Title: Solo 3.75" Class B Vehicle Assortment
Post by: Jeff on April 9, 2018, 09:45 AM
I guess Hasbro/Disney began to open the floodgates at midnight last night and allowed some things to go up for pre-order, so I guess it's ok to officially start up some new threads...

Class B case is 2x Han's Landspeeder (SOLO); 1x A-Wing (TLJ).

I have low expectations for this movie, and I'm not thrilled about what they did to the Falcon, but I kind of like that speeder.

Amazon has a pre-order listing for Han Solo's speeder as well as the A-wing reissue.  $29.99 for this?  Really?  My, how things have changed.  A vehicle like this used to be $19.99 in a movie year.

As for the TIE Fighter that may or may not be in this assortment?  I hope it's the Heavy TIE Fighter!

All signs point to that Solo Mimban/Heavy TIE being in a class up from this, so more likely $40-50 for the TIE (like the over-priced TFA First Order TIE or TLJ Kylo's TIE Silencer). :(

Interesting that Han's landspeeder has a crumple feature like Zam speeder from AOTC.

Picked up Han's Speeder today, and although it is larger than those AOTC speeders, it doesn't seem like a $30 item. Having the figure packed with it contributes to that I guess, but still.

I kind of dig this speeder and may get it if a deal comes along. All the vehicles are overpriced IMHO. Some more than others.

Had a difficult time finding Han's speeder without a bashed box. Found a decent one, then set it down because of the $30 price tag. This won't be flying off the shelves, so I'll grab it later.

I really like the look of this. Like the boxy style. And the crash feature is just nice for something different

I had the same problem. I really wanted one to open anyway, so I have my opener, but I still need to track one down that's MIB.

So has anyone actually bought this Falcon?  It seems to be sharing shelf space along with the Landspeeder and Force Link 2.0 version of the A-wing, the boxes are the exact same size as the class B vehicles, but I haven't seen indications that it's shipping with them.

I have not purchased it. But I can say it is a separate item from the 3.75 scale stuff

I think it's a given that it's not intended to be a part of the 3.75" figure system since it's so scaled down.  But it does have the Force Link 2.0 tech, is at the same price point as the speeder and A-wing, and the box is about the same size.

For me it's really more a point of curiosity.  I get Hasbro wanting to get a budget version of the Falcon on the market that's small enough for kids to be able to handle it for play purposes.  I guess I'm kind of wondering out loud if it's shipping with the other class B vehicles.

I've watched them pull 3 Falcons from it's own case and the AWing and Landspeeder from their own case. Separate dpci at Target too
Title: Re: Solo 3.75" Class B Vehicle Assortment
Post by: Nicklab on April 29, 2018, 10:45 AM
Thanks for the additional info.  I'm very glad to hear that it's got a separate DPCI number, so there's less potential for it to cause a potential inventory logjam that might keep new vehicles from getting released.

So I guess the size and price point issues are more about sharing common shelf space and the planogram layout.

Looks like another Yakface rumor report (http://yakfaceforums.com/main/2018/04/12/rumor-report-3-75-imperial-at-dt-coming-soon/) = confirmed!

EE is taking pre-orders for a Wave 2 case of Solo 3.75" Class B Vehicles (https://www.entertainmentearth.com/product/star-wars-solo-class-b-vehicles-wave-2-case/hse0326b?id=JE-405087801) with the Imperial AT-DT (no pics yet).

That is AT-DT from the Star Wars Commander mobile game.  No idea how it will match up to Hasbro's Solo movie version, but it'll probably be similar.

They were jumping/walking around in the background during one of the Mimban battle scenes - pic from one of the trailers:

Looks like a plastic missile instead of a Nerf missile.

I know people on here have a difference of opinion on Nerf in SW toys, but in general I think Nerf offers more play value.

One thing I've wondered recently is why SW toys that use Nerf missiles don't use the glow in the dark Nerf bullet feature that some of their guns have.  My kids love this feature with the guns, and I'm sure would like it with the toys.

Don't those glowy darts require electronics/light to 'charge' the darts?  Probably would add more cost to things people are already complaining cost too much.  Would have been cool on the nerf-shooting TIEs though.  :-\

Yes, but it can't be too much as you can buy those guns for full price for $30, which is more or less the same price of Nerf guns without the electronics.

Agreed it would inch up the costs, but maybe more interesting than packing in a figure.

My only gripe right now is I hope the cannon has a better version ala some past ships but in the grand scheme I’m in either way.  It looks surprisingly well done and a good scale.  The walkers in the film aren’t large and I’ve seen nothing to imply they had big crew areas either.  There’s a downed one in the movie too with a body near it that gives better scale idea.  I’m sure it’s in the visual guide too.
Title: Re: Solo 3.75" Class B Vehicle Assortment
Post by: Nicklab on June 16, 2018, 10:53 AM
I like it!  Granted, you couldn't see these walkers too well in SOLO given the frenetic pace of the action in the scenes on Mimban.  And you were just barely able to see how the AT Haulers were air-dropping these onto the battlefield.

But from a design standpoint this walker seems like an interim step between the Republic AV-7 Mobile Cannon and the OT AT-ST.  That kind of connective tissue between eras is cool to see.

I'm also happy to see this being offered in the Class B vehicle line, rather than the more expensive Class C line.  I'm not crazy about this vehicle assortment selling for $29.99.  It seemed like vehicles in this range sold for $20 for a long time!  But it's definitely better than it selling for $39.99.

This was not on my radar at all as a possible buy, but after that quick look and description I really want it.

The only question I have is how does the pack-in Stormtrooper's sculpt compare to the Rogue One stormie sculpt? Are there obvious sculpting differences (apart from the paint job?)

I'll have to grab them for a closer side-by-side comparison.

Edit: The sculpt is similar but the mimban trooper is definitely different. Details are crisper and there are some belt changes as well. Not to mention the unique helmet.

Yup, thanks for sharing Jayson, it's pretty neat...  I like the efforts on blast apart features.  Seems like they're trying new things there.  The carded Mimban Stormtrooper blows so that's welcome updating there too.

The walker's smaller than I'd hoped for, and that's my personal hang-up.  Won't me I won't get it, but I may get it for customizing/alteration more than anything else.  Details like the footpads are kinda meh for me and the scale is just off, the cannon is a tad wonky looking for me...  It's neat, better than the AT-DP from Rebels by far, and so I may be picking it up for its usefulness but not for its intended purpose.

Now you're just making Hasbro look bad.    :-X

I think your weathering is a bit heavy (but much better than Hasbro's), but it shows how simplistic their paint job was and how much better it could be.  I'm not sure how much work it takes for a factory setup to do a slightly better paint job, but other than a few random splotches it looks like they skipped the paint completely.

Jayson’s work was really similar to what the Acid Rain Toys have applied and it’s all done by hand.  It sounds funny to say that in this modern age but some stuff just has to be labor intensive still.  When it’s done well it stands out for sure.

The funny thing too is as painting a model goes, which that more or less is, this is actually fairly simple but still labor intensive.  The work guys put into model kits can be painstakingly complex and intricate utilizing a ton of different styles materials and techniques.  Jayson shows though that even “simple” is incredibly effective but still it would be a hefty cost addition to toys with how labor is costing more overseas these days.

To be fair the guy who did Jayson’s thing was honest and said as much.  Jedi Temple Archives on the otherhand chose to omit that information from the guy’s post and post it to their front page instead.  If anyone ever wanted to know who is taking the high road in that feud, there are many instances of similar things.  Jayson has posted many things they have taken and not credited going back for quite a while now.

I believe there was even some “Disqust” editing and/or removals as well iirc.

I'm still going to pick up a few.  :P

It is far superior to the rebels ATDP so it’s making headway, but the gun portion is definitely so-so...  the cannons in the film I thought had longer barrels but I could be wrong.  The gun platform piece really just needed to be a hair bigger and a hinged armored window would’ve been nice.  Its legs are pretty fantastic actually though.  Articulated well and sturdy.

I still haven’t found ANY new product in stores in months.  This vehicle... the 2 packs... no basic figures since I don’t know when.  The only things I think I’ve bought in stores is the last three or four months are the troop set from Target and their Kessel playset.
