1:6 Scale Figures and Collectibles / Re: Medicom Stormtrooper
« on: June 7, 2005, 04:53 PM »
Very cool looking.  I have the Luke (btw...what's up with that pose on the Luke off to the right....it looks like he's about to drop a deuce!), and I have a Vader pre-ordered (should be here soon!).

The quality is amazing on these....I'm thinking that stormtrooper is a must have!  How about an Obi-Wan in the future Medicom?!

The Original Trilogy / Re: The Meeting
« on: June 4, 2005, 06:38 PM »
Meh....I think it's ok.  I would think Vader would be more out to prove he was right rather than pissed off.  He's also had about 20 years to temper his fury for revenge.

It is a dish best served cold btw.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Why have a 2nd Death Star in ROTJ?
« on: June 4, 2005, 06:36 PM »
Believe it or not, I totally can buy that it took 20 years to complete the first Death Star.  If you ever look at how the military brings a new weapon system from the drawing board to the front lines, it's a long process and takes about the same amount of time.

Plus, dealing with a prototype, there's going to be all sorts of unforseen problems which slows down the production.  I could see this being even worse with a moon-sized space station!  Once you get the first one done, making subsequent modaels are much easier, since you have learned to overcome most of the obstacles making the original.

I could also see that the Emperor would want a bunch of Death Stars.  These things aren't exactly the fastest moving vehicles in the galaxy, and you'd really need a bunch of them to keep the rebellious star systems in line.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: New pics of 51-56
« on: June 2, 2005, 08:23 PM »
I think they all look good, but I'm kind of suprised that they didn't go with soft goods for Obi-Wan's cloak so he could sit in the starfighter.

Just an odd choice imo.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: What figures are hard to find now?
« on: June 2, 2005, 08:18 PM »
The two toughest to find figures for me have been:

Red Royal Guard (never saw him at retail)
AT-TE Gunner (only saw twice at retail)

Power of the Force 2 / Re: The Beginning of POTF2
« on: June 2, 2005, 08:16 PM »
When the POTF2 figures came out, I stumbled across them in the store and thought it was pretty neat to see SW figures on the pegs after about a decade, but didn't collect them.

The first POTF2 figures I got were two Theater Edition Lukes when I went to see ROTJ SE in the theater opening day.

I didn't really get into collecting them until 1999 when TPM came out, and then I was mainly collecting Episode 1 figures,, but eventually went after the POTF2 stuff as well....especially when the quality improved.

Welcome neo.  Always nice to have someone new to the hobby join the boards.  There's plenty of resources here to learn from and share your insights as a newer collector.

I do feel sorry for you if you decide to be a completeist now though!  :o

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Take a Penny, Leave a Penny
« on: June 1, 2005, 04:34 PM »
Usually, if what I'm purchasing comes up to just over a dollar amount, the cashier will grab the pennies...I don't think I've ever touched it unless I was putting some in.

On a related topic, reading this thread reminded me of a time I was in a walmart buying something and the only money I had was a roll of dimes.  The cashier was kinda snotty and said they don't take rolled coins...so I smacked the roll on the counter let the dimes spill out an the countrtop and said, Is my money good now?"  The total for what I was buying came to about $4.95, and I waited until I got my change too!  ;D

Revenge of the Sith / Re: 500th commemorative figure... Vader?
« on: June 1, 2005, 04:19 PM »
Did you count droids that were repaints/different colored plastics as new figures because they came on separate cards?  What about figures like Oola, Muftak and Kabe, which were only promo/mail in items?

Just curious, because that could change your numbers too.

The $64 one has more detail:

die-cast body, chassis, and tie-rod assembly
detailed interior with dual ignition
opening hood
manufacturer-specific engine
opening trunk with fuel cell
roof with opening flaps and camera mount
working steering
wheels that pose
front and rear shocks
disc brakes

The $40 one has a little less in the detail department:

die-cast body
plastic chassis
opening hood
wheels that pose
manufacturer-specific engine
high-quality paint
tampo-printed graphics

They are the same size and the paint jobs are the same though.
