Title: Hasbro Force FX Lightsabers
Post by: I Am Sith on January 11, 2008, 12:28 AM
So from the main page, Hasbro will be taking over this line in 2008... Do we need to rename this thread or should we start a new one?  Doesn't look like we will be getting anything 'new' in 2008 though.  According to the press release, they will be releasing a Vader, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Luke, and Darth Maul.  I was really hoping to get the TPM Obi-Wan FX from Master Replicas, but now I can only hope Hasbro puts it out at some point.

New license, new topic.  ;)

I've always wanted the Darth Vader Force Fx saber, but wasn't willing to pay the $150 price tag when TRU was selling them up here.  Hopefully, the price will be more reasonable once Hasbro has the license.  Hopefully.  :-\

It appears it will be manufactured by eFX and distributed by Hasbro.  It makes me wonder if all the FX sabers showing up at TRU was a kind of test run to see if Hasbro wanted the license.

Honestly, I tend to think that it was because Master Replicas wanted to get rid of all their inventory before the end of 2007, but I think that Hasbro's reps could see how well they were selling when they were in the stores.

I really hope that they will drop the price on these a bit, but I have to think that they will either be the same price or higher since this is a new 'venture' for both of these companies.  Maybe after they get into a routine with these they will be able to offer them at a more reasonable price, but for now I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

I wasn't thrilled to hear hasbro got the license for these, but if they keep the quality the MR had with the FX sabers, I'll give them a good long look.  Especially if they do a TPM Obi-Wan saber.

I'm happy to hear these will be continuing, and hopefully Hasbro can keep up the same level of quality that we saw from MR.  Now if we could get them even cheaper, even better.  I have two (both as gifts), Obi-Wan (ROTS) and Vader.  I always wanted to get a Luke, but never had the money really when they were available - hopefully this will give me my chance.  If they get cheap enough, hopefully I can get even more of them.

I'm torn on this.  My mood right now isn't very pro-Hasbro, so it's not really fair of me to suggest they can't pull it off.  I'm not that keen on them having it for biased reasons.

I don't know if they can reduce the price much, maybe down to $99 or so, but not that much further I can't imagine.  I expect production may go up but I worry that any reduction in price might be because they are re-releasing older versions.  I don't mind replacing a $5-10 figure with a better one, but a $100-150 lightsaber?  Probably not.

I have five right now and the only two I'm considering are Yoda's, because of the size and the blue Obi saber that seems to be more similar to the ANH version (is it?).  I have one of each color as that was my original intent (sorry, one of each color plus Mauls dual blade) so I don't think I want more.  But I wouldn't mind swapping my blue Anakin for the Obi because of the different style of hilt and Anakin's hilt is very similar to Vader's.  Go figure.

So per the main page:

Hasbro Force FX Lightsabers Revealed (http://hasbro.com/starwars/default.cfm?page=news&newsid=E8B0E715-D56F-E112-47F31195E5CAE91B)

I'm a little surprised that they would release yet another Luke and Vader saber as their first offerings.  I was hoping that they would have done something new.

I believe that they are planning on re-releasing pretty much all of the MR sabers before adding anything new to the line...

Walmart.com has these on clearance for $50 right now.  I never ordered MR's Maul saber so I went ahead and grabbed two site to store for $105 total.  From what I've seen at TRU and their store demo version, these are fairly close to Master Replica's versions.  Now I just need Mace's purple one and I'll be all set.

These great deals always have to happen when we don't have any money ;).  I always wanted a Luke FX saber, so that ANH one is awfully tempting at $50.

Walmart.com has these on clearance for $50 right now.

Thanks for the tip.  I might finally bite on one of these.

Other than the price - what's the difference between this one (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10532556) and this one? (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4875722&findingMethod=rr#Features+%26+Specifications)

Bah, I paid full price for most of mine.  And I'm damn proud that I bought into the hype of the "limited edition" crap that I was fed.   ::)

Actually I think I only paid full price for the Mace and Luke ROTJ sabers anyway.  I got the Vader and Anakin for pretty well below retail (not for $50 mind you) and got the double bladed Maul for $130, so I'm not too unhappy.  They are mighty cool and even the non-geekily inclined think they're neat.

I finally saw the Hasbro packaged versions of these at a mom & pop shop.  But when you can score them online from WalMart for $50 it's tough to pay full price...even if it's $20 lower than most of regular retail.

My Darth Maul sabers from walmart.com arrived last week and I put them together over the weekend.  These are pretty much the same quality as MR's.  Same look, same sounds, same construction, just cheaper.

Now if Hasbro's releases Mace's purple one, I'll be all set.

Very cool, glad to see this line starting up with new sabers again.  I personally still only have two (Obi-Wan and Vader) that I've gotten as gifts, but if I can come up with the money, I'd like to get some more.  I'm hoping for a re-release of the ROTJ Luke saber, and picking up the Yoda/Maul ones eventually would be great too.  I'm still hoping they make some "Force FX" blasters in the future.  I'd be all over a Han blaster, and all the trooper ones as well.
Title: Re: Hasbro Force FX Lightsabers
Post by: Matt_Fury on February 16, 2009, 02:13 PM
The Maul Saber is probably the coolest one I have, but the Dooku one looks pretty sweet and the TPM/AOTC Obi-Wan is probably my favorite hilt design going.  Also that would look more accurate than the ROTS Obi-Wan since the electronics made the "neck" a little thick on that one.

I was curious how many of you display your FX sabers.  Do you use something like saber-stand (http://www.saber-stand.com/)?  I personally only have two of these so far, but really hope to get more in the future if possible.  Right now the two I have are just resting on the included stands, but I thought putting them up on the wall might look kind of nifty and help avoid any warping from sitting horizontally.

Mine are currently just standing up next to the shelves with my Jedi Starfighters in them...if you look at my collection thread pictures you can see them.

The room's a constant work in progress so I might try to hang them on the wall someday....as long as I have a way to remove them easily for duelling.   ;D

Just out of curiosity, what are the differences between the OT Vader lightsabers and the ROTS version?  I received a Vader saber for Christmas a couple of years ago from my in-laws that they had gotten on clearance at a local Shopko.  It was the ROTS version, and I was wondering what (if any) differences there are between the various Vader sabers?  I'd sort of like an OT version eventually if it is greatly different, but if they are essentially the same I don't know that I'd worry about it.

According to the Hasbro Slideshow at Comicon, The Obi-Wan and Dooku sabers come out September and an Assajj Ventress Saber hits in December!

I will get the Obi-Wan definitely, maybe on the Dooku...pass on the Ventress.

We don't really have a new Hasbro FX Lightsaber thread, but I thought I'd just bump this to bask in the glory of my epic win say thanks to Hasbro for their Darth Maul Giveaway Contest this year because I won a runner-up prize of an FX Maul Lightsaber, which is outstanding!

I never win anything and I'd just gotten done losing all day at a local gun bash, so finding out I actually won something this time around made me feel stupidly contented for some odd reason.  :D

Now though, I want a 2nd one to put together the whole big assed saber.   :-\

Hasbro has once again sucked me into spending money I think. :-X

Thanks, I've been really debating the purchase of another to make the full saber...  I think I most likely will.  I hate to spend the money on one hand, but on the other I know it'll look badass.  Hasbro somehow wins here! :)

If/when I get them down I could snap a comparison to one of my MR ones if you wanted Brent, but they're put away for now and out of reach.  The Hasbro one's really nice though...  I have to say, I like it a lot to the point I'm going to likely plunk down for a 2nd to make a full Maul saber.

I just received a late Christmas/Early Birthday present:  The Kylo Ren Force FX saber!

This thing is probably the heaviest of the sabers I own...and it's pretty cool with the flickering blades.  The detail on the hilt is fantastic as well.

Are you talking about the $60 TRU exclusive?  I got one of those for my son's Kylo Ren costume for Halloween...it's nice, but definitely a kid's toy.

I didn't know that they Larger ones were being sold at TRU.

No, they had the Force FX one there.  It was sitting behind the Customer Service desk with a hold sign on.  I haven't been paying attention to these for a while so I didn't even realize that they were making one...

I'm not sure if this is quite the right thread for these, but does Hasbro still make the Ultimate FX sabers (the kid's size version of these?).  I know I've seen the Darth Vader/Anakin color change one off and on around Christmas, but that was about it.  Our daughter had a couple of these (Jedi Luke and Vader), but after the movie of course wanted "Rey's saber" - and we also wanted to get one for our nephew for his birthday, but didn't realize how tough they were to find at this point.  I see the Disney Store has some sort of lightsaber available online that looks at least similar, does anyone know anything about these otherwise?  Once you've had this version, those fold out/light up ones sort of pale by comparison.

There is a TRU exclusive Ultimate FX Kylo Ren Saber (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=59160506) ($65) and that's it right now.  The rest of what was out there was old stock, which has been drying up.  Sold out at most on-line shops last Fall for the most part.

Like you said, Disney has a version, but it looks like Hasbro is focusing more on the "Bladebuilders" style mashing/building lightsabers instead right now.

One of the bright spots in Hasbro's livestream today was the reveal of the Rey Skywalker lightsaber.  I've seen reviews of the Galaxy's Edge version and the Hasbro version actually looks like the more accurate prop replica!  The Hasbro version actually uses the correct switch and has the more accurate light up sequence!

I kinda want it too.  I got most of the ones I have on clearance including the OG build a Sabre from RadioShack (it’s my fav).  The last I got was a Kylo Ren at Ross and I love it too.  But they’re definitely space hogs and finding wall space isn’t easy for these.  Plus I don’t want them stored anywhere outside without heat and AC.  Chromed stuff takes some care to keep it nice.

But that Rey sabre is awfully nice and among the iconic ones I’d kinda like to have.  Certain ones look good together I think, and hers would look cool with ROTJ Luke and ANH Luke or ROTS Anakin ones, and Kylo’s.

I've never seen a Force FX elite saber on the shelves at a retailer (outside of Gamestop which sells collectibles) before.

I picked up my Black Series Kylo Ren saber in a Toys R Us back in 2015, but that's not an elite version.

Thanks!  It's one of the few lightsabers that I really, really wanted.  I had managed to pick up the Force FX Kylo Ren lightsaber a few years ago on clearance, but that was just because it was cool to find it for such a good price.  But Obi-Wan's saber?  That's one that I've been hunting for.  I'm glad my patience paid off.
