Title: JediDefender Battlefront/Commando Clan
Post by: Angry Ewok on August 22, 2004, 08:57 PM
Okay I've been putting a bit of thought into the JediDefender clan and decided that we need to kick things in gear and start working on naming the clan and setting up our command structure up before the games go gold.

Membership Requirements :
The JD clan will be open to everyone in JediDefender and also anyone else that we meet along the way in-game. The only requirement is that you must have one of the games and you must be a registered member at the JediDefender forums.

Which game to buy :
The JD clan is open to people who play either Battlefront and/or Commando! We'll probably have members of the clan playing in both games, and people who play one game but not the other - but that's not a problem, we'll just need to nominate one leader and one co-leader in each game/console. So wether or not you play Battlefront or Commando - you can still be a member.

Which one should you buy? Well, Battlefront seems to be a better multi-player game at the moment, but Commando isn't looking too shabby either. I'll probably end up getting Commando because I prefer smaller scaled squad-based games. Battlefront looks to be a more epic-proportioned game - which is fine - unless you a 56k/laptop like me.  :P

How the Clan will be structured :
I suggest we go with a military ranking structure particular to whatever side we choose to represent (Empire or Alliance). I also suggest that the players' ranks be determined by both the members' playtime and the members' skill in-game.

Nominating Leaders :
Once we are certain who all will be playing, we will be able to nominate and elect one leader and one co-leader to represent the clan in each game. If we're a large enough group we'll probably expand our ranks to include a Clan staff - but I doubt we'll have those kinds of numbers necesarry. Right now it looks like we'll have a platoon-size or smaller group playing each game.

Naming the Clan :
Naming the clan is the fun part. Everybody go ahead and suggest some names for both the Alliance and the Empire - and eventually we will decide on which affiliation and which name we'll all go by. When we all (or at least a majority) agree on a name and an abbreviated tag (to wear in-game), we will all wear the tag and we'll have ourselves an official clan.

Example of an in-game abbreviated tag -

[TAG]Gen.ChrisBerry

Fill out this application please!

This will help me organize things, so answer to the best of your ability - if you've got any questions or suggestions just PM me or send me a shout through either AIM (AnAngryEwok) or Yahoo Messenger (WhiteCrowMVP) or MSN (AnAngryEwok@Hotmail.com).

Here is our roster as it stands!

PC - Battlefront
AngryEwok
BobaShek
Tydirium as Jareedo
Vator

PS2 - Battlefront
Bobafett14
HungSolow
LandoTheScoundrel

X-Box - Battlefront

450th Volunteer Division, [450thVol]
Alliance 1st Reconnaissance Division, [A/1R]

Which game you'll be buying : Uncertain

The name you plan to go by in-game : AngryEwok

Which side you'd like to play for : Alliance - but I don't care, really.

Suggest an Alliance clan name :
Alliance 1st Reconnaissance Division, [A/1R]
The 1st Reconnaissance Division is based aboard the Alliance flagship HomeOne. The unit’s operational responsibility is the thorough reconnaissance of remote planets and moons prospect to Alliance settlement.

Suggest an Empire clan name :
450th Volunteer Division, [450thVol]
In response to Lucas' deciding that Stormtroopers are clones, I decided a Volunteer based Division would be nice to set things straight - not all Stormies are clones, damnit! The 450th Volunteer Division is an attatchment of the flagship ‘Surveyor’s Air Mobilized Infantry. Despite being part of the Air Mobile, the Volunteer Division’s duties usually consist of simple-minded traffic control or at most door-to-door searches and artillery deployment and supply shipment escorting.

Which game you'll be buying : Battlefront for sure, Possibly Commando

The name you plan to go by in-game : DiddlySquat

Which side you'd like to play for : Empire, though I don't really care.

Suggest an Alliance clan name :
Defenders of the Jedi [DotJ]
We come from JediDefender.com.... do I need a better explination? :P

Suggest an Empire clan name :
Berry's Sith Lords [BSL]
Just an evil version of the forum members that we are. :P

Which game buying?  Battlefront for PS2
Name plan to go by?  Bobafett14
Side to play for?  either, prob empire not real important
Clan name?  I would prob suggest having something with jedidefender in it.
Good for advertising, letting people know who you are with online, also can be bad letting people know who you are online ;^)

Something simple like:
Jedidefenders1(for alliance)  TAG (JD1)
Jedidefenders2(for empire)   TAG (JD2)

I TOTALLY agree with Diddly Squat!
If you go with something other than along the lines of jedidefender you sort of lose your identity don't you? (hey why not let people know who you are)

As far as leaders, I'm brand spankin new to the whole online gaming thing(just got my PS2 online stuff this week, been palying SOCOM mostly to get preparred for Battlefront.) so this time I'll be a follower and not a leader ;^)

so Keep me in the loop, any help/tutorials is greatly appreciated here.

As far as playtime I'll be able to play mostly Fri-Sun. for sure, Mon and Thurs eve. possibly. (depends on my travel schedule for work)  once game is up and running I'm guessing people should be posting thier "playtimes" as well.

Which game you'll be buying : Battlefront, maybe. Depends if I can get a cheap PS2 somewhere, or is there a PC version?

The name you plan to go by in-game : Vator

Which side you'd like to play for : The Galactic Empire, no question

Suggest an Alliance clan name : Hedidefendaire Grenadiers (HG) (No EU or cannon background except the Alliance employed militias.)

Suggest an Empire clan name : Iron Heels (IH) (Could mean anything from Walkers to the Iron rule of the Empire)

Both games will be for PC, from what I've seen thus far.

Keep the ideas rolling, guys - I like the idea of being relative to Jedi Defender, though I don't want to be a 'Jedi' based group... The idea of naming ourselves grenadiers is pretty cool, although it'd better fit the Empire I think...

Good ideas so far.  ;)

It would just be a name, wouldn't have to be jedi based.

My thought being is that if there are 100 people playing on "rebelscum" clans.  You'd be seeing rebelscum all over the place right?  or "Galactic defenders", etc.

Same thing here.  If people logged on and saw JD or jedidefender it'd be the same.

I'd think of it as entirely FREE advertising.   If you called it the "galacticbombadiers" or something that could be any of 100 groups out there.  No connaction to the site whatsoever.

Anyhow, just my .02.

I'm gonna be logged in under bobafett14, that way people will see me on the game, so people will know who I am.   and also anyone who doesn't like me ... now gets the chance to take me out with a sniper rifle ;^)

I'm horrible with names so there won't be too much contribution from me there. Though I do think an emphasis on the "Defender" part of Jedi Defender might be a start at something. I dunno.

Which game you'll be buying : Battlefront (PC) RepCom (PC)

The name you plan to go by in-game : Jareedo

Which side you'd like to play for : Alliance prefferred

If some of us have the game on PS2, and half have it on PC, then we won't be able to play together, right? So wouldn't there need to be a JediDefender clan for both systems?

Personally, I think the clan should be named JediDefender, or even [drumroll] JediDefender.COM!

I can't find any mention of cross-platform online play. It's possible on PS2 and PC, but Xbox Live is locked down. I'm guessing no.

We need to pick a system if this is going to happen...

The same applies for what system you choose to play with, but if you all have a PC that can handle it - the PC will be the best buy. So, if you are debating on getting it for PS2/XBox or PC, definately choose the PC. There are alot of customizing options that you can play around with where you couldn't if you had the PS2. Example - custom maps, custom skins (uniforms, faces). This will give the game a much longer life, trust me. There are tons of reasons why you should choose the PC, to me that's the main one - longer play-life.

I'll suggest another name, this one is sort of an homage to the Call of Duty clan I play in. How about 'The Raiders' for a clan name? It'd match whatever game you play and whatever team you choose to play with - Imperials, Republics, Rebels, and Confederates can all have a 'Raider' group...

Our tag could be [R1/#] (Raiders 1st Battalion, # Company)

Company designation would go like this - if you play Battlefront, you're in 1st/Able Company, [R1/1], if you play Republic Commando, you're in 2nd/Bravo Company, [R1/2].

Just trying to squeeze out some suggestions.  :-\

I'm still not sure what to do thus far. I am going to wait till the system requirements are out. I want to make sure my PC is up to par. Hate to buy a game & shell out more $$$ to make it run properly.

I also have to reformat my PC, I have way to much junk in it & my memory is well... :-\

Well, I've got a PS2 and an X-Box, and my PC is probably too slow to run this game properly. Since a new PC isn't exactly on the horizon right now, and a bunch of my buddies are buying this for PS2, I think I'll just go that route.

Let me know if any of you are going the PS2 route.

Just a note for you PC guys thinking about this over a console...  There's gonna be a LOT of action in this game which means a lotta burden on your machine's performance.

If you're thinking PC i think you'll need something beefy, what with all the players and stuff.

I don't know if I'm buying or not.  I'm debating still.  I think I may go with X-Box because, at this point, my PC is showing age...  I need a new graphic card, and it seems Windows 98 just ain't cutting it anymore as an OS.  Fortunately upgrades are rare to truly keep up with modern gaming, but I'm at the point I likely need to, just to even get a game loaded on my PC.

I'm pretty nervous about my laptop being able to hold it. I'm pretty sure Battlefront will be too much for it, but Commando is more straightforward (without any vehicles, etc) so I'll have better luck there.  :-\

Have my PS2 version pre-ordered.  Also posted some cheap options if you haven't hooked up online.

TRU had some deals on the knock-off adapter ($29.99) and headset($15 after half off clearance deals)

I totally suck at SOCOM.  I'm lucky if I play all night and get a kill.

The whole reason I bought SOCOM in the first place a few weeks ago was to just get the PS2 online hooked up, make sure the system works, and get some practice in, even if it's not the same game ;^)

I'm going to make a new thread for PS2, so those that will be playing on that system can touch base and maybe join forces. It might be a good idea for those going either the X-Box or PC route to do the same.

I've been checking out the Xbox demo that is on the 4th disc of the DVD, and I'm 99% sure I want to go with the PC version.

The controls on the Xbox version are Halo style, with no option to adjust lookspring or analog stick speed (unless they've changed this before release). I'm going nuts with the sluggy look control as it is. Since the camera system is so mouse-driven (like an FPS) I want the PC version which should have mouselook speed control.

Game is fun, otherwise. It's going to be a good run and gun shooter and fun to play with others. I'm just thinking the PC will offer the best experience right now. So for now, PC for me.

Everyone check out the very first post to see if I got the roster right, it looks like so far everyone is probably going to play Battlefront.

Let's get a name before this goes gold, so we can nominate some leaders and assemble teams.

I'll send my vote to calling ourselves something in the way of the Defenders, Infantry, Raiders, Recons, or Volunteers - with a number designation (ie 21st Infantry Div., or 1st Recon Bat., etc).

I'm against calling ourselves anything "Jedi" though.  :-\

We'll narrow it down to a couple of names and then we'll vote on it - majority wins.  ;)

Once we know for sure who is playing what, the leaders will be nominated.

At this point, here's my deal on this...

I have an X-Box, so if I get it, it's likely for the X-Box as my PC (while nice) is a Win 98 machine and I'm finding games are now going to NOT running on an OS this old.  I'm not one for upgrading unless I get a SECOND computer to run my old games on.  CorranHorn mentioned that option to me, and while obvious, it had never even dawned upon me.

So, at this stage of the proverbial game, I'm an X-Boxer, but, I'm sad to see the MAJORITY of you are playing PS2 or PC, so if I'm doing this on PC I'll be a later arrival...  Till I can figure what the hell I'm doing here.

I'm not an MP gamer fan, so I'd be doing this just to participate.  I don't even have X-Box Live, so actually I doubt I even get this for X-Box.  Plus PC's gonna have mods for this, you know it, and they're going ot make owning the PC version 10x better anyway...  So, PC's what I'm aiming for, but sometime down the road.  X-Box is unlikely for me right now because I'm not paying for XB Live till I have $.

I'm telling you guys - get it for PC if you can! PC = custom maps, custom skins, modded servers, etc., etc.

If it means you gotta wait awhile, that's fine - it'll be worth it.

On the name front, can I suggest something a bit out of line of how the naming has been proceeding? How about we pick an easy operating name to start, like JD/COM, and finalize a once we all start playing?

The reason I suggest this is when we really get playing and find what our play styles, strategies, and favorite parts of the game are, we'll probably realize a clan name that is a natural fit in the Battlefront context.

All set for the PC game next Tuesday here.

Jesse, have you considered doing a dual-boot system so you can have XP and 98 on the same machine?

Hopefully my laptop can run this thing - if not, I'll be up the creek without a refund.

I got my copy on the 21st, but I haven't had the time to fully explore everything it has to offer. Plus, it runs rather crappily (is that even a word?) on my computer. I might have to install it on my family computer, as it's heaps better than my own.

From what I've played, it's damn good. :)

I'm on as bobafett14 (pretty creative huh?)

Some tips(mine anyhow, as I'm sure everyone has thier own):

My fav character is the jetpack Trooper, has a missle launcher and grenades.

Vehicles are a must-you can rack up 30-40+ kills a game easy in the larger vehicles.  Much harder to do as a single trooper.  Also the jetpack trooper helps here becuse if you start a game and 10 others spawn with you, you can fly over them and get to a nearby vehicle quickly.

Get to know the spawn points-I just jumped into an AAT on Tatooine, sat in front of a spawn point and racked up like 42 kills in about 2 min.  Not a lot of fun (and I'm sure they'll have to change this-I was on the opposite side where I tried to spawn and was killed everytime by those camping out-litereally got killed like 10 times without taking a step, and never got to play

X-Wing/Tie/starfighter are kinda difficult to control and honestly to me(while fun to fly) aren't worth getting into especially with the cramped quaters in a very small playfield.

Droidekas are REALLY fun to roll around in, and hard to kill, grenades seem to disable the shields.

Right now I;m having lots of fun on the higher rooftops, setting the sights to first person and sniping, lots haven't caught on yet that they also need to look up ;^) easy way to rack up some points.

See Vader, or Luke or Mace.....just pull a monty python and   RUN AWAY!

FAV planets: Hoth and the kashhyyk Docks-I like the wide openess.  Least Fav-Rhenn Var temple-tight quarters too tight for as many people that are crammed in there battleing.

I actually have thought of that (didn't know its official "title" though Jared, so thanks!).  CorranHorn and I discussed it...  In the end I wonder if I'm just not better off running 2 PC's separately though.  I mean, should I buy a new one I can't imagine where this one would wind up...  It's obsolete by most standards I assume, short of my burner I just got.

It's not bad...  P IV 1.8 gig, smallish harddrive (19 gig), lotsa RAM though bought as a gift...  Sorta crap graphics card, but I could get a better one (not top of the line) cheap enough that'd run all my "old" games flawlessly and install simply enough.  That kinda stuff makes me wonder if someday just buying a new PC and keeping this mamojama running beside it wouldn't be the route.

Then again running two OS's would minimize space taken up by 2 PC's, which is a huge concern to me given the craptacular cramptness of my living quarters. :)

This sounds terrible... like Quake... run around spawn-fragging. I wish I knew someone who'd let me borrow their copy so I didnt risk wasting $50 on a run-n-gun fragfest. Eek.

There's got to be a tactical realism organization in Battlefront - their servers will be much better - if they exist.

I know it gets tough, but I'll be home a good bit around the holidays-off most of Thanksgiving week, X-mas week and a lot of 3 day weekends off Fri-Sun.)

other than that late evenings(9-midnight) work best for me.  The "homemade" servers don;t seem to work too great for me-I usually stick to just the plain "Movie-022" type servers. Best would be to prob. email with a time, check email at that time, and pick a server that isn't full or near full.

By the way, I haven't posted for a while on Battlefronts mostly becasue I wanted to see them work out a few kinks.  I was having some lag problems (and I have a cable modem!) so now it seems to be running much smoother.

Looks like another  PS2 patch is due any day now, and everything has been pretty good lately.
