The Black Series 3.75" / Re: The Black Series 3.75" - Wave 6

Nice little wave.  R5-G19 is a little bit of a mystery.  At first I was thinking this was one of the droids from the ROTJ briefing room scene on Home One, but I'm not certain.

Yes, from Home One

Yeah, found it:

To me, it looks like a manageable year. I've been trying to be a little more cost conscious about things, and this line looks like Hasbro recognizes some of the strain the economy has put on their customers. The figure line isn't exhaustive, but there are some really cool choices in there. The vehicle line doesn't look completely rehashed. And the the 6" figure line is going in an interesting direction with things like the speeder bike and Jabba.

However, the lack of exclusives?  That seems telling.

Who better to steal from when it comes to designs than the late, great Ralph McQuarrie?

Great photos, Jeff!  And thanks for making the trip to our frozen neck of the woods.  Even with all of the snow here, NYC is probably pretty mild compared to the cold you guys have been braving in Minnesota.

I saw a couple of the new Funko figures yesterday at a Barnes & Noble store of all places. They had a fairly sizable display stand near the front of the store that had photos of each of the 6 figures in this first wave. I would've liked to have gotten Ned Stark, but no luck there. They only had Jon Snow and Danaerys Targaryen. Both looked ok in person, although Jon's beard looks a bit scraggly.

They're tagged at $19.99 each, which seems to be the going rate for 6" figures these days. I'm just wondering what other retailers might be picking up the line.

Nice look at the development of the series.  Freddie Prinze Jr is something of an unexpected bit of casting, but the character looks cool.  It's funny though, because Freddie's voice reminds me somewhat of the voice actor who played Anakin Skywalker in Clone Wars, Matt Lanter.

As for the character of Kanan?  He reminds me slightly of the central character from the Dark Times comic series, Dass Jennir.  But with Jedi being on the run from the Empire, I would think there's the potential for some recurring themes when it comes to former Jedi characters.  Still, he appears like he might be a little young given when REBELS is supposed to take place.  Was he a padawan when Order 66 was issued?  And it also seems clear that at some point he's going to have a lightsaber duel with the Inquisitor.  I'm hoping those scenes will be cool, but shouldn't scenes like that be few and far between?

Definitely sticking with Agents of SHIELD.  It took a while for things to get rolling but the show seems to have some turned a corner.  Especially after Coulson's interrogation.  But the air schedule seems a little puzzling.  Are they taking this week off because they don't want to compete with the Olympics?

There's now a listing for wave 2 in the 3.75" figure line.  Here's the wave lineup, with the new figures in this wave IN BOLD:

2x Super Soldier Captain America
2x WWII Captain America
1x Winter Soldier
1x Red Skull
3x Shield Blitz Captain America
3x Rocket Storm Falcon

Also listed now are the second wave of Captain America Legends 6" figures.

3x Captain America
1x Black Widow
2x Winter Soldier

1x Red Skull (Agents of H.Y.D.R.A.)
1x Baron Zemo (Soldiers of A.I.M.)

I had no idea these were even coming out.  I'm definitely looking forward to seeing some more of them.  But the whole action figure segment seems a little weak right now, and I have serious concerns if even this line is going to perform well.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: The Avengers (and sequels)

It's an interesting development.  J.A.R.V.I.S as an AI has been characterized as fairly powerful.  Paul Bettany seems like he could step into the role of the Vision pretty well.

As for who actually develops Ultron?  I think there are plenty of possibilities out there for how that might develop.  Stark's tech hasn't been completely secure over the history of the Iron Man movies, or the Avengers.  Stane got a hold of Stark's Mk 1 plans in the first Iron Man.  Justin Hammer weaponized the Mk 2 armor, turning it into War Machine.  Also, Vanko managed to hack that armor in addition to the creation of the Hammer Drones and his own Whiplash armor.  Stark hacked SHIELDs computers in AVENGERS.  One would think that it might also be possible for SHIELD to hack the Mk 6 armor when it was on the helicarrier.  And in Iron Man 3 AIM managed to hack the Iron Patriot armor.  Add all that up and Tony's armor has been somewhat less than secure.

But I think that some of what we saw in Iron Man 3 may be at the root of the Ultron creation story.  After Tony works on the implants that allow him to summon the Mk 42 armor remotely, we see a scene where Mk 42 is assembled and has independently made it's way to Tony as he's sleeping.  Perhaps what's next is that a new suit beyond Mk 42 becomes self aware, leading to Ultron.

I had heard recently that he had been dealing with heroin addiction.  Sad news indeed.

You and everyone else 'heard' that, it was widely reported - common knowledge.

Thanks for the comment, Rob.  Perhaps I should consult Google News stats about a particular topic before I make a post regarding the tragic passing of a famous person, and how their condition had already been well documented in the news?

Scored a Mara Jade today during my search for Darth Plagueis.  And that's the last of TBS wave 2 for me.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: X-Men/Wolverine Movies

It seems to me that the screenwriters wanted to inject some sort of jeopardy into the mix for Wolverine.  Between his healing factor and the adamantium laced skeleton,  Logan is almost impossible to kill.  So what to do?  Take away his claws and put the character in some serious danger.  That doesn't jibe with the comics, but I think the producers of the Marvel movies have made it abundantly clear that they're prepared to take some license with the characters in an effort to produce what they think is an entertaining film.
