
Not another exclusive! I can't take any more.
-
Definitely looks like a mock up - this had the potential to be a cool set...could have made it a Sith vs. Jedi kind of theme or something along those lines.
Let's think about this for a sec okay? If you want to sell a ****load of these things, do something along the lines of the trooper Evo set.
Throw in an exclusive SA Blue clone (raid on the temple), kit bashed Vader, Obi Wan with cloth cloak, Ani with cloth cloak, Palpy, plain white #41 clone, Greivous, Yoda (soft goods), & a red royal guard.
Throwing a bunch of figures into a box and painting one of them just doesn't make much sense to me...but this is coming from the company who can't keep clone troopers on the pegs...
-
anyone think these will be "shelf sitters"?
Self shitters, more like. As in, I just shat myself realizing Hasbro/KB just earned another $100+ of my money on some more rehashed horse****. God, I really need to take the jump, and get some OCD meds so I can lay off of crap like this...
But hey, at least it looks like they're sticking a red Royal Guard in there, so that makes 2 of the 9 worth it... ::)
-
BTW, that's not the ROTS Vader, is it? That looks more like the Throne Room (saber throwing) Vader from the Saga/OTC line. Yes? Or maybe I just haven't looked at my ROTS Vader close enough, but his pose and cape seemed to be more neutral than that, IIRC...
-
Quite possibly - I think you're right.
I think it's time you joined the Dark side JM, and just collect loose - it will allow you more money and less frustration....but you already know that!
:-X
-
Yeah, I definitely already know that alright, but unless I get those OCD meds, no can do Travis. I've been
a packaged and loose completist Hasbro's bitch for almost a decade, so there's no stopping now! ::)
Also, is that just the packaging's artwork behind the figures, or is it some big type of figure stand/display base? I can't tell...
I think I figured out a way for me to soften the blow on this one, at least as far as some of the loose figures go. I've been meaning to pick up some extra Jedi and Seperatist figures for my AOTC Arena diorama that I plan to put together soon (since I don't usually buy extras of Prequel figures beyond just the usual two), so I can at least use the Dooku, Luminara, Kit, and Ki-Adi for that. I'm fine with the exclusive Vader figure too. I'm cool with the Royal Guard (since that's essentially an OT army builder there, and VHTF one at that), and I won't even mind having an extra 3PO since that'll work in some OT dioramas nicely as well.
So I guess the only figures I'm really gonna waste some money on are the Bail and Palpy. I do like the packaged look there too. It kinda reminds me of the much smaller POTJ set that was exclusive to Mexico. It's a unique display of the figures that we don't usually get, and with the attractive window box and all, I can almost sorta stomach this thing. Almost.
Still sucks though! :P
-
Things that make you want to go "Hmm..." ::) I don't think the line is selling so poorly they already have to dangle pegwarmers at Kb with the prospect of the Red Guard and yet another silver Vader, but who knows.
-
Still sucks though! :P
Agreed.
Like Matt - this will cost me $100 just to have an open Silver Vader #3 - BTW - I revise my original guess, it is definitely a Throne Room Vader in there.
Anyway, this set is just plain stupid.
To someone who wants to give a kid a collection "starter" the Silver Vader is sorta like, "What the f**k, why isn't my Vader black?" and to the regular collector it's "I gotta get all these other f**king figures again AND pay $50 just to get ANOTHER Silver Vader?!"
Whoever at Hasbro sold them this sh*t earns Salesman/woman of the year IMHO.
-
It's times like this that I really enjoy being the casual collector that I am - meaning I buy what I like and pass on the things I don't!
:P
-
Agreed ruiner, I feel bad for all the rest of you guys though, this is crap >:(
-
BTW, that's not the ROTS Vader, is it? That looks more like the Throne Room (saber throwing) Vader from the Saga/OTC line. Yes? Or maybe I just haven't looked at my ROTS Vader close enough, but his pose and cape seemed to be more neutral than that
It certainly looks that way to me as well, Matt. The thing that makes me suspect it is definitely the Saga TR Duel Vader is the way the right arm is in the photograph. It looks articulated and it looks very loose (just like the TR Duel Vader), but regardless of what it is based on, as Groundskeeper Willie would say, IT'S SHITE!
Since this is a preorder, I wonder if the figs in this set will be the pegwarmers that are sent back in a few months??? Kind of like KB did with the SAGA 4-packs a while back.
It wouldn't surprise me a bit if that were the case. If you think about it, all of those figures, with the exception of the ERG and the (gag) Silver Vader are very easily found and some of them (Palpatine, Bail, and Fisto) are essentially pegwarmers right now. The thing that cracks me up is that not only is KB going to charge more than everyone else for their own figures, but it's essentially a two pack of those 9.99 Saga four packs of pegwarmers with a ninth figure that was probably done by some high school shop students with a can of Krylon. :D
Is it any wonder why KayBee is closing so many stores?
-
Yup, KB just broke me of my completist needs. What a bizarre collection of figures. ::)
-
I'm cool with the Royal Guard (since that's essentially an OT army builder there, and VHTF one at that),
This is off topic, but what a dramatic difference between the US and Canada. I could go out and pick up 10 red guards today with no problem at all. They're just sitting on the pegs. I've seen so many I left 2 US carded versions on the pegs for other folks when I was in Fargo. Naturally we've received no blue guards up here, at all, so I again say thanks to pmundheim for firing a couple my way.
-

Precisely!
-
You know what I was thinking? What if all of the non-Vader figures are random, like the KB four packs during SAGA?
But, yeah, this is a piece of garbage. I think it would at least be good for kids if it was all major players and a proper Vader. But as it is, it's nonsense.
I'm glad I broke my completist ways a while ago. It was the Saga Force Flippers that did it for me.
-
You know what I was thinking? What if all of the non-Vader figures are random, like the KB four packs during SAGA?
That's a very good point, and I started to think that it would be very possible. But the packaging is actually labelled with the characters names, so they're unlikely to be randomly packed.
But based on the characters they put in the set, you'd think these 8 were randomly picked by KB/Hasbro. How else could they come up with such a strange combination? ::)
-
I may have considered buying this at clearance if some of the 8 figures were clone troopers. I would have paid $50 if all 8 were different clone troopers. Of course I have a better chance of winning the lottery than that happening.
-
Damn Damn Damn! I have no idea what to do about this one. I think i will wait for some more pics before i decide. I thought Hasbro was supposed to be done with the silver figures. >:(
-
If I were you, I'd pass. The silver figure thing is played out - if you want, send me a Throne Room Vader and I'll paint it for ya at no charge!
You supply the paint though!
-
Well I still have not seen a red royal guard so maybe I will buy this? Ha! Ha! No I won't. I did buy Lava Vader, Holo Yoda, Target Clone, and the EB set though. So, you never know but this certainly is near the bottom of my want list.
Yeah, it could have been more intesesting had they mixed some cooler characters together. Say, Vader, Dooku, Palpatine, Clonetrooper, Yoda, Kenobi, Anakin, Kit Fisto, Aayla Secura. Something like that.

My wife used to inspect septic tanks. She had all sorts of pics of crap on our computer :)
-
If this thing consisted of four Clones, four red Guards, and the Vader, I'd have bought one.
-
I'm sure these will be on clearance later...
What they should have done is this -
- Silver Vader
- two 501st SA Clone Troopers
- two yellow Utupau Clone Troopers
- two AT-TE Gunners
- two red Royal Guards
I would have been all over that.
:P
-
There's actually some good custom fodder in there, now that I look at it.
Still won't buy it though, unless its marked down.

Inspect?
-
And just like that the only GOOD figure in this set (the Red Royal Guard) gets changed to a Blue Senate Guard - or could this mean that the sets will vary on which figure is included? If so some collectors out there (like myself) will be compelled to by two of this turd. >:(
-

Yeah, for the health department. I don't know exaclty what they made her look for but something to do with the crap, tank, and how it was installed or how far it was away from something. LOL!
-
And just like that the only GOOD figure in this set (the Red Royal Guard) gets changed to a Blue Senate Guard...
Exactly what I was coming in here to mention Peter. I see you're way ahead of me though. Yeah, the one tiny redeeming factor of this set, the VHTF Red Royal Guard, appears to be getting ditched in favor of the far easier Blue Senate Guard now. Bastards.
And they better NOT even think about mixing up those two colors within the various sets... >:(
-
And they better NOT even think about mixing up those two colors within the various sets... >:(
Yeah - Matt - I had you in mind too when I was typing out of disgust the possibility of there being TWO versions of this set with the two different guards. The only redeeming feature is in the packaging itself. If you keep going through the GH pics, you'll see there's a shot of the back of the box and the picture for the Royal Guard clearly shows ONLY the Blue version unlike the picture used for the insert of figure #23 - which has both the Red and Blue versions of the character pictured.
So hopefully I'll only have to get one of this $50 turd - I would like to have a second one just to have the THIRD Silver Vader opened as well as MIB, but that's a tad bit pricey. I'll wait til my local KB has it clearanced down to $10 and then I'll buy it! ;D
-
While I still think the concept is ill-conceived, the set is actually oddly appealing to me personally, since I don't have ANY of those figures yet, except the blue guard, and you can never have too many of him. On the other hand, there are only 2 KBs left in MN and neither is that close to me anyway.
And for your guys' sake, I really hope they don't try the Red/Blue game with these sets, 'cuz that would be just plain ****** in the head, even by Hasbro standards. I honestly can't believe even they would try something like that.
-
Since I have a pretty good KB near me, I promptly took all of the figures in this set that I had on layaway at Wally's and dumped 'em. (Loose collector here)
I think the price point is perfect...save some bucks.
And as far as that Vader goes...I am going to find a used bowling trophy and stick him on top! ;D ;D
-
If by chance anyone happens to give a flying frick about this set, it's available for preorder at KBToys.com (http://www.kbtoys.com/genProduct.html/PID/4177339/ctid/17/INstock/N/D/) and should be on shelves Sept 15.
-
Thanks for the info Jesse..I was impatiently wondering when to seize this set ;)
Red guards vs Blue guards? I don't care... got x4 of each color at retail anyway= I will be just buying one set ;D
-
And they better NOT even think about mixing up those two colors within the various sets... >:(
This would even push me to the dark side. >:(
-
WHAT!!?? I thought you already were a Darth,....Anton? ;D
-
Oh the joy of being a non-completist and loose collector! I can pass on these big time. The silver Vader is not worth it. Probably buy it on ebay for about $20 to $25 and save $25. Actually, I will pass even on the silver Vader, since I do not want it, desire it or care about it. Sorry, just a waste of my money if I bought it!
-
Its pretty much a waste of money all together.
-
And they better NOT even think about mixing up those two colors within the various sets... >:(
Uh oh. Looks like RS found this:

So I wonder if we'll actually see both versions (ie. red guard and blue guard), or if they just decided to change it to a blue guard version only. I don't plan on getting this, but I think Pete and Matt are going to lose their cool. :-\
-
Here's the original version from KBToys.com. I think that the Silver Vader changed to the TRU Exclusive Silver Vader from the OTC line.
-
Since there's a different Vader in each one, one is definately a mock up. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. ::)
-
Since there's a different Vader in each one, one is definately a mock up. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. ::)
The first picture of the set that surfaced at KB.com was just a mock-up: there is no plastic tray (the figures are just posed in the box), Luminara and Dooku are transposed (position does not match the names on the box front), and the back of the box showed a BLUE guard (while a RED guard was used for the photo op).
Don't forget, the set was featured at San Diego Comic-Con:
This picture shows the final packaging (with inner plastic tray), which showed the Blue Guard and re-used TRU Silver Vader, so I am inclined to believe that is the final product (and at the show, Hasbro said it was the final product).
I was glad to see this picture from Comic Con because it meant that the set was ALL repacks - the Silver Vader is NOT a new one, it is just a re-release of the TRU Silver Vader.
Jeff
-
Thanks Jeff- I saw this at the show too but alas, I couldn't remember.

Yeah, same here. :P

Even if it is a pegwarmers set, I am still getting one.
-
I'm getting one too...
...when it goes on clearance or a buy one get 3 free sale, like all KB exclusives
-
Just bumping to inform you all that this set is on sale for only $40 at KBToys.com (http://www.kbtoys.com/genProduct.html/PID/4177339/ctid/17/INstock/Y/D/)...
-
I'm actually glad that the silver Vader is a repack...one less exclusive to track down.
-
I saw about 12 of these at my Springfield, VA KB Toys yesterday. Not interesting and apparently not very interesting to other collectors. Should be warming the pegs for a while before it goes on sale.

I'd completely brainfarted on this, and even though I finally found one of these sets last week, was still anticipating having to get a second set just for the Silver Vader opener. REALLY glad that's not the case now. For once, I'm ecstatic to see a repack, as it's just saved me $43 by not having to buy a second set to open. So kudos to Hasbro and/or KB for not royally screwing the collectors in that respect. Still wish it'd been the more elusive Red Royal Guard in there, but oh well. Just glad to have this set out of the way, and only have to get one of them at that... 8)
