SO far they have confirmed an Empire Wave for 2009 and it will contain the greatest figure in the history of the line:
So, here's my hope for the rest:
Willrow Hood
Bespin Guard (Running ethnic change)
Ugnaught 2-pack Resculpt
Yoda (VOTC version with rocks, pots, and Luke's Gear)
Zuckuss Resculpt
Han Solo Bespin Jacket
Luke Skywalker (Medical Frigate)
Princess Leia (Medical Frigate)
-
For some reason i am thinking this will be a 6 figure wave:
1. Willrow Hood
2. Bespin Han
3. Medical Frigate Luke
4. Zuckuss
5. Ugnaught
6. Torryn Farr
-
I like Scott's list and it seems like a probable list (Zuckuss is the last of the BHs to be more articulated, Ugnaughts and Bespin Guards are army builders), but I think it's time for Torryn Farr to get made as well!
-
I really hope we get an SA Zuckuss, an SA Hoth Leia, and an SA Hoth Rebel Soldier in this wave, those three are just so insanely overdue it's sad. :'(
I'd also like to see Wiorkettle. Two obscure Bespin characters in one wave would be just about the coolest thing ever (right there under an entire wave of obscure cantina characters)!
-
1. Willrow Hood
2. Bespin Han- Re-hash (New Head, 30A Body)
3. Zuckuss- New, SA
4. Medical Frigate Luke- SA
5. Medical Frigate Leia- SA
6. Lando- VOTC re-pack w/ No Cape
-
The wave could be like that:
boba fett
lando
chewbacca
zuckuss
willrow hood
and maybe another good character
-
Mine would be:
Zukuss - resculpt
Piett- Resculpt
Bespin Han - Resculpt
Hoth Rebel Soldier - SA
Wedge - Snowspeeder outfit
-

Yeah I agree with that completely. Scott's list is excellent with the addition of Torryn Farr.
I'd buy each one of them.
-
Willrow Hood
Bespin Guard (Running ethnic change)
Ugnaught 2-pack Resculpt
Yoda (VOTC version with rocks, pots, and Luke's Gear)
Zuckuss Resculpt
Han Solo Bespin Jacket
Luke Skywalker (Medical Frigate)
Princess Leia (Medical Frigate)
Scott's list looks great to me as well. Torryn Farr would be a nice addition too. My most wanted (resculpted) figure at this point is a SA Bespin Han Solo, so I hope we'll get one of those next year. I was kind of hoping it would come in another wave of the VOTC, but it doesn't sound like we'll be seeing those again anytime soon. Willrow - of course - is a given, and its so cool that he's getting made. I've been holding out picking up the POTF2 Zuckuss, figuring a resculpt has to be on the way before too long. Same goes for the Ugnaughts. It would be nice to see the VOTC Yoda out there again, and the accessories Scott has there would make that a spiffy basic figure. Luke and Leia have been requested for a long time, and gives Hasbro another way to get the main players out there - which as we see with the ROTJ Deleted Scene wave, they're looking for new avenues all the time.
-
My hope is the following -
- Willrow Hood
- Zuckuss (new, SA)
- Bespin Guard (new, SA)
- Bespin Han (new, SA)
- Ugnaught 2-pk (new, SA)
- Hoth Rebel (new, SA)
- Hoth Luke (new, SA)
- Snowtrooper (VTAC repack)
-
- Willrow Hood
- Zuckuss
- Ugnaughts 2-pack
- Hoth Leia w/Oxygen Mask and Mynock accessories (for a certain BMF vehicle)
- Bespin Han w/Oxygen Mask and Mynock accessories (for a certain BMF vehicle)
- Hoth Luke
- Snowtrooper (VTSC repack) (heavy repeating blaster (http://www.starwars.com/databank/technology/heavyrepeatingblaster/))
- Hoth Rebel Trooper (with anti-vehicle laser cannon (http://www.starwars.com/databank/technology/lasercannon/index.html))
-
Hmmm. I'd go with the following for a TESB wave:
-Willrow Hood
-Captain Needa (he's gotten a Q&A mention IIRC)
-Hoth Rebel Trooper
-Torryn Farr
-Han Solo - Mynock Hunt
-Leia - Mynock Hunt
-Zuckuss
-Snowtrooper Officer (from AT-AT bridge)
-
I'd go with...
-Wilrow Hood
-Hoth Rebel Footsoldier/Trooper
-Ultimate Bespin Han Solo
-Jeremy Bulloch as Imperial Officer
-Zuckuss
-Human Ugnaught/hunchback
-Hoth Rebel Technician
-Snowspeeder Luke Skywalker
At least that is what I'd dig seeing. That'd wrap up a lot of my most wanted ESB figures for certain... Not all, but a lot of them.
-
-Captain Needa (he's gotten a Q&A mention IIRC)
I forgot about that. I'm pretty sure he was confirmed in said Q&A mention...
-
-Captain Needa (he's gotten a Q&A mention IIRC)
I forgot about that. I'm pretty sure he was confirmed in said Q&A mention...
I forgot about him, too. He's the last of the Imp Officers to be done from ESB (unless you don't count Piett who doesn't look like Piett).
-
He's the last of the Imp Officers to be done from ESB
I still want Captain Lennox. ('Good...our first catch of the day.' guy)
-
Any of these are good, but I bet we'll be getting a Snowspeeder Luke using the new, SA Evolutions body.
-
for other than Willrow Hood I hope we are getting the following
SA Snowspeeder Luke (Evolutions Body w/ new head w/ skull cap)
Toryn Farr
SA Zuckuss ( I will be stunned if he isn't in this wave)
SA Hoth Rebel Soldier (come on hasbro !!)
SA Bespin Han Solo
Admiral Piett (They will probably will do Needa)
-

Forgot about him.
-
In a way, I'd like to see them focus on a Hoth wave... nothing but Hoth (well, maybe a Bespin Han too).
Let's see... if it were *only* Hoth, here's what I'd like -
- VATC Snowtrooper (repack) x 3
- Rebel Trooper (new) x 3
- Hoth Luke (new) x 2
- Hoth Leia (new) x 2
- Probot (new - if they can do a Tri Droid, they can do this) x 2
-
I ******* love the Empire Strikes Back...here's my dream wave...
Snowtrooper (repack from the vintage line)
Hoth Leia SA
Hoth Luke SA
Hoth Rebel Trooper SA and normal size
Han Bespin
Zuckuss SA with softgoods
-
Zuckuss (SA)- inevitable, I think.
Hoth Rebel Soldier (SA)- so overdue.
Snowspeeder Luke (SA)- easy enough to do.
Hoth Leia (SA) w/ three gas masks for the Mynock Hunt scene. I say three so I don't have to buy Han or Chewbacca figures just for the masks.
Ugnaught 2-pack
Bespin Guard (SA)
-
I have three custom seats in my Echo base command center dio that are begging for Toryn Farr figures, so my main vote goes to her. Ugnaughts are definitely due for an upgrade, extra articulation just as the new ewoks have had. A rebel hangar trooper with brown vest and variant cap head and black boots would be great too.
-
Toryn Farr is apparently in the Hasbro "parking lot" according to the last set of Q&A's. So she seems unlikely for this upcoming TESB wave.
-
From SSG (http://forums.sirstevesguide.com/showthread.php?t=38399):
Princess Leia (likely Medical Frigate)
Luke Skywalker Medical Frigate
Ugnaught 2-pack
Hoth Rebel Trooper
Captain Needa
-
High f'n time ona new Rebel Hoth Trooper getting done... Now get to the other two.
Interesting list if the Tycho fellow's rumors turn out to be true. Good stuff for us to look forward to... The animated stuff sounds interesting too but still not buying. Just interesting to hear/see it is all.
-
I'm gonna go ahead and trust that Tycho guy and go edit my Tournament of Champions list. I'm really, really hoping that list is all confirmed because there's some really great stuff in there. :o
-
Im leaving my votes alone, just so I can feel special once I see these things on the shelf and tell myself "I voted for you" ;) ::)
-
I'll take 'em. Nice that we should see them at Comic-con.
-
From SSG (http://forums.sirstevesguide.com/showthread.php?t=38399):
Princess Leia (likely Medical Frigate)
Luke Skywalker Medical Frigate
Ugnaught 2-pack
Hoth Rebel Trooper
Captain Needa
5 figures huh? Leaves at least one slot conveniently open for you-know-who.

Yep, another Vader ;D
-
Sounds like a pass wave for me. I just need a sweet SA Bespin Luke.
-
Yeah, where's Willrow Hood?? :-\
-

We did get one in the VOTC/VTSC line. There is room for improvement though.

Like the headsculpt, which just killed it IMO.
I definitely think there are more figures in this wave. Vader is a no-brainer and ICMG has already been confirmed. I'd also be stunned if we didn't get an SA Zuckuss in this wave, he's the only ESB bounty hunter left to get an update.
-
All will be revealed in a week and a half. ;)
-
Torryn Farr!
-
It looks like a pretty nice wave overall (particularly if ICMG is the final figure of the wave). I really hope we get the all-out SA Hoth Soldier we've been wanting. Plus, I think the Ugnaughts were due for a resculpt, and the Luke/Leia frigate figures have been requested for a long time. There are a few other main character re-dos I'd like to see (Bespin Han, Hoth Luke and Leia), but maybe those will fit in the "vintage but not vintage" line that has been rumored off and on. If they did all new versions of those figures in the basic line, it wouldn't leave much for some of the "big guns". I'm really looking forward to see what is revealed at Comic-Con.
-
SA Hoth Rebel Trooper = confirmed. :)
From this week's answers (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1220671778,70469,):
3. It seems like every so often, someone will bug you in the Q&A about the lack of SA Rebels, so we figure its our turn this month. Where do we stand on the SA Rebel Trooper redos? Have you had a chance to slot us in that new SA Rebel Fleet Trooper or SA Hoth Trooper yet?
**There will be a new SA Hoth Rebel Trooper in a Spring 2009 wave. A new Rebel Fleet Trooper has not been slotted in yet, but we are looking for an opportunity to get it in, hopefully in 2010.
-
And I instantly have a figure erection...
-
Tremendous news!
-
Yes, this is fantastic news. I hope they do a great job on this Hoth Rebel Trooper - personally I'm hoping the uniform is the Echo Base Exterior White/Gray uniform, but since they haven't really done an interior Echo Base trooper yet, I'd put money down that we'll see that version with this figure.
-
Awesome news! ;D
This guy was always easily on my top five list of figures to be made.
-
Awesome. It's about time.
-
Lets hope it's of proper scale this time. :P
-
The cynical side of me has to ask... which part of the Hoth trooper will they screw up to keep it from being "ultimate"? ;)
-
Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts....
Ah ****, you're probably right, but please think positive on this and the 2010 Rebel Fleet Trooper getting made, and made to perfection. ;D
-
The cynical side of me has to ask... which part of the Hoth trooper will they screw up to keep it from being "ultimate"? ;)
Cynicism with just cause.
-
Definitely great news to get this confirmed for next year. The Rebel troops have really been lacking in attention, and its nice to hear that we will hopefully be getting a couple (hopefully "ultimate" versions) in the next couple years. I know they are some of my most wanted figures at this point, and hopefully Hasbro knows they really need to knock them out of the park after the long wait (and fairly crappy previous versions of these figures).
-
Ugnaughts Confirmed (http://hanshideout.blogspot.com/2008/09/hasbro-star-wars-q-session-1.html)
I'm just guessing here but I'm going to say that Willrow is going to be in the 2nd wave of ESB figures next year...and the rumored line up will hold true:
Princess Leia (Medical Frigate)
Luke Skywalker (Medical Frigate)
Ugnaught
Hoth Rebel Trooper
Captain Needa
Zuckuss?? (I'm just guessing here)
-
Hasbro also confirmed that there's an Imperial Officer in the works (http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/content/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=4149), but wouldn't ID him by name. That may in fact be Captain Needa.

That's probably a pretty safe bet.
As for the BAD for this wave, it might be a way to get E-3PO. It fits in with the other protocol BADs and keeps the ESB theme going.
As for the Ugnaught I hope he comes with a crate filled with 3PO's parts or maybe a carbon freezing room console. 8)
-
I like your add-ins, Jayson. Nice. Let's hope they do it!

I do not think it's Needa, I think it's Piett. Hasbro said: "an upgraded officer (although he will be named, and not generic)". They confirmed an upgraded officer, they never made Needa. That leads me to believe it's Piett.
Agree or disagree?
-
As much as we need a Needa, we need an upgrade of Piett.
-
I sorta took the "upgraded" comment to mean compared to the sculpt of past officers as opposed to a direct comparison by way of a character resculpt, but either way I'm excited! Getting another Ugnaught is great; too bad only one (better accessories then). I'm really not worried about the quality of the upcoming Hoth trooper because recent new sculpts have been terrific.
-
I think the upgraded officer is going to be Captain Needa. He's already been confirmed for 2009.

Emperor? In an ESB wave? ???
I hope it's not another holo Emperor... ::)
-
Maybe it'll just be a big holographic head. :-\
-
I guess Walmart didn't get the memo (http://hanshideout.blogspot.com/2008/09/hasbro-star-wars-q-session-1.html) that the Ugnaught is a single pack figure. :P
-
Why can't we just get a good SAHan Bespin? Hopefully he will be in the 2nd ESB wave. Overall this is a relatively boring wave, the Hoth Trooper is the real saving grace. Luke and Leia in white medical clothes does not get me too excited.....
-
Emperor? In an ESB wave? ???
I hope it's not another holo Emperor... ::)
The Emporer doesn't appear any other way in TESB. It would be criminal to repackage that SDCC exclusive holo Emporer.
Personally I'm hoping that this is actually a Greatest Hits figure. And just maybe there's some other TESB figure in the works for this wave.
What's odd here is this: we got the giant Emporer head in the SDCC exclusive 2-pack. And there's also a holo Sidious on Mechno chair that's rumored for a TPM themed wave. A TESB Palpatine seems a bit strange.
-
I don't really think Hasbro would card a big head.
-
I don't really think Hasbro would card a big head.
You could really take that out of context. (and I'd be flattered if they did mine). ;)
-
Very boring wave, I think I won't buy any figure of this wave, maybe the Ughnaughts, but nothing more
-
It'll be interesting to see what the Emperor figure is in this wave. We still sort of need an "ultimate" Original Trilogy Emperor figure (the Evolutions/Order 66 pack based one is on the right track), but it doesn't really fit into an ESB wave. Otherwise, the rest of the wave looks pretty good to me. The Luke and Leia are likely the long rumored and requested "Medical Frigate" figures, and Captain Needa is a nice addition as well. The Ugnaughts are a needed re-do, and could be pretty spiffy. The big figure of this wave, to me, is the Hoth Rebel Trooper. We've all been waiting for them to go all out on the Rebel Troops (this one in particular), and hopefully they'll knock it out of the park. With there not being an "action oriented" version of a main character in this wave (Luke and Leia are more of background/dressing characters in these outfits), the Hoth Rebel Troop is sort of the anchor of this wave.
Like it was mentioned, I do hope we see that ultimate Bespin Han (and/or Hoth Luke/Leia) in the 2nd Empire wave for 2009. With this wave, and the 2nd including Willrow Hood, it could shape up to be a great year for Empire figures.
-
I would love to see an OT Emperor styled like the Evo version, but with the correct head and a cloak that's more like a black version of the VOTC Tusken robes. I guess it would also need to be better tailored. And a cane. Force lightning hands would rock too.
But that's a ROTJ Emperor. I don't see how the Emperor could fit into this lineup. I hope they don't repack the holographic Emperor from a few years ago, that was basically a translucent version of the '97 Emperor.
I'd personally much prefer a new Zuckuss and/or Dengar.
-
I'm obviously pumped for a new Hoth Rebel Soldier... A new Ugnaught's nice, but not something I'm cartwheeling over. The same goes for Medical Frigate Luke/Leia... Nice but nothing major. The Rebel is without a doubt this wave's high point so long as it's a near perfect figure.
I love me some OT goodness so I'm excited to see all these figures, I just hope they all turn out to be pretty special.
-
I'm with you Jesse. I never bought any of the Hoth troopers (with the exception of Bren Derlin and General Riekkan) because they are so piss poor. Some Hoth Rebel goodness has me psyched.
-
Is anyone else a little disappointed that there's only one new character in the whole wave lineup? Captain Needa is a welcome addition, but these are all just new versions of previously seen characters. But I guess that's just a fact of life since there are so few new TESB characters left to be done.
-
How about a monkey eyed Emperor?
-
Well...Medical Frigate Luke and Leia have been long requested and I think most people will welcome to their collections. The other point is that outside of Torryn Farr and a modern Echo Base Trooper, there is not a whole heck of a lot from ESB that is "New"
-
Is Luke in his bathrobe new? Yes. Is it interesting? That's debatable. I'll give Hasbro some credit for trying to mix it up with the core characters. But this is probably the least compelling version of Luke Skywalker from the entire OT.
Thankfully there is news of the second TESB wave which should have Willrow Hood and Torryn Farr seems to be rumored as well.
-
This looks like a pretty decent wave, but nothing overly exciting other than the HOTH REBEL SOLDIER! WOO HOO!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I will gobble up the Luke, Leia and Hoth Soldier. I am not paying $8 for one Ugnaught. I am not going to rip into them about that decision but it does seem to be a bit on the cheap side to me. But they have given us plenty of stuff I never thought we would see. So, I won't rip about it too much. I just think it would be nice. You know they are still rolling in the profits from all those clonetrooper repaints over the years.
Yeah, I am definately looking forward to Willrow and Farr. It would be nice if they could crank out a black Bespin Guard. Well any updated guard actually. Though it would rot on the pegs I suppose. I would take a few more pilots from them. Mainly snowspeeder Luke, Wedge, and even Dack.
-
I'm liking this wave as well and also excited about the potential of the Hoth Rebel soldier.
-
We could probably piece together a reasonable lineup for that 2nd Empire Wave (since it has been confirmed by Hasbro that we're getting to ESB waves in 09). There have been a lot of rumors over the past couple years that could maybe fill out that wave. Also, Hasbro mentioned at a SSG Q and A (I think) that the ROTJ and ANH waves would be 8 figure waves, so I'm guessing both the ESB ones are 6 - so who do you think will be in this wave? Some rumors I recall:
Willrow Hood (confirmed)
Toryn Farr
Zuckuss
Bespin Han Solo
Hoth Luke Skywalker
Hoth Princess Leia
Bespin Guard
I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting as well. I'm sure we won't get all of the "big 3" in one wave, they usually like to spread those out a bit, but I wouldn't mind seeing at least one "ultimate" resculpt of either Bespin Han, Hoth Luke, or Hoth Leia. We'll hopefully getting the ultimate Hoth Rebel Soldier in the earlier ESB wave, and we've already got a spiffy Snowtrooper. They seem to be filling out the Empire lineup pretty nicely at that point, although the "other" version of the Hoth Rebel and the various Snowspeeder Pilots would be nice as well (Luke, Wedge, etc.).
-
They could Dengar, maybe just give him articulated knees and change the angle on the elbows and mon the gaunlets some that he could point his arms straight down as well and not just be at the holding a rifle pose all the time. OR just go all out and give him ball elbows.
-
I seem to remember Hasbro stating that Hoth Leia would be later rather than sooner, so I have a feeling that she won't show up in this second wave. The Hoth trooper- how much I want this one! I'm so excited wondering whether it is the outdoor white/grey defense guys, or the Echo base interior guys.
-
I think I'd like to see something like this:
Willrow Hood
Toryn Farr
Zuckuss
Hoth Leia
Snowspeeder Wedge (Evolutions rehash with new headsculpt)
Snowtrooper (Hoth UBP repack)
The Snowtrooper is supposed to be coming out in the Saga Ledgends line at some point soonm but I still wouldn't mind seeing a few more on the pegs.
-
Here's my prediction/wishlist for the second TESB wave next year:
-Han Solo - Bespin gear
-Zuckuss
-Bespin Guard
-Willrow Hood
-Torryn Farr
-Imperial bridge technician (redone Scanning Trooper)
BAF - No idea
-
I wouldn't mind getting R3-A2 as the BAD as it was only available in that Saga Hoth TRU multipack. That way we'd get the figure with a modern sculpt and it fits nicely into the ESB/Hoth theme.
-

Yeah! I would love that! He's on my list of wanted droids and I missed the Hoth multipack.
-
According to the Q&A sessions, both TESB waves are supposed to be 6 figure waves. So I guess we're looking at protocol droids.
-
My wishlist if I'm held to just six figs as well as going on rumors of what's in the wave:
Willrow Hood
Torynn Farr
Medical Frigate Luke
Medical Frigate Leia
Captain Needa
Ugnaught
Those figs would plug several holes in our collecting desires. Now if we can just get a decent NEW SA mold of the Bespin guard with running changes for white/black/asian races, I'd say we're purt near done with figs from that movie. Other than the most obscure ones of course, Mr. Hood notwithstanding.

Better be E-3PO and U-3PO.

Looks like the last of this wave was confirmed in Scum's Q&A (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Hasbros_63rd_STAR_WARS_QA_The_Answers_118724.asp) this week -
- Medical Frigate Luke
- Medical Frigate Leia
- Hoth Rebel Soldier
- Captain Needa
- Ugnaught
- Emperor (Evo sculpt with new head)
with a Build-A-Droid HK-47
-
I am uber pissed they are not including E-3PO...that is beyond lame. Hopefully the Willrow Wave Will have E-3PO

What the hell is up with Willrow? That have not stated jack about this figure. Half of this wave kinda sucks bantha balls. HK, emp and the Rebel trooper should be nice. Luke and Leia in white robes is very...very...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

He is supposed to be in the 2nd ESB wave, which is slated for late 2009. Based on how Hasbro does things, I doubt we hear much more about him officially until SDCC'09.

I hope so, next to the SA Han Bespin he is my most anticipated figure. Maybe we will see him at TF in February.
-
I hope we see some pictures soon, we really are beyond due at this point.
2009 is shaping up to be a great year, outside of the Hoth Trooper which is the star of the wave, everything else looks to be a good choice. I never really felt the need for an Ugnaught rescukpt, but I'll take one.
I really hope Needa ends up being the Ultimate SA officer we need so badly.
I'm beyond excited to see Hk-47 as the BAD. Hopefully T3 isn't far behind. :)

I hope so, next to the SA Han Bespin he is my most anticipated figure. Maybe we will see him at TF in February.
According to jediinsider Han Bespin is 2010! I thought he was 2009. UGH!

Maybe Scott will get a personal invite to the unveiling!

Nice touch doing the "new" emperor.
-
So is this wave definitely "Wave 6" or Wave 2 of 2009? It would be nice to see two OT waves back to back (with this and the ANH wave) - its been a little bit since we've seen that much OT goodness in a row :).
-
If they reset to BD#1, then I think it would be safe to call it wave 2 of 2009.

Wait- Hasbro still makes OT stuff? :P Seriously, it feels like I've been out of collecting this last year because of it the scarcity of OT product. EU is the new OT :-\
-

Well, the numbering on the ANH themed Wave 5 (aka 2009 Wave 1) isn't starting over. The pics we've seen list Stormtrooper Luke as BD #30, Stormtrooper Han as #31, etc.
I prefer calling it "Legacy Wave 6" instead of 2009 Wave 2, but that's just me.

I concur.
-
Yeah I'm not a fan of breaking things up by year. It's confusing. This is perhaps my most anticipated wave, however Wave 5's BAD R5 is easily one of my most wanted droids. That wave, as cool as Cantina guys are, is not holding a candle to my anticipation for a new Hoth Soldier.

The carded images of the ANH wave had BD numbers that followed those of wave 4 (ROTS). So perhaps calling this wave 6 is totally appropriate.

There's a new picture of this wave up at EE (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HS87535E1) with all figures.

That would actually be wave 5.

Ughh. Sorry about that. My bad.

I agree as well, I'd just as soon like to continue the wave numberings as long as the cardback/line name doesn't change. Heck, I don't think they need to change it as much as they do, although I guess I understand the "fresh packaging" marketing standpoint. They could have just continued to pack things on those OTC cardbacks and that's be fine too.
I was just wondering if this wave is officially the next wave after the ANH lineup. It seems like it must be, as the entire wave has been confirmed, but I didn't know if that was the exact order or not. It really seems like we should be getting pictures of this wave before too long - it could possibly be here by Feb/Mar I would think.

Finally some images!

Holy **** that Hoth Trooper looks awesome.
I like the Ugnaughts too.
-
Hmmm... in a Q&A last Fall, Hasbro said:
** Yes, there will be a new Ugnaught in 2009 (we could not cost it out as 2-pack however).
But there in the picture are two distinctly different Ugnaughts. ???
I wonder if they were able to swing a 2-pack after all or if the two are a running change or variants or what?
Holy **** that Hoth Trooper looks awesome.
It looks good... but wait until you find out it's only 3" tall. :-X
-
Wow, awesome.
I'll definitely be army building the Hoth Trooper, it looks pretty good. The Ugnaughts and Needa are cool too, but the rest of the wave is about as exciting as cream cheese, at least in my opinion. That green Emperor is gonna rot on the pegs. :-\

Yeah, but they also said Obi-Wan and Braniac wouldn't come with the tables, so we could be pleasantly surprised again.
Hmm. I really like those Ugnaughts actually. Very, very cool.
Looking forward to all the army building goodness this wave has to offer! :)
EDIT: Where's the B-A-D HK-47? ???
-
Well... the soft goods on Luke is not what I wanted or expected. Beyond that, he looks good. Leia, too. Hoth Trooper=Awesome, Ugnaughts=okay didn't really want them, Needa=ditto, Emperor=this is an improvement?
-
That is definitely monkey eyed emperor
-
It looks like a decent wave. I'm not totally crazy about Luke and Leia being in the wave to begin with, but they seem decently done. Even though they gave Luke his lightsaber. ;D
Needa - Finally a good Imperial Officer. And Captain Needa finally gets his due.
Hoth Rebel - Very nice. The sculpt looks far better than the Saga version. And well articulated. But it looks like the lower portion of the coat was cut off. I wonder if there's supposed to be a softgoods extension to the coat.
Ugnaughts - Very cool to see both of them. They look good, even though the image has them out of scale with the other figures. But I'm still confused about Hasbro's response, saying that we'd only get one. Are they going to do this as a running change, or will there be a 2-pack?
Emporer - Monkey faced emporer it is! And damn, is it ugly.
Luke - The head sculpt is actually pretty good. The open wrist is cool. Him getting the hand tweaked by 2-1B was the coolest part of that scene, IMO. But the lightsaber? LOL!
Leia - I honestly would have rather seen a Hoth Leia resculpt. But it makes sense to release this Leia as a companion to Luke in this wave.
-
Nice wave...
Leia looks like she'd maybe translate very well to a new ANH Leia, no? Luke, cool I guess... These two weren't a big deal to me but I appreciate getting them nonetheless.
Needa looks like probably the best "generic" IMp. Officer so far, and a good army builder. I'm not a huge fan of the DST legs but somehow they look better. I'm hoping something was altered so they at least don't have the flaws the DST himself had.
Ugnaughts, very cool...
Monkey Emperor? Uhm, ok, I'll take him. Can't say I was asking for that, but I'll buy it. :)
Rebel Trooper... Ah, the jewel of th ewave. Little flaw I can see, though Jeff beat me to the 3" tall joke... Considering the stature of the last one, I wouldn't joke too much. He was about that height if I recall. ::) Articulation looks spot on, and it looks like maybe removable head/face gear, all good things. A working holster for a sidearm, a rifle, and assumingly a backpack. He looks to be the gem of the wave. I hope he does have more of a "skirt" piece like Nick mentioned (softgoods) on the final figure, but really that's a detail I'll concede to get the rest of a seemingly great looking figure...
Let's just hope he's actually a normal size.
Oh, and Hasbro... Brown him up and give him a new headsculpt. I'll buy a dozen more.
-
ill only get the rebel. but i have 1 problem with him...doesnt look like he has been eating much...
-
The Emperor looks like if Palpatine and Yoda had a love child.
I'm also not sure about the Ugnaughts....I would have to see them in person.
The Luke and Leia look good, but not sure if I would get them.
The Hoth trooper and Needa are the best of the wave....I'll never see them in person.
-
I'll be getting them all, but I'm not extremely happy with Luke's sg robe. I like softgoods done well and was hoping for one with a little thinner material. I had no desire for the ESB Emperor (with expected monkey face), but I'll get him to complete this wave and the BADs. I haven't completed a wave since wave 1.
-
Awesome looking wave. Very pleased that the they're doubling up on the Ugnaught and the Monkey face Emperor sure is a surprise as well. It rekindles my hope for eventually getting a Sebastion Shaw likeness for Spirit Anakin.
-
My biggest problem is that the Emperor should come with a cane, not a lightsaber >:(
-
Yesterday when I first saw them I was yes want all of them, after looking at them again I have decided I dont want all of them.
Luke - I have to admit is going to be an easy pass unless I can score him for cheap.
Leia - Yes, and I also must now pick up a VOTC Leia (Well her head in anycase).
The Emperor - Nope just wont suit my collection, never liked the idea of Palps kicking off with a lightsaber in the PT Movies (he should have remained a manipulator, but with great power), and he never appeared in TESB with a lightsaber, let alone appearing in a solid state, I would have preferred it if they had went back and improved the Floating Head and released that.
Captain Needa - Yes, I might get a couple of these.
Ugnaughts - Yes, however I wish they had done a better sculpt for the heads, instead of using POTF2 heads, also I am hoping the ugnaughts at least get the tool bag.
Hoth Rebel Trooper - Yes, but I hope they give him his skirt piece, either in soft goods or plastic.
-
My biggest problem is that the Emperor should come with a cane, not a lightsaber >:(
Still might.
Over all, exciting wave.
Luke - cool new look. Love the fore-arm.
Leia - works
Emperor - exactly as I had hoped.
Needa - could have wanted better.
Ugnaughts - I'm assuming the picture is out of scale, but none-the less, they look great.
Hoth trooper - FINALLY! However, not too crazy about the scarf. I'm sure I'll pick up a squad.
-
Neat wave, except for Prune Face Palpatine. Maybe Orimaarko is going to get an update soon?
Or is it a prototype for the species Grebleips?
-
The Emperor - Nope just wont suit my collection, never liked the idea of Palps kicking off with a lightsaber in the PT Movies (he should have remained a manipulator, but with great power
EXACTLY my thoughts, but that's for another discussion :-*. I LOVE this wave. The only thing, and I mean ONLY thing that sorta caught my eye as being a little less than expected, is the skinny legs of the Hoth trooper. Their uniforms were bulkier than that for the cold. Check out this image:
That said, I still love the figure and will be getting multiples!
-
Just a couple other thoughts: is that the VOTC Leia body? Looks like it. Also, they cannot seem to sculpt a good Emperor hood for some reason, though the baboon likeness is neat!
-
I like them except for the Emperor and Luke. Hopefully, Luke's robes won't be as puffy as they're pictured here, so that would remove my nit if that was fixed. I don't think anything would make me like that Emperor figure, but since I'm going to buy it for the BAD piece, meh. Hasbro wins again.
I do like to see a decent Hoth soldier. And more Ugnaughts are awesome, though I thought the ones from '98 were OK for the most part.
-
My biggest problem is that the Emperor should come with a cane, not a lightsaber >:(
If you really want one I have a ton.
Maybe they want Monkey Emperor to "come at you like a Spider MOnkey" with his saber?
-
Looks like a good wave. My thoughts...
Ugnaughts- YES. I've been wanting Ugnaughts in my collection for a while. These two look good, hope we get some random junk as an accessory.
Hoth Rebel Trooper- This guy looks pretty good. Hope he is released with a skirt, but otherwise, pretty cool. Like the choice of weapons, and it looks like he has a scanner too.
Captain Needa- Not too exciting, but a good figure nonetheless. A possible buy.
Monkey Emperor- Awesome, wasn't expecting this. Wish he had a cane.
Don't care too much about Luke or Leia.
-
Is there logic that I'm missing as to why they put an Emperor in this wave?
Did I miss a scene where he appears in something other than a hologram?
-
Emperor - I think it looks terrible
Hoth Rebel Soldier - Definately buying multiples. I know the coat is not perfect but I want SA.
Luke - Good enough for me.
Leia - Pretty good I think.
Ugnaughts - I don't think I will get them.
Needa - Love it!
-
Needa - Looks a bit too skinny for an Imp Officer but he's still cool. Buy.
Luke - God I wish that robe wasn't soft goods. Soft goods and Luke figures NEVER work (see VOTC Luke, 30AC Rancor Luke) but the arm is cool. I'll buy it but I'm on the fence until we see final carded images.
Leia - Good reuse of the best VOTC Leia parts. They just need to darken her outfit to a tan color otherwise this is nothing more than an inaccurate ANH Leia.
Ugnaughts - I'll probably get two sets.
Hoth Soldier - Looks great, if he's at least a regular scale I'm getting at least 4.
Emperor - Awful. I don't understand how a 1997 Emperor headsculpt is 1000% better than all the other Emperor headsculpts we've gotten since POTF2. Pass, and I might hide every one I find so nobody has to buy it.
Looking at this wave more it's actually really disappointing. Everything looks too skinny and inaccurate. Hoth Troop looks too short and skinny, Needa looks too skinny, Luke's robe is way too big, Leia is in an outfit from a different movie and Palpatine has one of the worst headsculpts I've ever seen.
I hope the loose/carded pics are better.
-
I am going to remain skeptical of the Hoth Trooper until we see it in true perspective.
Somebody should have thought about it before letting that "press image" get put together. Showing him the same size as Leia and smaller than than the Ugnaughts is killing my buzz for him. He would be the first Star Wars item I have bought since Smuggler Lando...but not going to get too excited...Hasbro has let me down before...Death Star Trooper, I'm looking at you... Everytime I see that Image, I have flashbacks to the other Hoth Trooper....
I will come in here and Crow ..and hope I have to eat a whole flock.
-
Is there any info as to whether Luke's wrist panels close? Or will they permanently be open?
-
Diddly- Leia was indeed in her ANH robes during that scene. I don't think there was any color variation either.
The Ugnaughts appear to use the same body underneath the tool garments, hands too. They must be a 2-pack, but could almost be running change if enough accessories were included.
-
Oh ok... I haven't watched ESB in a while and thought she was wearing a tan colored robe that was pretty high up on her neck.

seems like it would be a lot of work to have the working. If I had to guess, I'd guess they'll be permanently open.

alright so i might get leia too just to finish my ANH scene for my BMF....and if the rebel does come with 2 heads ill get two...but thats it!!! lol
-
This is a nice wave for me, The hoth rebel trooper comes with a machine gun, ughnaughts are different from potf2 sculpt, Leia was in esb final scene with her anh robe but with another hairdress, luke is well depicted, accurate. Needa a good aquisition for officers
The emperor seems his head looks like the original esb 1980 hologram, a bit green skin.
-
That Hoth trooper has two heads... are they identical?
The cannon looks good too.
-
It looks like Hasbro is picking up where they left off with the TSC Endor Rebel troops. They recognize the need for some individuality, and we're getting a running change on the Hoth trooper. NICE!
I think one of the Hoth trooper heads has the big walrus mustache that you see on one of the Hoth rebels. The other one looks clean shaven. Plus, it looks like there are two different hats as well. I like running changes like this in army builders. I'll probably be buying at least 4 of each running change. And with the different hats you can probably do some mixing and matching to break things up so that the Hoth rebel army doesn't look like a bunch of clones.
-
Ok, my excitement for the Hoth Trooper just tripled. :D
EDIT: Although I still don't see a skirt! >:(
-
In that pic of Luke, do those hips look super articulated? And what the hell is that flesh colored phallic accessory on the ground in front of him? :o :P
-

Is that the communicator thing he uses to talk to Lando and Chewie in the Falcon at the end of the movie? (as seen in the pic below)

Good call
-
Is it also possible that the wrist looks to be flipable? If he only came with his Bespin coat modled underneath this might have been my favorite figure of all time. The headsculpt is FINALLY spot on. Whoever they had doing ANH and ESB Luke the last 5-6 years has been terrible in capturing Mark Hammil's likeness
-

I'm pretty sure that "accessory" is supposed to come with Leia.

These are proto figures in those pictures, and just like mcfarlene hockey figures...kovalev im looking at you...the proto almost always looks spot on but the final product always looks nothing at all like it. Heck look at the TAC windu proto compared to what we got.

Yikes. Let's hope for the best, because this Luke is a pretty good likeness.
-
Hoth Trooper comes with the Rebel tri-pod trench gun? Will the final figure have it? The possibility alone has given me a figure erection. I've wanted that (and asked Hasbro about getting it with a new trooper) for ages! :) Oh joy!
-
I totally agree on Luke's headsculpt, it looks quite accurate and a million times better than any we've seen for years. Or perhaps ever?
SA Ugnaughts? Sweet, I'll take that set.
The Hoth Trooper could very well be the best figure of 2009. Super articulation, great sculpt, numerous accessories, and multiple headsculpts. I'll take 10.
-
I'm wondering if we are gonna get the two headsculpts and all the gear though... I really want multiples of the figure, so I'm hoping yes, but will they split the gear up and do a running variant head swap with a different hat and the tri-pod gun? Tough to say.
The one head definitely has a beard/mustache thing going on... Less army builder-ish but still good. The rifle looks all-new as well judging by the photo, and the backpack definitely is. There's a lot of re-used parts on other figures in the wave I noticed, but the Hoth Trooper really got a balls-to-the-wall figure, especially if you get all that gear with him. If it's a variant with the tripod gun, so be it, and still cool, but man I just can't get past the coolness of that figure.
I'm just loving this figure so far... I easily could see this being my favorite figure all-time at this point.
-
Ok JJ....I will agree in part, but dissent in part...
I think you are overlooking his Wide Stance Syndrome, or you are more forgiving these days. Also as the paint aps go, it looks like the gloves are the wrong color, plus the missing "skirt" piece.
I agree that the Rifle Looks new, hopefully it will be made of a more substantial plastic than previous models.
I really like the Multiple Head Sculpt/Headgear options. If you bought 4 of these figures you could potentially have 4 unique army builders with different Hat/head combos.
The crew served weapon also looks fairly accurate and scaled well.
Credit this wave for dragging me back into Star Wars..I was all but done (almost sold the VOTC Stormtrooper Army too)...but my interest is back...now to find other Star Wars related goodies to buy.
But, if this Rebel is diminutive like the Saga one I will walk away from SW forever.
-
Nice surprises on the Hoth trooper. It'll be interesting to see the final result of the head thing, I'll bet running change.
-

It makes more sense financially for Hasbro to give us one head at a time as a running change. Otherwise, they're shipping out two craniums for every one body, meaning they're wasting money on the plastic for every duplicate.
-

Don't they do that for some of the Joes though? I thought I remembered seeing a couple of those that ship with alternate heads.
-
I didn't get a chance to post on these until today, but I really think this wave looks like a winner as well. Just to get a great Hoth Rebel alone is a treat, and the rest of the wave looks good too. I've been holding off on picking up the POTF2 Ugnaughts waiting for a re-do, and I'm glad now that I did. The Luke and Leia have been requested for awhile, and as others have said, I think the Luke might have one of the best headsculpts of that character yet. Nice to get another Imperial officer too. The Emperor seems like a bit of an odd choice, but I'll be picking it up as well. It seems funny that we've been asking for a simple headswap of that Evo Emperor to make a nice ROTJ one, and we still haven't gotten that, but we're getting the monkey faced version (with a lightsaber?) that never appeared other than a holo. Oh well, the whole wave still looks good though.
-
As much as I love the head sculpt for that Luke, it could easily be letdown overall if the factory runs get horse**** paint apps. Nearly all of the most recent Lukes have been horrid in that regard and could make or break this one too.
-
I think the stance might vary a bit Paul. That's a test shot, and the other photo we've seen shows a very neutral stance. Still, stances are fixable easily, so that's not a huge deal to me. I have fixed tons of Rebel honor guards I've bought. It's minor.
If I have a gripe it'll be the skirt... I'd like to see a final figure, to see if the skirt is going to be there or not. It too would be fixable with a piece of white fabric I think, but that's getting a good bit more involved and costly.
-
(http://www.imperialholocron.com/photos/hasbro/2009/2009-tlc-esb-wave2.jpg)
The Hoth Rebel looks good and as long as it's not as scrawny as it looks, i'll be army building. A waist coat/loin cloth would help.
The ugnaughts are nice. Prolly get the imperial too.
I'm not getting anything else here, but I will say this about the emperor figure:
"We don't wants it!!! We don't wants the precious!!!!"
-
I like Monkey Emperor for the novelty of it...
Kinda like concept figures, no? I dig the idea for the novelty but they sorta stand alone on the shelf. The monkey Emperor is gonna come at you like a Spider Monkey Dressel, watch it.
-
JJ I think you have been given sub-par Rebel Army Builders for so long that you will now accept pretty much anything that doesn't outright suck. Certainly you have not mellowed in my absense from SW stuff.
Don't get me wrong, I am waiting with guarded optimism for this to be the "Ultimate" version of Tactical Hoth Rebel Troopers. But I wanted that with the Death Star Trooper a year ago too...
I like this wave enough to order the case online too.
Monkey Emperor is for those of us that remember him when...
-
This figure looks miles superior to the DST... I can work with the DST, but he's not perfect by a longshot. He has a lot of good features, but his articulation points aren't pretty (I always have been able to tolerate that though, as I prefer having the joints instead of not having the joints), and he's obviously too tall. Again, too tall is fixable, but it's like the skirt on the Hoth Rebel here... Fixable but a major flaw.
The stance doesn't bug me... Fixing that is a pretty simple process that doesn't damage the figure even, so that I can handle.
-
I am just lazy and don't want to have to "fix" it........
I feel sorry for Rob though...without me Army building in DFW for over a year, he has had a pretty easy go of it...
I also see a decent Hoth Luke custom coming out of that Hoth Rebel if the figure is taller than an Ewok...(I'll hope for the best)...
I think it would not be beyond Hasbro to include all the accessories/heads in the same pack, but their history in SW and Joe is that spare "heads" come in Comic Packs to this point.
-
I don't wnat to either, but the reposing is at least easy...
The other stuff are things that I consider major gripes though (skirt, if he's diminutively small, etc.). To me the DST was a nice update, but far from perfect. Just better than the old figure. I'd take a new one in a haertbeat that was given to a better sculptor/designer I think, as whoever did the DST seemed to do a rushjob on him.
Yet somehow the Needa looked good... Weird.
-
It's all about the Boots...
Needa (a Captain) needs officer boots...Death Star TROOPER..needs Trooper Boots...
I am also hoping the Hats for the Hoth Trooper are not too bluky as we have seen on a few other Hoth Hat/Helmets.
-
The only litmus test we have is Han's really... I am ok with it if it's removable. It's kind of like articulation to me... I'd prefer to have articulation that isn't pretty, than not to have the ability to pose a figure. Likewise I'd rather have a little larger headgear that pops off than not have removable headgear at all. I think it'll be ok because Hasbro's done fairly well with removable helmets. The big gripe anyone seems to have are Clone/Trooper helmets bulging at the face.
Beyond that they've been ok. I thought Hoth Han's was nice.
-

They might do that for the Joes. But look at the Star Wars group's history. They did the running change with the ROTS Royal Guards, the ROTS Wookiee Warriors and the TSC Endor Rebels. If they hold true to pattern they'll do a running change with the Hoth Rebel, too.
-
Sounds like we have a few questions for the next Hasbro Q&A regarding the Hoth Trooper's skirt and multiple heads/accessories. ;)
Regarding Monkey Emperor, it's totally cool that we're getting it but Hasbro could have done a lot better on the sculpt. Or design it as a shadowed hologram or something.

I feel sorry for Rob though...without me Army building in DFW for over a year, he has had a pretty easy go of it...
No need, I've made it a habit not to buy multiples of troops that have identical faces unless they're supposed to (clones).
I'll buy one Hoth trooper, and if they switch his face out, I'll buy one more.
-
The first thing I thought of with Luke's accessory was 2-1B's tool poking him in the palm of his hand, testing his pain receptors. Oh, over at RS someone put together a nice little comparison of Ugnaughts:
-
There are many variations of outfit for the Ugnaughts depending on whether they were seen in the hallways or in the carbon freeze chamber, but one minor gripe is that the blue apron version doesn't have the grey apron going down to his feet like in the reference pic or in the POTF2 one. Still, as mentioned, it could be an off-screen variant.
-
Yeah I'm treating them as not so much replacements, but just more Ugnaughts. I'd like the hunchback human looking one now. I'm not gonna retire the originals though. They were good in their own right.
-
A nice wave. A lot of it's reusing old parts aswell, could all that gear come with one rebel?
I really like the Ugnaut 2 pack ,especially the nod to the vintage figure.
Incidently, Big Bad toy Store say according to direct confirmation from Hasbro the BAD for this wave is now U3PO.
-

Agreed.
I'll get two sets of these likely and make customs.

Well now that puts a damper in this wave for me. So it's an off-gold almost TC-14 type protocol droid. Meh...
I was SO hoping for HK-47.
-
HK is probably the most wanted BAD for this year , I'm sure he will turn up in one wave this year.
My personal guess is the AOTC wave- due to the "potentially" uncommercial Lars.
-
Personally, I'm glad the BAD is U-3PO. I really, really think the BAD needs to be film-specific to the wave. I'm really upset that I can't get the 2 RA-7 droids without buying ROTS figures. I have no idea who HK is either ::)

I'd guess they are basing the 2nd one on this dude:
The first has a head similar to that of the Jabba Palace Ugnaught Yoxgit:
The uniform is different enough that I'd like to see something new if they ever try to do him...but at least the head is done

I completely agree.

He's an assassin droid from the first Knights of the Old Republic video game.
HK-47 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/HK-47)
Also I hope we get an Ewok Throne 3PO repaint if the BAD is U-3PO. I want me some SA protocol droid, not the odd articulation the RA BADs had.
-
What Diddly said... HK's incredibly entertaining in KOTOR, but I could see them slipping him into a prequal (less protocol droids to pick from it seems) or EU wave. U-3PO suits me fine. HK's a really cool droid in the game though, for sure, and probably one of the more funny/entertaining characters in all of Star Wars if for no other reason than he calls humans "meatbags" constantly.
I'm almost skeptical they'd make him a BAD figure though too... Unless they confirmed it in a Q&A? He seems popular enough from KOTOR to get a carded figure, not essentially a "free" figure.
-

Yes, originally they confirmed HK-47 was going to be the BaD for this wave in a November Q&A session...
Looks like the last of this wave was confirmed in Scum's Q&A (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Hasbros_63rd_STAR_WARS_QA_The_Answers_118724.asp) this week -
- Medical Frigate Luke
- Medical Frigate Leia
- Hoth Rebel Soldier
- Captain Needa
- Ugnaught
- Emperor (Evo sculpt with new head)
with a Build-A-Droid HK-47
So either A) BBTS is mixed up or B) something happened that caused a delay in HK-47 (maybe they are saving him for a later wave or had a tooling issue or something). I guess we wait and see...
-
I can't see Hasbro changing the BAD for this wave in light of what they said about HK-47 only a month or so ago. I think it's more likely that some bad info got sent to the e-tailers.
Staying true to the movie theme would be fine by me....if they chose E-3PO, which is the name for that Cloud City protocol droid. U-3PO is the chrome protocol droid from the Tantive IV.
-
Here's a combo of the Yoxgit head with apron and gloves (and the mask from the grey corridor version too!):

I had almost forgotten how ugly as hell ugnaughts are. Yo they are busted.
-
Jedi Insider has a pic of the variant Hoth Soldier:
http://jediinsider.net/g/index.php?mode=view&album=Hasbro%2FLegacy_Collection%2FWave_06&pic=Rebel.jpg&dispsize=600&start=0
-
Nice find. Lack of skirt aside, Hasbro really came through with this character.
-
Gawd, that is incredible. And since the hats are removeable, there is potential for some amazing variants and/or customs. Yeah, the lack of skirt is quite glaring... we're going to have to find the best custom soft goods option and spread the recipe around.
-
A piece of white fabric (loose, stretchy, thin) with "mighty mend it!" so you don't have to stitch that bitch.
:)
Seriously though, the skirt annoys me... Hasbro is making sure to screw up at least one thing on any given figure these days, and the skirt sucks. I keep hoping when we see carded shots of this figure instead of hand-painted protos and stuff, that we see a figure wth a simple softgoods skirt piece on there. It honestly doesn't look like it'll take much.
We've not seen a shot of the production figure yet though. Just a test shot/proto, and the hand-painted proto shots... There's hope for the skirt.
I wonder if the Hoth soldier is gonna come with that gun regardless of the headsculpt? That'd be cool to get extra trench guns.
-
Dont like the Palps, I am sorry in ESB he was a floating holographic head - not ROTS Palps, even in ROTJ the one I really wanted to be remade - he doesnt use a lightsaber, also the hood is crap.
Luke Skywalker even though a good figure, I dont need it so I will be skipping this one.
Princess Leia Organa - skipping this one as well, and hoping for this figure with ANH head on it.
Ugnaughts - now we are talking like these and want these.
Captain Needa - I like it and want it.
Hoth Rebel Troopers - I love these, just hope they do the skirts for them in PVC or SG.
-

No skirt fo' you
(http://www.sirstevesguide.com/plugins/p17_image_gallery/images/2160.jpg)
:(
-
That's pretty lame, actually. :(
Not a deal breaker, as the figure itself is impressive, and adding a skirt is certainly doable (tedious, but doable), but you shouldn't have to. The figure should be right in the first place. Blah.
He's great in every way, but that one point. I mean, he's really outstanding in every way, so I'm quite giddy, but at the same time the skirt thing's a big letdown. I'll look past it, but it's one flaw on an otherwise fantastic figure IMO. Two figures really...
So, skirt issue aside (skirted aside?), now do we get the BFG with both figures, or just one? And what about the rifle and scanner/tool thing? I don't see it with that figure there... One with a tripod gun and one just a basic grunt rifleman? I'm ok with that I guess.
Either way, this is probably the single best looking figure in the modern line to me... Put me down for many of both headsculpts. I'll mix some Han Hoth helmets in there, some extra gear/packs, and some extra generic headsculpts, and make my own much more diverse army.
-
The carded pics do nothing to help Luke. This is a HUGE letdown for a figure I've wanted a long time. The soft goods are just a mistake. :(
-
I just can't bring myself to army build this one, it's just... wrong. Really annoyed as Hasbro. To me this is the most disappointing rebel figure since Jan Dodonna. Can't want to hear their explanation. "Couldn't cost it out". Everything else is perfect, so why? >:(
-
The new carded/loose pics at Jedi Insider make Needa look very good, and even seem to help the Emperor out a bit, but Luke and Leia really look like crap. I seriously think that this wave consists entirely of figures that are doomed to be horrible pegwarmers, with the exception of the Hoth Rebel, of course. He'll be impossible to find. :-\
Oh and I think it's also noteworthy that the Ugnaughts still haven't showed up in any new carded/loose pics since that first one started showing up. Maybe Hasbro's still trying to decide whether both will be included or not....
They better include both. >:(
-
the rebel looks cool. im up for 1 of each variant if it comes to canada...hoping it does since hoth and canada can be considered one in the same ::)
-
Hmmm... looks like those carded pics confirm the switch to U-3PO for this wave. Makes me wonder what happened to HK-47 then? ???
Seems odd they would throw him out there in the Q&A and then change it on us like that... maybe he'll show up in another wave (maybe he got bumped to '09 ESB wave #2)?
-
I'm liking the Hoth soldier. It'd be nice if they and the Luke came with the same droid part so I could skip that figure since those softgoods just ruined it. I thought Hasbro learned their lesson on that after the VOTC Luke.
-

I figure HK-47 would be a good fit for an EU wave. Isn't there one coming?
-
Yup that's the word from H anyway...
I was thinking he'd be a good EU figure wave BAD too, especially if there's any level of KOTOR focus to the potential wave. Bastilla keeps coming up at least. I'd think with how well Revan/Malak did that Hasbro would have a boner to get back to KOTOR in some capacity.
-
The new loose pics make the monkey face Palpatine look much better. The molded hood is actually an improvement.
But these new promo pics are a head scratcher. Hasbro said HK-47 was the pack-in. But now these images surface and the BAF parts are for U-3PO from A NEW HOPE. There is a way to tell the difference between U-3PO and E-3PO, btw. Check out these pics:
U-3PO - A NEW HOPE
(http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/thumb/9/9b/U3PO.jpg/250px-U3PO.jpg)
E-3PO - THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
(http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/d/d1/E-3PO.jpg)
The difference is the coloring of the midsection.
But back on point...perhaps Hasbro decided to shift HK-47 to the EU wave? It would be a much better fit. But the news of the VYH-1 droid as a BAF is another EU droid candidate. Weird.
-
This esb wave is nice for me, I want to collect all of them. Great design for Palpatine holo esb, the rebel trooper has all the necessary accesories. They have to present the variation no bearded trooper.
-
As nice as Needa looks, I'm really dreading his release, as I'm still having issues with the Moff Jerjerrod Army to this very day. Boring white guy in drab gray uniform is the OT equivalent of Neimoidians at retail, it seems. And by that I mean that I'd be perfectly happy getting several more, but I seem to be in the minority in that regard.
That said, this could very well end up being the Legacy equivalent of the TSC 2006 "Battle of Endor" wave overall. Everyone will buy the Hoth Rebel Troopers up (ala the 2006 Death Star Gunner), the Ugnaughts will be the next to go (ala Chirpa), and we're left with pegs full of Palpatines (again), Imperial Officers, and the main characters (ala Threepio).
-
I dunno Dr. P., it's a much better figure it seems. Removable hat, more articulation... It's more an army builder than Jerjerrod. I got one JJ, and didn't want a single more of that figure. it was very disappointing to me.
Now... Needa I'll likely pick up 20 or so. Guys like me can make a major dent in any local area, haha.
-
With a specific Imperial officer character like Needa (not to mention how good of a likeness he is!) I really prefer to head swap as much as possible so that it doesn't look like Needa in every diorama scene I place him. So I'm thinking I'll get about 4 of him most likely.
-
I'll headswap too for sure, but I'll get more... He's even got the seemingly generic rank badge of ROTJ. That's good for, well, army building. :) I'm pretty geeked other than his potential height being oddly tall.
-
I might get more that one as well. I have to admit, I think I have plenty of generic officers, but articulation upgrades tend to woo me.
-
(http://www.sirstevesguide.com/plugins/p17_image_gallery/images/2160.jpg)
versus
(http://www.imperialholocron.com/photos/hasbro/2009/2009-tlc-esb-wave2.jpg)
Isn't that a pretty big difference? I mean I really don't follow along all that much anymore, but the second pic looks like a Hoth Luke in the gear beside Leia and now the dude has a goatee and stache plus he seems to have lost his scarf in the winter breeze. I like the first released pic better personally.
-
You're in luck, were getting both. It's a running change like the black & white Endor Troopers.
-
Hence the picture of both on the packaging? I see, thank you.
-
Yup, a prototype picture showed a 2nd head, and hat mold, plus a rifle's been pictured along with a scanner device thing. Pretty cool stuff!
-
Hello community... today on rebel scum we can see the first ughnaught from esb wave
I thought Hasbro will pack the two ughnaughts together, but they chose to separate them
The first ughnaught comes with a freeze chamber computer and ur3po arm
But is it fair for collectors?
Was there not enough room in the blister for the two ughnaughts technicians?
The toy is nice but a small single action figure could seem overpriced for this wave.
-
******* lame. >:( That could all fit in a gumball machine egg. I'm glad I'm bailing soon on this ****. :)
-
Wow. That's extremely annoying, considering we're already paying for another figure with a running change in this wave.
This wave, while not even all that impressive as a whole when you think about it, may end up being a very expensive one. :-\
-
We shelled out $7 for an ewok with an accessory (the baby).
-
I'll second what Rob said... I dont' really look at this as being THAT bad. You get a neat "weapon" (tool bag), and a console... I'm ok with that. The Jawa w/Droid is obviously a better deal, but this doesn't seem too bad. The figure's surprisingly articulated too... Very neat.
-
But is it fair for collectors?

True it sucks, but there is about as much plastic here as there would be for a single astromech (new or otherwise) and I don't think we've been collectively complaining about that. I think we're all just pissed that it has been speculated/fantasized back and forth between single and 2-pack and it turned out this way.
I'll gladly spend the $8 on multiples of both versions. ;)
-
Oh c'mon. It's bee like this since 1978. The little Jawa all alone on that big card? Remember?
What gets me mad is that lack of skirt on the Rebel! Again, Hasbro goes out of their way to short change an army builder so we'll want a new one next year. As far as accuracy goes, this guy sucks...
-
I was mentally prepared for either outcome regarding the Ugnaughts. At least we do get some extra accessories.
-
Yeah, and at least we are getting the tables , Septoid and Dice - cut backs would have to occur somewhere along the line.
Also Ugnaught looks good.
-
I think I can deal with the Ugnaughts being single packed because we're getting so much else in the package, there are the accessories (tools and control panel) plus the droid part. To me that's a lot more of a deal than a saltshaker Senator with just a stand.
As jono said there are quite a few other cool packins this year. I'd add in the repeating blaster (not sure what its called) that comes with the Hoth Trooper. I'm sure there will be a couple others too.
-
It'll be interesting to see how large or small the sculpt actually is. If it's too big, it's a better deal, but perhaps less accurate to the film. I'm bothered by the short apron, though there could have been one like that in the junkpile room; gonna have to do some research :P
-
Ok guys thanks for your answers. It΄s true both ughnaughts are a must for our collection, indeed the console accesory is intended to balance the amount of plastic used.
I saw some pics from potj Freeze Chamber, on the top and bottom it has consoles
So if this console comes with the taller ughnaught, what accesory do you expect to come with the shorter ughnaught guy?
-
A ladder.
-
A ladder.
Awesome! ;D
-
Nice one!
What about a straight repaint of the carbonblock from saga? Remove the glow effect but maybe add some coloured lights (Paint) to the side panels.
-
A ladder.
What about a straight repaint of the carbonblock from saga? Remove the glow effect but maybe add some coloured lights (Paint) to the side panels.
Both awesome ideas! I'd like a ladder because it could also go with the X-Wings, since after the Scramble at Yavin battle pack it'll pretty much be the only big thing missing from the Yavin hangar (besides Commander Willard).
-
I really like the idea of a "solid" deco Han Carbonite block that lights up at the control panels. Wouldn't take much, actually, to make the panels look right either. Some transluscent stickers over each panel with an LED inside would do the trick pretty much. I've actually considered that project myself a couple times. As an accessory to a small figure, that would be quite neat... Seems unlikely though. :(
-
It isn't completely out of the question though. After all, we've gotten an electronic R2-D2 with led's and sound in the basic figure line.
-
I think it's possible -
(http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/ActionFigures/saga/0238chewbaccacloudcity/cf.jpg)
-
blech.....I hated the Saga days. I think a log would be great though.
-
blech.....I hated the Saga days. I think a log would be great though.
Mikey loves him some logs.
-
The 3PO was exactly what I was thinking about with the Carbonite slab. It's simple enough. With some maybe lightpipes inside the block that go to each "control" piece, it could light the thing with one LED I'm pretty sure.
-
I dont mind the running change on the ugnaughts. They told us it wasn't a 2-pack so i was only expecting one. I am happy to get the second in any way.

Sorry David, that wasn't the direction I was going with that. I meant the that the shorter Ugnaught would come with a ladder because he's short, and would need a boost to reach stuff. A boarding ladder would be a nice pack in with the Yavin set though...
-
Is this the HK-47 we are getting with this wave? He looks like he could be kitbashed from GI Overkill, battle droids and some B.A.T.S.
-
Except he wouldn't have the "plugs" and other design elements to make him a multi-piece thing you put together... I wouldn't expect much less than basically all-new parts like we've mostly been seeing really. That is HK-47 from KOTOR though... I hope he's nicely articulated since he's a character of action.
-
Is this the HK-47 we are getting with this wave?
That is HK-47, but all info we've seen lately says that HK-47 is no longer coming with this wave... click back about 3-4 pages for the details.
-
HK-47 was announced as a Build-A-Figure, but all of the packaged images of this wave show that U-3PO is packed in with the TESB figures.
-
Sorry to break it to you, but HK-47 isn't going to be in this wave. He was originally mentioned as such, but it seems that Hasbro changed something up. :-\
-
Yup.
-
Wait...still not clear. We're getting HK-47, aren't we? And by that, I mean HK-47 from KOTC as a Build-A-Droid.
-
Ryan, I'm pretty sure you're thinking of AK-47. Which is a soviet assault rifle, and not a build-a-droid.
Hope that helps.
-
Wait...still not clear. We're getting HK-47, aren't we? And by that, I mean HK-47 from KOTC as a Build-A-Droid.
KOTC? What? Now I'm confused. ???
-
They had AK-47's in KOTCS. HK-47 was in KOTOR. I think you're confused Ryan.
-

But isn't there supposed to be a KOTO B-A-D version in the works?
-
I think so, and I hope it's got a lot of poseability because he's pretty action-packed.
-
Intersting.. so we are getting an AK47? Which is the direct descendant of the MP44 (Kalishnakov was a thief no matter what people try to say) and the MP44/Stg44 is the basis for the Hoth Rebel rifle... I think someone at Hasbro has a flare for irony...
-
It takes the EU and ties it to the ESB themed wave. You made a tight connection there Paul.
-
I hope this Luke head will fit on the VOTC Bespin Body. This actually looks like Mark Hamill and not Rocky Balboa as the Bespin VOTC Luke does. Did we get any confirmation on the Rebel Trooper head swap. Is it already in the blister or is it a running change? I saw a seller on ebay had it all together which I hope it is, it leaves more flexibility and make army building easier.
-

There's been official photography of both versions of the Rebel Trooper. And IIRC the card artwork shows 2 different Rebel Troopers.

:o From the Hasbro presentation at Toy Fair:
And I guess it's confirmed somewhere that the Rebel Trooper's been corrected and will be coming with his man skirt. :)
-
Ladies and gentlemen, the new standard for the C3 series protocol Droid. No reason we should get another on any other body.
-
Agreed. That 3PO head is perfection! I also read that DePriest stated only a few Hoth troops will make it out without the skirt. That's great news, and I wonder if it will be soft goods or not.
-
I really like the BAD for this wave as well. I wonder how long it will be before we get an all-new "ultimate" 3PO using that sculpt? Hopefully not long. The Endor throne version certainly isn't bad, but the increased articulation and great head sculpt would make a spiffy new version as well. Glad to hear the news about the Hoth soldiers skirts, that would make an already great figure(s) even better.
-
I see RS (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Whats_Next_For_The_Legacy_Collection_121788.asp) has a look at the AOTC wave, as well as the repacks coming alongside, one of which is the Hoth Rebel - this time showing the cloth skirt.
-
Great to finally see the corrected version. Unfortunately my budget won't allow me to buy more than a few of this wonderful army builder, but I'm looking forward to it!
-
I was loving seeing the final version with the skirt, but then dreaded the whole "soft goods" stink argument due to arise.
-
So we have to buy repacks now to complete the BADs? I'm obvivous if there's any other AOTC figs in this wave. :-[
-
So we have to buy repacks now to complete the BADs?
No.
There are two more new figures in the AotC wave - Tarados Gon (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Bhst0QM2lBk/SZdfr1r8vlI/AAAAAAAACjQ/CH49hPRm7q0/s1600-h/wv6_tarados.jpg) and Concept Anakin (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Bhst0QM2lBk/SZdgpJDhr8I/AAAAAAAACkY/yjys0AUONUA/s1600-h/2v6_conceptanakin.jpg). Buy those two, along with Obi-Wan, Beru, Owen, and Typho, and you'll have all the parts to HK-47 and won't need to buy repacks.
-
No.
Thanks Jeff....I thought I was going crazy there for a minute. :)
-
Not really liking the cloth skirt on the Hoth Rebel, but oh well.
-
Me neither Chewie. Although I will still buy a few of each variant. I would have preferred plastic similar to the long jackets on the Indiana Jones Nazi Soldiers. If I am remembering those correctly. Oh well at least it's better than nothing.
-
I gotta disagree... I don't think the cloth is perfect looking, and it could've probably stood something a little thicker, however nothing moves like cloth for poseability, and soldiers with "plastic skirts" can turn out badly. The Germans from the Indy line had decent skirts, but they still don't sit perfectly... Cloth will allow that.
The Hoth Rebs skirt is a thinner material than I think I'd have gone with, but I'll take it. If that's the worst thing about the figure, thank god.
-
http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=hasbroTDF&Number=3661029&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=93&fpart=8
It's been found. Time to start hunting.
-
Man alive. I thought I was going to have a few weeks off after getting the last piece I needed from the most recent Clone Wars wave.
But it looks like at least one of the Ugnaughts is going to carry forward as a reissue in the LEGACY RED line.
-
Nice to see there is NO skirt on the Hoth Soldier... or was that supposed to be an error for the first shipment only?
-
Nice to see there is NO skirt on the Hoth Soldier... or was that supposed to be an error for the first shipment only?
The error version without the skirt will be shipping first. And the corrected versions are set to follow later. That's what Hasbro said at Toy Fair.
-
Glad to hear this wave is hitting, really looking forward to it. Plus, it seems like its been a little slow - especially figure-wise - so far this year. Looks like a nice wave overall, and hopefully the "skirted" Hoth Soldier won't be too far behind.
-
Scored the Hoth Rebel today. Despite the lack of skirt (for now) and a couple other minor flaws (the paint is pretty crappy on the helmet and belt), I am mighty pleased with this figure.
-
That looks damn cool! The Hoth rebels are going to be my first foray back into army building in a little while.
-
For anyone interested, HTS appears to have this wave available for preorder (they list a 5/11 ship date).
-

Here, let me Google that for you. (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=hasbro+toy+shop+star+wars+promo+code)

That was nifty.

Just got my set of 6 from BBTS...my Hoth Rebel came as skirted as a school girl (but not as giddy)
-
Bought the Ugnaught and Captain Needa at Target today.
The Ugnaught is **** ugly, which is awesome. His outfit is super detailed, which I was really impressed with. The little carbon freezing console he comes with is neat too. It makes me look forward to Version 2, which looks even better. It also makes me want Hasbro to make that creepy human Ugnaught guy to follow them through the hallway in my Cloud City diorama.
Captain Needa is SUPERB. They've finally made a definitive Imperial Officer without the ridiculous wide leg stance and stupid swivel elbows. Some features that stand out are of course the level of articulation, the removable cap (wasn't expecting that), the really great Needa likeness, and best of all the SEPARATELY SCULPTED RANK BADGE!!!! I can already see Hasbro re-releasing this figure a gazillion times; all they have to do is sculpt a new head and rank badge and it's Piett or Sheckil or Lennox and so on. And I don't mind this one bit. I will buy every re-release of this figure, it's really, really good. Hasbro, you have my permission to sell me this figure over and over and over again. Start with Piett, please.
So far I've bought 3/6 of the figures from this wave, and I have to say I'm really impressed. It's the first new ESB (my all-time favorite movie) stuff we've gotten in a LONG time (since fall 2007 I think) and it's really nice to see these classic characters get the quality treatment Hasbro's been consistently delivering in the last few waves. Great, great stuff. :)
-
Picked up palpatine and leia at target today. they had all of the new wave except luke. I have a feeling the ugnaughts and hoth soldiers will be the peg warmers this wave though.
-
Oh btw, the leia was pretty basic looking, nothing spectular. I was impressed with Palpatine, even if it didn't look like him as he appeared in ESB. He looks more like a EU Palpatine or even a Palpatine clone, but I still like it.
-
I have a feeling the ugnaughts and hoth soldiers will be the peg warmers this wave though.
???
-
At $8 each they're all peg-warmer candidates IMO.
-
Has anyone found the Hoth Soldier with his skirt at retail yet?
-
i know but kids will tend to go for the lukes and leias and emperors. There were even kids going through them when I was there, and they're mom asked them if they wanted the ugnaught and they just ignored them trying to go for palpatine (which i grabbed). and of course they wont sell as much with an 8 dollar price tag, but parents will still buy them to shut up their kids. and i'm just saying we'll be seeing ugnaughts next year still hanging up but there will no sign of palpatine or luke.

I've got to disagree with you on that, at least on Palpy. I have no desire to buy that figure, and it that seems to be the general sentiment around the boards. It looks like the total turd in the wave. That and Palpy figures traditionally haven't sold through very well, at least around here.
I'll agree that the Ugnaughts may sit for awhile, they look like nice figures but at $8 for that small a piece of plastic, I wouldn't think they'd move very fast, especially considering the POTF2 version sat for awhile. The Hoth trooper is easily the highlight of the wave. He won't last for long, even at $8 I'd expect him to move faster than anything in the wave.
-
Good point ryan, I ultimately wish that they all sold well, that way Hasbro would be more willing to put out figures that haven't been released yet or badly need re-released! and i hope im wrong about the hoth soldiers and ugnaughts, because I think they both look great and they deserve to be purchased. :)
-
Luke: will sell some with collectors and a lot more with kids (he's a hero figure)
Leia: will sell some with collectors and a lot more with kids (she's a hero figure)
Palpatine: Luke: will sell some with collectors and a lot more with kids (he's a villain figure)
Hoth Rebel trooper: will sell with collectors, more so for army builders, not so much with kids
Ugnaught: will sell with collectors, more so for army builders/customizers, not so much with kids
Capt. Needa: Ugnaught: will sell with collectors, more so for customizers, not so much with kids
So balancing this out, I'd say the figures have a chance to sell fairly even across the boards due the appeal to different demographics. I'm guessing this was Habsro thinking as well.
The biggest drawback in all of this of course is the HIGH pricepoint. Long gone are the $5 or even $6 dollar SW figures. Paying $7 was too much, $8 is just ridiculous. Hasrbo, PLEASE bring your prices down, $6.50 is a much easier pill to swallow.
-
I'm guessing that the Hoth Rebel Soldier is going to be the tough find with this wave. Hopefully both of the variants will be packed out regularly so people can army build them (or even find them). I noticed that with this entire wave up for order/preorder at HTS, the Hoth Rebel Soldier is the only one that is already sold out (before they are even technically "in stock").
I don't know how exciting they will be to kids either, its tough to say. I just don't know how much kids are into the OT, but maybe/hopefully I'm wrong. For the older collector set though, I think this is one of the highlight figures of the year. I mean, we've basically gotten pretty "ultimate" version of many to most of the Imperial troops (Stormtrooper, Snowtrooper, Biker Scout, etc.) - but the Rebel factions have been really lacking. I hope these Hoth Soldiers are just the start of being able to fill out the ranks on the Rebel side, with "ultimate" Fleet Troopers and Endor Soldiers not far behind.
-
Has anyone found the Hoth Soldier with his skirt at retail yet?
I've read numerous reports that it has been found.
-
Here's my thoughts on this wave (don't have them yet, but Jaysons did a great Toyguide Update (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/tlc.html) which I think tells me all I need to know):
Luke - I just don't see this as being a hot figure. I could be wrong, but a figure that looks like he has a bath robe on just doesn't seem to be something too many kids are going to go bonkers for. I almost think this would have been better in a battle pack format, with this Luke, the Leia and the droids standing inside the Medical Frigate. Throw in a little medical chair or something and maybe it goes over well. Heh, maybe a monumental flop though. I'll get one of these, no more, unless I REALLY need another B.A.D. part.
Leia - I like this because it's basically a VOTC Leia, done RIGHT. I think this will sell ok, but not as well as a lot of other figures these days. Is Leia all that popular with the kiddos? Most Padme figures seem to sit a while now, so why would Leia be different? I'll probably get 2-3 of her though. She looks great.
Captain Needa - If history tells us anything with the past Imperials in gray suits, this one could be a pegwarmer. The articulation is great and it's a nice sculpt, but will be really be all that popular? Time will tell. I'll get a few, but I'm not getting a dozen like I would have 5 years ago.
Hoth Rebel - I think it's the gem of the wave, and I think most collectors will feel the same way. Well done army builders usually do well and I don't think this is going to be an exception... I'll probably get 10-15 of them. It's THAT cool of a figure.
Ugnaught - I have to agree, this might not do all that well. I will get a few of them, but I don't know that I like it as much as I hoped I would.
Palpatine - Say what you will, but this turned out a lot better than I think a lot of people had originally thought. I've heard some great things about it from people that have bought it. The head looks pretty good actually, and he does come with a lightsaber... seems kind of cool to me.
^ Actually, I love it!
-
He does look better than what I thought he would. I look forward to the day we get the Saga Head Sculpt on a SA body for the ultimate Emperor. while I look forward to this wave this wave the overall Legacy line after wave 1 & 2 seemed to go downhill with the assortments, it's no wonder sales are sagging. It's almost like it's a 50/50 year. (50% Good, 50% Turdish)

One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn't belong.
-
Oh I know! The 2nd from the right is a bastion of awesomeness, no? His grimacing face, diminutive stature... they scream Hasbro's best work!
-
I got my case in from BBTS.com and my Hoth guys are the corrected version with the skirt.
-
The skirt thing seems as though it was VERY limited. That's a good thing for both the folks who got them without skirts and for the rest of us who want them with them on.
-
Maybe you guys shouldn't be so biased towards short people. Why can't a small person be in the rebel army? ;)
-
I received a set via BBTS yesterday, and I think this is a pretty strong wave overall. The Hoth soldier is the winner for me as well, and I really like this figure. Its so nice to finally get a definitive rebel soldier, since most to all of them have been so lacking. The trooper I received also had the skirt. There isn't always a lot of focus on the rest of this wave outside the soldier, but really all the figures seem pretty solid to me. I especially like the Leia figure, and hope that they'll pop a VOTC ANH head on this figure and release that. This figure seems to improve on the few shortcomings of the VOTC Princess Leia figure (ball jointed elbows in particular). Needa is also really cool, if for no other reason that it opens up the possibilities to a number of other Imperials in the future. The Luke is/was a much requested figure, and I have to say that its nice to add one to the collection. The Ugnaught is pretty nice as well, although a two pack would have been good too. Even the Emperor is ok for what it is, although its still funny seeing an OT-era Palpatine with a lightsaber. Really nice wave overall though, and I can't wait to pick up more Hoth troops - just a great figure. That "history of the Hoth trooper" pic Jayson posted is really indicative of how things have changed in the line over the years.
Oh, also, the Build a Droid U-3PO for this wave is really nice too. Hopefully we'll see a C-3PO re-do using this body at some point.
-
I picked up the rest of the wave yesterday. Interesting wave which in general I like. The thing the strikes me is just how re-paint wave this is like.
Luke - Great figure overall. The "belt" is obviously oversized, but the ball jointed hips are a nice surprise although a bit wasted on this figure.
Emperor - I love it. Feel a bit cheated as the only new part is the head, but it works for me.
Needa - What can I say? I'm a sucker for imperials. I hate the Trooper legs and lower torso, and I have an issue with the limited range of motion at the elbows, but, come on, it's Needa.
Leia - another figure that's basically a re-pack with the only new part being the head.
Reb Hoth Trooper - Didn't open this one as I'm waiting for the skirt. Don't know about the bow-legs though.
Ugnaught - Nice little figure.
U-3PO - Awesome. Perfect protocol droid body.
So what, half the wave is kit-bashed? :P

The Luke reuses some of the VOTC version (torso, left arm, thighs and ball joint hips) but the forearm, head, shins, feet are are new (obviously the robe is new and he's molded in a more esthetically pleasing skin tone)
Emperor - I love it. Feel a bit cheated as the only new part is the head, but it works for me.
The robe is new I believe as it doesn't have the hood and the plastic hood is new.
Leia - another figure that's basically a re-pack with the only new part being the head.
Leia has new ball-joint arms too versus the VOTC's swivel joints
;)

For any of you who have the skirted and non skirted versions of the trooper... is the non-skirt version something you could make yourself by simply cutting the skirt off?
I'm trying to decide if it's worth looking for both versions for a loose collection and don't see any reason to buy it twice for a variation that is easily faked with an razor blade.
-

I think you could slide it out pretty easily as its tucked in under the belt. I haven't opened mine up just yet and haven't done much "customizing" of my loose figs, but looks to me like you could cut it out with a small blade. Here's a pic for reference:
That being said, it sounds like the no skirt version is fairly plentiful at this point with online online retailers getting in the with skirt versions. I wouldn't pay any extra for the skirt-free trooper, but if your goal is to get one with and one without, it shouldn't be hard to track down the initial skirt-free release.
-
Thanks. I think my goal was only to track down one of each if it wasn't something that could be faked so easily. It would make sense to collect as a carded variation but I'll probably just pick up the one with the skirt since I'm done with carded stuff.
-
Rob, if you're talking loose...
Just boil the figure, pop his lower body from upper body, and the skirt will remove as one piece easily. Let the figure cool, and then boil the upper body again and just reinsert the lower body. If you're talking about faking a carded one, that's a good bit more of a challenge.

Thanks Jesse, but what I was trying to say was that if it was that easy to re-create the variation on your own, I didn't feel the need to buy the figure twice to have the variation.
-
Have you ever tried boiled Star Wars figures with spaghetti sauce? Now that's good eating.
-
I tore open my skirtless Hoth Rebel, mainly because I had been dying to get this figure. No regrets. :)
Now if I could just find, oh, a hundred more with the skirt. :-X
-
Rob, I'll take the skirt if you can get it of with minimal damage. Or, we can just swap figures.
-
Just because I haven't seen it mentioned, I swapped the lower legs of Cpt Needa with Jundland Luke. Color is so very slightly lighter on the legs, but I think they look cool. Still love to see the Tank legs on further versions though...and I personally wish the uniform was the the grey color of Jerjerrod and Veers, which seems more sreen acurate, though really hard to tell with Imp uniform.
Also Leia-best headsculpt so far and not pin headed. Absolutely perfect. Got a spare on Mac Starkiller 8)
-

I'm not sure if I'm not being clear or what, but I'm saying that if it's something that's easy to do at home I don't have any reason to bother obtaining one, at all. It's not a variation I need to bother with. So, I won't buy two and there won't be an extra skirt. :)
-
Anthony,
The skirt's probably just a glued piece of white fabric. Most "softgoods" skirts are just that. Some are sewn, but I'm wagering this one isn't. It'd be easy to pop into the fabric store and get a piece of white knit (a yard would skirt up an army) if you wanted. It'd be real easy to fix that if you've got skirtless guys needing fixin'.
I'm probably going to custom a couple as they seem to have different cuts in the movie, actually. It'll add a little variety I think.
-
Scored a no-skirt Hoth rebel today. For once I'm actually going to keep a figure carded.
-
I got a couple of Hoth Rebel Soldiers in a HTS order yesterday, and they were both "skirted" - in case anyone was thinking of ordering some from there.
-

I've been thinking of doing that in order to make longer skirts. I'm fairly sure the coats hung much lower (*snicker*) than these, and should appear thicker in material too.
-
Saw the entire wave of these at my closest Wal-Mart. If Legacy is selling poorly this Wal-Mart did not get the memo. They ordered a bunch of cases and stuffed them full. We'll see how slowly or quickly they go. They ordered about the same for the Clone Wars.
Once again my son went for the Clone Wars and I went for the Legacy :)
-
My Wally just got five cases of... wave 5. Imagine my excitement at the overflowing pegs, and then realizing not a single one was from wave 6. Sigh.
-
Same thing happened up here Spuffy. :'(
-
I'm going out of town to hunt today. I guess I should have just swallowed the $60 pill from HTS.
-

Same deal at my local WalMart, too. I think that's what you can expect when you don't have an "A" level store in your area.
-
While we've got our spottings of Wave 6 (I've got all (unopened) but the Hoth Trooper and I'm waiting for the skirt version), I'm now waiting on the correct U-3PO variant to buy and return the others. I don't know how long that will take to clear through the Wave 5 and first Wave 6 cases before I can get them.

I may be reading this wrong, Vlad, but is there a variant of U-3P0, or are you referring to the skirt/no skirt Hoth Rebel Soldier there?
-
It seems that there are two different metallic "tints" to U-3PO - one that is "silver" and one that has a "champange" like coloring.
There are pictures here: http://threads.rebelscum.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=3737092&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=93&vc=1
But I have both versions of U-3PO and can confirm that there is a visible difference between the two versions.
-
Went out of town today to Cedar Rapids, much bigger than my village in Iowa and discovered the same exact thing - cases upon cases 6 easy of wave 5. Good grief.

I've never found CR to be any better than the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area in my time there.
-
Waterloo (where I am) is actuallyvery good and consistent in terms of finding things, but this recent deluge of wave 5 is unusual and will make it difficult to locate wave 6 unless these sell down super fast before the fall reset - doubt it.
-
Just a heads up the Leia head is swappable with the VOTC Leia, so now we have a perfect ANH Leia.
-

Great. I suppose now we're stuck relying on Target and TRU. I haven't hit the CF WM yet, but I'm pretty sure that it'll be the same thing there. That store is starting to stock things again since the biggest part of their remodel is done with.
-
Target's as bad as WM here... Pegs stocked full of CW figures that aren't selling, Legends that aren't selling, and Legacy that was selling before they picked up that wave (after WM had had it on the pegs for months prior). Not much hope around Pittsburgh.
-
CW sells here, as long as it's Jar Jar or Kit Fisto. I just found Jar Jar on Friday, and Kit was long gone. But I will admit, all Target wants to sell is CW or Legends. It sucks, but it's what works for them.
-
Well, it sells here too... :) Till it doesn't anymore. Now they're at that point where it's not... Kit sells though, but that's probably only because one case of his wave got out because the rest of the CW figures on the pegs were OOOOLLLLLDDDDDD... Like SBD's, Destroyer Droids, Dookus, white Clones...
There's a pretty even mix of the 3 lines on our Target pegs, but unfortunately none of what's there is going anywhere fast it seems. All 3 lines seem to have stagnated everywhere I go, to a pretty good extent actually.
-
My Wally just got five cases of... wave 5. Imagine my excitement at the overflowing pegs, and then realizing not a single one was from wave 6. Sigh.
That's a lot of what we have at our local WM as well. I'll admit I don't hit that store nearly as often to check for SW, but I'm starting to get concerned those pegs might be full for awhile. They have "falling off the pegs" stock on the pegs, but it is almost all Yarna, Breha Organa, Legends Tiin, the Wave 5 Cantina Aliens, and a mix of other CW Animated and Legends figures. I've only seen one Wave 6 figure locally at all, a Needa at Target. I'm glad I ended up order them online, and I went ahead and did the same with the AOTC wave to avoid any possible pegwarming/"end of line" problems.
-
I think some of us were telling Jesse about our immigration policy for Yarna, Breha and some others that warm pegs. Buy up a lot of them and return them to some unfavorable store (say Wloo and CF WM and return them to Indy). That'll free up your pegs and you'll get new cases sooner than you expect.
It's a lot of work on your part, but it gets things moving.
-
I finally got a skirted Hoth Rebel Soldier. Two in fact. Nicer figure than I thought it would be, but that's because of the skirt I think, it just looks better. With them, I got both color variations of the arm. I gotta tell you, I think I'm going to have to put together an off color one.
The U-3PO is awesome BTW.
-
I haven't seen this wave yet (Albany, NY) just wondering if anyone else from the Northeast is experiencing the same thing? I haven't really been hunting everyday, but if it was out here I'd expect to at least see remnants from time to time, but nothing....
-

Yeah, ditto. I found some remnants once - an ugnaught and a luke. I think Leia too. Left 'em there.
This is standard when a wave comes out for me, then a month later I walk into Target and Walmart and can buy like 15 of every figure, even the "hot" one or army builder. This has happened with every single wave in the past 4 years.
So, I wait. Eventually hoarders and scalpers move on to the next hot thing and I clean up when the wave is put out en masse over the next couple months.
Wave 5 just hit with a vengeance here 2 weeks ago.
-
I've seen nothing of this wave, which pisses me off somewhat due to the Rebel Soldier, and to the best of my knowledge nobody in our group has seen anything of this wave or remnants of it around Pittsburgh. The Northeast in general gets pretty screwed on distribution often times, but this time around it seems excessive... Other areas of the country seem to find this wave readily available, even multiples of army builders. This one... I dunno. It's been out a while and there's just not a sign of them here.
We're deluged with Wave 5 and repacks from all the way back to Wave 1.
And of course Yarna who still has "1st day of issue" figures on pegs at many WM stores. ::)

This.
When I'm at school I have a local Wal-Mart that is usually untouched, so the last couple of waves I've found en masse right when everyone else starts to find them. Back home in Austin, all of my stores are just like Dressel described; nothing but remnants for a month or two, then suddenly a gazillion cases of the wave are put out. Like Dressel said, stores have just started putting Wave 5 out and I found it right before Spring Break.
I used to be really anxious and pick up any remnant of a new wave I saw but now I'm patient. If I find a new wave early and there a lot of figs to choose from I'll snag a few but otherwise I usually wait.
-
Things are really different for me. It feels more like the first saga line where stores simply aren't getting waves at all. Like I said, out of ten stores in my immediate area, only one has gotten this wave in. That's unusual.
-

I haven't found this wave in Pittsburgh either Jesse. I bought mine from HTS, though they were out of the Hoth Rebel Soldier of course :(
I only got the face folds Ugnaught and still need the tooth face Ugnaught. I was hoping to buy a squad or so of the Rebel Soldier. He's going to be a hot commodity everywhere it seems. I don't care about skirt/no skirt. However, I do want a mixture of the variant headsculpts.
-
Even if wave 6 isn't falling off the pegs everywhere 2 months from now, the Hoth Rebel will be in wave revisions for the rest of the year.
We're all going to find however many we want. The figure was produced in normal numbers, it'll show up eventually.
-
I agree, but it's frustrating waiting while the rest of the world rejoices. It's not particularly good when, if reviews start up again, I can't find much new when it's actually new, haha.
-
I've only seen one Ugnaught so far, so this isn't isolated. But I'm not going to worry, aside from Darths Malek and Revan, I've found every carded figure on a peg since swimming Jar-Jar.
-
I actually never saw a number of 99 figures... Motti, Swim Jar Jar, Ascension Amidala... I had a few things I never saw, so I have some fears. I've had better luck since 2005+ though, so this wave's a tad frustrating. I really think it's the Reb that's driving me the most nutty here though. I wanted this thing for so long and now I can't get one. Good lord. :)
-
Thankfully MN is pretty good about getting all waves in some abundance sooner rather than later. Other than TAC wave 5 most everything going all the way back to swimming Jar Jar has been relatively easy (I may be forgetting something else that was tough).
But with all that being said, it still sucks to hear about other people finding stuff and you just have to listen and wait. Even if you know it will show up months later, you want it now. I can defineately understand where Jesse James is coming from.
-
I've found every carded figure on a peg since swimming Jar-Jar.
I used to say the same thing (with Swimming Jar Jar as the reference point) until this year I never saw an FX-6 at retail. I guess it's not technically too late yet, but it was still weird.
-
I found this wave this morning, and am kind of unimpressed. The Ughnaught looks terrible and Needa is boring. The new face sculpt on the Emperor is kind of cool, but he seems like a pretty unnecessary figure.
I like the Luke arm, although the head looks like an old man.
I take that back. Now that I've had time to look at it up close and out of the package, it's actually an excellent sculpt. By far the closest resemblance to Mark Hamill we've gotten. I wish this head fit a little bit better on the Sandstorm Luke; that would have been an excellent DS2 Luke.
-
I've heard numerous people say they don't like the Needa. Why? If you just don't like another Imperial officer then fine. But what should they have done to make it less boring? I love getting more officers. Anyway just curious, if you want to answer.
-
They should have given him a jet pack and a second face underneath his hat.
Nah, I guess I'm just burned out on officers. He looks fine, but most places I go still actuallly have Jerjerrod clogging pegs....
-
I'm not a fan of the Death Star Trooper parts, that's the only problem I have with Needa.
-
Needa's legs could be better. But it's a vast improvement on previous Imperial Officers. And I definitely appreciate that they're trying to employ some forward thinking and will reuse this mold for future Imperial Officers.

I think the Needa jet pack seen where Voldemort is under his cap is one of my favorite scenes!!!! They should have made that fig.

Huh? Was the actor who played Needa also in Harry Potter? ???

No, it's right there in the movie. You've got to watch closely for it. An Easter Egg on the Special Edition DVDs.

Wasn't it only in the Wal Mart exclusive version DVDs too?

Does anybody knows how the tlc hoth rebel trooper bends his knees? Is it the same way as potj rebel trooper (tantive)?
Both knees have to rotate 360 degrees to bend?
thanks in advance
-
The Hoth Rebel Trooper has a ball hinged knee joint. Not a swivel joint like the POTJ Rebel Fleet Trooper.
-
Finally found the wave (minus Emperor) this afternoon @ Wal-Mart. I picked up Luke, Leia & Ughnaught. I briefly contemplated buying the Hoth Rebel but passed mainly because I'm kind of an anti-goatee-kinda-guy.
-
I still need the Hoth Rebel Trooper and Emperor. Sadly I just haven't been out looking for these as much. I'm slowing way down on collecting SW. It's just not as fun and exciting as it used to be. Overpricing most definitley doesn't help and is a big factor for my diminished interest.
-
Start now, at WM... I found them tonight. Finally. :)
-
Finally found a couple of cases worth of this wave at a WM store. And with the champagne colored U-3PO parts.
-
It's just not as fun and exciting as it used to be.
It's really not and I feel the same way for some stupid reason. I picked up this wave a month ago and it has been everywhere since then, but I wasn't hunting for it - I just stumbled upon it. Not trying to rub the fact in anyone's face, but maybe it's because I'm in my 30's now and I'm losing interest?
-
Heh, I hit 40 in August. I think there are several factors at play for some of us. Price, availability, storage/display space. Plus we're just plain getting older and the notion of continuing to collect toys "forever" is wearing off it's novelty.
-
I'm still in my early 30s and I have lost no interest. I love going into my half ass wife won't let me have much room display area and look at my stuff and it makes me remember how much I love collecting this stuff every time.
-
Other than price issues, I can't say I've slowed down much, and I'll be 32 this year... Hell I just was tossing a Hoth Han hat onto one of my extra Rebels last night, and I was giddy doing so. :-[
Seriously though, beyond the big issue of pricing right now, I really think Hasbro's making great figures. I can't buy quite as much as I used to, but I'm still getting a full wave when they come out at least, and figure I'll try and army build cheaper down the road (hopefully).
-
I'm pretty much in the same boat as Jesse. I'll be 32 this month, and I can't say that I'm losing interest or slowing down either. I may be buying a bit less overall due to the pricing, as well as personal economic reasons, but I'm still buying each wave of the Legacy line as it comes out. I am considering passing on more and more of the Animated stuff and "other" lines, just due to space and budget, but as far as "realistic" Star Wars, I'm all in. Again, aside from the pricing, I'm not sure if I've ever enjoyed it more. I really think that Hasbro has been doing some of its best work ever on both the figures and new vehicles lately, and it is a good time to be a collector from that standpoint. It is too bad that the fact that prices are jumping so high, and everyone's been in this for quite a haul that maybe things have becoming more stagnant - that it is overshadowing the nice stuff we're getting right now. I still think they could slow down the releases per year a bit (or spread them out), but having just one line would help that too I guess (instead of three). Back to topic though, this really is a nice wave. I picked up a couple more Hoth soldiers via HTS, and I'm looking forward to the variant as well (which I hope is plentiful since it has a more "generic" head sculpt).
-
Scored me some hoth rebel action today, I was noticing in the photos previously that the legs are kinda bowed out and wide-stanced, and this came to fruition in plastic. That and the lack of a rifle knock this figure down 1.5 out of 10 to an 8.5 for me.
I was hoping for greatness, but I got goodness.
Nice figure, but they should have paid a little closer attention to the legs. It's also a little short.
Still gonna army build though, it's good enough.
-
Thankfully we'll get the rifle in the later revision but it would have been nice with this one too.
-
What's up with Hasbro and rifles anyway? The SA Clones never get them, and those Endor Rebels from a few years back didn't have them either.
-
The current Hoth Rebel didn't get the rifle because he's got the trench cannon. The other Hoth rebel gets the rifle and the other accessory.
Want some rebel rifles for this trooper? There are some that were packed in the Saga accessory packs.
-
Man...where the hell is this wave? Klytus, I'm booored...
-
I was looking at the store reports on GH and someone in my area actually found this wave, at a store I was at 24 hrs later, but he says he got the only set they had :( I know I'll find them at some point, I'm just surprised it is this hard to find them.
-
I have seen these all over so they should start trickling in soon. I was just in NJ too and this wave was pretty much everywhere. From my observation in two states, the hardest one to find is Luke which is surprising. Kids must like the bathrobe.
-
Hasbro says we'll be waiting a while for Ugnaught #2 (http://hanshideout.blogspot.com/2009/06/hasbro-star-wars-q-session-12.html).
I wish they would have been a bit more specific about his final destination. By saying "figure #7", I guess that means he's definitely not coming with the 8-figure RotJ wave or the 8-figure ANH wave. He must not be coming until the RotS or the Fall ESB wave since those would be the next 6-figure waves... :-\

I hope it's the kids.
-
Well since they never made that version of him before more collectors might be into him. He's the first one I grabbed when I saw the wave. The only part about the robe I don't like is the strings. I just cut mine ridiculously short and looks much better. Again not great but better!

What about the second Hoth Trooper? Still on schedule for wave 7?
When we asked the question 3 weeks ago, the AotC wave hadn't hit yet. We were assuming HRT #2 was in the Wave 7/AotC cases since a HRT was listed in the case assortments, but folks who have recieved cases of Wave 7 from etailers have been saying the HRT in those cases is "Trench Gun" guy, not the variant.
So, it would seem that HRT #2 has been delayed as well...
-
Figured as much. Bummer.
-
Maybe he will be like the Ugnaught and be in the fall wave. I wish they started with the plain one then got to the Beardo version. He will come, just not as fast as we like. With all the CW 2pks & CW news it's really sad that Legacy is struggling. It's so backwards that the core line is no longer the core line. If the crap was realistic we may not have this problem.
I actually would be buying it if it was realistic. Looking forward to SDCC updates on this figure and others.
-
Wave 6 has been more frequent in Pittsburgh now, including repacks of the grey Coruscant Clone, Imp Engineer, and some others (ANH wave) with the 3PO's droid parts.
Anyway, what I found interesting...
The Hoth Rebel appears to not be painted totally accurately. He has big sideburns and a goatee that almost meet, but what I noticed upon close inspection is that the beard is actually supposed to be fully connected/full, and it's actually sculpted onto the face as a full beard, not goatee/sideburns.
Just something I found odd/interesting about the figure. I like him as is, but they definitely seem to have sculpted him to have a full beard and just didn't bother painting it all in. Not sure why on that at all.
It's sort of similar, but not as dramatic, as the left hand of the original POTF2 Endor Rebel... It's sculpted to cup the forward stock of a rifle, yet the figure had absolutely no way to hold a rifle with two hands... One of those mystery "why" things I guess, that will likely never be answered.
-
...I actually would be buying it if it was realistic...
Man, I hear you on this. Hasbro has lost hundreds of dollars on me because they went the route of animated style. I've bought at most a handful of CW figures and not army built any.
Had these been done realistic style, not only would I have bought one of each, but I'd prolly have gotten back into army building at the hard core level I used to be.
In a strange way though, I'm thankful for this. It means I've had money for other things.

Hoth Rebel Trooper in stock now at HTS.com
Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered some, I am taking a gamble and ordered four in hopes to hit the beardless jackpot. I will keep you posted.
-
I'm guessing Hasbro would picture the beardless guy over the bearded though. They're usually pretty good about that kind of stuff... at least they have been in the past.
I'd love some beardless troopers. A battlepack isn't gonna cut it unless it has some REALLY nice additional crap in it. :-\
-

Normally I would agree with you but the run was so small, samples rare in Hasbros office and the availability so limited in general I am not so sure they would show that photo given that his run is pretty much over. I am expecting the bearded one to ship but my rationale was since that figure has been out of stock and the blue card cases should be near their end this could be the last batch with the beardless one. It's worth a shot as I ordered more stuff beside the 4 HRT.
If I get four beardless one or even one for that matter it will be a hell of a jackpot. Regardless I will snap the box before I open it and then the reveal. I will post them here with 2 weeks as it usually takes them that long to ship.
-
OK, has anyone at all provided proof a beardless being found at retail?
I can tell you without a doubt the run made of beardless troopers was so minimal that the likelihood of finding one at retail, or getting one shipped by HTS is next to nil. The beardless variant is coming to us in the near future as I asked about it this one to someone in Pawtucket (I'm 20 minutes away). I've tried myself to get one of these through a few sources and came up with nothing.
I think the stories of these being found were just that of legend.
-
Hasbro stated in this past week's Q&A session that they have a production sample of the clean shaven Rebel Trooper. But from the retail trends we've been seeing it seems unlikely that the ATTACK OF THE CLONES wave revision cases that this figure was set to ship with will make a dent at retail. I think that will depend on whether or not the blue packaged Legacy figures share the same SKU with the red packaged Legacy figures.
They also confirmed that the clean shaven trooper is slated for a late '10 battle pack release.
-

I agree on the former but not the latter. (Chances are slim but better than retail. If anyone is going to get one it will be through online sources or close out stores. Targets, WM's and TRU's are getting Red cards now, I cannot see them getting anymore blue. Marshalls, Big Lots will get the pulled figures and cases like these.
As others have confirmed Hasbro confirmed production while small was produced. They said they are probably pent up in a warehouse. I am hoping that is what HTS restocked with. Highly unlikely but to me worth the gamble. Getting "stuck" with four beards is not the worst thing in the world, I can return them to Target as I have a piles of receipts. If anyone has a better lead or gamble LMK, for now I rolled the dice with HTS.
If anything it's pathetically fun nerd suspense.

Isn't that most of what this hobby is all about? :D
-
Well, bearded or not, the Hoth Trooper is pretty cool. Just wish we could get some proper rifles...
-
This isn't the first time Hasbro had packaged product that no retail human being has ever seen-- Rebelscum got a sample of the Saga Legends black pauldron Sandtrooper from the 30th Anniversary-style cardbacks, and that thing never hit stores. Hasbro eventually made good and put it in the 2008 Saga Legends packaging, but since it was a simple pauldron swap, anybody could fudge a loose one anyway.
Or in other words, it didn't get made-- if the only samples exist are in Hasbro's hands or the hands of people who may have got them through a special contact, I would say that doesn't count.
If the beardless Hoth Rebel shows up I'd almost bet it's going to be in some other country in a quantity of a couple dozen, tops. I'm not hopeful.
-
I've seen images of only two types of the beardless Rebel, one was a test shot. The other is hand-painted prototypes used for Hasbro's photography or at SDCC. I've not seen anything to imply any other samples exist other than Hasbro saying they have some... Like Adam said though, I don't count that, really.
The positive for the beardless trooper is he's tooled, and so Hasbro may want to use that tooling. The bearded trooper hasn't sat here, and I'd say the ESB wave has shipped somewhat heavily here. Not as much as the previous ANH wave, but it shipped pretty steadily and I saw fresh replenishment of it tonight on a toy run, actually. So I have hope of getting beardless troopers and I think Hasbro may pull a "LEgends" type deal with this figure too at some point (hey, it's a good figure).
What I don't have hope for is seeing it in either current packaging on the shelves.
-
What I don't have hope for is seeing it in either current packaging on the shelves.
I finally gave up carded collecting after these new cards started showing up so it's kind of a bummer and a blessing at the same time, but I did cave and pick up the Legends black pauldron Sandtrooper even though he'll be opened - when I get around to it. Shame.
-
It'll stink being in a Battle Pack. More expensive to army build. :(

WTF is a "pauldron"? ???

This isn't a huge discovery like I found the hope diamond or anything, but it's good for those looking to diversify their portfolios of Hoth Rebels...
So we all know the VTSC Hoth Han Hat is a good replacement cap to make your troopers look a little spiffier and different. I've also found that, if you feel the urge, adding cloth scarving to helmets isn't difficult either, fi you can find a good thin fabric for the scale. Check out your local fabric store for scrabs of dark browns, greys, and such, in light knits.
But, I've been testing some blasters in the holster, to see which fit and which don't. The "standard rebel" pistol that Captain Antilles and others have come with works quite well right off the bat, and many Hothies are seen with it! So keep that in mind when diversifying your troops.
Also, VOTC Han's blaster pistol, which I can't speak for all but I have a ton of these, fit well as well, and are a fairly generic looking gun. The pistol the Trooper comes with already is actually similar (or identical) to Ponda Baba's from the Cantina, and is also commonly seen on Hoth... It helps give the troops a more ragtag look too, with guys having a wide variety of sidearms.
Just food for thought if you found lots of the bearded troops, and want to spice them up a bit.
-
This is how lame I am. I boiled and froze a few figures to correct wide leg stances, including a couple of extra Needas I was planning to customize, and discovered for the first time that the hat is removable.
-
Where's the "hi and welcome to last week" pic? :)
-
Just for fun...
I got some of the Keller figures that are being bundled into the Value 2-packs at WM (our WM's are getting deluged with these 2 packs for $7.50,w hich is great, and I've stocked up on Grievous' because you can't have too many big assed Grievious figures, plus 327th Star Corps are abundant). Keller's "hood" bit fits over the Hoth Rebel's hat pretty perfectly... Add some cloth wrapping (Keller's is a tad shiney for me) over it like a blanket and you've got some bundling up Rebels... A few are seen with extra layers briefly.
It's another way to expand this figure as an army builder IMO, and Keller's (I think it's Keller, I forget Commander Clone names after a while unless they wer ein the movie specifically) become somewhat abundant again for some.
He looks pretty slick too though, with the hood on... I haven't added the cloth yet like a blanket look though. I have toyed with adding some cloth scarving to the helmets though. I need to find a good limp fabric at the fabric store first I think. Some gauzey like Hermi Odle's robes perhaps. That'd be another pretty simple custom to add some diversity, if you didn't mind gluing a strip of cloth to the hat.

Yes, Faie... Sorry. Who the hell's Keller then? He's the similar one from the comic pack?

Keller came in the WM exclusive comic pack with the Galactic Marine. Sounds like a cool custom - got any pictures? Probably moot as I have not seen the 2-packs at any of the WM's around Minneapolis. :P

Is he still going to?

Cool, thanks - I've been paying less attention lately and wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.
-

Yep, at Toy Fair they confirmed again that he'll be in a "collector-targeted" Battle Pack (the kind where all of the figures are new/different somehow). Said they'd have more info on it at one of the Fall shows (SDCC/C5).

The Hoth Rebel will be in an exclusive battle pack that's set to be announced at Celebration 5.
