Why is the first order TIE shooting at the stormtroopers?

Part of the trailer...  They even got my favorite new background guy, Stormtrooper flying through the air.

I can't imagine the bitching about the box's condition for it.  >:D

Regarding the box though it'll be no bigger than BMF right?  If it breaks down that is.  I mentioned it on twitter but TIE's are deceptively big (always said it about the 4" TIE's too) that they're mostly air when you think about it.

Could see wings popping off and it fitting in a pretty thin box.

Alright, anyone seriously considering plunking down $185 or so with tax for this?!

I don't even know where I'd be able to put it if I did think the price was reasonable...

Look at the size of that thing!

Someone had to say it.

It's really impressive to look at.  And I appreciate that Hasbro is trying to keep the vehicle tradition going in the 6" figure scale.  As for how this thing will get rolled out to retail, I imagine the wings are going to have to come off.  Otherwise it's going to take up an enormous amount of shelf space at retail.  And the pilot is being offered exclusively as a pack-in figure?   Aaaarrggghhh

I'd drop the cash in a heartbeat.  Although I have your same concern.  Where the heck would I put this?

As a result, I'm really unsure if I'm going to get this thing.

I'd much rather have a landspeeder than one of these, just because of the massive size.

I am not a 6" collector, however...  If I were, I would want one of these.  Would I drop that kind of coin on it though?  Well, I have a few thoughts on that.

First, I paid $159.99 for an Acid Rain toy and will be doing so again shortly when the other deco (of the same toy) is back in stock.  So, am I willing to pay that much?  Obviously I'm in that ballpark.

However, I have to REALLY like the toy.  That said, I say if I were a 6" collector I think I'd consider it.  However as a mass release toy, I'd also be tempted to play the waiting game because I always felt whatever it's real value is will be determined by the masses.  If you want it bad enough, and want to pay full price, I think you should.  People did with the BMF, the AT-TE...  I got my BMF for under $60 though, and I got only one full priced AT-TE.  Any other BM ship I got was WAY discounted though.  I believe under $30 for my MTT and Turbo Tank (God, that name), and I think damn near $10 on that Republic shuttle.  I mean, that thing was basement price.  I also got 2 AT-TE's for $50 or less.  I'd have bought more if I could've found them.

Of all those, I only truly wanted the AT-TE and even I was like, "meh, I want more of them but I'm cheap so I'll see how tihs goes".  So the Acid Rain comparison is difficult I guess, is what I'm saying, but it says "yes I will spend a lot if I like something enough".

What would I personally do with that TIE?  I'd go hanging from the ceiling.  Just my take.  I have 1/18 warplanes on the ceiling, and they're massive.  I mean, you'd be amazed how close my Avenger is to that TIE, I guarantee it.  Speaking of wingspan at least.  And I'd dare say the fuselage is a hell of a lot more plastic than the cockpit of that TIE.  And that's one of at least 8 hanging in half my collection room.  So I can see something like that I guess.

I think the 1/6 TIE Sideshow may or may not be selling (I couldn't tell by the news) is absolute insanity though.  I mean, Hasbro compromised on theirs some.  Sideshow, didn't.  Not a slight, just a fact.  That's insane.  Hell, that Falcon cockpit is 0 compromising on scale, and it's HUGE.  Just huge.  Those things are absurd, and I'm honestly debating that Falcon and a Han/Chewie for it now.   :-[  I wasn't gonna get Han/Chewie, till that cockpit got shown.  Now...  well, I need another car though, so who knows?

I'm wondering what the packaging will look like on this.  I really want to see how they go about it.  I can only imagine the ship will be broken down, at least somewhat.  It may not make a nice presentation that way though.

Maybe it'll be under produced or more likely under distributed. I could see Target/TRU/etc. being super wary of buying these in quantity.

I'll admit that it does look pretty cool, and I have been collecting the OT 6" stuff so far and planned to pick up the Force Awakens as well.  But the price (and space it will take up) might keep me away.  It really depends on what the rest of the line looks like, and we just don't know at this point.  If there is little to nothing out for 3 3/4" (or it isn't something I'm interested) I might be able to justify this.  But again, there's the space issue.  Looks cool though.  I kind of dig the designs from this movie that we've seen so far.

I could see Target/TRU/etc. being super wary of buying these in quantity.

I was wondering about that over the weekend - depending on the size of the box, I can't imagine more than 1-2 of these at a store.  Especially if the rumors of other large vehicles (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/The_Force_Awakens_Lines_Appear_In_Toys_R_Us_Computer_164214.asp) for Ep7 (SW7 3.75 Hero Vehicle 129.99; SW7 3.75 Class III Vehicle 49.99; SW7 Villian Starfighter w/Pilot 49.99; SW7 Millenium Falcon 119.99) turn out to be true.  Could be a lot of big things to choose from when the Fall gets here.

I'm definitely interested in buying one, but I need to decide whether or not I'm collecting TFA stuff first. I feel like this is something we would need to support if we ever want any OT vehicles like this (although I'd rather have smaller stuff like a Skiff, Landspeeder or Dewback)

Special Forces TIE Fighter Limited on Force Friday (http://yakfaceforums.com/main/2015/07/15/special-forces-tie-fighter-limited-on-force-friday/)?

So is that an effort to help motivate people to buy NOW versus waiting for a sale/clearance if there is a chance it'll be limited at the start?

Seems like an effort to make me keep it in the box for 3 months so it can be easily returned if/when these get price-reduced or hit clearance.  ;)

Oh wait, they DIDN'T do that.  ::)

Found one at the Clovis, California Toys R Us this afternoon ;D  Price was $169.99 + tax.  With California's high sales tax, it came out to a little over $183.  For those of you looking for this item, the item barcode is: 3050941288.  The SKU #, per my receipt is, 285603.

Overall, this thing is massive, highly detailed, and way cool.  I've included a number of photos and review below.

Boxed Item (Front)
(http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h247/tmanthegreat/IMG_2626_zpsx23izzpj.jpg) (http://s66.photobucket.com/user/tmanthegreat/media/IMG_2626_zpsx23izzpj.jpg.html)

Boxed Item (Rear)
(http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h247/tmanthegreat/IMG_2627_zpsztn61sce.jpg) (http://s66.photobucket.com/user/tmanthegreat/media/IMG_2627_zpsztn61sce.jpg.html)

Box/Item Barcode

Box Contents

Overall, not that many parts and assembly is a breeze with just snapping in the wings and inserting the antennas, hatch, and guns.  It should come apart pretty easily as well, meaning that if I get tired of it, I can put it back in the box.

Once assembled, this thing is gigantic!  You can see the 6" pilot figure for scale.  In the background, you can see how this compares to 1:18 scale and 1:6 scale items.  That's the 21st Century Toys 1:6 scale radio controlled M-5 Stuart tank in the background, being dwarfed by the TIE Fighter :o  Its a little wobbly when sitting on the wings, but is overall rather sturdy and does not seem to have used as rubbery of plastic as on the smaller Class III vehicles.  I can see some bending occurring with the wings the longer the item sits on them, though, which means you may want to hang it.  This will definitely look spectacular in hanging in flight!  The paint detailing is good and they even added some weathering.

The interior is my favorite part of the model.  Probably one of the most detailed cockpits we've ever gotten on a Star Wars toy.  Lots of controls, levers, buttons, screens are intricately detailed and painted.

Cockpit Overhead View

Pilot's Station Interior Details
(http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h247/tmanthegreat/IMG_2635_zpsnbkqtpw2.jpg) (http://s66.photobucket.com/user/tmanthegreat/media/IMG_2635_zpsnbkqtpw2.jpg.html)

Gunner's Station Interior Details

The figure itself is pretty decent.  I like the red markings on the helmet.  It comes with a sidearm, but no holster to attach it.  I hope Hasbro eventually releases a single-boxed version of the TFA TIE Pilot so I can have the ship properly crewed.  But for now, the OT TIE Pilot will work well enough as the gunner

(http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h247/tmanthegreat/IMG_2642_zpsozvfacyd.jpg) (http://s66.photobucket.com/user/tmanthegreat/media/IMG_2642_zpsozvfacyd.jpg.html)

Its a little tricky getting the pilot figure into his seat, if anything due to its utility belt.  The headrest is removable (or at least I was able to easily remove it) making placement of the figure easier.  Would have been nice if the whole seat apparatus lifted out to put the figure on it, like on the recent 3 3/4" scale TIE Interceptor and TIE Bomber.  It was a little easier to get the figure into the gunner's station.

Pilot in seat (minus headrest part)

Fully crewed ship using an OT TIE Pilot figure
(http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h247/tmanthegreat/IMG_2648_zpsawvilvsq.jpg) (http://s66.photobucket.com/user/tmanthegreat/media/IMG_2648_zpsawvilvsq.jpg.html)

Overall, I'm very, very pleased with the Black Series 6" scale First Order Elite TIE Fighter.  Its simply an incredible ship and its awesome to see a Star Wars vehicle replicated on such large scale.  Its proof to me that Hasbro will still take on "big ticket" items, but it also has me thinking about future vehicles in the 6" scale...  I have a good feeling we may see a TFA X-Wing sometime down the road as after all the TIE needs an adversary.  Then what about other ships?  If they did the TFA TIE Fighter, why not an OT TIE Fighter or X-Wing?  Heck, the A-Wing, Snowspeeder, Luke's Landspeeder, TIE Interceptor are all "small" enough to be feasible in the 6" scale now - even some of the slightly larger ships like the Y-Wing and B-Wing.  Lots of possibilities.

Still, if you have the cash to get this ship, don't miss out!

Thanks for posting.  I really like the comparison shot with the 3 3/4" ship to see just how big it is.

I'm still really torn on this item.  I like the concept of big ships, but this seems too big to manage without hanging it from the ceiling someplace.

I think I would have much preferred to see a Landspeeder in this scale first.

Kudos to Hasbro, but I'm still in a wait and see mode with this one.

Thanks guys and not a problem on posting a detailed product review.  That's what these forums are for :) I'm still getting used to the size of the thing, taking up about 3 square feet of my study's floor space. I may eventually hang it, but it will need to be from a secure attachment, not just an eye-hook screwed into the drywall.  The box shows the TIE is the first in what is likely going to be a series of TFA vehicles for the 6" figures, so my interest is piqued now about what else will be revealed in the coming months...  This could get really interesting!

Curious to know if anyone other tmanthegreat, myself and I believe one other person who posted they bought one on jd, have picked this up? Wondering what the likelihood we get #2 in the series is.

I picked this up on Monday at my local TRU (I had 20 dollars in Rewards dollars and a 10 dollar gift card, so it took some of the sticker shock away), and I'm pretty happy with it.  It's definitely large and impressive, to say the least, and I don't regret buying it at all.  I really can't add more to the reviews that tmanthegreat's, well, great photographs have already shown other than to say the cockpit is really the highlight of the ship.  Hasbro went above and beyond with the details inside the cockpit and didn't cut any corners there.

The wings themselves are sturdy, although I'm a little concerned about the fact that the "tires" don't sit flush against the wings themselves (there's a tiny gap on mine; is it like this on everyone's?).  The wings are also "permanently" attached, but only do so with two clips inside the "tires" on the pylons from the cockpit/ball assembly, so it still makes the wings a bit wobbly, although when it's standing up (especially on carpet), this doesn't really affect the stability much.  As for taking up space, I have Queen Amidala's Royal Starship sitting in the (carpeted) floor of my collection room and the TIE straddles it perfectly with just enough clearance to not hit the RS's roof, so it took up less floor space than I feared. :)

The trickiest part of the whole assembly is getting the TIE Pilot into the cockpit.  You have to basically bend his knees completely backward (at both double joints like this < ) with his feet still pointing forward so he will fit well.  It also helps if you raise his arms while doing so and adjust them last.  Make sure you clip the waist clip above the belt since his pouches get in the way otherwise.  I also can't find a space to store his blaster pistol inside the ship, so you'll probably want to keep that somewhere else separately.

Overall, despite some minor quibbles, it's an impressive piece, and well worth picking up.  I hope the wave with the single packed TIE Pilot shows up in decent numbers at retail so I can find an extra gunner to stick in the co-pilot seat.

Since finding the one I bought, I've not seen anymore at the two Toys R Us stores in my immediate area.  When I purchased it, there was only the one there, meaning that was the one they put out or people had already snagged the others.  A friend of mine in Pennsylvania told me yesterday his local TRU has three of them, so obviously they are getting distribution.  I would suspect each store would get 4-6 of them.  However, its hard to say how rare or common the TIEs will turn out to be.  If they're not out all over just yet, I suspect we'll see more as the movie - and holiday season - approach.  And I really hope to see more full-sized ships and vehicles in the 6" line.  The "01" on the TIE fighter's box had better not stand for the "one and only" full-size ship ever made in that scale!

That's a pretty sweet deal!  Getting that TIE for $127 and change takes a lot of the sting out.

TRU currently has that 20% off deal, but it only applies to the 3.75" scale figures and vehicles.  Still, if you want to get the new Millennium Falcon that 20% off deal will help there.

This thing is huge!  It took me a long time trying to decide to spend the money when I found it at TRU, but I don't regret it for a second.  I love that the cockpit can actually hold 2 figures.

Great photo, Jesse.  Still, I don't know if that even does it justice.  I was just at the launch of ThinkGeek's (http://www.thinkgeek.com) new brick & mortar location, and they had the 6" scale TIE Fighter on display.  OMG, is it big!  It looked like the solar panel wings were actually bending somewhat because of the weight of the vehicle.  And considering TODAY was the launch day for this store, that TIE Fighter couldn't have been on display for all that long.  I have to wonder how those wings are going to hold up in the long run.

Saw the box today at Target, pretty impressive. Makes me wonder how big the Hot Toys Tie Fighter box will be.

Hang it from the ceiling.  That's what I told my buddy to do. :)  If I were buying 6", I'd be all over that.  It's actually nicely done, and miles superior to the 4" one they did.  That thing is sad.  :-\

You'd still have to hang it in a corner or something.  I'm tempted by this thing, but I'd have to duck every time I walk under it.  Maybe when it goes on clearance...

I saw this Yakface FB post (https://www.facebook.com/yakfacecom/photos/a.206623771798.129287.202559486798/10153436193916799/?type=3&theater) about the 6" scale Special Forces TIE Fighter being on sale at Target stores for $49.09.  Has anyone here been able to get that deal?  I hope it's a widespread sale, and reports from numerous stores would certainly be encouraging.

There is no sign of that sale anywhere around here. And I have been looking everywhere  >:(

I wish they would honor their other stores' clearance sales.

There is one lone TIE at my local Target and it continues to scan at $169.99. No way I'm paying that much, but if I could get it for $50, I'm definitely going to buy it...

So I'm wondering how this thing has done overall. To be honest, Target seems to be the only store here carrying it, and our store has been sitting on the same two for awhile now. I'll admit I was tempted when Amazon had the price drop, but things were too tight with Christmas. I keep checking/hoping for a clearance, but nothing yet.

This will be 40% off on Amazon starting at 6pm as a May 4th Lightning Deal. Not sure what time zone that is.

It's been priced at $98 and change for the past day or so.  If THAT price gets discounted by 40% it would be an amazing deal.

Down to $75 today.

If it hits $60, I'm in just for the hell of it.

Has anyone got the Target DCPI number for the First Order TIE?  I'm in the market for one on clearance, but I'd like to be able to be able to focus my efforts using Brickseek.

Thanks!  I was surprised to find that it's now as low as $50.98 at some stores.

Some people seem to think it will go lower than that even, but I don't know...70% off is as low as a lot of items there ever get. I am definitely getting at least one when they hit $50 here.

I think that once it hits that $50-ish threshold there are going to be a lot of buyers.  I'm certainly going to be looking.

Well, it's been awhile, but this bad boy has popped up yet again, just in time for the holidays. I spied one today @ Ross for $69.99.

Not low enough to tempt me into a second, but kinda cool to see that huge box on the shelves again.  :P

I saw this again today at Tuesday Morning, also for $69.99 but they are having a 20% off sale ending today which cuts it down to around $56 plus tax. If anyone cares...

Not sure I need to get another one of these, lol.  Mine is temporarily stored in my garage as I needed to clear some space on my office floor after it sat there for over a year and a half.  It’s funny as I’ve had some neighbors passing by comment about how cool it looks...  That said, I think Hasbro may have been pushing the envelope with the 6” scale FO TIE Fighter given its sheer size.  Notice for TLJ we got a couple significantly smaller vehicles and not a 6” scale X-Wing or A-Wing to go with the TIE.  but I think the thing that bugs me the most about it that the wings cannot be easily detached from the cockpit pod, making the ship very difficult to disassemble and return to its box.
